The Thai noodles were so delicious do not skip these! The sandwiches from the fridge were decent and had a generous amount of meat which was nice. The cashier was very friendly and helpful, she actually recommended the Thai noodles and I'm so glad she did. We sat outside with all the peacocks which made it such a nice experience. We wanted to grab some food at the Arboretum and saw they had a small cafe. Guarded by a few peacocks out front, it's no wonder they call it the Peacock Cafe. I was surprised that the food was actually pretty good, especially for a restaurant inside a botanic garden. These are the items I tried: Hamburger & Fries - A classic, and they actually made it really well. Sauced up and seasoned nicely. I'd rate this better than some fast food joints. Solid crispy fries. (4.5/5) California Melt Sandwich - This would be a 5/5, but the second half of my sandwich had really dry chicken that was almost inedible. The flavors were good though. For the half where the chicken was moist, it was a solid sandwich. (4/5) Baldwin Grilled Cheese Sandwich - This was a loaded grilled cheese and it was delicious. Basically a classic grilled cheese with bacon, tomatoes, and avocado. It wasn't too heavy or greasy, and I would get this again. (4.5/5) If you're looking for a quick bite at the Arboretum, this place is definitely worth checking out. Restroom: Not in the shop, but there's a restroom area not to far from the place Credit Cards: Credit cards are accepted Location/Parking: Located in the Aboretum. Only way to patronize the shop is only if you have a ticket. Parking can be found in the private lot of the Aboretum. Ambiance/Decor: Neat wooden interior with AC. They also have an outdoor patio to get some sun rays and to look at the male peacocks shake their tailfeathers. Service: For the most part, staffers provide pretty good service and food doesn't take long to get to our table. Food Of Choice: I usually get the Baldwin Grilled Cheese Sandwich (avocado, tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon) and the California Melt (grilled sourdough bread, muenster cheese, lettuce, tomato, mild ortega chili, and char grilled chicken breast. This cafe is located inside the Los Angeles Arboretum near the front entrance. You may ask, "why is it called Peacock Cafe?"...the peacocks like to wonder around the patio while you are eating. *They are harmless...this is an every day occurrence here:) They offer plenty of inside & outside seating serving breakfast and lunch only. They have "to go" sandwiches & salads, as well as made to order items. I was a little bummed that they stop serving the "Breakfast Burrito & French Toast," after 10:30 am. It was freshly grilled, with a good size piece of chicken breast, a slice of tomato, fresh leafy lettuce and a thin slice of grilled jalepeno. It has the right proportion of egg, potatoes and bacon. Their salsa Verde gives the right kick to the flavorful Burritos.I always crave their Burritos .They have many delicious food in their menu. They also have available ready made sandwich, croissants, Bagels, salads and desserts too. I love also their freshly baked cakes, danish pastries, scones and cookies. We had fun trying to take pics of them and they would walk and turn around. You'd have to wait for them to turn facing you. They have breakfast and lunch items such as Breakfast burritos, French toast, yogurt parfait, sandwiches, salads, hamburger/cheeseburger with fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, iced coffee and more. Some items are in their grab & go packaged refrigerated section. We tried their breakfast burritos, cheeseburger with fries and iced coffee. The breakfast burrito is tasty and filling. I would have liked more than one small green salsa. They didn't haven't any more available. I couldn't believe it! Most places give you multiple salsas. The cheeseburger with fries was yummy. Walking along the gardens of the Arboretum, I saw the Peacock Cafe. It has the perfect name, as peacocks roam about freely. The location is great for anyone needing a cold/hot beverage or meal. There are ready-made sandwiches and salads to buy without waiting for a special order. If you choose, though, you can order a freshly made breakfast burrito, juicy hamburger, or soup and salad. Ordered the seasonal fruit for $6.50 (3.5/5): pretty expensive for fruit and the cantaloupe and honeydew were not very yummy but the watermelon and pineapples were super sweet and juicy which was perfect after a long hot day walking around the Arboretum. Overall (3/5): Closed at 4pm which felt a bit early considering it would have been nice to be able to relax inside for a bit longer after such a long hot day. Lots of other food and beverage options that are all relatively marked up which is kind of expected but still unfortunate since the Arboretum doesn't allow outside food which makes this the only option. read more

So thankful there was an air conditioned area to stop and take a break, after a few hours of walking about the Arboretum itself. Lots of cold drink choices in standing refrigerator cases, plus cold prepared sandwiches and wraps. There was coffee service but no ice slush drinks - there was a group of schoolchildren on a field trip today so they must have used it all up! We got it to split as a snack halfway through our park visit. It held us over until we left the park for lunch. We were there for about 5 hours. Tortilla chips, nacho cheese, grilled chicken, corn, onion, and a chipotle drizzle. Not bad. This was one of the specials that day so not sure if they have it normally. You order inside and bring your number to you table. They bring out your order when it's ready. I suggest sitting in the outdoor dining area. We saw a a couple peacocks pass through while eating. Food is decent, but is expensive, like every other place. People are nice, and helpful. And its locate near the entrance, by the library. My only issue is, there have been signs posted to not feed the animals, and people do. And no one goes to let those people know, that there is no feeding of the animals. It used to be, you could bring in a loaf of bread, literally any size loaf, and you could sit there all day, just to feed the geese, ducks, fish, and turtles. But those days are unfortunately long gone, more for the animals safety than anything else. read more

WOW! What an amazing experience! This is located inside the LA Arboretum so you will need to pay for tickets to go inside but it is so worth it! You will be able to sit with many peacocks and enjoy the view, outside scenery, and your food. You may be greeted by a peacock by the door and blocking the entrance but it's a great sight to see! The cafe is from 9-4 pm with outdoor seating. We ordered the veggie burger with fries, coffee, hamburger, and the sourdough chicken sandwich. They were so delicious!!! Oh my, it was tasty and the veggie burger- I could not stop eating that! The fries was so crispy and soft on the inside. THE BEST FRIES THAT I HAVE EVER HAD! I would def go back! Amazing service, great food. It's rare to find great food at a park cafe but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of everything I got. Ambiance is beautiful and peaceful, peacocks walking around the patio while you eat is so fun to watch. I got a fruit cup and everything in it was ripe and sweet, even the watermelon. The sandwich I got (California melt) had very fresh ingredients. I swear I'm leaving this review with my full integrity. The only reason I give this 4 stars is the coffee was not great, it's premade (out of a machine). If the owners decided to get an espresso machine and did in-house fresh coffee and tea, maybe got some baristas in there for some lattes (because I'm a coffee girl) I'd easily give it five stars. It'd generate more money for the Arboretum too. Nonetheless, everyone working Saturday morning around 10:30am was absolutely amazing and had great people skills/customer service. read more

Since the Arboretum doesn't allow any outside food and drinks and picnicking is banned it was nice to find the prices of food at their cafe still affordable (under $10) since they have a monopoly. I really enjoyed the half grilled cheese and tomato soup. The soup came out piping hot and had little raviolis in it, hit the spot on a what would be considered a cold for Southern California day. The fries included in their combos are also delicious, fried crispy it's a good portion that will leave you full. If you sit outside be aware of the peacocks that have no fear roaming around, they are used to humans but please do not feed them as it's detrimental to their health. It might be tempting to feed the critters for photo taking but there are multiple signs around the park and in different languages saying not to. Even the decor is charmingly peacock themed. I found the metal woven seats to be uncomfortable and can only imagine that after an extended period of sitting will give you a waffle like imprinted butt. Fast service you order at the counter and give you a number so that they can bring the food out to you later. This is a surprisingly affordable cafe at the Arboretum. We are frugal and picky about food, so we tend to pack lunches on outings. With the beautiful setting within the gardens, with peacocks strutting in and out, with the quick and convenient service, this was extremely reasonable.
