Stopped by this location on a Sunday evening around 6:45 pm. I saw a worker catching a fly with his hand from the closed off glass area that contains the baked pastries (it looks like there are other reviews that also mention flies - gross). Another worker Nathan K who was working the register was pretty rude to myself and my friend when we were paying. He needs to work on his customer service skills. Overall, I won't be coming back to this location. Very disappointing store experience. Also the pastries were not crispy or fresh-tasting. They tasted a little soggy and stale, probably because they had been sitting out since the morning. read more

Good pastries without a doubt! But that's about it. Customer service needs help. On my first visit I got a room temperature "hot chocolate" and when I went to tell the girl at the counter she gave me attitude and I had to ask for her to re do it, she did not offer. So only because I like the pastries I went back this past Friday. I walked in at 8:50pm for a pastry and coffee and they had no more coffee and wouldn't make anymore. It was disappointing again. I'm a local Monrovian and we have been so excited for the long awaited opening of PB. Pastries are amazing. Place is overall clean but needs more attention to clean/wipe tabletops once patrons leave. Customer service is meh...some employees are friendly & will smile & say welcome (usually the bakers), cashiers not so much. Coffee needs to be retrained - on 2 separate occasions they had to be redone. One time it was a plain black coffee that was watered down. The biggest issues are the sandwiches- they always seem to be out, especially vegetarian options. I've been there several times & it seems to be a consistent issue...my latest visit was at 11am and there were very limited sandwiches left (no vegi options)....right before lunch hour. And when you ask the staff for more their response is no that's it & not in a customer friendly way. If sandwiches are not gonna be made to order and if the protocol is to only make a set amount for the entire day, then maybe it's best to not offer sandwiches so that the disappointments is not there when we show up to meet for lunch, and are stuck just eating pastries. It's hard to plan for a lunch meeting & taking a chance of not getting a sandwich. I had originally attributed a lot of these issues being part of being brand new to the area and just working out the quirks with new staffing, etc. But after several weeks it continues and that's why I decided to leave a review in hopes that this can be addressed so the business can continue to prosper. Waited so long for this to open. I've been twice this week. Pros: it is clean. It looks nice. Service was slow but it is the start so that may improve. Cons: the food looks nice but it is bland and tasteless--not French-- it is some sort of imitation French. It does seem like it will become a spot for a quick lunch...not that interesting though. read more

It's my second visit to this bakery . I really like about this place is the pastries and cakes are really fresh. They bake everything right in the cafe and you can watch the cakes being made through the glass display case . The donut croissant and the raspberry almond croissant are very tasty. Pastries were delicious but please take off all those huge advertisements from those beautiful windows. It's such a beautiful building and location - customers want to see the park and mountains, not the ads! Also maybe prop the doors open so customers can enjoy the fresh air. Wish I could give this place a better rating. The level of service here is really bad. The workers seem to be really distracted when working, and don't seem to have the proper training when the store gets busy. Also, it should be important to mention to guest when your oven isn't working, so people do not have expectations of having any parties they choose to not be heated up & enjoyed as they should be. read more

The food and pastries are not spectacular. This is not surprising as it's a franchise from a larger corporate company. This is not a small business. I'm disappointed foremost in my experience with the staff and the management, Alex P in particular. The day I went, November 4th of 2024, I requested ADA accommodations. The girls at the cashier counter giggled and didn't take it seriously. They dismissed me rudely and continued socializing and rushing me through. Sure enough, I ended up not getting my drink to eat with my pastry because the young male employee apparently was just calling out, but didn't come to let me know that the drink was ready. When I inquired, they played dopey, acting silly. The drink was cold by then, the pastry eaten. The pastry as well, again was unsatisfying. I could've bought it for far less money at a number of other places. But the big issue came last week, when I called to ask if they could make the simple ADA accommodation for myself and my senior mother and the first employee who answered the phone hung up on me when I told her that I was calling because on our previous visit I was treated rudely. I called back and asked for the manager. Got Alex P. He launched into a tirade, not letting me get a word in, and raised his voice. Interestingly he claimed there was no female manager working there. However, his wife is that other manager and she was working the 4th of Nov when I was at the location. I tried to flag her down but she was unavailable. I've since notified the corporation, as this is a franchise. I've informed the corporation they should also read the yelp reviews and consider the various and multiple complaints against this business. read more

Yay! So happy the Monrovia location finally opened. Can get my pastry and cake fix. It was pretty crowded when I came in on a Sunday morning around 8:30 ish but it was ok, the line went by fairly quick. The only thing I haven't seen sold at this location are the baguettes, but maybe it was just sold out. Love the coffee the seasonal maple oatmilk latte was delicious and not overly sweet. read more

Just walked in to check out what delectables they offered and was going to pick some things up for work for my coworkers. Then I see a fly inside one of the cases on what looks like a twist donut. I kindly told a gentleman at the register who then told a female. She asked me, " do you know where?" and I replied, "of course I saw it myself". Then proceeded to walk over to the case to show her where the fly was still swarming around walking on several breads. I then told her "luckily most of the breads in this area are wrapped, but this tray is not". Another gentleman proceeds to take out the contaminated tray saying nothing to me with a stoic look. To my surprise not even a thank you for notifying them that some of their pastries have been contaminated. I feel like it would have been common courtesy to at least say thank you so that their customers don't consume them. So overall the staff wasn't friendly or appreciative. Definitely won't be coming back here. I'd rather go to Porto's , 85° bakery, or for cakes and cookies Bluejays in Arcadia does not disappoint... Absolutely my favorite bakery with unique Asian flavors and high grade ingredients. Plus the the owners are super nice unlike this place which in my opinion is overpriced. read more

I have been coming to' Paris Baguette for many many years. I am a landscape architect and I have lived half my life in Japan and half in California where I practice in both countries. In Japan, like everything the Japanese do , is to perfection. When it comes to French pastries. They are absolutely incredible. Perfect. So when I return to California for work and family visits , I always make it a point to go to a bakery that matches quality and perfection...Paris baguette . Because it is as authentic to the pastries in Europe and in Japan, as you're going to get in California. No other bakery compares. Fortunately, Paris baguette is expanding many stores and one store that I appreciate most is Alex's Monrovia Paris, baguette for everything from small tarts to fruit filled to custard and different types of Yakimo paste pastries. Cakes for events are beautiful, The staff there at the Monrovia store are always so accommodating, friendly, sharing suggestions, and offering details on how the pastries are prepared. furthermore, walking into Alex's Paris. it feels exactly like I'm walking into my favorite pastry store in Japan.. The store is tastefully designed and display the different pastries and donuts and the environment Beautiful , and clean. The bathrooms are the same , spotless, the staff regularly go in and make sure it is as clean and fresh for the next customer. These things matter to me . I went to the soft opening and had their mochi donut...it was to die for!! I also am huge on black coffee and it was so smooth and delicious. You can tell the coffee had been freshly brewed the day of. Service was great!! As for the ambiance it was very welcoming! read more

Yes, there's Paris Baguettes elsewhere, BUT THIS IS THE BEST. So excited to have this in downtown Monrovia, it outdoes all other coffee and pastries in town, by a country mile. It has the vibe of a small town cafe this one, the owner is super nice, and everyone makes me kids feel welcome here.
