From reading other reviews, it sounds as if this is a good place if you want the very specific meat dishes that they offer. As a vegetarian accompanying someone who is a meat eater, I was surprised to find almost nothing to truly make a meal out of. It's surprising because nowadays most places have at least a few options for non meat eaters, and there is a lot of great Mediterranean food that is made without meat. I ended up with iceberg lettuce, some yogurt, and hummus that wasn't very good with very dry pita. I got the sense that the side dishes are not a focus, and while I would be fine with making a meal out of side dishes this was not a very satisfactory experience. This review is relevant if you have someone in your party who does not eat meat, it looked as if meat eaters would be very happy. read more

The highlight of the experience was the clean toilet - deserves two extra stars just for that. But, the housefly in the dining area brought a star down. Also, we couldn't enjoy the warm hospitality of the waitress; something you should definitely check out by conversing in her language. Hopefully the locals can start enjoying it if they actually learn Persian and show up. PS: the restaurant serves Persian cuisine not Afghan under which Yelp surfaces it. read more

Omg does the food smell so good and aromatic! Makes your mouth water. Tastes so good too. Been here a few times a long time ago. New owners so I thought I'd try it again. Am glad I did. This is hands-down the best kabob place I've been to in Turlock. It's expensive as hell, but god damn their food is good. Their chicken and lamb is to die for -- so moist and well cooked. Omnomnom. The lamb is spot on -- I love me some good lamb, but can't stand the meat when it's not prepared well. The gaminess is overpowering when it's over or undercooked. But here, you get medium rare and moist deliciousness -- good job Patogh. And the chicken: DON'T GET ME STARTED on how good their chicken is with a little bit of roaster tomato and a sprinkle of seasoning. The way the meat is prepared here combined with the butteriness of their rice is such a delight. Now the prices are pretty damn high, but I haven't eaten kabobs in Turlock for the longest time simply because I haven't enjoyed what I've found. I'll gladly pay for quality, and that's what I've experienced here. Patogh isn't one of those places any working-class individual could go to with great regularity, but hot damn is it a wonderful treat every now and then. Though the decor is a bit... Confused. Upon entering, there are menus hanging all against the left side of the joint. It's rather strange, but thankfully the right side of the place has some tasteful boho influences. There's modern, white planters suspended beside a gorgeous painting of a cafe (for real, take a second to admire the texture of that painting when you sit next to it). Head towards the back of the place, towards the bathroom, and there are even more pretty pretty paintings. Good choices guys! More beautiful paintings and less menus on the walls; it's an interesting idea but mad tacky. Also, the owner here is the sweetest little lady. She seemed a bit stressed, but maybe that's because she gets a lot of shitty customers who post overly-critical, yet vague and unhelpful reviews on her business's Yelp page. Seriously you guys, go into more depth with your scathing, below 3-star reviews! There are people whose livelihoods are affected by Yelp reviews and they can't improve without specificity in the criticism they receive. Anyways, rant over. Eat here. NAOOW. read more

This place is tucked around the corner of the plaza, facing Cal State Stanislaus. We were immediately greeted, and service was friendly right off the bat. I'm glad the owner suggested we eat family style, because the portions are huge here. I think we had the pickled appetizer, two chicken and two beef kebabs, two plates of rice, two orders of bread, and the fesenjoon stew for the six of us. We ended up taking home four boxes!! The prices are surprisingly decent, considering most persian restaurants kind of hurt the wallet. If you come, the turkish coffee is a MUST. This is the best place I've been to in Turlock. If you are in the area, skip the taco place and sushi joint next door and go straight here. The lamb shank literally falls off the bone when you touch it. The accompaniment of yogurt, onion, cilantro, radish and bread were all very fresh and excellent. There is amazing food in this restaurant! Everything I've tried is delicious. I can't get enough of the Persian Salad and the Grape Leaf Dolmas are just the right size. Delicious!
