The Park Chalet at Ocean Beach is such a fabulous place to hang out with friends and family. Facing the park, it's absolutely beautiful on a sunny day to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. When it's cold, the indoor seating is warm and cozy, especially near the fireplace. The food is always a highlight, the fish and chips are crispy and delicious, the lobster mac and cheese is rich and comforting, the truffle fries are a must, and the smoked salmon Benedict is absolutely amazing. Their Sunday brunch menu is especially comforting and filling, with everything you could want, appetizer's, main course, dessert, and of course a drink to complete the experience. Mimosas and draft beer always hit the spot! The service is consistently flawless and impressively fast, even when it's busy. Gorgeous restaurant right by the beach. Staff were nice and patient. 30$ for a French dip is pretty wild and it was very light on the meat, the au jus dip was more of a consome'. The sandwich itself was delicious, but wasn't very filling. My homie said the burger was good but not 30$ good, if that makes sense. You have so much going for you--the food is consistently good, the drinks are well-made, the staff has always been friendly, and the atmosphere is truly unmatched. On a sunny afternoon, there's nowhere better on this side of the city. But here's the honest feedback: your hours are a real problem. You close at 6 PM, and even then, the schedule seems inconsistent. There have been multiple times when we've rushed our family and friends over for an early dinner, only to find out you've closed early that day for no clear reason. It's frustrating, and it makes it hard for locals like us to rely on you as a go-to spot. This place has so much potential to be a weekly staple for families living nearby. But between the early closing and the operational hiccups, we often have to look elsewhere. It feels like ownership isn't interested in making changes or listening to feedback. If you adjusted the hours--even just staying open until 8 or 9 PM--and smoothed out the schedule, I would make it my mission to keep the place busy year-round. I honestly love this spot! The views of the ocean are incredible, I used to go regularly years ago and just recently came back and the food was just as amazing as I remember. The calamari was delicious and crispy, the brussel sprouts were fried to perfection, and the clam chowder was flavorful and delicious. Our server knew it was a birthday surprise and kept winking at my friend that he was bringing a dessert, and they brought the most delectable tres leches. 10/10 service. I have been walking past this place for years and I didn't know it was a different restaurant than the one upstairs. There was no wait compared to the Beach Chalet on a Sunday morning. My family and I were starving and glad to be seated immediately. The wait staff are very attentive and checked on us often. The ambience of the place reminds me of a greenhouse. Thankfully, it does not get too hot in there. The glass walls and ceiling give you an opportunity to enjoy the surrounding greenery. I have not had a Shirley Temple in a while and it was very refreshing. It was not too sweet. The Maraschino cherries were on the bottom. They were so dark I thought they were grapes. The lemon ricotta beignets are great to share for the table. The slivered almonds and the powdered sugar are a great touch. The jam adds some tartness, but can be dipped instead of poured on. The Parmesan truffle fries were crispy and fresh out of the fryer. They didn't skimp on the Parmesan on top! The aioli and ketchup were great condiments. The impossible burger was a favorite. They know how to make a burger complete with all the fixings. We recommend adding an avocado. It was worth the extra couple dollars. It comes with a generous side of salad. The Ocean Beach Breakfast was ok. The chicken sausage and scrambled eggs were overcooked. The sourdough toast was fine. The potatoes were good and seasoned well. The Joe's special was something available that morning. The scramble was so good. Each bite was a well balanced meal in itself. The ground beef added some meatiness and protein, the cheese was melted perfectly, the eggs were fluffy and the veggies made you not feel guilty for the other parts. We found out that the potatoes are seasoned differently for this one. It has some spice that gave it some kick, so be warned. Overall, food was a hit and my family said they would like to come here again. The space is great for families/groups/friends to be able to do brunch. My friends had suggested this restaurant, as there is outdoor space in the back for our kiddos to run around and play. We strategically decided to come here with them on a Saturday at 10am, right when they opened, for brunch. This was a fantastic choice for our situation, if you have kids and want a low key experience with not many other customers. It was easy to get any table we wanted, with options including indoor under the nice glass ceiling, outdoors on picnic tables, and outdoors on picnic tables on top of the concrete. This place is also dog friendly. I came in with pretty low expectations, as I remember coming here over 20 years ago, and found the food really horrible at that time. But our friends suggested it, and decided to give it another shot. My husband and I each ordered the two burgers - the Park burger, and the Park Paradise Burger. I actually really enjoyed my Park burger and fries! It was a simple burger for sure, but just executed pretty well surprisingly. I also appreciated that it came with fries, that were good too. The kids menu was the big hit though. It's on the back of the coloring page they offer for kids with crayons, and has at least 6-7 items to choose from. We got our daughter the chicken tenders which came with French fries and fresh fruits (pineapple, grapes, strawberries), and it was a huge plate! The chicken tenders were actually really, really good - my husband and I were so surprised! It was juicy and flavorful, and had great crispy batter on the outside. The fruits were big and fresh, and delicious too. Not only that, it was only $10. The plate was so big, we took it home for leftovers. Our friends had ordered pasta for their kids too, and they also got a huge bowl for $10. Not bad at all. I was really happy with my experience here, and would return with friends (with kids) again in the future for brunch. We visited because they advertised that Santa would around 12/20 and 12/21 during brunch hours. We arrived around 1pm and were seated but didn't find any Santa or any of the crafts advertised by the website. We were led to think that the kids would have a blast hanging out and doing Christmasy things. While we eventually were able to take a photo with Santa, we had to ask our server twice about the Santa photo. That was disappointing. We ordered the champagne brunch, Mac and cheese, and Thai salad. No lie, all the food served to us was tasteless. My niece complained that she didn't taste any cheese in her Mac and cheese. I tried it and it tasted like severely watered down fake cheese. Unfortunately my Thai Salad was also not tasty. My mother was also disappointed by the champagne brunch. SERVICE: started out friendly but our server completely forgot about us afterwards. The coffee cup stood empty for most of the meal, even after she asked if we wanted a refill and we said yes - TWICE. So that was service - usually great but not stellar on this visit. FOOD: We ordered CORNED BEEF HASH. Eggs were perfectly poached. Corned beef was mediocre in that it was more moist than I like. However, my "beef" is with the amount of actual hash vs bread. The bread slices were HUGE and dry, as if to take away from the otherwise small portion for the price. SMOKED SALMON BENEDICT also good, lemon hollandaise smooth and creamy. The added home fries cubed and fried well. Not too salty. Local beer offerings always good. AMBIANCE: Fabulous, especially in a clear day. The back of the restaurant opens to GGPark. People come with dogs and kids, who can gleefully run about on the grassy outside part of the restaurant that abuts a narrow walk path in the park. We came to Park Chalet to celebrate Mother's Day. The restaurant itself is beautiful, it looks like a large greenhouse which was perfect for the cool but sunny morning. In addition to the indoor seating, there are picnic tables outside for more casual dog-friendly seating. Our reservation was for 10:00 am which was when the restaurant opened. The staff seemed a little disheveled and unprepared for opening and the Mother's Day rush. After some time and confusion amongst the staff we got seated. We were a reservation of seven and we were placed at a table that would typically accommodate 4-5 so it was a little snug to start. Regarding the food, everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. The french fries were a standout among our table. Half the table got the Ocean Beach Breakfast, so it would be hard to mess up eggs and toast. I ordered the Park Benedict and enjoyed it; the rosemary breakfast potatoes were especially flavorful! My boyfriend ordered the Park Burger, medium, and unfortunately it arrived very well-done, but he still enjoyed it. The service was pretty slow, and our server only checked back in when all the meals were finished. It also took about 20 minutes after having requested the bill to receive it. It did look like they called a staff meeting while we were there so there may have been staffing issues. Overall, it was a cute place to celebrate Mother's Day, but we likely won't be back anytime soon. read more

We came here several Saturdays ago as we had received a gift card that could be used for the Beach or Park Chalet. Mind you we grew up in the city and went to high school and college in SF but these locations were never spots we frequented as they felt kind of touristy destinations. We decided to try the Park Chalet side because at first glance the atmosphere looked nice and relaxed and it was a sunny day. There's an outdoor patio and there's an indoor patio enclosed with glass structure which made for a nice and bright seating area. We made a reservation and when we got there the host area is weird. We had a reservation but we still had to wait in the line, hmm? Anyway the wait was not that long to be seated. Menu looked decent and not overwhelming. I ordered the lobster/shrimp roll and wish I hadn't. My spouse had the burger which would have been a better choice. The burger was tasty and salad was nice. Now for the lobster roll, the highlight was the bread and the lobster/shrimp was bland and salty at the same time. Also the coleslaw was the worst I ever had- coleslaw should be crunchy and light - there's was super soggy...gross. And the fries were almost cold, so they were hard and not crunchy. Makes you wonder if my order was sitting on the counter for a bit before it got to me. The saving grace is that we were paying with a gift card. Service by our waitress was ok and from I can tell wait staff as whole were friendly and attentive. I don't think I'll be back to try anything else. It's very hard for me to give a place a second chance because the menu is nothing special and would prefer to spend money where I know the food is spot on each time. Dining inside the glasshouse is much preferable to being outside in the potentially chilly albeit nice picnic tables, as this is the windy Ocean Beach area at the west end of the Sunset District. And inside is a must if there's even worse inclement weather. Weekend brunch on a beautiful day was excellent. Most everyone in our group of family and relatives genuinely declared their selections delicious. Cocktails and beers were flowing. The only person slightly disappointed with their order was someone who got minestrone that she found too tart from lemon. I enjoyed Egg Benedict with Canadian bacon, and the English muffin was more like a crumpet. Textbook perfect poached eggs sat atop the ham slices on the bread rounds. Delectable. My mother, the celebrant of honour, thoroughly enjoyed her salmon entrée. Other excellent fare at our table included Corned beef hash with Poached eggs and thick toast triangles, as well as some flawless Fish and Chips. Service and ambiance are gracious, lively and lovely for such a busy restaurant. It's a fabulous picturesque and chill neighborhood. Visited twice - once for family brunch (2 people) and once for lunch with friends (3 adults, 2 kids). Both experiences were disappointing. Prices: expensive. I'm happy to pay a high bill for delicious food, nice atmosphere and good service. But all three are lacking, so the price is just not worth it. Food: Overall not good. Some people didn't finish their meals. The Eggs Benedict was bland, and the shrimp pasta was disappointing. My son didn't like the mac and cheese (which is surprising, since it's usually hard to mess up). Drinks: No water refills like others stated. But also, only drip coffee is available. No espresso drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, or mochas, which is unexpected for a brunch spot. Service: Very poor. Food took an extremely long time. Two burgers were delayed so much that one friend had to leave. When she asked to have her burger packed to go, the server packed the wrong meal. Staff seemed annoyed when asked for help. I like that it's outdoors in the park, but honestly, grabbing a sandwich to go and sitting in the park itself for free with good vibes feels like a better option. We'd originally planned to dine at Beach Chalet, but it was extremely crowded during lunch on a Friday, so we were routed over to Park Chalet which had easy accommodations for our party of 4. I'd visited Park Chalet about a year ago in 2023 and it was a good experience. I'd subsequently visited Beach Chalet later last year, and liked my experience at Park Chalet a lot better, but wanted to give Beach Chalet another chance to experience. Although I didn't this past trip, I did at least get to visit Park Chalet again to confirm it's a wonderful place. I feel there's minor differences in the menus of Beach Chalet and Park Chalet, so it's a similar culinary experience. You can check the menus online or at the door to compare. Many items are parallel to the Park and Beach restaurants. Kudos to Mr. Dustin Durham and General Manager, Mr. Ivor Bradley who runs a great restaurant as the faces of the establishment. We had excellent service. The food was delivered fast and fresh, prepared to order without incident. Parking can be tough here, but maybe that's a testament to it's popularity on The Great Highway near Golden Gate Park. The ambiance of Park Chalet is excellent, it's quaint and peaceful. We had tried: Clam Chowder Calamari Salmon Fish & Chips Lobster & Shrimp Roll They all received high marks from each of our diner's. I think kids will always love the Fish & Chips. My son, who's a selective (i.e., picky and fussy) eater loved that dish the times we came before but tried the salmon on this date and loved it as well as the calamari. I had the Lobster & Shrimp Roll. I could have sworn in 2023 it was a pure Lobster roll without shrimp, but I could be mistaken. The key to the successful experience was in the service by Ivor's staff and his and Dustin's management, which their hard work and efforts show brilliantly as a very pleasant dining experience that I'd recommend to tourist and locals alike. read more

What a holiday disappointment. The Thanksgiving prix-fixe menu we had is listed below. The small salad (with bitter endive, which I liked, others didn't) with no choice of dressing (at least none was offered, there was just a hint of dressing already on it). "Turkey" was two marginally warm slices of a small turkey roll, an ice cream scoop of dressing, some unremarkable potatoes, and a few roasted veggies. The apple crisp was pretty good, it would have been nice if it were warmed up, but nothing else served for dinner was particularly warm either. Other members of our party didn't think the cheesecake or squash soup was anything to write home about. Server was delightful, and it's a nice environment. Total for 7 with tax, tip, and San Francisco's Restaurant Dining Deterrent tax was near $1000. Did I mention this was a mediocre dinner for 7?? Looking back, we should have given up the view and ate at a local diner, had a large, hot meal with real carved turkey and saved about $700...or even more by reheating our own deli takeouts. I gotta update my review as this place has been extremely solid over the past two years. The food is not cheap, but for San Francisco prices, it's extremely reasonable. The fried chicken, for example could easily feed two people for the price of a smaller fried chicken plate at other San Francisco restaurants. Is it my favorite fried chicken in the city? No but it's much better than it needs to be fora restaurant in such a beautiful location. There's a great outdoor patio area with space for kids to play and a nice casual indoor environment as well. It's next to the soccer fields and the windmills and the beach and is an ideal place to go with friends. I love everything about this place except for our server. We had reservations at 11:45am on a Saturday. They sat us outside on the picnic tables which was fine because we had our three huskies. Started with two Bloody Mary. I think they were okay, nothing special. Ordered: Half dozen oysters, calamari, clam chowder, lobster roll, house salad, and fish and chips. We finished lunch off with the strawberry shortcake and tiramisu. Everything was fresh and delicious. The food was really spectacular. Prepared at the right temperature, nothing was bad. Oysters had a nice vinegar mignette, calamari was crispy with a nice aioli, house salad was actually my favorite. The lobster roll had both a mound of fries and coleslaw. Park Chalet (not to be confused with the Beach Chalet) upstairs is a great spot to grab some food and a drink while walking through the park. One of the most dog friendly spots in the city! You have the option of sitting outside on the lawn area or inside. Our server even brought a bowl of water for our pup! If you come on the weekend or a nice day you will likely be faced with a wait which is too be expected but you can almost always walk in on a weekday. Great beer list as well which are all house brewed. I always get the clam chowder it is a great deal! Only $13 in the bread bowl and super good! read more

Came in for some brew after our dinner next door. It's walking distance from Golden Gate Park but it's a long walk I suspect? They had good selections of brews, hubby tried a coffee stout which was very tasty and strong. I had a chamomile tea cause I was sober at the moment. I always find it's amusing to be sober and hang out at a bar. Bartenders usually looked kind of confused for a short while! We intended to go to the Beach Chalet upstairs to order mussels, but we got too excited when we arrived and headed straight for the host stand downstairs to get a table. THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT RESTAURANTS. Very confusing. Now that you know... moving on... We snagged two seats at the bar in about 15 minutes during a busy August afternoon, and our bartender was hospitable and educated us about the two restaurants and then suggested the fish &chips and oysters. The fish and chips were excellent, but the coleslaw sucked, it was too soggy, and they piled too much on, and it had zero crunch. I was disappointed because I love slaw. The oysters were also just okay, unremarkable. Additionally, they have RED ALE! It's so hard to find red ale, so I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found out they had it. It's my favorite and only beer I'll drink at bars. We even got a growler to go :) It was the best. It's expensive, lots of tourists, families, and solo diners. For a beautiful restaurant on the water, it lacked character in its ambiance. I can't put my finger on it; it just didn't strike me as a unique restaurant, even though the inside felt like you were in a greenhouse.
