This morning I realized that I left my contact lens at home. So I needed to get emergency contact lens in the meantime. I reached out to Dr. Tran. I've been going here for years. Dr. Tran is really cool and their price is always fair and the service is always good. I recently took my aunt and cousins there who were visiting from out of state. They didn't have insurance and they were shocked on how inexpensive they were compared to the place they go to in Texas. I'm so thankful to have found Dr. Tran, by accident. I stepped on my glasses and broke the frames off completely on a Sunday night, I was yelping around for an off chance of a 24hr optometrist or one who opens late and his page came out of that filter. I called the number and even though he picked up the phone, Turns out it's off hour and Yelp placed the hours of operation incorrectly!! He was nice enough to still ask me about my glasses need and set up an appt. for a later day. He's a professional, polite though can come off unfriendly (which I don't mind since I hate superficial small talks at doctor's offices), he's efficient and quick to identify problems I felt I had over the years but since other optometrist didn't seem to share the same concern so I figure it was just me making up phantom symptoms. It felt so good to be understood. He also put prescription into my sunglasses and it's a game changer. Now I don't have to decide between protecting my eyes from excessive squinting from the sun or from the "blindness". Super happy for this accidental find!!! read more

Had a small emergency situation and Dr. Tran was there to the rescue! He let me walk in at 7:45am and examined my eye. He is super nice, professional, and very informative. I love the negative reviews here. Sounds like a lot of people like to spend hours in eye exams. There is nothing better to me than an Optometrist who gets to the point and does not waste my time. I am diabetic and he checks for any signs of eye problems every time I go in. My whole family sees Dr. Tran and my kids are all very happy going to him as well. He has never tried to "rip me off" and on the rare occasion when he recommended something that I did not want to pay for I simply said "no" and that was it. I'm down with coming here for eye exams but frankly buy frames elsewhere. To spendy. It is a nice small optometrist office located in in the same complex as Mothers Market. For eye exams it cannot be beat. I have never had to wait over 5 minutes from check in to starting the eye exam. After being put through the paces with the normal puff, click when you see the dot, etc machines you meet with the Dr. The thing is he really cares about your well being. I had high pressure which is a symptom of early age glaucoma and he pleaded that I get it looked at. At the time I didn't have insurance. He suggested what specialist to see and negotiation techniques to get the cost down. Normally I would have nodded and left without having a specialist take a closer look. Not this time. I followed up with his recommended specialist. Eyes check normal. Now being close to Newport Beach and in Irvine the frame prices here are top end retail. Hello everyone, In Summer 2015 I was in town for two months doing research at UCI, fresh in from U of New Mexico. And I couldn't see. Not the best for making observations (on neonatal mouse brains, no less). I had worn glasses before but did not have them with me. I decided to use my year's benefits to get my first-ever contact lens fitting. I had always thought that my astigmatism would be too bad for contacts to be practical. In a way I was right. These had to be special ordered, but Dr. Tran instantly knew where to order lenses in a prescription that online sites don't come within 10 feet of. But of course, the COST! Again I see Dr. Tran spring into action and a few days later, I got a call that my out of pocket cost for a 6-month supply had been negotiated to $0. This amount of care and dedication shown by a medical professional is nearly unheard-of. For all you who thought I only packed one anecdote, a couple months back I set up an appointment. Even staying 40 minutes away in Walnut, I knew there was only one optometrist I could trust. Was informed that, for whatever reason, my insurance wouldn't go through (ended up that premiums hadn't been paid due to policyholder having been incapacitated). This became clear to the staff well before I was called back and Dr. Tran simply said to call him once I spoke to the insurer. After a thorough exam (during which I was told about my keratoconus, attention to detail is real here) I leave with a trial pair that was the closest they had in stock to my prescription (I could actually see so that couldn't have been cheap). That and the year's supply he ordered, not to mention the exam, would be unthinkable without insurance. However, due to having the best optometrist ever, I still received the same stellar service and quality the plan normally should have paid for. I'll leave with this: as a medical student, I believe that the patient should always come first, no matter how much I stand to profit. Dr. Tran and his staff have shown me repeatedly that they subscribe wholeheartedly to this belief. I'm only leaving because my current student insurance only provides vision care at Roski Eye; you better believe that the next time I hold private insurance, I'll be on the freeway back to Irvine for an exam. Seriously, hands down the best optometrist I've ever seen. He's never cared about the money. Ever. I've been coming here for 3-4 years now and he will always make time for you. I've told him in the past that I didn't want to get an exam done and I just wanted a new pair of glasses to use my insurance benefit. His response was, "I won't charge you for the exam, don't worry about it, but just give me 5-10 minutes because I don't want you to use your insurance on a pair that may not be up to date with your vision." What do you know? My eye sight was worse and I did need different lenses. I tried giving money for my exam and he wouldn't take it. Dr. Tran told me that it's never been about the money and he just wants to make sure that his patients are getting the proper treatment. Came today because I wanted to do the same thing, get new glasses. Nexy? Lexy? (I'm sorry I forgot lol) but his front desk/assistant answered my questions and said there would be no issue obtaining new glasses without an exam. She mentioned the Dr. Tran was off for the day already. She went and grabbed my chart and came back out. She told me that since she saw that the last visit required new lenses (my eyesight got worse) that I should just get an exam done this week. She was super accommodating when I told her my insurance was up this month. As she's talking to me about scheduling an appointment this week since my insurance was ending, Dr. Tran walked in and asked if I had 10 minutes today so we could just get everything done already. Unfortunately, since I work on a computer all day every day my eye sight got worse lol so again, I needed to update my lenses. His assistant helped me go through every case, like five times each, to figure out which pair I actually wanted. She was super patient and nice and helped me with all of my questions. As we're calculating how much my total would be with prescription sunglasses, a new frame and updating my two old frames I mentioned to her that I quit my job to travel and I didn't know if I reaaaaally wanted to spend a ton of money on glasses. She instantly responded, "you quit to travel?! Regina. You don't NEED new frames, just update your two old ones since it's cheaper and if you REEEEALLLY want the sunglasses get those. But you don't NEED all of this! GO TRAVEL INSTEAD!!" So that's what I did, got my Gucci sunglasses, updated my two older frames and saved more money. PLUS got an additional percentage off as well. I read the prior reviews about how the staff is rude and all they care about is money, but I don't see it. They've never once shown me that side. I've always left here happy and beyond satisfied. Horrible experience, staff is very unfriendly. I called and they told me they see kids, we took my 3 year old son in and at first the doctor said they usually only see kids that will sit calmly (really?) My son is one of the calmest kids you will meet. He basically just ran my insurance then did nothing. I'm going to make sure my insurance hears about the scam they are running. The optometrist doesn't seem to have the warmest personality. He came off a bit condescending, but I think that's just how he communicates. For example, during my eye exam, he said "Is there something you're not telling me? Because, by looking at your eye, I see signs of cholesterol, and I'm never wrong." After the visit, he said that "the secretaries" would help me find a pair of glasses. I've never heard of optical technicians/staff referred to as "secretaries" before. But, to each, their own, I guess. More importantly, I never received a copy of my prescription. I had to call the office and request it be faxed to me. The prices were rather high, which is expected of independent shops, as opposed to Costco. I only went here because my employer, at the time, provided vision insurance accepted by this place. If there were negetive stars, believe me this place would get a bunch of negative stars from me. Very unsatisfied disgruntled customer. I really did have high hopes for this office. After all, my friend referred me and highly recommended it. I guess she was one of the few lucky patients of Dr Tran. She said that they had a big selection in frames and the doctor was very friendly. Ha maybe he's super friendly at first because he's ripping you off!! Both me and my friend Blake went here. HUGE mistake! I not only regret going myself but I regret referring him as well. I feel awful for it. So let's tell you about the visit. He was late to my scheduled appointment as he was with another patient. Understandable but a bit annoying. He seemed rushed and rude. I got a contacts exam as well and he was getting inpatient that I couldn't put them in right away. He said I needed a new prescription for glasses as mine were old and my eyes have gotten worse. When I was done, I picked out a pair of frames and it seemed that he was charging me for every little thing. A week later I go to pick up my frames. I tried them on and they seemed ok. I take them into work the next day and I'm as blind as a bat! I can't read anything on my computer screen with my new glasses. I call up Dr. Tran and he tells me to make an appointment to come back in. When I go in he seemed upset. We come to the conclusion I need distance and reading glasses. I told him in the first place I use my glasses all the time and especially at work or driving. He said I needed transition lenses or just have two separate pairs. Okay, but I came in for reading glasses. He refused to fix them. Said he already billed my insurance and it couldn't be done for free that I would have to pay full price. So now I am stuck with my old pair of glasses and my new pair I rarely wear. To top it off my insurance only covers new frames every two years. This doctor is unbelievable and screwed me over. As for my friend, he was overcharged and didn't really need glasses. I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS OPTOMETRIST AGAIN!!!! DR. TRAN IS A JOKE! I can't believe he hasn't been sued yet! You know that urge that you get to try a place even though there are horrible reviews hoping that it will be different with you?? Well yea this is not going to be one of those places guaranteed! Hostile and arrogant optometrist, very bad attitude regarding children (but the assistant was nice). The doctor had a very strange, hostile attitude, and didn't seem to have any interest in the patient's opinions or preferences. He was extremely impatient with my 13-year-old daughter who was trying on contacts for the first time ever, telling her she couldn't do it after literally about 5 seconds of trying to put contacts in her eyes (she was involuntarily shutting her eyes, as it was her first time). Very negative, almost mean to my daughter with some of his comments. I expected quite a bit more patience from an optometrist regarding a 13-year-old who is attempting to wear contacts for the first time ever. I even heard him loudly complaining about us to the assistant in the other room when he stepped out. Very unprofessional. Maybe the other two reviewers got him on a good day? Regardless, there's no excuse for the treatment we got today. Contrast this with the extremely patient and kind treatment I got from my optometrist when trying contacts for the first time as a youngster - truly night and day. I would not recommend this place. I was initially impressed by the higher end look of the place but the Dr speaks WAY too fast, wants to rush you out, and is very opinionated on brands etc. They also messed up my contact order. I mentioned this place to a friend and believe it or not had similar results where they messed up his glasses and had to go back there a bunch of times for them to get what he ordered right. I recently purchased frames here and had a prescription filled. He does have a huge inventory but that doesn't really matter if they aren't done right. Dr. Tran took the liberty to alter the prescription (why?) and the glasses did not work. He admitted to changing the prescription and said he does it all the time. When they didn't work, he would not correct them...and he was so rude! He tried to intimidate me out of his store...so I would leave and not demand they be fixed. Suddenly he did not have a return policy...and when the insurance company contacted him about the incorrect fill, he tore her head off saying he was sick of the competition! I've been going to Park Place Optometry for over 5 years. I live in Huntington Beach and I drive all the way out there for a reason. The first time I went there, my work did not offer insurance for eye care and I was referred by a friend. I told Dr. Tran I didn't have insurance and I didn't have a lot of money. I never wore glasses before and I always had perfect vision up to that point. Well, for my first glasses, I wanted something cool looking and "Name Brand". I read the other reviews and my experience was nothing like that. I don't see Dr. Tran as a "salesman" at all. He was actually the opposite. He downsold me and talked me into getting a less expensive name brand and even gave me a huge discount to help me out because I didn't have insurance. His reason was, my eyesight wasn't that bad and I only needed to wear them on occasions when driving, reading, movies, etc. "Why buy expensive glasses for such seldom use?", he said. And when I asked to buy contacts in cases of a hot date, he gave me free samples and told me to use these first and if I truly feel I still need them, come back. I've been going back to Park Place ever since. My four eyes have since got married and I take my wife and stepdaughter there and they absolutely love Dr. Tran. I've also referred my whole family and many friends and have not received anything but good praises. I definitely recommend Park Place Optometry. read more

I really don't know why I keep coming here. Too much hope for the next visit? My first visit was probably around 2 years ago when I used to work at Mother's Market. Fellow coworkers recommended it because we got a nice little discount. 2 years later.. I am still a regular client. Why. After all of the numerous eye exams that Dr. Tran has given me, each one is exactly like the previous; short and insignificant. I was honestly in the eye exam room for 2 minutes. As a college student, I do not really have a lot of money to be getting new lenses/glasses whenever I feel.. and after wearing glasses for pretty much my whole life.. they are VERY important to me. Dr. Tran embodies everything that is broken in the medical system. He tries to bully customers and patients into expensive purchases and alters prescriptions without any medical justification. In addition, when I requested him to send my prescription to another optometrist he refused and told me I have to purchase glasses from him. I will never go back. His attitude is unpleasant and so all readers are aware he is an optometrist not ophthalmologist and unable to diagnose the conditions he does, as he never went to medical school. I first saw Dr. Tran in Jan. 2015. I had a painful ulcer on my eye from wearing old contacts (didn't even know it was possible) he was extremely informative and direct with me on how dangerous it is to wear old contacts (even if you take them out at night) obviously I couldn't wear contacts until my eye was completely healed but I didn't own a pair of glasses, Dr. Tran had me pick out glasses of my choice and had them ready for me within 30 minutes. Thankfully, my eye healed and I am able to wear contacts again! Just saw Dr. Tran again because the screws came out of an arm on my glasses and since it would take 3 weeks to order the screws he had me pick out another pair that will be ready today!! Yes he is a fast talker and mover but he will slow down for you if he sees a concern! However, I love how fast and efficient he moves! Do not waste your time. Found him through VSP, had a 5:00 pm appointment and was seen at 5:30. He took a total of 7 min in his office with me for a new contact prescription. That exam should take more like an hour. Of course the prescription was wrong. The girls in the office seemed as though they hated their job and I don't blame them. Dr. Tran is extremely passionate about his patients and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Park Place Optometry. Usually other offices treat you as just another client, but Dr. Tran takes the time to ensure that you are taken care of. It was my first time here as a walk-in and Dr. Tran and his assistants were so accommodating. They were able to squeeze me into their heavily booked schedule. Dr. Tran was concerned about me driving without my glasses for a couple of days and even made me a complimentary pair for time being since my glasses wouldn't be ready on time. Go here! I just went here to get my glasses. They have the largest collection of glasses of different brands that you can ever find in a doctor's office. The doctor was very nice and offered me a free eye exam even though I could get my exam result from my previous doctor ( Btw, my previous doctor in Optometric Eyecare Center of OC wants to charge me $40 just for the copy of my exam!!! Hello? I did pay for the exam and now have to pay to get a copy of the result? That's ridiculous !!!). Anyway, by re-examining my eyes, Dr. Billy Tran in Park Place Optometry shows that he wants to take responsibility for his service and is determined to do the best for his patient. His staff asked me to show them my old pair of glasses and Dr. Tran said it was still good (not try to sell me a new pair :-) !!! ). So I decided to get short-sighted sun glasses. I thought I could not find nice-looking sun glasses in a doctor's office but it turned out that I got myself a very nice Marc Jacobs. He also gave me very good advice on how to protect my eyes. My wife and I have been long time patients of Dr. Tran and until recently, have been very satisfied. I am not sure if there has been a lot of turnover with his office staff recently or what, but they have forgotten all about customer service. Dr. Tran's office staff has become rude and abrupt and they didn't used to be. Recently, I had run myself out of contact lenses and was trying to purchase a box of lenses until I could come in and get an eye exam. The staff told me this was not possible until I came in for a yearly exam. I asked for my perscription and they refused to give it to me. I finally got Dr. Tran on the phone and he was just as rude as his staff. He just lost two long time customers!! read more
