I like this place and just went here today to their new location for the first time. I've been going to their old location for a while. Today I ordered chicken fried chicken (daily special) and baby back ribs + sausage and a single scorpion tail. The server brought out 5 tails and when I told him we just ordered 1, he apologized and said we can keep them all and went to talk to our waitress to fix the bill. Got me all excited for free tails! Waitress later came by and took them all away except for one. So I guess she would rather throw them away than give it to us. Anyway the rest of the food tasted fine... but you can't mess up the order, give something away and then take it back like that. It's too much of an emotional rollercoaster for a scorpion-tail-loving customer to handle! read more

Order to go from here for the first time. The staff is nice but I must say that the food I ordered was just "ok". This seems like a hometown steakhouse, so I probably should have stuck with ordering something more "southern" like chicken fried steak or the fried chicken. An awesome family restaurant with a homely casual atmosphere that's been around a long time but still delivers. The greeters and wait staff are friendly, attentive and make a real effort to ensure you and your family have a great time. They have an extensive menu and lots of tasty options for small kids. They also have a full bar with several beers on tap including some local options. All the food we tried was excellent. The grilled shrimp was well seasoned and delicious. Their sides including green beans and the rice broccoli were just right. The kids chicken tenders and fries were very tasty, good fries and very tender chicken. They also had an excellent selection of deserts. I very highly recommend Pappy's cafe. read more

I thought this place was gonna be like Luby's, judging from the crowd it pulled in, but the food is way better. I came here for a Sunday lunch. There was a 15 minute wait, evidently they serve brunch on Sundays. It sounds pretty decent, too. They have your typical comfort/diner food menu. I opted for the steak fingers and fries and liked them. My bf had a grilled chicken sandwich that was pretty good. Nice mesquite flavor to the chicken. I like it better than 59 Diner, and they have a lot of variety on a fairly large menu at reasonable prices. read more

My family has been eating here for years. Terry is always the friendliest and best server. It's a little bit of a drive from Richmond, TX but worth it every time. If you like jalapeños stuffed with cheese and shrimp, the Scorpion Tails are a must. Food portions are always large and the food is always hot and fresh. My favorite items are the Bourbon Baby Back Ribs, Chicken Fried Steak, and the catfish. I've never had a bad item eating here. Some items are better than others, but everything is good. read more

Our son talked us into visiting Pappy's, he said the burgers were the bomb, he was right. We paid a little extra for the kobe beef upgrade on our burgers, we enjoyed hand cut fries and sweet potato fries, the service was excellent and made us feel at home. Love this place! Went for the first time last year for my Bday and have gone back several times. Always great food and excellent service! My favorites are the Spinach dip to start, followed by a chicken fried steak or bacon cheeseburger. This place is great! The couple of times that I've been, the food has been awesome. I've passed by this place too many times and never bothered to stop. Parking can be a mess if you get there at lunch time, so try and beat that. Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for some homestyle cooked food. Don't let the outside worry you one bit. And if you're the kind of person that cares more about what news station is on TV, then maybe you should just stay home, because this is worth more than watching TV, it's great food. read more

My dad used to take us when I was in high school but I haven't been I years. I would always get the cheeseburger bc the buns here are so good and made in house. This time around I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a Caesar salad. I don't know if the dressing is house made but it's delicious and could've eaten a lot more of it. The mashed potatoes here are my absolute favorite and they're so creamy and buttery and have a hint of garlic and bacon flavor (I don't know if that's real or in my head, but I taste it). We always get the onion rings as an appetizer. They're super thin and battered to perfection and come with ranch. They taste good by themselves too with that slight sweetness. The chicken fried steak is huge and the gravy is white country goodness. It also comes with Texas toast. The whole meal is a heart attack on a plate but it's good ole southern cooking. I also got a Karbach staycation beer and it was creamy and had a slight citrus taste which is my favorite kind of beer. Our server Katy was great and very attentive. And it was my bday so I got a free brownie dessert. read more

I have several favorite waiters but I can't list them all...appetizers you can't go wrong with the Scorpion Tails with horseradish and ranch dip, burgers are huge, my favorite sandwich is the GrilledTurkey Artichoke, baskets fried shrimp, catfish or tenders and they all could be grilled/blackened...the tenders in buffalo sauce and their homemade blue cheese dressing (all their dressings are homemade)...yum!!! We are so glad Pappy's is still around! We were sad when they left their location in Memorial Area but relieved to know they moved to their Dairy Ashford location. The food is still the same and delish. You can tell by their menu they serve mostly American classics with some Cajun items and Tex-Mex options. Good 'ol favorites like fried mushrooms, fried jalapenos and scorpion tails (stuffed jalapenos). They also have a delicious chicken sandwich, chicken fried steak and Hawaiian chicken. For dessert they have fruit cobblers and pies. Their portions are generous and food is served hot and freshly made. The service is typically friendly and good. Ask for Bonnie in the Main Dining room, she is so nice and attentive! read more

My second visit to Pappy's was just as good as the first. This place is great for lunch if you work in the Energy Corridor. The service is fast and the staff is attentive. I realized today that there's a veggie plate option which is great for the non meat eaters. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. The manager or whatever she was "greeted" us at the host stand and was immediately looking at us with judgement bc me and my family were Mexican. Once she sat us down at our booth she said to make our kids lower down their phones bc it was too loud even though it was a packed restaurant with an already loud crowd. Not sure why she would say that and never has any restaurant made such a ridiculous demand as if we were in a library. She then proceeded to tell us again once we looked at her with confusion after the first time she told us to. She seemed really racist and she was rude talking to us like we didn't know any english. Family came in for visit before Christmas because we couldn't be together on Christmas so we Called ahead for 10 people and were told we are not busy just come on!!! Drove 30 minutes and Got there and they brought us to two tables next to each other and said that was the best we can do. I share my disappointment with our waitress and she went to the manager who didn't even have the curiosity to come to our tables and offer to correct the issue! We stayed and tried to make the best of the situation. I was also very disappointed in the food and service and will not go back. The Bourbon baby back ribs were so tuff i had to use a knife to cut them, the mashed potatoes were cold and that was just my meal, no-one asked for a togo box and they left most of there meal on their plates. The menu offers a variety of foods for everyone's taste, and the portions are more than enough to satisfy the hungriest members of our group. On our most recent visit, we had the joy of being served by Leah. She was more than attentive and provided everything we needed, even before we asked. Great restaurant for comfort food. I had shrimp and catfish fried, and the shrimp was very good, catfish not so good. But I've had good catfish there before that was great. My complaint was the mixed drinks. We were out with friends so I didn't send it back, and I found out later my wife felt the same way. I had a bourbon and coke that had little bourbon in it and the coke seemed flat. My wife had a 'John Daly' that she said she would have sent back if not with friends. We will go back for dining again but no more mixed drinks. read more

We are regulars here! I must admit - the family loves this place and I even worked here during the college years. It is a great place to come with friends, family or sit at the bar. All the food is wonderful at very reasonable prices including drinks. The tortilla soup is delicious along with the scorpion tails and special nachos. They have awesome chicken tenders and chicken friend steak. I also love their burgers and chicken sandwich. Also, the staff is friendly and it is obvious this place has its regulars. This place was awesome! The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The random people at the bar talk to you so you dont feel alone. I decided to stop in by myself after school for dinner. I had been meaning to come here especially after reviewing the menu and reading the yelp reviews. The food is extremely affordable and you get alot of food for the price. I ordered the pork chop, mac n cheese, and fries. I wont suggest the mac and cheese if your looking for home made. It was bland but I definitely enjoyed my salad. I was a little disappointed because my pork chop tasted good but it was very thin. It wasnt worth $15.00 especially seeing every elses pork chops were thick and juicy. Since it was a friday the drink specials were Long Beach and Long Island for $5.50. Definitely worth the price. Next time I come i plan to try the veggie burger that looked delish. The only downfall is they close early and depending on the night the parking lot might be full and you will need to walk a lil ways and park on the street. Owned by the 59 Diner family, but so much better. I've been coming here at least a dozen years. I'll keep coming as long as I can. Unfortunately I don't live in Spring Branch anymore so it's not a regular stop. The food I consistently good. They make their own salad dressings. The CFS is great, one of the top 10 for the city. I'm not crazy about the gravy though, theres an odd flavor (but my wife loves it). They also have Kobe beef burgers. Big fan of the grilled chicken Caesar salad. It was my guilty pleasure for a long time when dieting. Can be crowded with a bit of a wait, but worth it. It's one of the places I'll take an out o town guest for a Texas experience (ie small town type Texas restaurant) read more

I've lived in the Energy Corridor for over 7 years and finally tried this place last week (and again this past weekend). It's nothing fancy, but the menu is pretty expansive and the food has been delicious and is priced fairly. So far, I have tried the grilled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries & the grilled chicken taco salad- both YUM. My husband has had the burger and fries & chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes- also YUM (and I don't typically eat battered foods). They also have a full bar with daily drink specials and fair priced drinks in general (seems like everywhere I go charges $12-$15/cocktail these days). I think they are known for a $4 frozen house margarita. This will definitely become one of our go to places and would definitely recommend! read more
