I went today to check them out for the first time. Its a little distance from my office but it was worth the drive. There is parking in the back also but beware only one way in and out so look before you exit. There are two doors to enter one in front and one from the rear parking lot. You will need to walk around to the front of the restaurant to see the hostess to be seated. My waitress was Ann and after taking my order the food came out pretty quickly. It was hot and very tasty. I rated the food 4 out of 5 because on the twice baked potato the cheese wasn't fully melted. They probably should have heated it a little longer but that won't discourage me from going back. Recommended from front desk at hotel. Full house at 11:30am. server was quick to table and recommended the chicken fried steak so I ordered that. Came with a salad. When it arrived it was just crisp iceberg lettuce salad mix with carrots and cabbage a 1 lone cherry tomato. Nothing else? The side of blue cheese dressing was in house made tasting. Entrée arrives and the fried chopped meat was big and covered with peppered white gravy and mashed potatoes had it as well. The items were flavorful however were just warm. I was confused since the salad was served on a cold plate( pre prepped in fridge)? and also the entrée was on a cold plate? hot plates hot food...... Just a few tweeks and could be 5 stars. Had the saddest blandest catfish and fries during a weekday visit. It was simply food. No enjoyment. No seasoning at all. For what you pay it was meh. For the price it was fries and fish. Then had the nerve to have specials if you come in to dine. No young clientele just ppl who don't like seasoned food. How do you make ketchup optional for fish and fries? Really wishes I knew of this place sooner. Yummy food, giant portions, and reasonable price. We had nice service, and the food was quickly delivered. I had ribs and chicken, which was great. I was glad the chicken wasn't dried out. Cheesy grits were ok. Broccoli rice casserole was sooooo cheesy. The many varieties on the menu are intriguing me to come back. Tipping culture is insane here. Took 10 minutes to be greeted by the waitress. When I asked for my first refill her response was "is that going to be for to go?" I was there for not even 15 minutes and still eating. Then when she brought out the glass her only comment was "anything else?" After the food was done, which was a total of 20 minutes at that point, She brought out the check and didn't see her again for 10 minutes. She had the nerve to decorate my receipt and highlight the entire suggested tipping section and put a smiley faces. What exactly did you do? You could have at least had manners and been polite. And this happens every time! There is maybe one or two servers with hospitality there. It ruins the whole experience. As for the restaurant the food is decent. Used to be very affordable but pricing has become a little gouged. Still good, not sure if it's worth their new pricing though. read more

Today 05/06/ 2021 senior group of thirty arrived at Pappy's ; Katy freeway, Houston. Management contacted week earlier. Email reply yes on accommodation. Female greeter was very unprofessional, unpleasant, refusing seating even after told we did not expect to be seated together. I and four other remaining inside and sat on bench near bar. The bartending woman Lauren was 360 degrees different, she had us sit at bar, took food orders. Lauren and all other service staff were wonderful, the food delicious ,the service from the others , except the woman at the door excellent. (There were five reg tables & a booth obviously available at entrance. Our coordinator had the others come out of the heat and find their own seats, as well our two bus drivers with Harris County. Many tables in the back of Pappy's was cleared and available !!! read more

The service is BAD and there were BUGS crawling all over us and the table. When we let the waiter know, they didn't make any effort to apologize and seemed totally unconcerned. Messed up several meals and still provided nothing close to an apology on their part. Definitely won't be back to this location. read more

One of my top favorite comfort food restaurants in Houston, especially because they have the Beyond Burger! With me being a vegetarian, it can sometimes be difficult finding places to eat with people that are not vegetarian, especially when it comes to American cuisine. At Pappy's Cafe, my boyfriend can get chicken fried steak - which he says is really good - while I eat a vegetarian meal that isn't just salad, which is what most other restaurants have. Additionally, their service is great and the food is delicious. My only complaint is that there aren't more locations because I'd eat here every day if I could. Definitely recommend for vegetarians and carnivores alike! read more

The food here is similar to diner like food. I had the country fried steak and it was very heavy on the batter and the gravy also very very heavy. I typically don't prefer it like that but you may. Their strawberry jalapeno margarita is very good though and I could come back just for that. Reasonably priced alcohol here. They get a little busy during the rush dinner hours and once you get your food it's a bit harder to get their attention afterwards. Friendly staff. read more

My family and I were very excited to visit Pappy's Nd we drove from the Willowbrook area. But as the night went on that enthusiasm soon dwindled. We were seated (table of 5)....given menus, ordered .....but were given no water, napkins or utensils. We waited, then our utensils arrived but nothing else, no salt & pepper on the table, condiments or dressing to go with orders. Main courses served BEFORE appetizers and when we DID get the nachos the melted cheese was WELL HIDDEN. You could tell it had NOT been freshly made and had sat in the kitchen for a while. We quietly ate and tipped the waitress and left, sadly it was not worth the drive. But at least we got a table near a wide screen TV that helped ....we watched a football game read more

Friendly American Cafe similar to Cracker Barrel. They have a decent variety of food including burgers chicken baskets salads pork chops all kinds of stuff. The entrance is kind of cramped though, people tend to congregate by the front door and you can't get in or out. when I got here they just stared at me like what do I want. They sat me at a booth which the seating was very uncomfortable. If you leaned back you sort of fell into the seat so I had to sit on the edge which was uncomfortable. Could have moved but the place was pretty packed. I would definitely go back and try more of this neat little restaurant. read more

Good variety of foods in a Texas themed, casual, upbeat setting. Love the chicken fried steak, jalapeño poppers, and enchiladas. Nice bar area and tv's if you want to watch a game at the bar. Meh. Went here on Saturday with my husband and 4 teens. Food was ok, nothing special. Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip and fried pickles for appetizers. The artichoke dip was lacking in flavor and the fried pickles were good but when you got to the bottom portion of the basket is was just completely saturated in oil, gross! My husband and I both got the chicken fried steak. The portion size is huge and we should have just shared one. The batter was very crispy and would have been a 100 if it had ANY seasoning AT ALL! My son got the fried catfish and it was nothing special. Other entrees ordered were chicken tenders basket, chicken sandwich and a cheeseburger. All were mediocre at best. We ate here a couple of weeks ago. The service was great and the food was excellent. Our server offered to bring us tastes of the chicken tortilla soup and cheese jalapeño soup. Both were outstanding! Hands down the BEST cheese grits I've ever had in a restaurant. The shrimp were well seasoned but just a tad over cooked. The fried okra was delicious! My husband's steak was well seasoned and fork tender. I did not expect that!!! The twice baked potato was yummy. Cannot wait to go back and try more. Very reasonably priced. Recently, I tried to eat at Mason Jar, after spending 15 minutes sitting at a table, no one came to take our orders. So got up and left. Lucky for us Pappy's was just next door. This place services southern comfort food. Chicken fried steak, fries, burgers, etc. But they have a few options that you wouldn't necessary associate it. The stand out of my meal was the Scorpion tails, jalapenos stuffed with cheese and shrimp. MUST GET! I also got Bubba's chicken and this dish was quite delicious. The best part about this place is the service though. You get that down south hospitality you're expecting. read more

I am not sure how many times I have passed this place and just been a bit curious, but never stopped to eat. On this particular Sunday at lunch time I was looking for something in the general area for lunch/brunch, but not a typical chain and not a place where the best thing on the menu is a hamburger. I was seated quickly and was initially a bit nervous about the rest of the meal since the table had sugar on it and other remnants from the previous diners. I ordered a mimosa and I have to say it was pretty good - not weak at all like at most places. I'm a light weight so even the 2 I had was really pushing it. I ordered the salmon medium with a side salad and their smashed potatoes. The potatoes were pretty good, but the description of them made me think they would be like a potato pancake. The salmon was a bit more done than I had wanted, but it still had a good flavor. The salad was good, but the blue cheese dressing they make themselves? It really just tasted like onions and miracle whip. Both of those ingredients overpowered any blue cheese so I wouldn't suggest this dressing if you love blue cheese as much as I do. The service was good though. The greeter told me she was sitting me with their best server since it was my first time there and I can believe it. He was very attentive and didn't mind describing the dishes. He seems to enjoy helping his customer so definite positive there. read more

A few weeks ago met a group of people here on a Tuesday evening. We got to use a private room. Our server was DANIEL who was the greatest. We never had to ask for a thing. He kept up with 10 people and their needs like more drink, napkins or whatever. He had the best personality which set the mood for the evening. Their special that day was Chicken Fried Chicken like Chicken Fried Steak. It was a large enough portion that my husband and I shared it. Price was $14.99 and got choice of two sides. Chicken was very tender and good. The mashed potatoes were perfect. However was disappointed in the fried okra. Not cooked right at all. Wished they would have had some bread of some kind to go with it. Overall very good. Others liked their meals and had leftovers to take home. It wasn't a loud and noisy restaurant. Appreciated that. Pappy's is a place of nostalgia for me. Seeing that I used to waitress there years ago, I'm always drawn back to their friendly, family atmosphere. Plus they make great Long Island teas! They have a very diverse menu : chicken fried steaks/chicken, enchiladas, tacos, Hawaiian chicken, big salads, and some of the best honey mustard dressing I've ever had! Overall, I like this place well enough to have been there dozens of times over the past few years. Most of the waitstaff are very friendly and accommodating except for this one guy who gave me crap about the low carb substitutions I requested with my meal. I'll happily pay more for salad instead of fries, and then I'll tip more if you can deal with that without whinging at me because you had to write extra words as you took my order. That aside, I've always appreciated the staff here, we have never had to wait too long for our food, the order comes out right, most of it tastes good, and the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant. I like to order the cheeseburger with no bun and salad instead of fries. The meat is good (I think it's extra important to have quality meat when you're not eating the bun) and the salad is fresh. Definitely one of the better bunless burgers around here. I don't think they do as good a job on the grilled chicken, as it can be a little rubbery from time to time. Been wanting to try this place. Went there once but decided against it. Decided to go ahead and take a chance because what was recommended(sigh, by my husband, again, wasn't good). Everything I tried was good except the catfish nuggets(just ok). The salsa, the queso con carne were good but the ceasar salad was the best. Would have given 5 stars but they did not have the fried green tomatoes(don't sell it anymore) or the gumbo(I think it's only on a certain day). I recommended myself and it was worth it.
