The decor is kitsch without being vomit-inducing, service rocks - thanks bartender Fareed! - and their dishes are simply delicious, full of herbs, and prepared with love - but not too much, since we didn't have to wait long. Try the pappardelle buttera ($18 for dinner) - with sweet and spicy sausage, English peas, and vodka sauce - you won't regret it. My husband and I stopped in this charming restaurant and ordered the macaroni formaggi and the rigatoni bolognese. Both were delicious! So delicious that we made reservations for the last day we were in the city. We were not disappointed the second time. We were treated like family. Was planning a visit to the NY Historical Society and searching for a place to lunch after. Two in our party avoid gluten so Pappardelle really caught my eye! They were pretty busy on a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend but were able to seat us easily. Their gluten free options were a huge hit - my husband enjoyed his sandwich on a gluten free roll as well as his gluten-free beer (best he's ever had, he said!) and all of us were impressed with the gluten free garlic bread that we ordered on the suggestion of the staff. We also enjoyed the grilled marinated vegetable plate that we ordered to share. My father was the only (slightly) disappointed guest as there was no beer available on tap. I've not had everything I want to try yet, BUT...they have a huge Gluten Free menu which makes me VERY happy. They have gluten free garlic bread. They have gluten free Veal Parmesan. They have gluten free shrimp Parmesan. oh yes. I will be back. And I will eat. A lot. Very nice. Not cheap. Huge portions mostly. If I was NOT gluten free would I race to go there? Probably not. Had the carpaccio 1st , fresh ok like hotpot but would've been better w drier crumbling parm heavier umami taste IMO. My GF got the gluten free Caprino pizza which was tasty I gotta say, it's the sausage and goat cheese. The pesto orecchiette was alot of oil which kinda mask the taste. Branzino crispy skin was excellent flavor with the meat moist and flaky, the jam was ok and broccoli needed flavor like garlic. Very nice waitress, attentive service by staff, and really good pastas - my favorite was the pappardella do manzo (beef short rib ragu, kale, lemon zest) - amazing rich flavor. Also got the bolognese with pappardelle (beef and vegetable ragu, reggiano parmeigiano). It was good but next to the short rib, bolognese just could not compete. The bruschetta was also really good- very nice combination prosciutto with herbed goat cheese and figs. Also tried the veal limone entree which was fine, nothing special.. probably because the short Rib pasta stole the show. Tried a couple of desserts: Torta di cioccolato - warm flourless chocolate cake, hazelnut gelato and caramel sauce Tiramisu Della casa - layers of espresso soaked lady fingers, whipped mascarpone and chocolate Standard and safe and still satisfying choices. This is one of those places that says they have BYOB, quotes a corkage price over the phone, then suddenly ups the corkage once you get to the restaurant. We made a reservation for 6 for November 4 and told the person on the phone we each wanted to bring a bottle and asked the corkage price. He quoted us $30. We said fine and called back the next day to confirm. When we got to the restaurant and sat down we opened our bottles only to be told that the corkage was now $35 and that we could only drink 2 without additional charges. We told the manager that we confirmed 6 bottles over the phone twice. He acknowledged that person existed but said that that person did not have the authority to quote the corkage so the manager refused to honor it, then he left "to see what he could do". 10 minutes later he comes back to "graciously" offer to let us drink all our bottles "without an further penalty" but the corkage remained $35. We said thank you, got up and left. We didn't leave over the $5 per bottle. That was not the point We left because the manager refused to honor what the restaurant quoted to us, of the way the he was clearly trying to squeeze us for that extra $5 once we got there and had opened the wine and he thought we had no other options. Also, this was a bad business decision as the restaurant was not full and 90% of the wine on their list was less than $30 so they would have made more money off the original corkage than they would have by actually selling us wine. And they lost a table of covers. There are 10K restaurants on Manhattan, we don't have to come here to be squeezed by a greedy manager. It didn't take us long to find another restaurant that would let us bring in all of our wines and charged us less per bottle without hassle. read more

This review is for the picnic in the park. What a wonderful experience! I was a little nervous after reading some reviews about it, but we had a great time. We were running late for our 12:15-12:30 spot. Called and they said no problem. Staff were all very friendly when picking up the picnic supplies. I saw many bags prepared, so this must be a popular program. Everything was great - really impressed by the sandwiches, bread, and meat/cheese/olive "platter." Since my very positive may have been influenced with low expectations, I feel the need to address a few things. With some googling, there seems to be a $39 deal for several deal sites - travelzoo, groupon, gilt, living social. I don't know if they are all current, but at least groupon was. For $39, this picnic value is exceptional. Is it "exceptional" for the reg price of $90+...I'm not sure. But we had a great time and would recommend to anyone. We also had a half of each sandwich left, olives, etc. More than enough food for two adults and a 3 year-old. As a side note, if you are offended by the inexpensive tablecloth/picnic blanket, bring your own blanket. And to reference another review, red delicious is not my favorite apple either. My family has been coming to Pappardella for our engagement anniversary every year since 12/26/2005 & included our daughters over the years. I have never received such horrible service like this ever. I was shocked from the lack of courtesy from our waitress from the start...when she came to our table with degrading tone (w/a frown) by asking if want something to drink besides the tap water. Then when she came back with our beers they were half full with the other with fuzz-head. I ask her for a better pour from the bartender & she said no due to that's how they serve it. Yet when I looked around...my table was the only one served like this. I was here with my wife & 2 daughters. The food then came out separately for all four of us at different times with my youngest daughter (a simple flat bread) coming out 10 minutes after the 3rd plate. We were served 20 minutes between all 4 plates...all at different times. There was no apology & restaurant was half empty (1pm today). After hearing here initial tone from the waitress...I felt defeated & just wanted to leave. This is a shame b/c this use to be a special place for us & this will be our last annual trip here. read more

Unfortunately this time the cake was hard and they forgot to add the delicious caramel sauce that really made it tasty the last time. On a positive I also ordered an IPA and it was very reasonably priced. UPDATE! Almost right away after I posted my review I received a call from the restaurant apologizing for their error and offered me a new cake and also gave me a refund for the previous cake. I had two satisfying visits to Pappardella over the past 6 months, before bringing my son and daughter-in-law there at 8:00 PM on a recent weeknight in February. I brought a very generous gift card from a friend who knew I enjoyed the place. On the reservation I noted, "a celebratory dinner for a milestone in my son's life, the night before they would return to LA from a visit here." The whole dinner - service and food - was terribly disappointing. My son went to the bar when he arrived early, and waited awhile until he had to draw attention from a bar tender. After we all arrived at the table, we waited a long time for a server, followed by a relay of 2-3 other servers. My black squid pasta was mushy. One server said, "It's out of my hands," when I noted that something tasted off. I told the manager about my disappointment - no apology, just defensiveness. He seemed annoyed when he had to correct the bill and also, awkward dealing with the gift card - even the receipt did not smooth the way. He finally gave me a credit after we had to wait until he worked it all out. Mind you, no apologies yet! When I called and expressed my disappointment, he seemed cool and annoyed. After a visit to the Natural History Museum with a hungry 4 year old we were looking for a place nearby to eat that offered outdoor seating because some members of our group were immune compromised and wanted to avoid crowds for eating. The restaurant staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We were able to get a table in their outside area-in February-and were the only customers in the entire section. They turned the heaters on and I was even able to eat without my coat on. Two of us had brunch and two opted for pasta. The omelet and eggs Benedict were a hit. Prosciutto added a nice touch to the Benedict. The pasta dishes were fresh and flavorful. And the 4 year old loved his pizza. we were a party of 5 couples meeting for dinner on a Monday night in January. The table was waiting for us and we were seated promptly. The service was spot on perfect. Each couple shared a salad which they plated for us individually. The salads were delicious and so fresh. We each ordered and array of dishes, fish, pizza, gnocchi, and chicken. Everything was scrumptious. The wait staff are hardworking and aim to please. The restaurant is very clean and has a nice ambiance. I highly recommend Pappardella. This restaurant is A M A Z I N G. If you're looking for a spot to grab delicious Italian food, this is it. Details below. Food: The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered a Fettuccine Alfredo (sometimes you just need the basics), and I've had enough Fettuccini Alfredo in my life to know that it has a pretty unidimensional flavor profile. But this was 100% the best I've had. It was rich but not too heavy, flavorful, and perfectly portioned. I also got the chance to try the Pan Fried Burrata, Bruschetta, Funghi pasta, and Funghi pizza. All were absolutely delicious, and the Pan Fried Burrata in particular was a creative and tasty appetizer I hadn't had before. Service: The service was excellent. David was our server, and he was so friendly and accommodated all of our requests - my family can be pretty high maintenance restaurant goers, but we got all the little things that make a meal perfect promptly. Ambience: I sat in their heated outdoor seating, which was beautiful. Casual enough to be great for a meal with family and friends and fancy enough for a date, work dinner, etc. Wait: We made a reservation a couple days in advance and were seated as soon as we got there. Dietary Accommodations: I'm a vegetarian, and it was very easy for me to find several options to choose from. The worst is when restaurants have their token vegetarian dish and assume everyone will like it - that was not the case here. Okay, this place is INCREDIBLE. I came here for lunch with my friend recently. We both got drinks; I got the Monica Belluci cocktail (lemoncello, prosecco, raspberry puree) and let me tell you I would go back for that alone. But then they brought me my gnocchi. First and foremost, their food is delicious. Especially gluten free. But their customer service and professionalism leaves much to be desired. I ordered a large, but not crazy, amount via a delivery service they were active on. And everything said "totally fine, restaurant confirmed your order." When it was 20+ minutes after the later time in the delivery window, I called. They told me it wasn't in the system and then said "let us figure this out" and left me on hold for 30 minutes and never returned. I called from my wife's phone 5 times over that period of time, and none were answered. Then, they did not even answer the phone when the delivery services' corporate support line called them to get a status. Overall, their food is excellent but I am so disrespected, frustrated, and embarrassed about the house of guests I've had to send home with no food (severe food allergies limit the places that will work, especially at 9pm on a Saturday evening) that I am compelled to actually write a review. It's disappointing as my wife and I have spent many, many nights there in person for special events or occasions. And many positive nights delivering food to us for great meals at home. But after this, I'm going to struggle to be able to want to go back. I hope their management sees this review and uses it as a lesson for their staff on how not to handle an issue like mine for future guests, as I wish them much continued success. My wife is 100% Italian so I'd say my critique of Italian food has become more strict over time but this place is fantastic. I had the steak and it was cooked to a perfect medium. Frankly, it was quite slow as it was a Wednesday evening I believe just before closing and it was like we had the wait staff and kitchen all to ourselves. For dessert, the hot chocolate was excellent, and the apple tart with cinnamon ice cream was a perfect way to end the meal. My husband had a coconut panna cotta with mango sorbet, wow! The service was excellent and I also want to give a special shout out to the hostess. I didn't get her name but she was so friendly and nice, all hostesses/hosts should take a cue from her. She went around to all the tables and checked on how the customers were enjoying their meal. So many restaurants nowadays have forgotten how important it is for a manager/host to check on how the customers are doing while also making friendly small talk. Pappardella certainly knows the importance of this, I hope they keep this excellent customer service going. BTW, we had mentioned to the hostess how besides seeing a concert at the Beacon, we were also celebrating our wedding anniversary. I have recently gone gluten-free and it has been hard to go out and figure out what to order. I found this place online as they have a lot of items on their menu that are gluten-free including garlic bread and dessert! I ordered from this place on a snow day in NYC and it was a memorable experience. Although I know many gluten-free dishes are not the same as eating a pizza, the items I tried were not bad. The portions were really large and I tried one of their desserts that I never had before which was a custard with wine and strawberries. It was interesting but it was the perfect custard for a snow day. I would love to try their actual items on the menu but for any pasta and pizza lovers that are looking for a gluten-free menu, it won't hurt to try this place out. read more
