It's been awhile since I reviewed once of the best places around. Online ordering makes things easy. Curbside pickup is a great convenience, just call when you get there. Outside seating is also available. I miss their brunch but the dinner is also amazing. The Roman pizza is a must get each time. The garlic, bacon, chili results is amazing flavor. Crust is thin, well cooked. The crispy potatoes is the star veggie. Crispy. Salty. Tender. The Brussel sprouts were good, but I kept the potatoes for myself. Risotto balls were good. Crispy. Cheesy. Hosted a private dining event here in their room on the second floor. Highly recommended! We had 26 women and fit comfortably in the room, even with acoustics of us all! You can access the second floor from the staircase or elevator, if needed. They accommodated me with the elevator since I had a wagon filled with gifts to bring up the steps. You can build out the menu with the team in advance and we did so with rice balls and pizza for shared appetizers, the shaved kale salad for first course, choice of cacio e Pepe, pistachio ravioli, or bolognese for entree, and the birthday cake dessert. Food was amazing and timing was great, which isn't always the case at these coursed menus. There is a private restroom in the space, and a bar set up as well. They have a variety of beer and wine upstairs, but you can order anything from the bar and they bring it up to the room for you. I was surprised by how quiet it is up there, no noise bleed from downstairs. Every woman in attendance has raved about how nice the evening was and I'm grateful to Pastaria for making it so seamless! It was our first time here. I love the feel of what I feel like the Tuscan vibe is. I didn't look up any reviews or.menu items before going so I was a bit surprised to see it was quite pricey. We went on a Monday which is the only day they serve meatballs. One of the guests got that and I tried it and it was delicious. Another guest got spaghetti which I don't think was called spaghetti per se but was not good to me. Everything is made from scratch and in this case I would rather have the box. It was literally like eating thick boiled flour. Another guest ordered the pistachio ravioli and that was good. It had a fresh lemony flavor to it. Someone got the chicken which I found to be very tasty and well seasoned but seemed to be a bit overpriced. I got the bacon pizza. The cheese was delicious and the pizza was pretty good. Pastaria is one of those quintessential St. Louis places to try. I honestly love the vibe of this place with the photos of community members in the background and the candles on the table. Would recommend making a reservation even for weekday nights because the restaurant gets busy. - Tagliatelle - This dish is essentially red meat sauce and pasta. The noodles are cooked al dente which I like because it slowly to get softer as it sits in the plate throughout the meal. Also I appreciate how much sauce they put into the dish, the flavors aren't as overwhelming as other Italian places on the Hill. - Complimentary Bread - This bread is arguably better than the tagliatelle and I love all the different kinds of pairings they give you - olive oil, Thai pepper oil, and parmesan cheese. Also it's very nice to see the waiter physically slice the bread on the side as you know that it is fresh from the oven. Stopped in here one rainy cold night. I love Pastaria for it's welcoming ambiance and nice people. Located in the center of Clayton's business district, Pastaria is a great lunch and dinner spot. Lots of street parking and a parking garage almost right next door. Pastaria is a great spot for family gatherings. Lots of big tables. Our food was fantastic. Risotto balls were very good. We had another appetizer but I cannot remember it's name but it had a puttanesca base and it was amazing. If you like pistachios I highly recommend the pistachio ravioli the nuts are toasted in butter and browned. It's delicious. I don't remember all of the other entrees but there were no complaints. I have been to Pastaria numerous times - I simply cannot get enough of this place. Most recently, I celebrated my birthday at Pastaria with my family. I always pretend like I will order something else, but I consistently order the pistachio ravioli. It is my favorite ravioli of all time. The cheese ravioli combined with the crunch of the pistachios in delicious salty butter sauce cannot be beat. I always order the risotto balls as an appetizer. They are simply a must. For my birthday, we ordered 3 orders of 6 for a table of 8 and I swear they did not last longer than 2 minutes on the table. For dessert, cannot pass up the gelato. All of the flavors I have tried are good, but the salted caramel is particularly spectacular. It is so creamy and the perfect amount of sweet and salty. The restaurant is cozy, but spacious enough to feel comfortable. Service is almost always amazing, although sometimes it seems like they could use more wait staff for how busy it is. Pastaria is my favorite restaurant in St. Louis, and I can't wait to return! read more

Went here with a large party of coworkers so we made a reservation ahead of time. The place was pretty packed for a Thursday night and quite loud. I ordered the moscato to drink and if you like a sweet wine I would definitely recommend it. We tried a lot of food and it was all good. The mushroom appetizer was tasty and so were the arancini bites. I ordered the Canestri Cacio e Pepe for my entree and it was good but nothing special. When I was thinking about where I wanted to celebrate my birthday dinner, I really only had 1 restaurant in mind! I knew that Pastaria was the right choice. While it would have been great to dine inside, I am still not comfortable with it, so instead, we ordered carry-out. Placing the order was easy to do online and when I selected the day/time for pick-up, I received an email confirmation right away. When we arrived to pick up the order, we called inside and the gentleman working the curbside shift; found our car right away and delivered everything quickly. He made sure to let us know that the gelato was right on top. When we got home to eat, we decided to plate our meals instead of eating them from the to-go containers (which are really great for re-use). Our pasta was so good and I was glad to see that they even provided a few slices of their bread! We also ordered their risotto balls as an appetizer which were delicious. I ordered the Cacio e Pepe and was so impressed with how the noodles were cooked perfectly. Not too hard and not mushy either. The sauce and the pepper were just right and the amount of pasta was enough for a 2nd meal the next day! My husband ordered the Garganelli and said that the meat was tender and juicy and that the pasta noodles were also perfectly cooked with great flavors in the sauce. Overall, we both really enjoyed our meals and were still talking about it the next day. He was a little jealous that I saved some for lunch the next day so I got to enjoy it twice! The gelato was a great ending to the meal. Salted caramel gelato is a must try when visiting Pastaria. I recommend it. Actually, I would recommend any gelato flavor since they are all delicious! This is a restaurant I have been wanting to try for two years. I was so excited to try the pistachio ravioli and it was delicious. My daughter got pepperoni pizza, well it was pizza, but I knew there was nothing else she would get. My mother tried the Chicken Cacciatore and it was delicious for sure. We ended the night with delicious gelato that we all enjoyed. What made this a three star experience was service. The hostesses were okay not bubbly friendly but that wasn't what bothered us. What bothered us was the waiter who seemed to want to help everyone's but us. Never came by with fresh water or to offer more soft drinks. I had to get our own straws and only after he saw me getting up to get our own supplies did he ask how everything was. When the evening ended was when he was his friendliest and this is annoying because by that point you know he is only being nice to get a tip. I would came back but wouldn't race back because for the amount of food you get prices are high and other than me, my family likes to eat pretty plainly. I do hope that they might stress to the service staff if we are paying this much for food, and don't get me wrong we knew prices when we got there and price wasn't really the problem) but you expect good service at a nice dining establishment and it put a bit of a damper on the evening and a meal I had very much been looking forward to read more

This is not your father's old typical Italian restaurant. This is an updated contemporary Italian in the heart of Clayton at its best. At 730pm on a Tuesday night every table in the restaurant was taken. We walked in without a reservation and was seated right away. The restaurant is airy, light, high ceilings, open kitchen, and the environment just screams, "come in, this place is IT". Got the Garganelli which was braised beef, olives, gremolata, and grana Padang in a curly noodle. Tasty with rich flavor and a large portion. The bread they brought to the table was thick, soft, hearty, and good. The red wine the server suggested was one of the best I've ever had. We did not need any side dish or salad as we did not walk out hungry the portions were so large and hearty. Not a huge menu but offers very different pizzas, pastas, 2 main entrees, soups, salads, appetizers, and vegetables unlike any Italian restaurant in St Louis. She was lovely, despite being triple-sat by the hostess, whom I can only assume was waging an angry one-woman war on the waitstaff. Two of us made reservations for 6:45 on a Wednesday, got there about 10 minutes early, waited until 7 to be seated. Waited another 10 minutes for our server (who seemed a little overstretched), who took our drink order then returned 5 minutes later to take our order, having forgotten the drinks. Friendly service, but later again forgot our 2nd drink order (which we placed when our food was delivered about 20 min later). The food was 4/5 stars considering the price - decent portion sizes, tasted great but seemed just barely short of al dente on the undercooked side. Flavors were perfect (the gnocchi appetizer was particularly enjoyable) and the wine was on point - the Pecorino white was particularly good. But, for the price, on a weeknight at the end of prime time service should be more efficient and the kitchen should be on its game. That being said, it's a nice, open setup with pleasantly eclectic modern touches, the location is great and both the deli/gelato area and bar add to the appeal. Had service been more efficient (again - seemed like a staffing issue, our server was covering way too many tables) and the pasta cooked just a touch more, might have been in the 4.5 stars region. My friend and I only stop by for dessert and a couple drinks after having dinner somewhere else. And I must say that the food here looks absolutely amazing. Even though I can't review it I can tell you that all the plates around us made us hungry all over again. For dessert we had a tiramisu and a seasonal peach berry dessert with a vanilla gelato on top. That desert was absolutely amazing. I wish it was warm so it can go well with the ice cream but overall it was very tasty. I also had a glass of wine to accompany my dessert and that was very good too. This was our first visit to this popular restaurant. We had friends and family share lots of recommendations and stories of birthday celebrations and anniversaries at Pastaria. However, we were not impressed. The seating felt like cafeteria style with rows of tables. No intimacy here. Our waitress Carolyn was wonderful! She answered our questions with a smile and brought us yummy fresh bread and oils/Parmesan for dipping. I ordered the Pistachio Ravioli recommended to me by a friend. The ravioli came out swimming in oil (?) and was not that good. If it wasn't for the bread, I would not had enough to satisfy me. My husband got the Chicken Cacciatore which he said was tasty. However, for $33, felt it should have at least came with a salad and more veggies. Our tab for a party of six came barely under $200 with the tip. (We all drank water...no cocktails). Yes, I know this is Clayton...but, in my opinion we could have gotten a much better Italian food on The Hill for 1/2 the cost. Sorry Pastaria. You didn't get my kudos. read more

Gerard Craft has done it again. We walked in on a Sunday night and were able to get immediate seating at the Chef's counter -- watching the kitchen toss pizza dough and drizzle olive oil on top of fresh made noods was a tantalizing experience. We ordered the olives, the mixed green salad, the pistachio ravioli, and the mushroom pizza and each item was excellent. The pistachio ravioli was the perfect Al dente bite in a buttery, mint sauce. The bechamel on the pizza was an interesting twist. They also have an incredible cocktail menu. My partner and I first heard about Pastaria via word of mouth when a friend gave rave reviews. We decided to go when craving Italian and boy did it really live up to the hype. Our reservation was immediately fulfilled with near-zero wait and we were seated at an intimate two-person table. Frequent water refills with complimentary bread which was crisp and fluffy. Try not to fill yourself up early! The atmosphere and ambiance was great for a night time dining dinner experience, especially smaller parties or date nights. The menu is robust but not overly plentiful lending itself to decision fatigue. However, we still could not decide what to get because it all sounded so good! With our PASTA mnemonic (presentation, affordability, service, taste, and atmosphere), we gave everything a 5/5 except affordability 4/5, however, that was to be expected when you dine at such a nice restaurant for something like a date night. The service was excellent, quick, and welcoming while the ambiance had that dull dinner rush background roar about it with a bustling kitchen. Lively with conversation as the wine pours and pizza dough rises. We enjoyed our mixed green salad topped with thinly sliced pear as well as our Roman pizza which had a thick, crisp crust topped with thick blocks of bacon. What really stole the show, however, was the semolina linguine with black noodles and generous amounts of shrimp. This was by far the most delicious Italian dish we have had in a while and was one dish my partner and I did not want to share. It was not so rich that you had to stop eating it half way through, in fact, the taste was lighter than we would have thought and only left us wanting more. Came here on Monday night and had plenty of seats. It did get packed towards six to 7 o'clock though. Great casual vibe and definitely kid friendly. They started off with some nice fresh baked bread. That's a big plus in my book to have really good bread. Order the canestri cacio e pepe. Never had cacio e pepe with canestri but the flavors were spot on. Really could taste the freshly ground black pepper and the pecorino. We also got that crispy risotto balls which were fantastic. Small bite-size pieces of fried mozzarella. Really good marinara sauce. In addition we also got the meatballs which came in three different types of meats. Fresh pasta is tough to nail for takeout. Typically you'll notice a different texture/bite from the first bite compared to the last. Pastaria nailed takeout pasta. The lamb cavatelli was killer. Nicely seasoned, good sauce ratio and lots of lamb. This place knows pasta and how to do it very well. If you haven't visited yet, you're missing out on one of the best restaurants in Clayton and in my top 10 in STL. And as always customer service is extremely friendly and quick. read more
