I think they changed something. Something's different. And I can feel it in my taste buds. My sandwich had pieces of burnt meat and chunks of dry meat. The onions were drenched in oil and didn't have the sweetness that it once had. Prices are all increased by at least a dollar but now they accommodate credit cards. Sandwiches are still good, I wouldn't write them off yet. But I think I found something better. Order the side order of scallops with red sauce (not the full entree) it's cheaper, and it's pretty much a full meal - all for $8. 3/5 bring the old flavors back... and I'll come along for the ride. read more

Holy Moly! This place produces masterpieces on crusty rolls! Marinated meats (or tofu) + carmelized onions + secret recipe herbed mayo = the best sandwich in Seattle. Call ahead during busy times... like lunch... or really all day... every day! This place is ALWAYS busy. (You'd be busy too if you served food this good.) Don't forget to bring cash - they don't take cards. Don't expect star treament from the guys running the place, though. They're busy! Just love 'em how they are. Normally about once or twice a month I have the biggest craving for these sandwiches - I think they lace them with crack! My brother (midnight cuban), his girl friend (#1), and I (#2) each had sandwiches. Actually, my bro's g-friend and I couldn't tell if we had the right sandwich. Either way my sandwich was YUMMMMMMMMMM..."can I squeeze in an Mmmmm"...MMMMYYYY!!! ;) We were all happy with our sandwiches. Oh, just thought I'd mention---we didn't end up eating our sandwiches out on the street and then laying in the gutter in yumminess. I absolutely had to check this place out after seeing it on TV and reading all of the reviews. And I must say, it lived up to the hype. My fiance and I waited for 17 minutes in line and another 23 minutes to get our food, but when I took my first bite of that hot, juicy and messy Midnight Cuban Press I instantly knew this sandwich was well worth the wait (and the price). It was obvious that the pork had been marinating for days. It was flavorful, tender and absolutely delish. I wanted to lick the paper my sandwich was wrapped in for the left over juices. The grilled onions were thick cut and falling out as I took each bite, but I took at fork and ate everything that fell out by itself. Mmmm. So good. It's not often you find sandwiches that contain huge flavor in each and every single layer, but this does and it works! The rice and beans were also super tasty. This place leaves your hands/arms/face an amazing mess! Ordered the #2 and #8, which are similar. The meat is soft and flavorful, with the perfect amount of mayo on the bread. I actually liked the baguette the most! It was bubbly and crunchy on the outside, but soft and chewy on the inside. Maybe the bread is the real star for me here! Words can't truly describe it, but some come close: "heavenly" and "blissful" come to mind, in lieu of the oft overused "delicious". Long long line and worth all the wait! It is a tiny little spot, so don't be the rude customers that send your party to grab a seat while you're standing in line. Let the people who got there first have there chance at a seat to eat. Anywho, this was our first stop in Seattle and it was a fantastic start to our food vacation! I ordered the the paseo press and loved every single moment of my eating experience! It was warned on the menu that this item "took longer" to make, but the wait wasn't bad. The bread was pressed and not hard to bite through, the roasted pork just melted in your mouth, and the carmalized onion were thick cuts of onions with so much flavor it just elevated my sandwich experience. And I have to say, I DO NOT like onions. I almost always pick them off of everything if I see them, but I just had to keep in with his sandwich ingredient friends. I'm obsessed with the Caribbean pork sandwiches but I wish I wasn't. The staff here is a major bummer. They get my order wrong frequently (they forgot my corn tonight!), close early and one time for a phone order they put me on hold and left me there, so I'd get the busy signal when I called back! The staff are nice enough, but that's totally careless. The one good staffer who didn't blow my order was clearly miserable working there. Maybe they need a raise to so they can take pride in their work? Either way, get your shtuff together, Paseos. Marinated Pork, Hot caramelized onions.... Oh so good, Can't stop.... What a great find! We went on a Saturday afternoon and in the hour or so that we were there, the line of people grew from 20, to 30, to 40, and maybe more. As we got closer, the wonderful smoky barbecue smell overtook my senses. I went for item #2 (listed on their sandwich board as everyone's favorite) while my friend ordered a #8, a pressed sandwich. Despite the long lineups, we waited no more than about 5 minutes to get our food. And once we did, it was heaven in our mouths... and fingers... and try....and wrists - as the juices ran down our hands. If you are at all neurotic about cleanliness while eating, fuhget about it. Holy Crap! We split a Caribbean Roast sandwich. Really, the best thing I have eaten in Seattle, so far. The pork and grilled onions are delicious on their own, but the complete bite (warm, crunchy and chewy roll, delicious pan drippings, tender flavorful pork, grilled onions, grilled jalapeño slices and fresh cilantro) is the way to do it. It's actually too good. I need a memory wipe or I'll be moving to Seattle and coming to Paseo everyday. Notes: Call in your order. The line can get long, but it moves pretty quickly. Cannot...get...enough...caribbean...roast. CASH only. Can I just say that I believe I have found the most incredible Paseo Hack? Came when they had run out of sandwiches (literally thought my life was over). Decided to stick with the line. Got side caribbean roast with rice, side grilled onions, asked if they would smear some of that garlic AIOLI (not to be confused with their garlic tapenade which is a secret recipe that they won't hand out and you'll hold up the line and people behind you will hate you for making some weird special request....not that I'm speaking from personal experience...) on the meat...all for $6-7, less than a sandwich. When it came out, it came with so much of that tender juicy meat that everyone knows and loves...even more meat than the entree. I guesstimate that it was probably enough ingredients to make 2 sandwiches, if you buy a few baguettes. Anyways, mind...blown. Originally I was just trying to get a small dinner and it ended up being enough for two people. Could have possibly been it was the end of the day and they were trying to get rid of food. Does this place need any more reviews? Yes, it does. Even if you've had cuban sandwiches before (like me), Paseo's doesn't even come close to them. Line is long (sometimes up to an hour and a half on weekends, but worth the wait). If it's your first bite, you gotta get a sandwich, and make sure it's the #1 (the original) or #2 (most popular). Be ready to pop some mints afterwards. Don't expect to get a table - there are like 5 tables in this joint. If you don't like garlic/onions, you just might after a bite into a Paseo sandwich. I've eaten here numerous times in the past but have never gotten around to writing a review. So here it is. Normally I get the Caribbean Roast Sandwich only. I've tried a few entrees but the sandwiches are the signature of this fantastic place. The Caribbean Roast pork sandwich is pretty damn good. But what won me over was the caramelized onions. I love that it wasn't small chopped onions. It was beautiful petals of caramelized goodness. Also off topic but I read a few comments about how the presentation of this sloppy sandwich affects their decision of trying this place. To those who think this sandwich should be tidy and neat, Paseos is not Canlis. It's a sandwich shop. Try it or STFU. The day I went there, huge lines as usual. I called in my order beforehand so I got to skip through the lines. Right when I picked up my order, the man at the front announced that there was only enough for one more sandwich, which was music to my ears. As I walked away with 6 sandwiches, I could hear the jealous people in line call me MF and all types of names because I "took" the rest of the sandwiches. Paseo is synonomous with jerk seasoning. There is no substitute. Really, if you value your tongue, please treat it to a pork sandwich from this fine little hole in the Fremont wall. Do not be tempted to eat at the over rated, over priced Italian house across the street. And remember. Don't wipe your hands with a napkin. Each drop that rolls down your forearm should be offered to a friend, or even better, a complete stranger for whom these flavors are new nectars. My girlfriend thought I was just hungry from a long flight from San Diego, but really...the Carribean bowl was on point!! The chicken was so tender...and everything just blended so well together. The chips, rice, chicken, sour cream, jalapenos, cheese, sauce....OMG. So good! its a huge bowl and couldnt finish the whole thing...but I really like it. Had half of the Midnight Cuban. Damn! I wish i tasted it while it was still hot!!! Sooo good. The sudden closing of Paseo a year ago was a sad day for many west of the 520-bridge in Seattle. Reportedly workers and patrons alike arrived at the shop that day to find the door locked with a sign saying it had closed down. Ouch! Thankfully, Paseo reopened a few months later, under new ownership, but with the same, delicious menu. From the sandwiches to the entree plates, all options are very good. Our favorite auxiliary items include their amazing salad with pickled beets and their homemade red sauce (simmered with several meat opts, including chicken, fish, and also tofu). The thick, grilled onions layered on the sandwiches are awesome as well. The only down side to Paseo these days is that the menu prices are now $2-3 higher per item than they used to be. So while the food continues to be fantastic and well-portioned, the high prices do make visits less frequent. Plus side, they do conveniently accept credit/debit cards now. For cuban food in the Seattle area, Paseo is definitely THE spot and a must-try. read more

Hands down to best pork sandwich I have EVER had and, well - I've eaten a LOT of pork sandwiches. The aroma of the perfectly put together sandwich is enough to send you into complete euphoria...and take a bite and forget it. HEAVEN. Pork heaven paired with perfectly caramelized onions, jalapenos drenched in a garlic aioli, crisp romaine and a crisp-yet-soft-yet-buttery-yet-salty baguette to hold it all together for my personal devour. The only issue I had was that it got a little messy towards the end of the hooverization. But really, flavor is all that really matters in the end so I stick to my 5 star rting. I'll take a few drips of pork heaven on my shirt for the whole day, a juicy smear across my face as a delicious reminder, hands slathered with aioli and jalapeno spiciness. All I ask is that this pork sandwich continues to fill my belly at least once a month (OK sometimes more--I'm not ashamed). I love you Paseo. Oh how I love you. read more

Went here for the first time based on the raves I've read about this place. Lived up to the hype. Really good little "hole in the wall" place. Got the classic pork sandwich, and it was delicious. Messy, but delicious. Pass on the side of corn, because (A) you'll be too full to eat it, and (B) it's not that good. But the sandwiches - nice. Though, I wouldn't recommend eating the pork sandwich earlier in the day if you have plans later that evening. Especially if you have a date or something. It could give you a case of the poopies. I know a lot of people are complaining about the line but we called beforehand to order them and then just picked them up after. What I like most about the sandwich was that they fried the bun. The reviews don't lie, this place is as good as everyone says it is. Since I live in Seattle I frequent probably more than I should so I have had the privilege of tasting more of their menu. I used to be all about the sandwiches which are served with these giant caramelized onions but they are just a beautiful, delicious mess. World's best sandwich is also the world's messiest one so be prepared to get down and dirty! As of lately I have been all about their plates--the salad that comes with has pickled beets and cabbage which is a really unique, fresh bite. The black beans are to die for--worth getting a side of those even if you order a sandwich. I'm a person who loves adding spice and condiments to jazz up dishes and this food is so flavorful you don't need anything other than what they give you. If you are just in town visiting I would recommend getting a sandwich and a plate to share if you can, that way you get the variety. read more

Paseo was crowded and there weren't any seats left so I had to get my sandwich to go. I followed many of the suggestions here and went with the Midnight Cuban. After reading all of the reviews, I was eager to try my first bite. I stepped just outside and hopped into my car. I carefully laid out the plastic bag on my lap to minimize staining, and unwrapped my prize. I eyed it hungrily before moving in for the first bite. Damn it smelled good. I went in awkwardly like a teenage boy moving in for his first kiss. Damn. I missed most of the good stuff on my first bite and got a mouth full of bread. Swing and a miss. The second time around I had learned my lesson. I took all of the knowledge I have acquired in my training as an engineer. Vectors, trajectories, and the like flew through my head as I calculated the perfect angle of attack. With the solution in clear sight I went in for a second pass. Success. And god was it sweet. I basked in the glory of the perfect bite of sandwich. Absolutely delicious. Before I knew it, my Cuban was gone, and I was seriously considering going back inside for a second sandwich. The line for this place is super long, which is only a miniscule indication of how amazingly delicious and mouthwatering the sandwiches are. I've been to both Fremont and Ballard locations, and my all-time favorite sandwich is the Caribbean Roast (#2 I believe) which is their signature sandwich. I order it without jalapenos and cilantro. The caramelized onions and fall-apart pork and amazing baguette... I can almost taste the sandwich in my mouth. Quick Lunch? Not exactly, but the wait is worth it. If you got some time, have a friend with out, it's well worth it. This place is hard to see, easily missed, its basically a little shack in the middle of a neighborhood of homes. I was a bit hesitant to wait all this time especially on a thursday afternoon for lunch, although I did go during prime lunch hour. Parking was easier than I thought, I was thinking I won't be able to find street parking, or I had to park far and walk. There are plenty of parking on the street, best part most are all free. So I got in line, there was probably a good twenty people in front of me. I waited.... 50 mins later I got to the counter ordered a Caribbean roast, on the menu board says "most popular", paid with cash (it's a cash only place). Waited another 10-15 mins for my sandwich, a plus they do have plastic cups that you can drink water while waiting. The place is rather small, therefore everyone had to wait outside, only had a few tables. Most people did take out. The sandwich, wow, yum, juicy, moist, flavorful. They say it's a messy sandwich, they were not wrong. One of the messiest sandwiches I've ever eaten, I had the meat and onions falling out of the bottom. It had pork with its juices, large cuts of caramelized onions, lettuce, and peppers. The bread was soft, not hard. I ate the whole sandwich and I don't regret it. Best part was the price, for about $10 for a good size sandwich that kept me full past dinner. If you have time, I recommend going here, it's worth the wait. read more
