I would give zero stars if I could. If you want an Irish bar, MURPHY's is right around the corner, and PIPER DOWN is worth the extra distance!!!! I have never been treated so poorly as a patron of an establishment in my life, even abroad. The bartender swore at us several times and told us to "get the f*** out" repeatedly, I am not sure why. We tipped generously (even though not tipping well is no excuse for the way we were treated) and we had several drinks. I have certainly had subpar service in the past, but I have NEVER had someone in the service industry curse at me and my group. No wonder there were only 10 people in this bar on a Saturday night with several events going on downtown. I worked as a waiter for over 15 years and I have never seen such bad behavior, especially from someone who I believe to be the owner of that bar. GO TO MURPHY'S OR PIPER DOWN! read more

This is our first Utah bar experience and this state is very aggressive about IDs. We are in our 50's and the first thing when you walk in is the bartender yelling at you to show an ID. It's a bit inhospitable but it's a state law. read more

Absolutely love every employee at this place. Very warm and welcoming, friendly, easy to strike up a conversation with, etc. The owner of Patrick's is so cool, if he isn't behind the bar working, he's stopping in and striking up conversations with his employees or his regulars. Awesome selection for a small space, excellent pricing, genuine people. Convenient and easy location as it's close to other popular spots to drink but also close to where major events in town are held. So, I have been to this place MANY times. Liked it. Cool vibe, reasonable prices. This past Saturday morning I was queing up for the Pride Parade and I needed to find a restroom. I had been here many times before and was familiar with the bathroom situation. I entered, showed my ID and told the door guy I was there for the restroom, he kinda knew or recognized me from previous visits, did my business and the bar tender as I was on my way out (at 8:45 am mind you) asks me if I needed anything. I said I had come in to use the restroom. He starts freaking out basically yelling "This is a business" implying I should have not used their restroom unless I ordered a drink. Wow... I will NEVER visit this place again. The guy was a freaking jerk. I do not want to support a business that treats anyone like this paying customer or not. read more

The owner/bartender of this place by the name Bryce AKA "Rownees" (his name tag) was unnecessarily rude to a group of nice girls for no reason. We all ordered drinks, tipped him, and he repeatedly kept saying we needed to say "please" to him like some chauvinistic a-hole. Also, a nice gentleman by the bar let some of us sit on his chairs while he went outside to make a call, and this rude bartender made sure we did not sit on his bar stools. He was like "Get off those chairs, someone else is sitting there!" He was unnecessarily rude and went out of his way to let us know. So unprofessional, no way to build a clientele. This was our first time at Patrick's, and left us all with a bad taste in our mouths. I will never come back or recommend this place. read more

Last weekend, me and several of my coworkers participated in an event where we packed 1 million meals over 2 days to fight hunger for kids in Utah. It was hard work and we were excited that we met our goal. So 9 of us went together to celebrate. Since this was part of Silicon Slopes Tech Summit, we had been at the Salt Palace and Patrick's was a convenient place to go. Because of the hours of hard work and since we were going straight from the service project, one of my coworkers had her water bottle with her when he scanned her ID. I had my work bag with an unopened redbull in it. I'd had a couple in my bag to help get through the long day of packing meals. When we got to the table, she set her water bottle down and I pulled out my redbull to drink because I don't drink alcohol. My other coworkers walked back over to the bar to order drinks because the bartender made it very clear that they don't do table service. I took one sip of my redbull and the bartender came charging over yelling at us. He grabbed the water bottle saying we couldn't have it in the bar and he grabbed my redbull and rudely told me I couldn't have it in there. I said, "I'll take it outside and he angrily looked at me and said nope and threw it in the trash. We just wanted to sit and relax from all our hard work. I don't know if there was a sign that said "no outside drinks." If so, I'm sorry I didn't see it. If there's a law against it, I don't know about it. With Patrick's Pub being so close to a huge convention center during a massive convention and the Sundance film festival in town, I think the polite and prudent thing to do would be to assume that not everyone is going to know all the laws or rules for Utah, Salt Lake City, and Patrick's Pub. The bartender could have simply walked up and said, "I'm sorry but we don't allow outside food or drinks." To which I would have said, "I'm sorry. I'll go drink it outside." He also could have taken note that we were all wearing volunteer service shirts and we looked like we'd been working hard and assumed that the water bottle was simply a water bottle. He could have politely walked up and said, "I'm sorry, I should have told you when I scanned your ID that your water bottle isn't allowed. I need to set it behind the bar and you can retrieve it when you leave." How hard is it to be polite? We weren't loud. We weren't bothering other patrons. All but 2 of the 9 people were ordering drinks and planned to order many more, so we weren't just freeloading. I left immediately with those that hadn't ordered drinks. Those that had, finished their drinks quickly and followed a few minutes later. We went to Bourbon House a couple blocks away and they took very good care of us. When we left after 3 hours and spending hundreds of dollars, they thanked us for hanging out with them and wished us a good night. read more

Pat's is an excellent place to grab a drink and chill with other patrons. Inexpensive, and they do not serve AMF'S or long islands, so the college crowd isn't a problem. Also, if you are looking for food, I recommend the bowl 'of noodles. read more

Thomzilla. WORST person alive. When we arrived, 1240am, he said we had 10 minutes and he was closing. Sign pn the door said 2am...he said, yeah, legally you have an hour after last call (1am), but if you're here past 120 you're wasting my time. A guy in our group was kidding around about getting a beer quick, and Thomzilla told him he was douchie. (yes, his exact word). Reluctantly, we ordered a 2nd beer. Then he swiftly cleared said guy's $4 change off the bar and put it in his tip jar. Not only was he nasty rude and an overall jerk, he was a thief. NEVER going back. read more

Great little bar. Pleasant and professional staff that doesnt let the amateurs, snobs, or self important get away with ruining the night for the rest of us. Low key and relaxed, and the pinball machines are an amazing consolation for getting rid of the dart board. Great little spot in downtown SLC to stop in and get some drinks. The selection is great and the prices are very reasonable, especially for downtown. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere is amaaaazing. It's a quieter bar in the sense that you can have a conversation with your friends and not have to talk over the music which is a nice change from most of the bars in the area. I found my way to Patrick's Pub after attending Salt Lake City's Comicon Convention, FanX, which is right across the street. I sat in the middle of the bar and was pleasantly greeted by an amazingly handsome bartender Bryce who quickly served me a refreshing cocktail. After soaking in the space while sipping my delitefully refreshing beverage, I noticed to my right on the corner of the bar sat an attractive all female Witch Coven eating J Wong's from next door, and to my left on the other corner of the bar sat an equal number of all male Wizards in training playing a PlayStation game on the bars TV monitor. After assessing what I had put myself directly in the middle of while sipping another brilliantly served refreshingly and deliteful beverage, Bryce's handsome face began to morph as if the beginning stages of an LSD trip were beginning to take over. I picked up my glass and inspected the lime a bit closer. Had it fermented into a psychedelic slice of glee and wonder? I took another lick. No. It was something else. I looked to the right corner of the bar to see if the attractive mid 30s Witch Coven seemed to be experiencing any late onset psychedelic phenomenon. They casually ate their noodles and texted one another while giggling catty comments through texts on their iPhones. If they were experiencing late onset psychedelic phenomenon they weren't showing any behaviors that would indicate tripping. I looked to my left to see if the Wizards in training were showing any behaviors of tripping. But honestly my experience with video game wizards is such that whether tripping or not you would never know. The plight of the video game wizard is so vastly encompassed within the psychedelic realm you would never notice if there was one thumb in LSD land twiddling mushrooms or not. And then there was me. A solitary Witch Wizard nestled between two not so opposing dual realities sipping a deliteful refreshing beverage while Bryce's face not so gradually morphed and then peeled into a tentacle induced fury of scales and sexually explicit devices of thumb like double AA taking slithering call of Chuchulu. The beverage indeed may have been spiked with pre 1994 era Owlsey blotter, or have taken the punch of a fermented gleeful lime slice, but I think Comicon itself full of Witches and Wizards had opened a Portal of no return in Patrick's Pub. Dare not enter the door on the right if you are not prepared to answer the call of Chuchulu because my next memory is waking up in my bed. My soul missing. No recollection of what I sold it for. My friend and I came here after a show on a Sunday night. It was pretty slow. Bartender Thomas helped us immediately which was slightly annoying because I like to be ignored or have the bartender waste their time while I decide what I'm drinking. We have been so many places that we are not accustomed to the level of service provided at Patrick's Pub. I hope the next time we come in I am treated how I am expected to be... worthless. Thomas and the owner, probably hang out after work if you know what I mean. We're into that. Anyway... Great new bar! It has a neighborhood bar vibe, even in the heart of downtown. Definitely a great place to stop by if you're in town for a convention since it's right across the street from the Salt Palace Convention Center. Yelps 2 Star rating description is "meh. I've experienced better", which more accurately describes my experiences here but seems mean for a bar I'd like to do well. The bar is new and clean and style and setup is nice (if a little cliche). Location is great; right in center downtown. There are a couple of drinks specialties with good prices, but other than those pricing is above average for most drinks. On-tap beer and drink variety is smaller than average, and service.... You know those old bars in every town, the ones with long-time regulars where customers have to "earn" their place, but everyone puts up with it because of the history/legacy and the culture/vibe? Patrick's service is like that, but without the history/legacy/culture/vibe. I've been 3 times and had the same experience every time. There are no food options, though the J. Wong's restaurant next door will serve you. Yet, I can't help thinking I'd rather just go to J. Wong's. I wouldn't miss much. read more
