Not new, but new to Houston...these are not donuts, and this is not a small artisan spot. You read that right, they're a decorated cronutesque dessert, called a layered donut, and this is a franchise. Layered, flaky, not overly sweet (although the frosting can be super sweet- burbon caramel flavor, I'm talking to you) , these little bad boys are certainly an experience. Of the 6 I tried: Strawberry shortcake- was the most balanced Burbon caramel- was the sweetest Churro and Lemon bar/sicle/ade- were fine Turtle (they were out of turtle cheesecake)- I'd prob get the turtle cheesecake instead. Campfire- I personally prefer the sponginess of a traditional donut for this flavor combo. Based on the service I received, which was pretty poor (I was not acknowledged for atleast 5 minutes. Once acknowledged I was not made to feel welcome...but maybe it was a bad day), I'd say 3 stars...likely won't be returning, but in sharing the 6 donuts I purchased, 3/4 folks loved them, so I'd likely return with them. Such a cute place and ambience!! I came here with my friend for a lil Bible study and definitely made it one of our best ones yet. The service was amicable and the baristas were super friendly and genuinely seemed they enjoyed their job. So. Much. Options. To choose from. I eventually went with their Maple Bacon donut (trying to upp my protein, duh! lol) and my friend tasted their honey one. Both outstanding! I especially loved the inside gooey part of mineeee. My friend is typically not a super sweets person but she finished hers because it was just THAT darn gooood. Parlor Doughnuts made it into the Houston scene almost a year ago and in usual Justin fashion, I let the hype die down and came and checked it out recently. We left breakfast nearby still kind of hungry and decided to get something sweet to take home. Parlor Doughnuts is in a shopping strip with other businesses. Be careful where you park because some spots are specific to certain businesses. I like the look of the place with tile all over the place. The space itself is large, but the restaurant work space takes up most of the main dining room, along with a kitchen in the back. Seating is limited, so be ready to pounce on a seat when they open up. Customer service was cool, not much interaction with the friendly folks behind the counter. Service was slow from the time of ordering to the time to get what we ordered. I found that kind of odd considering the cases were full of donuts. They do make small batches throughout the day. You are not getting your typical yeast or cake donuts here. What you get here is layered donuts. It's different. The debate is if it's a cronut or not. I've had cronuts and I would say the consistency of the donuts are pretty similar. I think they were a little more airy to me than a cronut. There were so many good looking donuts to choose from. They have their mainstays, but they also have seasonal items. The ones that caught my attention immediately was the Sandy Beach and Cookies 'n' Cream. The Sandy Beach had "tastes like a cinnamon roll" under the name and I knew that was the one for me. I'm a sucker for a cinnamon roll and to get it in donut form seemed like a great idea. This donut was absolutely delicious. The donuts are huge. Upon first bite you get a slightly crisp exterior but inside it's super light and airy. I can see the cinnamon roll flavor comparison to be accurate. I wish it had just a tad bit more of a cinnamon punch to it. The Cookies 'n' Cream was tasty too. I like that both donuts weren't overly sweet. It paired well with my iced vanilla latte that I got. Parlor is definitely up there as one of the better donut options in the city. Really delicious - happy to have them in the neighborhood! I really enjoyed their variety of flavors and will certainly have something new to try with their rotating seasonal options. The donuts are fritter-like in texture and consistency and big to boot! Easily shareable, but I don't blame you if you keep one (or more!) all to yourself. Outstanding selection of coffee drinks as well. I got their sprinkle (it had a cuter name that I cannot remember currently) and an assortment of others like honey, cinnamon, strawberry, and all were excellent and things I would get again. Easiest 5 star I've handed out in a while. If you're a fan of the cronut style donut this is an absolute winner!! BIG layered croissant style donuts with plenty of chocolatey or fruity style toppings to pick from. My favorite was the raspberry pistachio, since the tartness helped cut through the sweetness of the heavy donuts I was trying. From the look of the menu, vegan/keto and other donuts are a available to customize if you choose to. Coffees are available to order as well, with some standard coffee flavors on menu. Love the throwback look of the early 1900's American Parlor room. Nice antiques furniture pieces scattered around, and the speaker for the music is in an old radio. I really don't like donuts but I could possibly get addicted to these! I stopped in on a weekday afternoon. It wasn't crowded and there were still a few varied flavors left. The decor is a clean, rustic aesthetic which white subway tile and wood throughout. I decided to try two, the French toast which was labeled as a favorite, and the raspberry pistachio. I ate the latter first and the French toast the next day. The layered donuts remind me of a brioche more than a croissant. Light and fluffy with a buttery flavor. The raspberry glaze wasn't too sweet and the crushed pistachio complemented it well. The French toast the next day was great for breakfast and definitely sweeter. I can't remember everything that we ordered but we tried the raspberry pistachio, bourbon caramel, churro, turtle cheesecake, cafe sua da, and a couple others. Really enjoyed my first time trying Parlor Doughnuts! Came in on a Sunday around 11am and it was very crowded (not to an unpleasant extent though) and the line was to the back of the store. The parking area is decent, although some spots are reserved for specific shops. Upon entering the donut shop, the display case showcased a variety of donuts. My partner and I went here for a coffee date. It was mid-morning, and the place was not packed at all. The place is super cute on the inside with a few tables and chairs for you to sit. I sat and worked while we waited for our coffee and food. The service was fantastic, it was our 1st time there and there were so many options that looked delicious. We ended up getting an iced white chocolate blondie and it was sooo good! I had one with oat milk and no whipped cream and my partner had it as is and both were delicious. The star of the show though for me was the turtle doughnut. My goodness. The crunch with the butteriness of the crook was so perfect. They have lots of flavors to choose from, including a few seasonal. They also have vegan and "keto friendly" options (not really sure what that means in terms of sweetener exactly, you'd have to ask). I think my favorites were the honey lavender (seasonal), raspberry pistachio, and the dreamsicle (orange). I brought a dozen to a party and they were a huge hit. TLDR: Amazing Doughnuts, Mid Coffee, beware of dozens and persistent lack of flavors. I discovered Parlor Doughnuts about 2 month ago and have been back several times because they truly have amazing donuts and I have been trying to try all the flavors. However, I would note that during both weekends and weekdays they seem to be out of and running low on many flavors. Today, I ordered a fan favorites half dozen online and did not receive 4 out of the 6 flavors that were advertised, they also gave me 2 of the same flavor. There was no mention of this at the time of pickup in store, so beware that if they are out, they will just give you random flavors that you did not order, nor will they consult you about what substitutions you may or may not like, be allergic to, etc. In my multiple trips, I have found that during the weekday mornings they are significantly less busy than the weekends, so I haven't had to wait many times or for too long, and enjoy it for a quick breakfast grab. On weekends you can wait for about 15 minutes before getting to the counter. Additionally, I found their coffee to be okay. Certainly drinkable and when I go, I typically grab an iced latte so I can have my morning caffeine, but I wouldn't rave about it or go just for that. The donuts are definitely the star here. The staff has ranged from kind and patient to seemingly judgmental and inpatient when I had a question, etc. Like any restaurant, you will have differences in personnel, and overall I feel that i have had a good experience, but felt I should note it so if someone in mgmt reads this, they can try to make an improvement here. I would appreciate a bit more communication on how long my order would take, I didn't expect 15+ minutes for hot food service. My boyfriend and I stopped in for breakfast before heading out for a road trip. I have gluten sensitivity, so when I saw their gluten-free options on Yelp my interest was peaked. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and the staff were super friendly and helped us get acquainted with the menu. We each ordered a couple doughnuts and made our savory selections: a breakfast sandwich for me and chorizo breakfast tacos for my man. I also got a vanilla latte, which I sipped while we waited for my gf doughnuts to be assembled. Once our food was ready we got back in the car and hit the road. We were quietly greeted by the girl in the front. There was a large variety of flavors to choose from, though most seemed to be variations of each other. I chose the honey glazed flavor because it looked the most tempting as it was covered with sugar, dipped in glaze and drizzled with honey. The donut had a thin crispy shell with fluffy and thick yeasty layers. Surprisingly, I didn't feel weighed down by eating it. If the front parking fills up with quick, there's plenty of parking on the side of the building. One of the guys let me have the donut in the front of the tray, which was nice. My usually breakfast spot wasn't open and I was on a time constraint so I decided to stop by. Had high hopes based on the reviews. Really great renovation on the taco restaurant that was there. The display case filled with sweet temptations was amazing. I know this is a doughnut spot, but I didn't want a diabetes breakfast. Went with the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on sourdough. Not great. Their coffee machine was down, but they could do cappuccino or americano. Not sure how the regular coffee was down with those options, but ordered a cappuccino. It was just a few degrees above room temperature. Decent flavor, just not even close to hot. I'll give it another shot if I'm wanting a donut, but otherwise note sure if I'm going back. read more
