This is one of my favorite places to go. The food is incredible. We always get the garlic bread even though they give you free bread because it's THAT good (toasted with cheese, pesto and garlic cloves). I personally LOVE the Mama Mia (and get extra sauce on the side because it is fantadtic), and my wife is a big fan of the chicken marsala. I went to this eatery Saturday for the first time. I sat at the bar and the young lady and gentleman behind the bar were great. A chianti being marked as new was very good but that is were it ended. I ordered pasta (sketti). The pasta was under cooked. They served it within 5 minutes of my order(strange). The meatballs like the sauce were mediocre. What surprised me this so-called Italian place was the first one to serve pasta without any type of bread product. I understand that i am a bit spoiled because of my Italian grandmother (nonna) but I have never not gotten a slice bread of bread or roll. Please understand I have been in Italian eateries from San Francisco to New York. I guess if you want real Italian Casconi's on N.Oak in KC is still the best. read more

We met Martha and Rick here for dinner tonight. It wouldn't have been our first or even second choice, based on our last experience, but when they suggested it we agreed because the primary point was to see them. We were seated first at a booth, but requested a table because of Alan's back. Fortunately a table had just been vacated, so they quickly cleaned it off and seated us there. We were given menus and drink orders were taken. Rick and Martha ordered a bottle of wine, I ordered a Bombay Sapphire martini and Alan first ordered a Boulevard Wheat beer, but when the taps were reported by our server to be malfunctioning, switched to a margarita. Our server told us the evening's specials. We decided to split an order of calamari among us because we'd liked it last time. Alan and Rick both ordered sea bass, Martha ordered salmon and I ordered one of the evening's specials, a surf and turf combination, which came w/ a ribeye steak, two small crab cakes, carrots and leeks cooked together and potato croquettes. Our server volunteered that we were welcome to substitute anything, so I switched the croquettes for asparagus. I really appreciated that flexibility. Alan and I ordered spinach salads and Martha and Rick ordered Caesars. The calamari was very good. My martini was a generous pour and was tasty. Alan was unimpressed w/ the margarita. Focaccia was served w/ olive oil and balsamic and was good, better than last time. The salads were fresh, flavorful and well sized. My dish was terrific, the silver dollar sized crab cakes very good, as was the steak. The only odd bit was that I was not given a steak knife, but the steak was so tender I could cut it easily w/ my butter knife, so no harm done. The accompanying vegetables were flavorful. Everyone else liked his or her dish. We finished off by splitting a brownie wrapped in phyllo and topped w/ ice cream, as Rick's birthday is Wednesday. It was rich and satisfying. Service was deft and graceful, very different from our last time here. Two different managers checked on how we'd liked our meals and we could honestly say we had enjoyed them. You all are smoking dank with your pallid "3 stars." WTF? This restaurant is the bomb-dig-a-tay. Not only is it 10 mins BY FOOT from my folks' place, but it's also some of the best eye-talian food you'll find. Period. Their shrimp rocks, and you don't' hear that often as it just sounds totally weird. Yes, rockin' shrimp. Check your taste buds, fellow yelperz. We have gpne to Paulo and Bills many times usually enjoying their spinach salad and Chicken Marsals. Last night out meal was miserable. we gave a party there for 25 people in the private room. It was the very best party we have ever given. The servers were absolutely right on with everything and without disturbing conversations. We had selected certain menu items for our guests as well as wine and appetizer was given to everyone as a special printed menu. We never felt rushed and EVERYONE enjoyed their meals which were served as ordered and hot. This is the very best place for a quiet dinner or for a great dinner party. read more

Normally we enjoy coming here for brunch and food is always great but today's experience was disappointing to say the least. We had a table on the patio reserved and upon arrival they took us to a table and asked us to put together two tables so we can be seated. Not sure that work is to be done by patrons. Additionally it started raining so we were not offered alternatives and finally took it upon ourselves to walk in. There was a table available but they had an issue with us sitting there for 5 minutes to finish our meal. They were in rush to give us our ticket but had no concern completing the service. We had lunch in the middle of the afternoon, so during the non-busy hours, but the service was slow and inefficient. I am gluten free so of course asked about their gluten free options. It does say on their menus with a "GF" next to gluten free items and you can substitute gluten free noodles for the pasta. I chose the Gluten free chicken entree, not only was it a mediocre meal it also made me sick. I eat out on a regular basis sticking to the restaurants gluten free options, I do not have problems eating out. Therefore whatever they thought was gluten free about this chicken entree my stomach is alarming me that it's obviously not Gluten free. The small group I was with order the calamari appetizer and pasta entrees which they all agreed was mediocre food at best. I look forward to trying new restaurants but this was the worst restaurant I have tried all year. read more

Paulo and Bill is a place that I had always intended on going to, but somehow had never gotten there. This past Saturday we decided to meet a friend and his new girl at Paulo and Bill's and I was very pleased with the experience. The building is very unique for the area and the ambiance is very classy. Looking at the menu, I was looking to eat something light, so I ordered the lemon tilapia. I was not expecting anything spectacular, given that it was tilapia after all, and I could not have been more mistaken. The tilapia was in a delicious lemon butter sauce and cooked with a crispy flair on the bottom. In short, this was the best meal I have had from a restaurant in KC in 2012. I will be back, this was better than I expected, and I expected a pretty good meal. read more

My husband I keep giving Paulo and Bill's another try because it is convenient to our home. We were so disappointed on our last visit we won't be back-there are two many other restaurants that would appreciate our business who serve a quality product at a value price. Here's the skinny on our experience: Eggplant appetizer-unripened tomatoes were the key component to the dish that made it a big 'miss'... Our $12 salad was missing key components-artichoke hearts and parmesan. Of course no one checked with us to see how the appetizer or salad were meeting our expectations. Entree- we split a Pizza. No complaints on the Pizza quality, but size and price were not congruent. Dessert? Phyllo Brownie was nothing short of disgusting... brownie was mushy and undercooked... very disappointing.... read more

One of our go-to neighborhood places. We have been about 10-20 times in the last two years and have never been disappointed. They frequently have coupons in the saver mailer which makes it even more a place for us to visit as we are on a budget but still enjoy the finer places. We've done the Sunday brunch, the happy hour, lunch and dinner. I am not a fan of the bread or dip they bring to the table but that's just a personal preference and everyone is different. My favorite dish is the pecan crusted salmon and it's always hard to say no to the Phyllo dessert. We have never really had a bad experience. read more

Dropped in on Friday night as the lasagna has always been a favorite. The experience wasn't what we expected. Service has dropped as the server was very indifferent to our presence, took an extra long time to place the order and then had to ask twice for bread with the salad. While the lasagna met expectations, the bow tie pasta was runny and lacking flavor..the chicken was more like pulled pork in texture. The decor is very dated and our booth in the lounge had tears and rips in it. My husband, little boy and I ate here for brunch. The service was excellent and very attentive. We were very impressed with the variety of food options. They had ham, prime rib, bacon, sausage, Mac-n-cheese, green beans, homemade biscuits/gravy, scalloped potatoes, some sort of delicious chicken in a sauce, eggs, pizza, lasagna, brownies, carrot cake, cookies, cheese cake, bagels, salmon, chocolate fountain with variety of dippers, strawberry shortcake and so much more. My husband and I ate at Paolo and Bill last night -- expensive mediocrity. We've had better food at less expensive restaurants. The bread for the dipping sauce was dry, almost as if it was several days old. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm, grainy, dry and tasteless. The Marsala chicken was just OK. We definitely wouldn't recommend the spaghetti and meatballs unless you like your sauce thick, pasty, too sweet and over seasoned. The environment was extremely noisy; so much so, it was hard to hear each other across the table without almost shouting. Our only compliment is for our server. She was gracious and considerate; bringing out roasted new potatoes to substitute for the mashed potatoes. All in all, service is a 5; the food is a 1. You get a 2 thanks to the service. read more

Disappointed yet again. The food is mediocre, over priced and wondering where on earth they find such abysmal servers. We eat out several time per week because of demanding work and travel schedules, live close so occasionally we decide to try P and B's one more time and see if perhaps things have changed , however, we won't again, it has not. We went tonight wanting to sit on the patio, enjoy a nice dinner and drinks and our experience was the worst we've had in a long time. We were apprehensive to request a replacement meal when the one we ordered wasn't edible and left feeling ripped off. The server acted as though he was doing us a favor by reducing the meal in half that we didn't eat-and stated numerous times how much the staff enjoyed eating the meal we sent back. Had brunch this morning and it was great! After missing Coyote Grill's amazingly great southwest brunches from years ago and, most recently, Yahooz brunch, we drove the 15 miles to get some PB&J fare. Not quite as good as the other two, but I'll take it. Getting bored with the mediocre brunch buffets around town and this was well worth the drive. The quality and variety of the food was excellent. Can't beat the tasty mimosas and Bloody Marys either. We will definitely be back! read more

My husband and I have been going to Paulo and Bills for 7 years. Convinent location from our home, sometimes we go twice a week. my biggest turn off is....that the two owners have never once introduced their self, not a hello nice to see you again, thank you for coming in. Nothing, very disappointed. The food portions for the price is very disappointing. Hardly authentic Italian restaurant. First of all, children don't like spicy sausage meatballs, so is your sauce for a kids. Second, your happy hour drinks specials stick. Moijto? Really? Yuk! We have been going for location a two great bartenders that know are names and acknowledge us, thanks Angela and Ashley. Good luck to you both. This place is fantastic not just for the food but also for the service! We just moved to Lenexa so we are trying all the restaurants in our area. We have been here once for dinner and the food was great! We knew we would be back again. The next time we came was just for desserts ( I had a craving for the filo brownie. It is truly amazing!). We got there around 8 and the place was mostly empty which was to be expected for a Monday night. After we got our order the place got busy and our poor server was slammed. I went to ask the bartender for our check since I could see he was busy and we had to leave. She left and got the manager who was very apologetic and comped our desserts for having to wait. Our wait was only about 15 minutes and they were very busy right before closing but they were so incredibly nice about us having to wait for our check. We will definitely be coming back to this restaurant frequently. Great food and great service! read more

Great lasagna and salads. We used the restaurant for an off-site meeting and had them cater. The food was fresh and tasty. I highly recommend using them as caterers for an event. Next time we are in the area we will pay the restaurant a visit. The focaccia bread was particularly good. The meat lasagna had a good balance of red sauce, cheese and meat. I hadnt been to Paulo and Bills in over 10 years. Its great to see that what wasnt broke hasnt been fixed. Still as good as ever, wonderful specials, desserts were great, appetizer wonderful. The server was even too good...a little overly anxious, but thats ok. We had the calimari, the bow ties, and the sea bass special, followed by the phyllo and semi fredo. Both were awesome.
