    Shrimp and Grits
    Tawny M.

Back again, this time for dinner. We had the burger and I ordered the shrimp and grits. Service was a little on the slower side but just as friendly. The grits were very flavorful, I would suggest a higher quality shrimp be used. But with the value and flavor this place is a must visit

Paul's Restaurant has renewed my faith in the long forgotten diners of the past.....classic interior, excellent breakfast and lunch. I'm told they now have a dinner service...I will experience soon.....HOWEVER...Paul's coffee program is top notch!!!!! (and yes I mean every exclamation mark). In collaboration with Compass Coffee, Paul's has a special blend of their own. Roasty, full mouth silky, slightly nutty with a subtle deep background chocolate smell and taste. Not sure of the exact blend. Our host Tim can fill you in if needed. It is goooooood. You will not go wrong with a good cup of Paul's Blend...it will give any rival a run for their money.

My wife and I noticed that Paul's restaurant had reopened with new owners. We decided we'd give it a try for breakfast. I'm glad we did. It's simple good clean food made from scratch. The waitress said everything is from scratch at the restaurant with a few exceptions which are sourced from local producers. I love, corn, beef, hash, I love a big greasy messy pile of corn beef hash. But I also love good clean simple food that is not greasy. That's how the corn beef hash at Paul's . No caned corned beef hash, it's the real thing and it was delicious. I had it with eggs over easy, they were cooked perfectly. My wife always ask if a restaurant makes their own biscuits, turns out they do a Paul's and they are delicious. I added one to my order and I am so glad I did. Oh, I almost forgot, I got the homemade peach cobbler to go. I'm a happy boy. My wife had something called the green goddess omelette. Sounds like a veggie sort of thing and not my style....Wait...she might read this...Of course I jest, I love to eat vegetables. She said it was delicious and even suggested I try a bite. I smiled politely, she's so cute. Prices seem on par with most other restaurants in the neighborhood, though I don't eat at them all. So that's a guess I guess. The food was very good and everything was clean. Weight staff was professional and really delightful. We now we have a new restaurant to add to our stable of favorites. They're new, give them a try. Paul's is at 1800 Broadway in the couve; corner of Broadway and McLaughlin. Right now the hours are 7 AM to 2 PM open for breakfast and lunch. They're gonna open soon and they'll be extending their hours soon also.

What a find! This restaurant makes all their food from scratch and is very fresh. The coleslaw was unbelievable, the macaroni and cheese was delicious, I had fish and chips, and the batter was nice and crispy, and the homemade rosemary dressing on the salad was yummy and the Service .... Lois was excellent and I even met Paul! I highly recommend this restaurant. Next time I'm going back to get the meatloaf... Or maybe that turkey burger with goat cheese... Yum.

Service was great, food was simple and greasy and I loved it. So far the best biscuits and gravy in the 'Couv.

This is an old school local diner, not high end. The staff is efficient, and they know how to cook eggs to order. Very reasonable prices.

The area has developed quickly and having grown up nearby and moved away years ago, it's amazing to see what's happened along here. Prices - well, everyone has their hand out along here. We were in town somewhat last minute staying at Hotel Indigo. The hotel provides $10 drink coupons so we decided to drop in for an impromptu drink while planning our dinner strategy. It was already 7p so no view but live music and a nice buzzy ambiance. Wait staff were fast and friendly, and before we knew it two delicious cocktails were in front of us. At the same time, I overheard the waitress at the table beside us saying that food could be ordered from El Gaucho downstairs. So we asked for a menu and started perusing. If you don't know El Gaucho it's a classic steak restaurant with lots of cuts and sizes, a sprinkling of seafood, the usual salads, and tableside this and that. A notch above Ruth's Chris, Morton's or The Capital Grille but with Peter Luger Manhattan prices. Yes, that's right, Manhattan prices in Vancouver. WA. The Couv is all grown up. Or at least trying to be, Like Witness Tree, El Gaucho has a mandatory 20% gratuity regardless of party size. Theoretically this shouldn't be an issue if you know restaurant culture and tip appropriately but I think a mandatory fee rubs many wrong to assume service will always be at that level. And on top of very high prices. A $72 6oz filet is $86, so those 8 bites better be damn good. That said, we ordered oysters, a filet, seafood pasta, and wine. The wine list was decent but not as extensive for a premium steak restaurant. Wines had the typical markup which meant $20-35+ per glass. Both the pasta and steak were good but - and this may sound picky - at $72 for 6 ounces of steak (a bar of soap) I expect perfection which means medium rare throughout. The steak was medium in some parts. If I can achieve medium rare throughout at home it should be possible here. So here's the math (rounded) for those interested. Total bill: $295. $225 food and drinks, $45 service fee (mandatory 20%), and $24 tax (8.8%). Interestingly, the 20% service charge is taxed which means we actually paid $49 or 28.8%. Had I been given the choice of my own 20% tip it would be applied to food and drink and a slightly lower bill. Not a huge deal but these are the little details - call it "nickel and diming" patrons - that rub many wrong. One note - another server came to our table before our food arrived and placed a steak in front of me. Before he could place the other dish I told him it wasn't our order. He picked up the steak and delivered to another table. In most restaurants - and certainly in a premium setting - that dish should have been remade. Whether perception or simple hygiene you simply can't do that. All in all, the Witness Tree was a nice spot, with tasty cocktails and ambiance. Prices and service fee will be off putting for some, and not sure this would be my go-to as there are many rooftop / view options nearby.

Bright, lively, good music, FANTASTIC food, EXCELLENT drinks, fun servers... yassss kweeen! We happened upon Coral Club at the recommendation of a friend about a year ago. Their food is solid. We've done the Shrimp Skewer, Lumpia, Coral Platter, and Lava Fries. They were DELISH! My gang tried the Spam Musubi... I wasn't brave enough, but they loved it! We wanted a drink and bite before thrifting and going to the book store. One other couple was inside. Waiter was nice but not hospitable. The ambiance is amazing - 10/10 love the vibe and decor. I ordered a drink of the mixed drinks and my husband got a margarita. The drink was so bad - neither one of us could drink it. I don't think I've ever returned a drink I can't pound before haha. It was 10 minutes before I went home to the bar to ask for something different - no one came by to ask how things were. The guava choice I picked for the second - not good. Watered down flavors of who knows. The drinks at Wahi Hanna are amazing in comparison - especially with the Dole Whip vibe. The spam fries were $9 for half a can of spam cut up and put in the oven with a side of mayo? The loco moco was promising but tasted like something you'd get at Kenjis - not a Hawaiian spot. I feel like with a lot of tweaks in flavor - this could be a great spot.

We arrived right at 12 p.m., and many buffet items were already empty or close to empty -- smoked salmon, oysters, salad plates, and several other dishes. We waited thinking the food would be quickly replenished, but restocking was consistently slow throughout the entire meal. Even after multiple reminders, they would only bring out very small amounts at a time despite long lines of guests waiting. To their credit, the ambiance was nice. The Mother's Day decorations, live music, and small bracelet gift were thoughtful touches. However, the food quality and service simply did not justify the cost. At $100 per person plus service fees (close to $600 total excluding tips for our group of four), we expected a much more organized and well-stocked brunch experience. The most surprising part was that a steakhouse buffet didn't even include steak. Sadly, this experience made us question whether we'd return for their regular dining service.
