We had an engagement dinner for 6 people on a Friday night. We had Reservations so there was no wait. I had the gluten free pasta which was underwhelming and under cooked, it literally crunched. The rest of my party seemed to enjoy their food but I don't know for sure as it was too loud to talk to anyone other than the person next to me if I leaned over and shouted into her ear. Really defeated the purpose of the in-laws getting to know each other, but there will be other opportunities. If you want to socialize, make sure you opt for the outdoor seating. We stopped off for lunch at this restaurant which has been around for many years, It was very average. I have a Caesar Salad with chicken which was not remarkable. The chicken had no flavor and I was not a fan of the dressing. My wife had the chicken milanese which was good, but she didn't care for anything else on the plate. My older son loves chicken parmesan and is an expert. He thought his dish was slightly above average. My younger son had spaghetti with butter sauce which he enjoyed. The bread they put out for us wasn't fresh. The decor is old and there were chunks of paint falling off the ceiling which needs to be addressed. read more

Neighborhood gem!!! I'm here eating with my 110 lb sheepadoodle outside. Staff is so friendly , food amazing and reasonably priced. (Which is rare these days ). All of the pastas are fresh and homemade. My go to dish is the melanzane parmigiano and the meatballs. read more

I gave this place another shot- I first came to try the gluten free pasta and had ordered chicken parm. I was not impressed- the sauce tasted like tomato sauce from the can. The gluten free pasta was mediocre and I've had better from a box. But I wanted to give it a second shot. This time I ordered the gluten free garlic bread and the bolognese. It was astounding that the mediocre gf pasta was actually the best part this time. First, the garlic bread was essentially a heated Udi's roll with a spoonful of jarred garlic on top. The roll was mushy and the garlic was essentially uncooked. They also served it with 'marinara' sauce, which was again the consistency and taste of a can of tomato sauce. The bolognese was also not a bolognese. I shouldn't have to crunch any onions in a bolognese and the meat was not tender at all. I judge a place by their bolognese and this place failed the test. I ordered in from here because I had a friend in from out of town and thought I would impress her. Well her eggplant parm was quite small but good and she liked the sauce on the spaghetti. Unfortunately I didn't have such good luck. I figured I'd splurge a little and order the Veal Marsala. Usually this is served as very thin veal cutlets that melt in your mouth. But not here. I received thick, chewy cutlets instead. I don't think I've ever actually seen veal cutlets like these. It was served with a naked bland pasta of some sort and spinach. Very boring. And not enough mushrooms to qualify for the dish. As a treat I ordered a cannoli. VERY expensive but fortunately there were 2. UNFORTUNATELY they had No taste at all and ended up in the garbage. I want to say next time I'll order from my usual and favorite Italian restaurant, Coppolas, but I just heard they closed after a thousand years. I am very sad about this. An Italian place in Manhattan, on prime Columbus Ave restaurant row , with so much competition out there, absolutely No excuse for mediocrity. Flavorless Cesar Salad with no cheesy dressing and literally only 2 croutons. The "marinated" calamari appetizer was mostly cherub tomatoes and chick peas or garbanzo beans, barely any calamari and that felt boiled albeit soft. My carbonara was soupy and not at all creamy or thick, and my requested switch to gnocchi rather than the spaghetti on the menu was a poor decision, because the gnocchi was chewy with no interior yum. Plus, skimpy on ingredients again - like one piece of pancetta that was size of a dime! Friend had some sausage pasta dish with vodka sauce and wide flat noodles that looked like chow mein, it was just a big messy glob. Bread brought to table tasted stale. This is a popular neighborhood place, pretty full for an early dinner on a Wednesday in winter. The interior decor is nice, with brick wall. But, really, there are SO many better Italian restaurants out there! read more

The calamari was the BEST appetizer we have ever had, in the US or Italy. It was so tender and flavorful that at almost took your breath away. The gnocchi Pomodoro was also a solid choice- with the potato dumplings having a nice consistency, well done throughout. The marinara sauce could use a bit more flavor, but it wasn't bad. My spouse has the eggs and goat cheese for brunch, along with toast and homemade jam. A really nice place to eat, even if the service was a bit slow. We plan on returning. read more

Wanted to really love this place, as they had a gluten free menu and lots of options. We were , however disappointed. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming inside and they have 2 very nice outside seating areas as well. The service was friendly and quite good. Unfortunately the food was average at best. We had gluten free and regular food off the menu. Gluten free garlic bread was good, for gluten free. The gluten free Caccio e Pepe pasta dish was below par, key ingredient was pepper and it was hardly in it. ( also I would have used a different pasta shape, not spirals). Pasta verdura, was essentially pasta primavera and really lacked any sauce. . The ravioli di formaggio, was just ok. ALL dishes lacked real flavor. We asked for some salt and fresh pepper for the caccio e peppe, and was handed some pepper, would have enjoyed a real pepper mill. The outside area we sat in was very lovely and heating was perfect. As stated earlier, service was very good, if only the food matched it, we would return. Unfortunately we will not. It is however a very busy restaurant. Food's okay, pricing is embarrassing. Barolo that's priced severely above market-rate for the bottle & 25$ for papardelle funghi that's drenched in B+ to C- "truffle" cream sauce. The sauce is just a loose oily béchamel, the mushrooms were cooked extremely inconsistently and couldn't tell you there was truffle or basil in there since the sauce itself was blasted with garlic. The restaurant itself feels extremely dated, not just because of the pretentious uniforms but also the fact you can visibly see the paint chipping off the walls and ceiling (oof). Wait-staff is checked out, took forever to take my order and they clearly convinced someone higher up to put paper place mats down to make their lives easier; you can't act like you're some fine-dining Italian restaurant when you have paper placemats papardelle lol. TLDR: staff couldn't care, food is fresh but boring and poorly executed, and the place is visibly losing chunks of paint on its ceiling. Quality doesn't match the pricing. read more

Everything about this place was great! The food, the service, the drinks, even the prices were all amazing. Came here for an early dinner/late lunch with my three friends while visiting the city and even though we had to dine outside, the restaurant was more than accommodating with heaters outside and warm food to keep us toasty. We started with cocktails, my friends got bellinis and I got the Monica Belluci cocktail (lemoncello, Prosecco & raspberry puree). They were delicious! We also got pitchers of their sangria to share - we must've had like 3 of them, soooo good! They also gave us complimentary bread with olive oil, like any good Italian restaurant would. I got the penne alla vodka with fresh mozzarella, SO GOOD! I've been craving it since. That is one of my all time favorite dishes so I love finding restaurants that cook it well. Two of friends also got the penne alla vodka, and my other friend got the pappardelle funghi e tartufo (pappardelle with mushroom ragu, white wine, truffle cream & roasted garlic/basil), she said it tasted amazing! We finished off with the torta di cioccolato (warm flourless chocolate cake, hazelnut gelato & caramel sauce) which was absolutely delicious and fresh! Our experience here could not have been better! As someone from Long Island who has access to indoor dining, I was very sad to see the current state of restaurants in NYC. We all need to do what we can to keep restaurants like Pappardella open! Stopped by with 2 friends for a quick lunch after visiting a nearby museum. The restaurant has a rustic brick interior and a nice cozy feel. The place wasn't crowded so we figured service would be fairly prompt. Wrong! We only ordered sandwiches but they took over 30 minutes to arrive at the table. One of my friends finally reminded our server that we were waiting, then our food appeared quickly. Were we forgotten or dissed? Hard to tell as other tables were served more quickly. On the plus side my caprese sandwich was delicious, a thick slab of fresh mozzarella cheese with fresh tomatoes and pesto on toasted bread served with a small side salad. This restaurant came up on a variety of lists with gluten free suggestions. It was a bit of a hike from our hotel but turned out to be worth the walk. We started with GF garlic bread. It was cheese-less (I assumed the opposite) but the flavor was fantastic and they even managed to get a slight crisp on the bread. I do think I'd request cheese in the future though. For dinner I had the GF chicken parmesan. It was outstanding. The breading was crunchy for the duration of the meal, the sauce was delicious and even the side of spiral noodles was pretty good. I don't have a lot of desserts but the had a flourless chocolate cake with hazelnut gellato and a streak of caramel. I but and ordered one. The cake was delicious - moist and rich. I ended up removing the gellatto (too much) and could only make it through half (so sweet when you aren't used to dessert). But, it was fantastic and my husband polished it off. I could have eaten a tub of the caramel sauce! Great place. We'll definitely come back when we're in the city. read more

Since we live in Upper West side, this has consistently been our go to restaurant. The calamari appetizer is delicious and low in Carbs we generally share the lamb chops that come with 2 large portion and risotto! All is excellent and very fairly priced. I visited on a Monday night after watching a show at the planetarium, which is a five-minute walk away. The restaurant was about half full, and we were able to get a table by the window. The tables were close to each other, so I had to keep leaning forward to be able to hear my friend. I ordered a meatball spaghetti and a prosciutto pizza. Both dishes are decent; nothing exceeded the expectation. We ordered some cannoli for dessert, which was great. The service was good. For some reason, servers kept adding water every five minutes, which I later learned was common in restaurants in the U.S.A., but I found it stressful. The restaurant seems to have an extensive wine collection, but I didn't feel like drinking on a Monday night. In general, it was average. This is an excellent place to go if you are hungry around the area, but it doesn't worth a second visit. read more

I've come here twice but was deeply disappointed the second time. The first time we came was for date night with my now fiancé. We sat outside and the service, food, ambiance was great! We enjoyed ourselves and definitely planned on returning. However, the second time was a bit of a mess. We decided to meet a couple of friends for dinner here. We were seated inside where the air conditioner fluid was leaking onto my shirt, which was disappointing but not the end of the world as I just moved seats. What was really frustrating was that the service was not very attentive. It took us over a half hour after being seated to be served any water and then it was another fifteen minutes before our order was actually taken. I ordered the pasta with peas, sausage, and a cream sauce and it was cold by the time it was served. Other people in party were also surprised at how cool the food was. This was super disappointing because the food the last time was incredible and served hot. My meal was not as flavorful and more oily than I would have expected for the dish and from having ordered it previously. The ambiance was fine, rustic Italian, but the tables are very close together. They do ask for vaccination proof at the door, but it's unnerving to be that closely situated to other tables, especially given how spacious the restaurant interior is. I don't think I will be back here because of the service and quality of the food. But am hopeful this was a fluke and your experience could be better! read more

Quite solid Italian fare! Came in for dinner on sunday night with my family. We were excited for a cozy and hearty Italian meal, and that's what we got! The bread they serve with olive oil and balsamic is really good. We also ordered some garlic bread as well as bruschetta. The bruschetta was very fresh- good tomatoes and ricotta on top of the toasted bread. The garlic bread was so-so, we wished they had a cheesy garlic bread. While it was crispy, it was a little bland. We also had a Margherita pizza as an app- that was so so good. Crispy and delicious. For entrees, I ordered the chicken Parmesan. It was so crispy, cheesy, and cooked to perfection. It came with spaghetti on the side, which could've bit a little more saucy, but still hot the spot. The parm was one of the best I've had in the city! We had some wine for the table as well which was good. Lost one star due to ok garlic bread and not so great service... very slow, had to ask for chili flakes 3-4 times just to get some! My daughter-in-law, granddaughter and I were looking for someplace to eat on the first night in November. It was incredibly mild night and we wandered down the avenue looking for a place for dinner. We came across Pappardella with its outside tables and decided that this was the place. Was planning a visit to the NY Historical Society and searching for a place to lunch after. Two in our party avoid gluten so Pappardelle really caught my eye! They were pretty busy on a Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend but were able to seat us easily. Their gluten free options were a huge hit - my husband enjoyed his sandwich on a gluten free roll as well as his gluten-free beer (best he's ever had, he said!) and all of us were impressed with the gluten free garlic bread that we ordered on the suggestion of the staff. We also enjoyed the grilled marinated vegetable plate that we ordered to share. My father was the only (slightly) disappointed guest as there was no beer available on tap. This is one of those places that says they have BYOB, quotes a corkage price over the phone, then suddenly ups the corkage once you get to the restaurant. We made a reservation for 6 for November 4 and told the person on the phone we each wanted to bring a bottle and asked the corkage price. He quoted us $30. We said fine and called back the next day to confirm. When we got to the restaurant and sat down we opened our bottles only to be told that the corkage was now $35 and that we could only drink 2 without additional charges. We told the manager that we confirmed 6 bottles over the phone twice. He acknowledged that person existed but said that that person did not have the authority to quote the corkage so the manager refused to honor it, then he left "to see what he could do". 10 minutes later he comes back to "graciously" offer to let us drink all our bottles "without an further penalty" but the corkage remained $35. We said thank you, got up and left. We didn't leave over the $5 per bottle. That was not the point We left because the manager refused to honor what the restaurant quoted to us, of the way the he was clearly trying to squeeze us for that extra $5 once we got there and had opened the wine and he thought we had no other options. Also, this was a bad business decision as the restaurant was not full and 90% of the wine on their list was less than $30 so they would have made more money off the original corkage than they would have by actually selling us wine. And they lost a table of covers. There are 10K restaurants on Manhattan, we don't have to come here to be squeezed by a greedy manager. It didn't take us long to find another restaurant that would let us bring in all of our wines and charged us less per bottle without hassle. read more

The decor is kitsch without being vomit-inducing, service rocks - thanks bartender Fareed! - and their dishes are simply delicious, full of herbs, and prepared with love - but not too much, since we didn't have to wait long. Try the pappardelle buttera ($18 for dinner) - with sweet and spicy sausage, English peas, and vodka sauce - you won't regret it. The bruschetta was also really good- very nice combination prosciutto with herbed goat cheese and figs.
