Consistently good. I typically hit up Pappy's for lunch once every month or two. Each time, I've enjoyed consistently good, home cooked food. Service - Good. Pleasant, knowledgeable servers...Some have even shared their personal preferences which were tasty. I like how they review the daily specials early in the wait service. Food - This place simply has that "homemade" taste that most people enjoy. Whether you order one of their gigantic burgers or entrees, portions are filling. And, they don't skimp on the ingredients either. Value - Moderate. Atmosphere - "Rustic Texan". It can be a bit chilly so if you are cold-natured, bring a light jacket or sweater. Came here twice for lunch during the week. Left with a smile and a full belly each time. Pappy's cafe is a local favorite and just moved in to their digs near I-10 and Dairy Ashford in the Energy Corridor. Bigger than the old location featuring Texas Decor and Sports Bar area. Trying to be healthy I ordered the Calfornia Chicken Sandwich. It was great. Its a big Chicken Sandwich with a side of fries. My diet was out the door at that point. I attempted to be healthy again a month later with the Blacken'd Chicken Club. Great too but add some Tabasco to crank it up a few notches. Definitely would come again. Tip: Not a great place to be strict on a diet. read more

We went to this place while visiting Houston and I can say the food wasn't half bad . The server was not bad and understanding because we weren't sure what we wanted and she had to come back twice ( they have quite a selection) . The place itself was really nice and I liked the decor. It was only a 10 minute wait and I had the shrimp and grits . It was pretty good but I think seasoning the shrimp would have capped it off . My husband enjoyed the ribs and he said he really liked them ! read more

I wanted to try something new tonight for lunch and read some of the reviews good and bad so I decided to stop by. I called first the young lady was friendly and helpful. When I arrived I was greeted upon entering and directed where to go for pickup my order wasn't ready. I waited about 5 min. My order was sit on a table instead of bringing it to me. Then when I got in my car I realized I didn't get my tea so I went back in and as I stood there for about 3min or so there was this white guy talking to some customers never acknowledged me until I asked him was he the manager and he said yes......I'm like I didn't get my tea so he went to the back and a young lady came out with the drink. I guess my gut told me to not tip for some reason I just didn't get a good vibe from the staff. The food was good very small portion for $18.......I am going to give a low rating because they didn't give me my tea and the manager just plum ignored me. The fish had a good taste the rice was good also the mashed potatoes and green beans had a good taste. Maybe I will go back again maybe for dine in to see how the staff services are rendered. It doesn't matter to me if it was busy it's called customer service and for me to be ignored by the manager is unacceptable. Needless to say I went back again about a hour ago same situation. Ms.Lauren asked me if I wanted a tea which I was assuming it was a courtesy because of the bad customer service I received last night and come to find out it wasn't. So I said you can take it off instead of her saying you can have the tea they took it back. I'm like wow. I will never step in that business again. Thanks. Walking in, you feel like you are transported back in time to a an old western saloon with no cowboys or horses! The bar was filled with all kinds of liqueurs to choose from and well as the TVs for watching pleasure! The place is decorated with all western decor!! It is a fun place!! Lol!! The menu is simple, good food! The variety of everything is offered. The wait staff is nice and friendly greeting us as on as we walked in. Everyone had a smile on their faces and are very accommodating. We decided to order the steak finger basket with waffle fries and the catfish basket with coleslaw! Both were amazing. First of all, the portion is humongous!! And it came out hot! It was not sitting king before it got to our table!! You can tell it was homemade!! The waffle fries were hot and crispy and the coleslaw was cold and tasty! We definitely have leftovers!! The steak fingers were seasoned nicely with a nice crunch. I found this restaurant from yelp and see most ppl with good reviews.. So I decide to give a try. It is not a very big restaurant but pretty special to me. I had the Tuesday special drink and an appetizer Texas nachos with beef. The drink was a lit water down but the nachos was not bad.. The beef was really tender. Pappy's is such a relaxed environment and the service was so friendly during my boyfriend & I's (was that incorrect grammar??) recent Saturday lunch there. I started off with a mimosa (duh) and ordered the beef philly cheese steak. While it wasn't the typical Philly like you would get at philly shop, it took on its own flavors. They didn't skimp on the veggies or cheese, and the bread was sooooo soft. YUM!!!! I swear the bread made that sandwich. The handsome got a blackened chicken sandwich. I only had one bite so I can't attest much, but I can tell you that I am definitely getting that next time. Delicious!! Loved the fries... sometime places just don't know how to cut/fry up some good stuff. But Pappy's was perfect for my french fry craving. The blackberry cobbler with a slowly melting scoop of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla ice cream will change your life. I've been here a few times and everything on the menu is excellent. Upon realizing this, it took quite some time to inform the waiter who was also unaware there was bacon in the grits. We had a wonderful experience at Pappy's on 8/12! I called the day before to ask the manager if I could reserve a table for 11 for Friday night. The manager was super accommodating. We came here for my mother's birthday brunch this past Sunday. I was very hopeful about this place due to the positive reviews and that it served southern comfort food but ((sighs)) we did not have a pleasant experience. First off we are a party of 7 (5 adults 2 kids) it took forever for the waitress to bring us our drinks (about a 10 minute wait) my mother ordered sparking water in which she never received because "the bartender forgot" umm ok. The Hawaiian Mimosa. Not that great I sent it back Everybody ordered something different we had a 30-35 MINUTE WAIT for our food. Despite a party of 5 who were seated AFTER us got our food and a party of 4 who sat behind us who also arrived after us and got their food in a timely manner. NOBODY AT OUR TABLE FINISHED THEIR FOOD! BLAND WITH NO FLAVOR!! My niece had a simple sandwich and soup. She did not like it. My cousin ordered a simple shrimp quesadilla, she said it was bland and did not finish it. I ordered my kids a simple chicken and waffles off the brunch menu. Chicken tenders were BLAND! How do you mess up chicken tenders?! You can tell the batter had no seasoning what so ever! A 6 year old and a 2 year old didn't even eat it. They only managed to eat the curly fries. The waitress although nice was slow we were looking for her several times throughout the meal. I had been to the original location and did not know they had moved until I was invited here for lunch. The location is new so everything was clean and well decorated. The Place is set back off the road a little so try not to pass it. This is one of those places that as you see the food going by to other tables you wonder if you should have ordered something else. I followed the yelp suggestion and went with the chicken fried steak. I substituted Macaroni and Cheese for the Mashed Potatoes and The Broccoli Rice Casserole for the Salad. Yes this was a cheat day. Everything was good but the Broccoli Rice Casserole stole the show. Next time I will have the shrimp and catfish. If management is reading this make sure you do whatever it takes to keep Dewanna (sp?)! So, I was staying just down the street at the Courtyard and I was in the mood for a beer. I saw that Pappy's was just down the street so thought I would walk over and have a (as in one!) beer. I sat at the bar and Dewanna immediately addressed me and asked me what I wanted. I made a beer order and she asked me if I had ever had that beer before. I had not, so she gave me a sample to make sure I would be happy with my order. It tasted delicious to me so I ordered a pint (it was St Arnold Christmas Ale, btw). It was afternoon so I wasn't planning on eating yet, but she brought me a sample of the gumbo. Well, the gumbo tasted great so I ordered a bowl. I also ordered another Christmas Ale. I also ordered an appetizer (Buffalo Bites which were tender and juicy!). Then I ordered another beer. So, what I thought would be a quick beer turned into dinner and a couple more beers. Dewanna created a great vibe amongst those of us at bar that I kept ordering because I didn't want to leave. This was not the false "I'm angling for a bigger tip" persona, but was a genuine "I love people and I want you to have a great experience" attitude. Got into town after a very long drive last night hoping to get a decent meal at the nice looking place near the hotel. Ordered some rib and greens (salad/broccoli). I can say that the broccoli was green and heated, so thank you for getting that right. The ribs were sooooo damn dry I have half a mind to give them back. nobody could eat them, and honestly I can't remember the last time I ran across meat that dry except for jerky. Fu.uuuk what a waste and to add insult to injury we got a dam salad with no dressing?? I mean, really Pappy? I don't know if it was a joke or someone was just off but this was messed up. I still recommend getting grub where the getting's good but if you go to Pappy get something else and bring your own dam condiments, or you'll find yourself up at 4am hungry asf and sore in the face after that f.u. open palm to the face from Pappy's . I went to lunch here the other day and nothing has changed! Open since 1983, Pappy's feels more like a country roadside cafe in the hill country than a lunch spot off I-10. Service is fairly quick and friendly and can't remember any time where I've had any issues. Food wise, Pappy's is a great spot if you're looking for greasy spoon country comfort food.
