I searched on Yelp and came across Parkside 23. It sounded perfect. When we pulled into the parking lot, it was very crowded. I called in to the restaurant to make sure they'd have room for us, and was told that yes, they had just had a cancellation for a table for two, so come on in. We did, and we were seated almost immediately. From the minute we walked in the restaurant, everything was perfect. Hostess Heidi was lovely, our server Sara was amazing, and the food was incredible. My friend had the meatloaf, and crème brûlée for dessert. She said both were great. She's not a drinker, but did have a couple Shirley Temples, which were perfect. I have the pretzel crusted veal with spaetzel. I asked for them to hold the asparagus, which is usually cut up in the spaetzel along with mushrooms and onions, and they did it perfectly. The veal was especially amazing, and the spaetzel was very good, too. I tried the Mr Manhattan, and had another one as my dessert. I'm always delighted when my usual craft cocktail is one of their classics on the menu. It was well-made, if a bit small for the price point. We've already decided that this will be our go-to place for lunch whenever I travel up from Chicago to visit my friend. I'm also making plans to bring my husband up there sometime, because I think he will love it, too. A great find!

And now I understand why. The atmosphere is fantastic in the main dining room, which is where we were seated. It wasn't overly loud. The cocktail list is extensive, and they were delicious. The jambalaya was spicy and fantastic. I had the pasta with vegetables and it was fantastic as well. The cream corn appetizer was out of this world. I didn't know cream corn could be so amazing. Service was wonderful. As was the brownie they brought me for my birthday with candles. Top-notch service amazing food. We will definitely be back again. And I can't wait. Ambiance is still nice and is your classic Wisconsin sports bar type establishment. I'm used to the old days though when this place was packed and you had to yell to hear each other. I explained I had done some research and learned that a service charge is legal when using a CREDIT card, but is NOT when using a DEBIT card.
