The menu's been revised again. Most notable change is the double smash burger. Hubby & I came to eat two days in a row, yesterday & today after golf. Yesterday we played Harding. Today we played Fleming. Yesterday for draft beers and buffalo wings. Today for draft beers and the double smash burger which we planned to share. We added bacon for additional $2. The kitchen split the burger for us. It was cooked perfectly and the bacon gave it more flavor. Today we were party of four. The restaurant allowed two credit cards. We asked for separate checks. Yesterday there were eight of us which meant automatic 20% gratuity. There's always non golfers eating here. Yesterday we saw a fellow ballroom dancer from our local gym. Today we saw our neighbor from across the street. It's a testament to the great food and service here and the wonderful view of the 18th hole. read more

We love coming here after a round of golf at Harding. But for some reason we are always short when chipping in for the bill for 8 people. There is already a gratuity of $36 added in and then there is also a mandate of over $8 so people don't realize when we split the bill you have to add in $6 on top of their food total plus tax per person. That being said, the food and martinis are always good. Several of us ordered the smash burger with fries. Burger was excellent. The bread was soft but durable for the burger. We requested crispy fries, was still soggy for my liking. Should have asked for double fried Fries. Otherwise we were short like $20 when chipping in for the bill. The food is fine here (read the menu and the other reviews for details), but what knocked me out was the service our party of 7 received yesterday, a very busy Sunday. Our server was not only quick and unobtrusive, but she anticipated every need and met it. Water glasses were topped up promptly. When there was one lonely onion ring appetizer left on the plate she watched from a distance until a diner had taken it. When we had stopped eating, she noted the food remaining on our plates, and take-home containers appeared without being requested. She never hovered, but she was totally tuned in to our dining experience; five stars to her! read more

On our trek back to the parking lot after a 4.8 mile lap around Lake Merced, we cut through the golf course and Cypress Grill is our pit stop to catch our breath for a sec...and also enjoy a quick snack and drink because why not : ) Was craving a good Bloody Mary. Unfortunately, it was just ok, not very well balanced and just missing something extra to make it memorable. I'm still on the hunt for something that will rival the BM at The Ramp. The search continues. How about a snack? We tried the hot dog from the window outside which had them spinning on little rotisseries--always a good sign. And we were right, the hot dog here ROCKS. planned a lunch group of five at this location. They only serve breakfast on the weekends, thats ok, group was seated, 11AM, they just opened. Staff was nice, not pressuring us to order, we finally get settled, lunch was fine. The chicken katsu was so large, we joked it may have been a large breaded rodent. Two of us asked for burgers cooked medium rare and it looked more medium, continuous refilling of our water glasses, cleared our plates and we just kept catching up and no pressure to leave and the place filled up along the windows and a large group by the bar, still pleasant and a nice walk from the car to the lodge grill. This was a very good restaurant pre-Covid. Nice view of the golf course and Lake Merced, plus quality food at slightly higher, but still reasonable prices. Post-Covid it has gone into a steady decline. Management and staff changes, lower quality food, and higher prices have occurred. Now, the prices are absurd, the food portions are small, and the quality is terrible from my experience yesterday. After not eating there for some time because of the rise in prices and reduced quantity over the last couple years, I made the mistake of going there after playing golf and ordered the tuna melt sandwich. It was priced at $22 for 2 pieces grilled sourdough and a small amount of Tuna salad stuffed in between. The advertised "onion rings" were chopped up and made part of the sandwich mix! The side of "fresh fruit" was fresh in name only and was an added $2.00! Totally disgusting rip off. I recommend you avoid that choice like the plague if you make the same mistake as I did by even trying this place. Maybe the hamburger and salads are still good, they were great before, but I recommend you do not waste your time or money venturing in to find out. Terrible experience. A couple of months ago I would have given Cypress a 4 or 5 Star review, but the new menu there is a huge disappointment. Many fewer choices, especially salads and sandwiches. Prices up and portions are smaller. As a vegetarian I now have almost no menu options there. And the others in my golf group who are not vegetarian are also disappointed by the removal of their favorite dishes. read more

All my life living in SF and never tried Cypress Grill. Kiddo was in golf camp at Harding Park for the summer and, while waiting for him, decided to check this place out for lunch. Arrived at about noon on Friday and we're able to get a table without waiting. Most of the tables indoors were occupied and quite a few outside as well. Lunch menu consisted mainly of salads and sandwiches. I decided on a bowl of clam chowder ($10) to share with the hubs and the Cali BLT with a side of the Caesar ($18). Hubs ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken sandwich ($20). It's a bit on the pricier side, but the food was good. Could taste the lemon zest in the chowder which is different from other chowders I've had but it made the chowder taste light and fresh. The side salad was decently portioned with just the right amount of dressing, and I really liked the BLT that also has avocado. Perfect amount - not too full and just right. As we sat near the kitchen and could hear the orders being called out, it appears the Spicy fried chicken sandwich is a popular order. Hubs liked it and said the chicken was moist and good texture with the brioche bun. Fries were also crispy and hot. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal. Somehow we ended up out here. I had not been here since the Presidents Cup back in 2009. It is beautiful to view while having lunch. Wear your Panama, you can sit outside. My dad ordered the Fish Tacos ($18) which apparently a dish he always orders here and liked it. My stepmother ordered the Turkey Melt ($17) which comes with a fried onion ring in the middle for a textural contrast. She said, it was really good. Service was solid. Patrick, our friendly server was there when we needed him. Food service was prompt. Dining area is dated but you're here for the view! Make sure to get there early to snag a table with a view. I got there at 10:55 am on a Sunday and snagged the last table by the window. It's an older crowd so weekend brunch was very peaceful. I saw a lot of people walking their dogs and we confirmed with staff that the grounds are dog-friendly (except on the actual golf course). I've been taking my parents to this grill for over two years. It's become our weekend ritual to have breakfast/brunch at cypress grill. The waiters and waitresses are always so friendly and attentive, always making sure that our dining experience there is pleasant. They have fast service, a quiet and clean environment, and spacious tabling setup. I've tried just about everything on this menu and I can safely say my go to's are the 2 by 2 by 2 for breakfast or the corn beef hash plate paired with house coffee and the half sandwich and half soup for lunch. Being a golfer myself, dining here while watching golfers play the 18th hole of Harding Park is always a fun view! Definitely recommend sitting by the window if available upon arrival. read more

3.5 stars Came here with company on a beautiful and hot SF weekday and it was BUSY. You can find an older crowd here, one table was even playing a card game. The restaurant overlooks part of the golf course with big thick glass windows. While the views were gorgeous, I found myself getting pretty toasty when we first sat down at our table. For our appetizer, we ordered calamari which was disappointing. I almost sent it back because of the portion and the batter was off. They were presented like carnival food with a holder in the middle and the cocktail and aioli sauce on the sides. The calamari was served hot, right off the fryer but only filled half way! We had to lean forward and stretch our necks to find them. When I dunked the rings into the sauces, the batter slid completely off. I was a little worried our meals would also be disappointing. Thankfully it wasn't! The portions are big. I ordered the pastrami sandwich with a side of garlic fries. The pastrami were cut into thick slices with a crispy sear on them. The amount of sauerkraut was just right and the Swiss cheese was hot and bubbly. The marbled rye added a nice touch. Cypress Grill now re-opened. A secret that a lot of locals don't know is that there's a nice restaurant (4/4 stars here on Yelp, full bar too) at the Harding Park golf course, overlooking greens and the lake. It was closed during lockdown and re-opened with a limited menu, but expanded to a full lunch menu, open to the public (I don't golf, but I do eat), about a week ago (8/6/2021). The hours are limited, 11AM - 4PM (bar until 7PM), but the food is excellent and it's worth a visit if you're looking for a nice indoor or outdoor restaurant experience nearby. Mexican salad had at least a half cup of jalapeño peppers. I think the chef needs some input on his menu. Gee, who would think of coming to a clubhouse for a bite unless, of course, you're playing a round of golf in Harding Park with your buddies? Jamie W. and I came upon it accidentally last Saturday because we had never been to Lake Merced before and couldn't help but notice they actually serve food here, hot food even. This place takes me back to my childhood when my dad, an avid golfer in his day, made his family join the less-than-posh Riverside Country Club in Dallas. After he had us play nine holes, we had lunch in their big, sterile dining room with its panoramic view of the 18th green. Sure enough, that's exactly the setting of the Cypress Grill in the Harding Park Golf Clubhouse - a huge banquet room with a nice view of the 18th green. The food is pretty standard stuff but plentiful in portion and better prepared than you would expect from a public clubhouse. I started with a $6 bowl of their New England Clam Chowder, which wasn't half-bad with a zingy splash of Tabasco (see photo). Jamie W. couldn't help himself and ordered the $8 Fried Chicken Wings, which came in a bowl of six and with a couple of obligatory sauces (see photo). Nothing special there. He followed up his poultry intake with the $13 Cheddar Burger, which was actually a Juicy Lucy since the melted cheese was stuffed inside the Angus beef. It was a generous slab of meat replete with bacon, lettuce, tomato and onion, all of it housed in a toasted brioche bun and decorated with a big kosher spear on top (see photo). Quite hearty he said, especially with a side of steak fries. I ordered the $14 Jalapeno Cheese Steak, which was a grilled ribeye steak piled onto a toasted french roll with melted cheddar, jalapenos and crispy onion rings on top (see photo). Also quite heavy but the meat was pretty tender if a tad stringy. Adding insult to injury were the steak fries on my plate, tasty as they were, I couldn't finish them since the soup and sandwich really filled me up. I suppose at that point I was supposed to play a round of golf to burn off all those calories, but the best I could do was roll myself to the car to end our sojourn to Lake Merced that afternoon. I was always under the impression that you had to be a member at Harding Park if you wanted to eat at the clubhouse. Well...my assumption was wrong. Last weekend, we had breakfast here after walking around Lake Merced. The restaurant is spacious and the view would be awesome on a sunny day. The breakfast menu isn't very extensive, but the prices are reasonable. We ordered: Presidential Breakfast ($14) - It comes with two eggs any style, three buttermilk pancakes, potatoes, and your choice of apple wood smoked bacon, thick cut grilled ham, or sausage patties with your choice of bread. The buttermilk pancakes were cute and dainty. If you're hungry, this is a good option and there's a bit of everything. TPC Steak & Eggs ($14) - Grilled New York steak, two eggs any style and potatoes served with your choice of toast - The steak came out perfectly cooked and a good size. English Club ($10) - Choice of toasted English muffin or bagel with a fried egg, sausage, apple wood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, served with seasonal fruit - I ordered the English Club with English muffin. It reminded me of McD's egg mcmuffin, but with a lot more meat. Half way through my sandwich, the sausage patty got a bit too heavy for me. The bowl of seasonal fruit was multi-colored. It consisted of melons, berries, pineapple, and bananas. I liked that all the fruits were fresh and not canned. Fleming French Toast ($9) - Thick cut Texas toast bread dipped in eggs, cinnamon and vanilla topped with strawberries, bananas and toasted almonds - The French toast was plated nicely, which made it look appetizing. Orange Juice ($3) - The price is fair for the size they give you. Coffee ($3) - Free refills! Just hope you get a good server that refills your cup w/out you having to flag her down. Went in with my son to purchase some food and a drink and there was a Asian lady wearing a mask. She leans to a guy that works there so white guy and she whispered something and told him to sit us outside. There was plenty of room inside for me to sit it was a hot day, very rude. When I asked if I can just go get my drink and some food she kept insisting to sit outside, but she wouldn't tell me directly. I figured out she was just being racist. I turned around and decided not to buy anything never would I be going there again I will spread the word. I really wanted to like this place as its close, the views are awesome, the prices are very reasonable/ affordable, and the venue is very clean. First off we seemed to be snubbed by the Asian waitress. We weren't dressed all that nice but there is NO dress code for the place. Our waiter took quite awhile to acknowledge us as we had been sitting with our menus closed and waited for a bit. Mind you there were MANY empty tables so it's not as if they super busy. Our waters took quite a wait to appear at the table. The menu looks very promising. I should have stuck with a sandwich BUT I was hopeful. It's crab season after all, I went with the crab cakes. When it came to the table it already smelled off. Possibly the cream sauce on top? Not sure?! Then upon inspection and breaking into one of the cakes the actual meat looked to be over mixed with something. And lacked a fresh look to it. Upon first taste, YUCK! It tasted OLD. Either the breadcrumbs or crackers or binder they used was disgusting. Possibly rancid. Do NOT order the crab cakes. Mr had the steak frites and didn't complain. #2 had the individual 4 cheese pizza that she liked very much. #3 had the clam chowder that she complained tasted sweet. I really was hoping this would be a good experience as we could have lunch and dinner celebrations here, but I'll have to pass. Will we come again?! Most likely not. This place is conveniently located near SF Zoo and Ocean Beach if you happen to be in the area. The view you get from the main dining area is great (if you are lucky enough to seat next to the window). The food is decent but mediocre. Definitely not something to come back for... This is sad cause the views are still great. I ordered egg white veggie omelette and it was plaaaain. I doubt they even put salt in it. It had champions, spinach and eggs. I'm not a cook but would recommend to the chef to watch some of the YouTube tutorials. May be add a little bit of butter and bath the omelette in it before serving. It is relaxing to sit by the window while looking out at the grassy fields. I like the ambiance because there are always groups of elderly people here. Was interested in a place to eat as well a nice beautiful view of the golf course and do good service and the whole boot, tired of the Denny's Sizzlers and other pancake houses. The view was nice and also that there weren't a bunch of people standing around waiting to sit down, just us. So we began wait around to be seated when half the place was empty. Finally after being seated, the waiter came to take our order within 5 mins thinking we were ready. So we ordered and waited. I love ice tea and drank that tiny glass within a minute of touching the table, didn't realize how hard it was to refill that glass. I ended up having it refilled 4 times only, because service got slower and slower. It was one guy serving all of us. The food was nothing special, had better at pancake houses. But even when paying our bill, couldn't get a refill of tea. At least the view was nice. read more

First time here. We were seated on the patio which overlooks the lake and golf green. Initially, our table was in the shade and I asked if we could move the table to the sun...and, yes, I know the server was the only one working outside but it was such a beautiful day. Anyway, the server accommodated us immediately. My son and daughter helped him move the table and chairs. I hardly ever ask for this kind of thing but he was cool about it. We brought my granddog with us and he was super happy to sleep on the lawn near our table. My daughter had the Cesar. Son had the turkey chili. I had the chowder and half a tuna sammy. Husband had the BLT and garlic fries. Sort of a miracle! Everything was great. We hardly ever go out to lunch but I think this may become our regular haunt. Really pretty little set up on the patio.
