Beth was super nice. I'm glad I found this shop. It's seems odd that there are no Starbucks inside the terminals at SAT.

It's only fair we try this one this time since our room is not ready yet plus it was only 20 mins from the Airport Rental car place and it was perfect timing for lunch. The place is a dive for a Michelin 2025, small seating area inside but outside is roomier. Definitely friendly service, portions are big for us as we wanted to try a little bit of everything. We ordered minimum 1/2 a lbs of Waygu TriTip, 2 sliced of Brisket & 1 Pork Rib, small Egg Salad & Pickle sides was complimentary. Everything was delicious except the Brisket looked yummy but had an odd smell and after taste and a bit on the salty side and texture was off, we were kinda bummed out as usually that's one of the beat stuff it was unfortunate but we still ate some of it lol. We should've said something but we were so full like we can't eat any more anyway. Hopefully it was just one off.

We arrived around 5pm on a Thursday and got in queue which was out the door and wrapping around the front porch. Their host/doorman was kind, he offered the line water on many occasions and made pleasantries with almost all guests as the line moved. It was a hot day so those waters were clutch. By the time we made it to the front of order line maybe 40 minutes had passed. But ladies and gents the wait is worth it. When we plated our trays on the table my family all had heart eyes, and had equally loved our first bites. Their brisket is extremely tender. It's beautifully sliced and made for an amazing welcome back to the South taste for me. I was in heaven. I particularly enjoyed having the fresh pickled red onion for fresh, zesty cuts through the abundance of other saltier elements on the plate. Their menu is slammin! Their sides, and sausages all had crafty ingredients. I enjoyed their spicy link options and their macaroni was delightful. Their BBQ sauce was a nice 4/5 but certainly did the job. As a native Texan who's had their fair share, this was easily some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Top 5 top 5 top 5. I'm of course coming back and looking forward for more banana cream pudding especially. They were small, slightly sweet, and had great balance with the vanilla wafer ratio. That whip cream on top too had me hooked. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back meal for the bold Texas cuisine, hospitality, and novelty animal and cowboy decor.

I didn't need extra fat from avocado after the corn cakes since it doesn't add much flavor to the dish. The corn cakes are good and I will order again but not as good as some other cornbread. It came with 2 cakes. One was undercooked and one has a crispy crust. The undercooked one was my favorite. It is more moist with soft in the middle. Tuna Al Pastor has a kick but nothing special. Tres Leches was beautiful. 4/5. I like the fresh fruits to cut down the sweetness. The cake was a bit in the dense side. The icing on top was thick. I wish it was a fluffy whip cream to cut down from all the sweetness. Overall it's still a better tres leches than other places in the area.

Great BBQ Before or After Sightseeing…read more Smoke Shack has become one of our go to spots whenever we have guests visiting. It is the perfect stop after showing friends and family the Alamo and the River Walk before heading back home. Just be prepared for a line because every time we have gone, there is usually one. It moves, but it is definitely part of the experience. Our go to items are always the lip smacking brisket. We order a pound of regular and a quarter pound of lean. Both are tender and flavorful. The ribs and sausage are also solid choices. For sides, we rotate between the well seasoned green beans, mac and cheese, beans and okra. All of them are excellent and you really cannot go wrong. Side note. I am not a fan of their corn. I prefer corn that leans sweet rather than spicy, so it is not my favorite. Next time I go, I already know what I want to try. Either the Brisket Sandy or the Brisket Grilled Cheese. Both look incredible. Smoke Shack is always a reliable stop for good Texas BBQ and a great place to bring visitors for an authentic taste of San Antonio.

EVERYTHING I just mentioned was fresh, delicious, and ON POINT and I had enough food left over for dinner and a little leftover for the next day. I definitely got my money's worth. I went there after reading the reviews and having a taste for barbecue chicken. Unfortunately, there was no barbecue chicken or anything I planned to purchase while checking out the menu at the airport. However, I have no regrets and I will be back when I'm in the area. Service: I called while at the airport to make sure they had chicken and I was told yes. I immediately headed straight to the restaurant from the airport. It was my first visit to this restaurant and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed with the service. I wasn't immediately acknowledged. They ran out of everything I planned to purchase between the time I called and drove to the restaurant from the airport (short ride). The area where the condiments are stored was not as clean or organized as it should have been for a restaurant. There seemed to be enough staff to take care of it while I was there. Staff I came in contact with were nice and acknowledged with a smile when I was at my table. There is an area before arriving to the restroom that was not as clean as it should have been. The garbage can was running over with trash. Atmosphere: Loud, joyful, and family friendly environment. I met a family who were looking for a place to sit. I invited them to sit with me and it was great! I will be back the next time I am in the San Antonio area. I'm thinking positively . If you're in the area, check them out and give them a try. I did and I don't regret it. My next visit will be better.

So my wife and I are in San Antonio for a few months and we decided to visit all the Yelp places in San Antonio that made the top 100 for Texas. There are seven of them, and Nelson's BBQ (#21) was the last one on the list for us. I call on Saturday after I get off of work to just ask him if he's still got food left and I find out that his hours are kind of non-standard. He typically takes orders and gets food ready as the orders come in but he's not at his food truck all the time. That was a little bit different for me but he was very accommodating and willing to make his schedule work with mine and get our order done as soon as he could. It did take about 2.5 weeks until it finally worked out but the food was delicious. The timing and communication could've been a little bit better but Mr. Nelson was working hard and really trying to get as much done as possible. Needless to say, the food was delicious. We tried the nasty Nate (our favorite), the Mac n cheese which was delicious, pulled pork (very good), sausage (thought it was going to be a little better), ribs (good), cornbread (very good). The best dish was the nasty Nate and the cornbread but the sausage was disappointing. Still, overall 5 stars for the meal. The wait was a little excessive I thought but I definitely recommend checking his place out if it works out for you because the food was really good! Overall: 4.5 stars

This was by far the worst barbecue I've ever had in quite some time from the beans being straight out of a can to the ribs being mushy with no pull. The brisket was beautiful to look at that extremely tough to the bite. The potato salad is the lone one star I gave this place although it lacked a lot of ingredients it was homemade. All these 4 1/2 star reviews boggle my mind. Maybe we went on a wrong day. I don't know, but there was several people there that were waiting for a long time to receive their orders also They don't have a dining area just some simple chairs sit outside between the parking spots.
