The quality of the food is solid and consistent. Their dinner buffet has enough variety for vegetarians and non vegetarians. While not every dish is spectacular, a lot of them are above average and that's enough for a buffet. I like their butter chicken and palak paneer. Their bhature are pretty decent too. I have ordered via DoorDash from this restaurant restaurant and it took the restaurant 55 mins and DoorDash still shows preparing the order. After trying to call them 6-7 times in 1 hour, every time it goes to voicemail and finally they pick up the phone and leave it open with out saying even hello. I know...a lot of back-and-forth reviews here. We really do love this restaurant, but want it to have more consistency in its buffet dishes (bearing in mind that some of the fun of a buffet is having new things to try). BUT, we are definitely disappointed when we drive down to the peninsula and our favorite dishes are not out. What happened to the sweet-and-sour gobi, the usual 1 or 2 paneer dishes, and the chicken rolls? From what we see when they have these, they are very popular and fly off the table, so why not have them consistently? There are still MANY good dishes (pakora, masala dosa, and various curries) and Passage to India far outranks most Indian restaurants, especially other buffets. They have a HUGE variety, making it a great value. We will continue to visit, but hope to have even more reasons to! read more

This is one of my favorite buffet Indian food places in the Bay Area. Mostly because of the sheer variety of food they have. Their bhatoora is so thick and delicious. They have a soup of the day as well, and desserts are included as part of the buffet. It's affordable, there's always seating as well as parking, and naan promptly to your table. read more

Very disappointed with my visit today. It has always been overpriced, but in the past it was good tasty Indian food. Today's food was quite horrible. In some sabji's they forgot to add masala, the salt content wasn't right in other sabji's, and you could taste the "maida" in the julab-jamuns. Total fail for a Sunday Indian lunch. read more

Went there for new years lunch buffet. The choice of dishes were extensive, but every single item tasted yuck and stale. For $20 a pop for this "special" buffet, expected the food to be half decent at least. Tonight we did takeout from Passage to India. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes so I arrived in 20. I waited another 20 minutes only to find that they were out of part of our order--Chicken Tikka Kebab. It would take 15-20 minutes more to prepare it. A couple of minutes later, the waiter came out with some sort of mixture that they were calling Chicken Tikka--they said they'd mixed some stuff together from the buffet. Really unappetizing so I said I'd prefer to cancel this part of the order and they took the chicken tikka back to the kitchen. Just as the cashier was refunding the cost of this part of the order, the owner came out and said they'd just finished making a new batch of chicken tikka (impossible from a timing standpoint). It was exactly the same chicken tikka they had tried to pass off before but now it had curried French fries on the top. Yuck. At that point, I gave up and took the order. Dumb me--got home and realized that they had given me the wrong order. When I called them they said they'd mixed up the order with someone else's. They said they would comp us on the dinner but we would need to come back in to pick up our order, which they would completely remake for us. It would be ready in 20 minutes. We got there in 20 and the food was sitting on the counter and had been for quite awhile. And no--of course they didn't comp us. When we got home we realized the food was cold and that the chicken tikka was so old and dry, we tossed it. Never again--we'll stick with Amber India--way better food and excellent service. read more

Visited Passage to India with my office colleagues for lunch buffet. They have ample seating and a good ambiance. The buffet is a good selection of both vegetarian and non vegetarian food. This place will suit you if your body does fine to the following (inedible) substances: 1) Cheap quality spices (and a lot of it to cover for the lack of taste of the veggie/meat) 2) Dishes cooked in infinite supply of cheap oil/butter (to cover the lack of taste for using frozen or stale vegetables) If your body is a healthy fit body which is sensitive to the food you put into it, and rejects cheap quality ingredients used in their cooking, you may face one or a combination of the following consequences: 1) Diarrhea 2) Burning ass (from the cheap hot spices leaving your body the next morning) 3) Hemorrhoids 4) Crappy and foggy mood 5) A feeling of "I hate the world, and the world hates me" A general test for the quality of the ingredients used in cooking in Indian restaurants is the following: "Has the food been drowned in excessive amount of Oil/Butter, Salt, Sugar and Spices" ? Usually when the ingredients consist of cheap flavorless stale vegetables and/or meat, they add those murderous amounts of fat, sugar and salt to cover up....... If you are concerned about the well-being of your body and mind, stay far away from this restaurant. FYI, I am an endurance athlete who is very careful about what I eat, because the food affects my body and my mind, and in turn affects how I perform in my outdoor activities, as well as generally in my life and career. read more

Heres the deal, this is one of the largest buffet I have had in bay area for $17 on a weekend. With that big spread of items you would expect few items to be good and few to be not according to your liking. I considered the number of items I liked, the type of options, the ambience, and service to rate. Many of the review here are of dinner or weekday I assume, this review is specifically for Weekend Lunch buffet of veggie food. They had a huge number of items and I consider the price worth the items. A chaat corner to start with which was filled with items to prepare your won chat. It also had paani puri's. So you can prepare anything from papdi chat, paani puri, to sev puri etc. They also had masala, chutneys, a potato mix that you can put inside paani puri etc. Many options. Next in line was masala dosa with two type of chutneys- coconut and onion/tomato (it was in one of the bowls near chaat corner). The chutneys were awesome. Dosa was thin and small, but looking at spread I wouldnt want anything larger. This was followed by Chole batura. Batura was very fluffy and amazing. Chole was disappointing, less on salt. I enjoyed the batura with the chutneys and potato masala made for the dosa. This was followed by pav bhaji and pakoda, both were nothing to crave about. There was spicy potato which was tremendously delicious. Tarka Idli with sambhar was very good too. Loved the sambhar especially. Many people dont understand, but coming from Texas, a Indian buffet having Indo-Chineese item is not surprising for me. But, other than american chopsey, I didnt like the noodles or the veggie balls. The upma was having a lot of cashews and pretty well made except it was cold and i didnt eat it completely. The veggie Biryani was amazing. Naan was freshly served to our table and was tasty and crispy. The curries were Malai Kofta, Aloo spinach, Mushroom curry, panneer mutter and probably one more. I liked malai kofta, Aloo spinach, Dal and Mushroom curry. There was a tomato soup which was horrible. All this was finally followed by 4 desserts- a cake, jamoon, rasmalai, mango softserve. Except the mongo icecream, i enjoyed everything else. All of them were on the sweeter side of the scale, which I am generally fine with. I apologize if I missed few items, which I for sure did as there were so many. The thing is, with so many items the number of items you like is generally much larger than number of items you like in a buffet of smaller size which has more expected quality. This is a very good buffet for vegetarians. Btw, service was very good since our plates were being removed pretty quickly. read more

We went to Bengali food festival buffet, it was not authentic at all as they have advertised. Food was not at all tasty, fish fry was made of besan (chick pea batter), it was like fish pakoras not fish fry. I am sure who ever has eaten real authentic bengali food will not like this version of bengali food. Doi mach or fish curry was extremely bad Please do not cheat people like this. read more

I routinely eat at the Passage To India bakery (near Shoreline) and thought of trying this one out on a Friday night. Given the hefty price tag of $16 for a buffet, and seeing all the other positive reviews, I was expecting better. I was wrong. Makes me wonder how many of these positive reviews are written by the owners themselves with fake profiles. First, the service horrible. The waiter did not give any spoons or forks until we asked him to get them for us. He seemed so busy that I had to walk over and talk to him to get his attention. And things only got worse from there. Food was tasteless and nauseating. In the chat section, some key ingredient was always missing and they were very slow in refilling the stations. The only items that were good were plain rice, malai paneer and the pastries. In the end, it was nothing but a rip off. And to add insult to injury, the friday night we chose to go happened to be valentines day. While checking out, they demanded us to pay $19.95 for the buffet claiming it to be a valentine's day special. When I pointed out their website only says $16.95 they showed me some fine print which basically said they can charge however they want. Avoid this place like the plague if you want to preserve your taste buds, money in your wallet and your dignity. read more

Terrible. The navratan korma was essentially frozen prepared veg in cream. It was white. I've never seen an Indian dish that didn't contain some sort of cumin or turmeric. The vegetable makhani was better and the tandoori prawns excellent but would not consider a repeat visit. read more

On my last day of driving to Mtn. View once per week, I came here to give myself a celebratory lunch. As I drove up, it was unclear if they were open, as the drapes appeared drawn, but the door was unlocked. I entered into a dark, yet nicely decorated space and was quickly seated at booth. The music was nice and soothing and I started to feel like I could sit back and take a nap. Instead, I got up and went to the buffet. There were lots of options and I really appreciated that they weren't the usual, run-of-the-mill dishes. There was goat, noodles, and lots of condiments and sauces. I was feeling a bit unexciting, so I went with my standby Butter Chicken, Saag Panner, and Malai Kofta. I found all the sauces to be quite bland and missing flavor. The naan was good, but dipping it in my bland sauces made me sad. I was happy to get a small dosa with my meal, though! Nice touch! Staff were attentive and my water never went below 2/3 full. The bathroom, however, is weird. It's like leaving a nice restaurant and entering a dive bar bathroom. It looks like it hasn't been painted in years, the tiles have stuff splashed all over them, and the stall doors don't shut right or lock. While it's not really dirty, it just looks like nobody's tended to it in over 10 years. It's a real contrast to the cloth napkins and decor in the main restaurant. The kicker, though, was that the buffet was $12 for LUNCH. Waayy overpriced for what I got, I expected more like $8. read more

We rarely ever eat at Indian restaurants ( except for a very select few ) and almost never at Indian buffets . The lunch buffet reminded me why not - too much grease !! Lunch buffet here offers North Indian, South Indian, indo-Chinese items and a chaat station but not a single item is worth mentioning - everything is mediocre . Not one item hits the spot :( Before we started our lunch, DH quickly glanced and commented that they had no mutton in the buffet, which was disappointing for him. However that was the least of his disappointments. Eating there was a BIG Mistake !! It's only quantity , no quality. Every item was a disappointment . Recently tried the dinner buffet at this place - unfortunately, even the regulars that I came with, were a bit disappointed. I was looking forward to enjoying the pav bhaji & desi chinese items on the menu...but they were too spicy to eat. The buffet has a large number of items, but nearly everything I tried was a-ok. Great place though if you are either super-hungry and don't really want the best Indian food in the 'hood, or are with a large group. The best items on the menu were the appetizers - veggie pakodas & garlic cauliflower, red curry tofu with sticky rice, and the dessert - pineapple pastry.
