On October 7th I went into this business to order a cake for my 47th birthday. I had a photo that I brought for the service that they offer on cakes. I wanted a round cake but the girl said that the sheet cake would work better for that photo so I asked if they tasted the same and she said yes. So i said okay then I will get that and can you put a border of all small purple flowers so it looks like a frame. She said yes and then about the writing I said same color to match. On October 11th I was called and told that the photo was not printing correctly so it couldn't be done and they could refund the money for the photo but I would need to come in as it was bought on a credit card. I am not well so coming there isn't easy on me but I was picking meds up at target so asked if they had a bathroom just in case and she said yes. I got there and I said that I would need to change the whole cake now because no sense getting the sheet cake without the photo so I would go back to the 2nd size round cake. Again specifying no lemon filling and nothing orange. I said that I would still like something Halloween and multicolor flowers now instead because all the purple would look stupid. I saw her write on the slip about the no lemon filling, no orange and multi color flowers. She then said well we could always do 2 small black bats and I was like that will look and I won't repeat the word which I did apologize for in a text because I was upset because everything was going wrong and my party was in under a day. So she said well how about Halloween rings then and I said I guess it will have to do and she wrote it down and stapled it to the paper. My father picked up the cake the next morning with only about 2 hours til my party and it was all purple so I was so upset when he got home. I called and asked for a manager which never did get on the phone and was told they would ask someone named chuck and get back to me shortly. No one ever called but when I served the cake the entire thing tasted like lemon and I got sick immediately. The other guests couldn't eat it either so it ended up going in the trash but I called to let them know what happened and again no manager to speak to. Just someone named chuck would be in later and would call me. I had sent a message to their page earlier prior to eating the cake about how I was upset because it was nothing like what I asked for or what was written and sent a photo. They did respond that the cake was beautiful. Well when it isn't what you ordered or wanted it isn't and I said so stating they had nicer ones in the case and mine looked like Easter instead of Halloween. I then got a response of that I couldn't make up my mind and I said a word the girl didn't like. And the paper only said purple. I apologized for that word but I was upset and said I told her I wanted something Halloween and not only purple like when I had the photo selected and saw her write it down and went with her suggestion of the rings because I have no idea what the baker is capable of drawing or doing outside of the photo other than writing and flowers and when i first said maybe skeletons she didn't respond but mentioned the bat thing. I saw her staple the papers together before I left so what happened to that I don't know because the person replying in the text said only the all purple paper was there. They refunded the money for the cake which I didn't ask for and do appreciate that but the last response I got from the facebook page was (Sorry Cindy. Please take your business elsewhere as there seems to be an issue constantly. Thanks By the way our cakes have had lemon for 43 years.) Our family had been going there since I was 4 years old and all those years we had only had with this experience 3 issues so I thought that where he thought my 1 word was not right which I did apologize for that this persons responses when an order was so messed up and it didn't seem like anyone even cared was just terrible. I didn't need the refund but just an apology for it not being correct would have been nice seeing your cake is usually the main focal point of any party. I would have even brought the cake back to them to taste it because like I said we have had these cakes for all these years and had it been all lemon flavor I would not have been going there due to the reaction I have with lemon. The reason I asked for no lemon filing was because when I was 17 we ordered a cake out of the display case asking for a yellow cake not realizing they made a cake with lemon filling instead of the frosting type filling so we knew they made such a thing at that point but this cake I received was not a fruit filling but the whole cake you would have thought was lemon and not yellow not sure what happened nor did they even ask me to have someone bring it there so they could even look at it. read more

Some places are businesses. Some places are landmarks. Pastryland Bakery is an institution. I grew up in Glocester in the 1990s, and a trip to Pastryland was practically a weekly tradition. I actually have photos of my high school friends and me standing inside the bakery from 1997, which probably tells you everything you need to know about how long this place has been part of my life. Decades later, I'm still stopping in, and that's because they continue to do things the right way. The pastries are outstanding. Fresh, flavorful, and consistently excellent. I can honestly say I've never had a bad pastry here. Whether you're picking up something sweet with a coffee, grabbing dessert for a family gathering, or just treating yourself, it's hard to go wrong. Every Christmas, our family orders a Yule Log cake, and it has become one of those traditions that simply wouldn't feel right without Pastryland. What often gets overlooked are their sandwiches. They're fantastic. Fresh ingredients, generous portions, and made with the same attention to quality that goes into everything else they sell. Just as important as the food are the people behind the counter. The women who work there today are wonderful, and the same could be said of the staff from years ago. There's always been a warmth to the place that makes customers feel welcome. In an era where so many businesses come and go, that kind of consistency means something. A lot has changed in northern Rhode Island since I was a teenager, but Pastryland remains one of those rare places that continues to deliver exactly what people love about it. The custard was similar to vanilla pudding in taste and very smooth, too. They put just the right amount. It was easy to eat where you had filling in each bite but it didn't overflow and make a mess. Finally, the apple turnover was awesome. The pastry was flaky and a little extra crispy from the sugar crust on top. The apple filling was all the way through the pastry, so even though we split the turnover three ways, each of us were able to have the same experience. Overall, I am pleased to have found this spot. I'm definitely coming back. I now have 4 places off the top of my head within 10 minutes if my house to get fantastic pizza strips. Super happy about the recommendation!
