Both were trashed because they were inedible, uncooked, soggy dough, at an extravagant 70$cost, I feel robbed. The uncooked toppings and gross low quality cheese were the worst I've ever had. It was made by someone who's never cooked a pizza before yet ride on the curtails of their heritage legacy. This place is good from far but far from good. There is a lot of history behind this pizza joint. Patsy D'Amore was the first to bring pizza to L.A. in 1938 after making pizzas in New York and Boston. He opened up the first pizza stand at the Original Farmers Market in 1949. They make New York style pizzas and the lasagna and calzones are made up fresh daily. In typical New York fashion, I grabbed a slice to go after a full day of sampling at the Market. The pizza wasn't bad. Not much different from what you grab to go on some corner in Manhattan. I went with my husband in the afternoon to the grove to watch a movie and walked around the eating area and saw this pizza spot and decided to try it out. When we got there we had 2 people ahead of us. As usual it is cheaper to get the whole pizza instead of individual slices. We ordered a whole pepperoni pizza. We waited a decent amount of time for our pizza. The pizza was thin and it was good. You can't go wrong with getting a pizza unless it gets burned. It had enough cheese and pepperoni. Pricey pizza, average taste. This is definition of mall food. You go here because it is the safe bet that you will eat something familiar that will be somewhat good. I guess there's nothing much to say about it as I had an average piece of pizza. Not totally satisfying but it did the job. Nothing like yummy pizza for lunch! I was on a quick, lunch crunch since my next adult field trip with Pasadena City College was going to the La Brea Tar Pits next, after getting back from the Passage Exhibition in Santa Clarita. Located right next to Bob's Coffee and Donuts, I tried them out since I was craving pizza, and wanted to try out Bob's Coffee and Donuts infamous Apple Fritter next. I got two slices of pizza - one pepperoni and one bacon spinach garlic pizza. Total cost was $8.80 (with no drink purchased), like whoa!!! O.o Both pizza slices tasted delicious - it was hot, not too greasy, very cheesy (yay!) and seasonings on each slice was on point, and not too salty or garlicky, though I didn't like how expensive it was! For $8.80 - it cost about the same as an 8 inch Blaze or PizzaRev pizza, lol! Definitely more expensive than Sbarros, and the slices are smaller than Sbarros. This historical pizza stop was favorited by none other than Frank Sinatra himself. I'm a Sinatra fan and a pizza fan so it sits well with me! The pizza is very cheesy and very NY style. It comes out hot and steamy so be careful when you take the first bite. The crust is crisp and firm but might not be enough to support all the cheese on top so watch for the gooey cheese when you pull your slice from the pie! Now all of you who have been at the Grove & Farmer's Market know that it's busier than Grand Central Station (that's NY talk for really really crowded). Seating is a premium so don't try to get something right in front of the place, go upstairs and you will find plenty of seating. And another thing, slices don't usually sit well unless a pie is coming right out of the oven and it's intended for slices. I suggest going there with a couple of friends and ordering a whole pie because it will taste the way a pizza should taste-fresh! You should try a plain cheese pizza first to understand the love that we New Yorkers have for pizza. Such a dissapointment. This was one of my top 'to do' foodie spots in LA. The reason is because Patsy's Pizza used to be served from an old school restaurant called Villa Capri. It was one of the most famous Italian restaurants in Hollywood and Frank Sinatra and James Dean ate many a meal there. In fact, the night before James Dean's death, he had spaghetti and meatballs from Villa Capri. He was there so often he was actually renting a house from one of the owners. When a legal battle to save the Villa Capri restaurant was lost and the restaurant was knocked down to make way for ugly industrial apartment buildings ... the owners saved the pizza oven and moved to to the LA Farmer's Market and reportedly use the same recipies now that the stand is called 'Patsy's Pizza' instead of Villa Capri. The pizza here is amazingly overpriced. You pay around $20 for a regular sized pie or $3.50 for a slice of cheese. Consider that some of the best pizza you can ever have comes from the famous rock and roll restaurant, The Rainbow in West Hollywood and costs $16 for a large 1 topping pie. (Thats the same as 3 slices of cheese at Patsy's!) and the slices aren't that big! As others have said ... the pizza is not made fresh. It is pre-made and served lukewarm. They will throw it in the oven and heat it up for your for a few minutes, but that kind of changes the taste and the texture and only warms the top cheese. You can certainly tell the difference between reheated pizza and freshly made pizza. You know that gooey stringy pizza cheese on fresh pizza? Don't expect it with Patsy's. A shame considering the higher than normal prices. They also serve pasta dishes ... but why would you get those? They look as reheated as the pizza and reheated pasta is the definition of laziness. The pizza sauce itself is very tasty ... it has a nice tomato taste and is a little on the salty side. It is good tasting pizza ... I have no complaints other than the price and the re-heating thing. If Patsy's got its act together and made larger, fresher slices ... I'd consider going back. But as of not it is overpriced and underwhelming. Maybe back in James Dean's day ... it was a lot better. Or maybe he just had bad taste in food ... Sinatra was famous for his bad taste in food and he was a regular. Sorry I have to write this ... like I said, this was on my list of 'must tries' for a while. But it was a big letdown. read more

We know Patsy D'Amore has a long history, going back to his Pizzerias in New York in the 1920's. This Farmers Market location opened up in 1949 and it had a stellar reputation. Not sure what happened because usually long standing pizzerias with New York origin are amazing. This pepperoni slice was greasy and soggy. Resembling a soak up the booze type slice. Brings back memories of college either coming home from the bars or pizza they'd serve us athletes after football or basketball games. Not sure who's running the place now but they need to get back to their roots. But if you're craving lasagna we think this place is a solid option to get your fix. It's reasonably priced for the Original Farmer's Market and a good sized portion loaded with sausage, cheese and sauce. I heard patsy advertisement on KTLA, Chanel 5 and decided to try it. The pizza was cold and not all that is advertised to be, but I was hungry. The service, however, leaves a lot to be desired. On both occasions, the employees were rude and acted as though they were doing me a favor by selling me their Pizza. The first time, last week, the employee seemed very bothered with the person before me, and I think I was treated poorly as a result of that. Today, Against my better judgement, I decided to stop by there again and give them another try, BAD idea, the woman who sold me the slice was rude and once again, I experienced the attitude and unfriendliness of Last week. I couldn't understand her rudeness so I told her, they should be a little friendlier and have a better customer service, I got a dirty look in return!!!! 1 star for the rushed service. I ordered a 12" pie and wanted to add a green salad. I was told that the salad was put away because they're closing. Well after I get my pizza and other patrons have been served I see them behind the counter with the container of green salad that I asked for. How hard is it to scoop it out of the container in to the styrofoam bowl? Although they claim to be closed, they're still selling the dry slices that have been sitting up there for a while. 4 stars for the pizza, came out fresh and piping hot and the cheese was all gooey and melty. Thin crust, very tasty. However, 1 star, if not 0 stars, for the disgusting pasta. We also ordered half ravioli half spaghetti, and it was pretty bad. Hubby pointed out that I could make better pasta in my sleep. Visited Patsy's at the Farmer's Market with my family last week. My son and I ordered a slice of pepperoni each. The slices came out and they were soft, floppy and the dough was completely white and underdone on the bottom. I took one bite and wondered why I even bother breathing air in the morning. I took the slice promptly back, and said, "This isn't cooked enough, the dough on the bottom is white and underdone. Could you throw it back in there?" The guy takes the slice back and I watch them throw it into the oven. About a minute later, he takes it out and puts it on the plate and hands it to me. Now it's soft, floppy, underdone and hot. The guy says "If you need it cooked more, bring it back." Really? I need to bring my food back twice for you to prepare it properly? I ask him what temperature his oven is at. He looks back at it hesitantly and then turns to me with some trepidation and says "550." Why am I not surprised? My son didn't like his slice either; he said the dough tasted funny. I told him it was undercooked. Apparently I live in Selegna Sol, where everything is backwards; indian restaurants don't know how to cook indian food, burger joints can't make a decent burger, and pizza places like this have no clue how to cook a pizza. read more
