Big fan of this place. I've been here multiple times now and have mostly gotten their sandwiches. The Le Mistral (steak sandwich) is absolutely amazing with perfectly cooked steak every time. The Fox (spicy pork cutlet) is tied for my favorite. Tried a few others that were really good as well but these are the obvious standouts if you eat steak or pork. I recommend the potato salad on the side rather than boring chips. Beer selection is always solid with reasonable prices for Boston. Service has always been great. Nice spot for a casual lunch or an upscale casual dinner. read more

The food was really disappointing. A bland Rachel sandwich on store-bought bread for $24, and it barely filled a quarter of the plate. I tried a few things, but all were small and none were as good as I could cook at home. Staff were nice. read more

Brilliant idea! Take the top chefs in Boston. Ask them to create a recipe for their favorite sandwich. Create a menu with these top-Chef sandwiches, and create a café that highlights their creations. That's Parish Café and Bar. On a recent visit to Boston the concierge at our hotel recommended Parish for lunch, and it was the perfect choice. A short wait at 1:30 PM and we're able to sit inside at a cozy window table. Service was not spectacular, but acceptable. The sandwiches were the star of the show, however. The Hawaii Five-0 was a pulled barbecue pork sandwich on a King's barbecue roll topped with red cabbage, coleslaw, white American cheese, pineapple, barbecue sauce, jalapeños, and a grilled pineapple. It was delicious deliciousness on a plate! Oversized, I was too full to really enjoy the accompanying home made potato salad. Miss M had the Le Mistral, a rare beef tenderloin sandwich with caramelized, onions, crispy onions, arugula, mashed potatoes, cheese truffle aïoli on ciabatta bread. She loved it, and like me could not make it all the way through the sandwich - it was so big! There is a sandwich selection for everyone here at Parish. In warmer weather, the patio is wonderful. A couple blocks from Copley, Parish Café is the perfect casual lunch spot in the Back Bay section of Boston. read more

Simply put- SO GOOD. I love a good sandwich and this place has sandwiches of all kinds. Flavors, shapes sizes you name it. To be honest I was overwhelmed by the selection of sandwiches. So overwhelmed I told the server to just surprise me. I'd be happy with anything he chose. And wow did that surprise SLAP. He asked if I liked spicy, game over. Out comes this beautiful sandwich with so many flavors and colors going on. Never told me what the surprise was, I just ate it. I later found out it's called the Fox. If you eat pork cutlets and like spice please do yourself a favor and order this sandwich. Oh also the broccoli cheddar soup **chefs kiss**. You could tell they make it from scratch there. Not one of the heat up in a bag types that a lot of restaurants seem to do these days. This restaurant had great indoor and outdoor seating alike. Will be back when I'm in Boston! read more

I've been coming to this place for over 10 years and if it ever closed, I would cry. All the sandwiches are bomb. Their burger is also so good. Great place to get a beer. One of the few places in the area that is open late. Parish is a Boston staple. read more

I visited here with a friend for lunch on a busy weekend, and was happy to be seated almost immediately. This restaurant is so close to the Boston Common, so it's an ideal place to stop and eat if you're in the downtown or Back Bay area. I always had this restaurant on my "must try" list since I've heard great things - and although I think it was good, it's definitely a bit overrated in my opinion. Their sandwich selection here is HUGE and consists of a lot of unique flavors and varieties. However, these sandwiches are also incredibly expensive.... like, $20 minimum. After much deliberation, I ordered "The Fox" sandwich which came with a side of chips. The meat and veggies were fresh and tasty, but I was surprised how overwhelming the "chili relish" spread was. I feel like I'm pretty tolerant of spice, but this spread was so spicy that I almost couldn't even finish the food. I'm not sure if they put more on than usual or something, but I really wouldn't order this again. Besides this, it was still good but definitely not worth the $25 it cost me. read more

Run here and order the fox. It's amazing. The fox & knife pork milanese is what the sandwich is based off of. The crispy pork, saffron aioli and apple make this sandwich so complex & delicious. I haven't had a sandwich this good in a long time so I have been recommending it to everyone! I've also had the truffle sandwich with mushrooms (regal regis). It's good but I will only be ordering the fox while it's available! The sandwiches are a bit pricey ($20-25 range) but they are made with high quality ingredients and are a good portion size. Traveling with a dog in October we were in need of a place with a nice patio area to eat. Parish had a large covered patio with ample seating. Their menu had a lot of unique sandwiches, but I stuck with Mac and cheese, which had great flavor and was very filling. I also tried the pumpkin espresso martini and a Pom Paloma, which were nice after a long conference day. Prices were reasonable and staff was very friendly and accommodating. read more

My partner and I ordered the Fox and Le Mistral sandwiches, plus taquitos - TASTE: 5/5 - the Fox was phenomenal. Came here late night with some friends and didn't even know about the sandwich deal- shout out to our waitress for mentioning it! The drinks were unique and the sandwiches hit the spot. Will definitely be returning. We loved how this cafe isn't on a super busy street- despite the being on the patio it still felt very intimate and cozy. Started off with the onion rings which were light and crispy. Generous portion. Got the parish chicken which was decent. But the fox was fire. Huge sandwhich with a perfectly cooked cutlet. One of my fav all time spots in downtown!! Their truffle beef sandwich is such a winner. I swear I'm addicted to it. 2nd time coming here late night. They have a special on there sandwiches for half off after 10pm. The sandwiches are all different with quality ingredients and full of flavors. My husband and I shared the Fox sandwich, which has crispy pork, pickled onions, apple slices, and cheese. The bottom bun had a spiced pepper jam that was too spicy for me but my husband loved it. The food was okay. On this Wednesday night visit, it seemed like a low-key crowd which was fine with us! Since their claim to fame are their sandwiches, perhaps the place draws a large lunch crowd. We ordered: Kettle Chips Baked Mac and Cheese The Burke sandwich Of the three items, I liked the kettle chips best. It's akin to nachos but room temp and kettle chips in lieu of nachos. The Mac and cheese was ok; a tad bit bland. However, a splash of hot sauce does wonders. I wanted to really like the sandwich but there was something missing. I didn't hate the sandwich. I'm just not sure I will order it again. Perhaps we ordered the wrong sandwich. Don't let our experience stop you from visiting. The menu looks delicious and we only ordered three items. I'm obsessed with Parish and wish I could've gone multiple times while visiting Boston! We had the best experience. First of all, the food is great. The Bristol Sandwich had so much flavor! I can't remember what exactly was seasoning the chicken, sauce, and bread, but it was sooo good. Even the side salad was delicious and the onion rings broke easily without the whole onion sliding out! I was impressed all around. I would also give 5 stars to the atmosphere, great central location (near Boston Commons), and service. We accidentally left a bag and they went out of their way to get it back to us. Ordered the flour BLT for a quick bite. Recommend. Will be back. Food 7.5/10 Fresh ingredients, finely toasted bread and savory tomato confit. The sauce, basil mayo, is the perfect completion. The downside: I would choose a different bacon at least this time it was dry and little flavored, feels like eating overcooked chips. Service 7/10 Good service. Dining method: Dine-in Item(s) ordered: Eggplant milanesa sandwich, Hajj sandwich, Blue Comet NE IPA, Second Fiddle DIPA Speed: Fast! Food came in under 20 minutes. The short answer: The sandwiches are Parish's specialty! With intricate combinations of flavors and fresh ingredients, they really live up to the hype! Great place, a little bit pricey. The long answer: The eggplant milanesa brought me back to eating tortas in Mexico as a kiddo. I never thought I'd have a vegetarian option, with perfectly crispy eggplant, to boot! Food was good, staff were very nice and attentive. As for options, Parish has a small amount of vegetarian options (two sandwiches). The prices are honestly quite high, but I imagine we are paying for the prime location, next to the public garden. Also, the beer glasses were a bit smaller than usual and were not filled to the top, but rather had a ton of foam. For an $11 beer I'd expect a little more. The outdoor ambiance was very run-down, with no lighting outside (hence the dark pictures). The interior was outdated and the bathrooms even more so. All in all, it was good, but if I'm paying over $20 for a sandwich, I truly hope to feel like I'm in a nice place. read more

Parish is unique in that they feature popular sandwiches created by chefs from other restaurants. Their newest addition was a Korean fried chicken sandwich featured at Little Donkey in Cambridge. They also brought back the Nebo which is an on and off special of a fresh baguette, olive tapenade, tuna, sliced boiled eggs, lettuce, tomato, red onions and secret sauce. My friend and I split the Nebo and the Tuna Nicoise salad. Everything was fresh and tasted delicious. Yes slightly on the pricier side for a sandwich but well worth it every now and then. Established in 1992.

The Parish Cafe opened in November 1992. Its concept is simple, yet fabulous! Owner Gordon Wilcox approached Boston's famous chefs and asked them each to create a sandwich for the Parish Cafe menu. Each sandwich is named for the chef and the restaurant they are from. Since our menu items are created by other chefs our standards are extremely high, which shows through in our enormous following. The name "Parish Cafe" comes from one of Gordon's favorite books, "Love in the Time of Cholera" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

While the rest of us were served scones, my stepdaughter was given cut fruit in their place, and told that was all they had to accommodate.The dessert course consisted of what appeared to be basic gluten-free cookies, misrepresented as something more gourmet - egg nog cookies??? This lack of preparation was both disappointing, upsetting and avoidable. The broader experience was equally concerning. We were subjected to an unsolicited and uncomfortable "lesson" on tea service, which detracted from what should have been a relaxed and celebratory occasion. While trying to enjoy the time with the girls, being a lifelong tea drinker and someone who has been to many times at your establishment and its various incarnations, this is something I have never experienced. The food quality was poor (scones were clearly reheated and stuck to the cloth napkin they were wrapped in), and there were notable service lapses, including being served water in a visibly shattered glass. Additionally, when hot water was added to refresh the tea, my stepdaughter's pot curdled and had to be replaced. It was especially disappointing, as I mentioned that I had stopped in and spoken with the concierge, and was assured, as they had called the kitchen while I stood there that they readily accommodated gluten-free. There are numerous places in the city that could have done this, and if you had just told me that you could not do so, I would have booked us elsewhere. I chose not to raise the multiple issues in the moment so as not to disrupt what was meant to be a special day for the girls and me. I was introduced to the Parish Café by a few friends and former coworkers and the illustrious Phantom Gourmet. I don't always believe the Phantom so the coworker recommendation held far more weight with me. I don't normally get all jazzed up about sandwiches; I mean, how hard is it to make a good sandwich? Bread, a few toppings, go. I noshed on 'Rowdy's Famous Chicken Sandwich' and, while not exactly health conscious, it was amazing. Chicken cutlet, swiss and cheddar cheese, bacon (mmmm, bacon). My boyfriend and I have been to Parish on boylston many, many times. Several of the waiters and bartenders recognize us and I know Leah from working with her at another restaurant. We have always received good service. This last time I went with three friends and was severely disappointed. It was Sunday June 29th at about 9:30 pm, there were plenty of wait staff on (all of which I recognized), there weren't many tables, and yet we were severely neglected. We have had slow service here before and been totally cool with it but this time it was horrendous. We would have ordered more drinks if we had been attended to- which we were not. My friend paid with his card and tipped 15% which was generous in this situation and I still tipped cash on top of that to make it 20%. It goes against my conscience not to. If I could give no stars I would. This place DISGUSTED me. The kicker of the whole thing is that we didn't even get into the place! It was later on a Friday evening and we were all out celebrating a friend's birthday. I'd had ONE rum and coke before deciding we wanted to grab some food from the cafe. My boyfriend and I were tickling and playing around as we got to the entrance. The bouncer thus informs me that I was far too "drunk" and "unsuitable" to enter their oh so precious establishment. Then the bouncer told a friend of mine that he "didn't like the way he was dressed" (just your average t-shirt and jeans mind you) and he couldn't go in either! So all and all....this place is effing dumb and lost out on drinks and food for 10 people that night. All because the bouncer couldn't tell a happy couple from a drunk couple. read more

The owners of Parish Cafe have the distinction of personally knowing most of the chefs in Boston. The Parish recruited different chefs from around the city to each create a sandwich for their restaurant. You can't go wrong with Norma's Zuni roll, a turkey, bacon and havarti wrap served with either potato salad or cole slaw. I always ask for a bit of each because both are so tasty I can't pick just one. The Regis is also yummy if you're in the mood for beef and portabellos. They serve food until very late (1am) and have a large selection of draught and bottled beers. The beer club looks like a lot of fun. The service is attentive withouth being a pain in the ass. Outdoor seating makes it a good spot for people watching. Some people flinch at the prices but, hey, it's Back Bay and it's not too outrageous! read more

The main feature of this restaurant? Sandwiches. While it may seem kind of lame to pay $10.95+ for a sandwich, what's interesting is that each sandwich was created by a different, renown chef in the area. Reading the menu is an interesting way to sample the restaurants of Boston while wondering how in the world the owner convinced all these guys to make sandwiches for him. Unfortunately, yeah, it's over-hyped. The food's good but not spectacular, and it's certainly not enough to make me a regular. The one nicety about this place, though, is the drink menu. I stopped here to escape the rain one early afternoon and compensated myself with the white chocolate bread pudding and a shot of single-malt whiskey. It was the perfect combination and was so delicious it made me happy despite the rain. The bartender was amused but humored me in my whim, and later on a young man gave me his seat on the T. (Possibly detecting the aura of whiskey I was exuding.) I live in Vermont and enjoy having the occasional urban interlude. It was perfect. Again while visiting Boston, my friends insisted on visiting Parish.,.. I was up for anything and I was surprised. Its super cute inside. We got there and they were fairly busy with a late lunch crowd but we were still able to get a table right away. All their sandwiches are designed by chefs around the city which is a really cool concept. I had the regal regis and ate the entire thing! Honestly, there wasn't a crumb left on my plate. we had a Gals lunch out at work last week and decided to go to Parish Cafe in the Back Bay, we sat at the outdoor patio area, it was a warm spring day, had to get out of the office, and since there was more than four of us from the same dept. Lunch is a write off! Great little company perk. I had the spring mixer salad with berry and warm goat cheese SO GOOD, went very well with the paired beer selection of Pretty Things, can't wait to go back next week, i.e. another company lunch meeting, thanks boss! read more

i love this place!!! they make AWSOME sandwiches and drinks. they even have this "beer club" thing (dont really no what its called!) and after you finish the list on beers on the list they give u a big mug that u can write your owe sayings on it and you can leave it there and fill it up everytime with extra oz of beer! staff is super nice(except one guy behind the bar, manager maybe?super craby but maybe it was just a bad day for him, so ill still say 5 stars!!! read more

I will be honest on this thing, that this restaurant deserves way more than it is. The servers are really friendly and very attentive. Since it was my first time, the food is really good and rowdy's chicken sandwich which i ordered was full of taste and comes with a choice of side .They also have a patio seating outside and it is very nice. I agree with others, prices are very high-- but after all, you are on Newbury Street. Eat outside if you can-- great people watching, though inside offers a nice cozy atmosphere. This is a solid go-to for myself since I moved to Boston. I have never had a bad meal here. The concept is that the menu is "donated" from chefs around the city. For example the elephants walking on eggs is a dish created by the chef at the elephant walk. The menu is mostly limited to sandwiches and a few salads so If you're looking for a more extensive menu this probably isn't the place to go. What they do have is fantastic though. read more

I always bring friends and family here when they're visiting. I'm usually not that impressed by a sandwich but there are by far the best in Boston. Here's a tip: the first 5 sandwiches on the menu are their top sellers. I had the Zuni Roll and ate every last bite. In the summer time, it's a nice place to sit outside. read more

Still, each bit was satisfyingly meaty and full. It also came with melted cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a cajun aioli which was pretty tasty. There were a few pickles on the side which was a nice addition as well. All in all, a filling and tasty burger that hits the spot when you want something meaty and carb-loaded. I've had better burgers but I've also had worse ones. This comes in at "above average" for the herbs and butter on the meat as well as the amount of food you get for the price. Not a bad meal!
