I've been a big fan of the Pecking House Fried chicken ever since they opened their location in Flatbush so color me surprised and giddy when I heard that they would open a location in Chinatown while simultaneously lowering prices. They finally opened late September and I got a Salted Egg Yolk half chicken as well as a 2 piece chili crunch cauliflower combo with a side of glazed turnips with miso butter. My initial surprise was the change in presentation from the other location. Initially they fry each piece individually so there's more surface area that gets that crunch and delicious saucey coating but this time it was served as a quarter leg and a breast-wing. The salted egg yolk coating was also darker than I was used to it being. The taste itself is pretty close to what I'm used to but there's not as much of that salted egg yolk taste on the chicken and the chili crunch isn't as spicy either. The initial product itself is super delicious so a slight downgrade in terms of flavor and texture means it's still pretty damn good overall though. The glazed turnips with miso butter are okay but honestly, not really my cup of tea haha. Overall, the chicken is still pretty good, but I think I prefer the other location's preparation better. I think this location is still figuring out preparation methods so I'm curious to see how thing will be after they're open a while. read more

Heard that a new Pecking House location opened in Chinatown so I watched the video of Eric Huang on youtube and the very next day went to try it. I believe I went the first or second week it opened so it wasn't too too crowded. The chicken sandwich was very good-- flavorful, crispy, and not too oily which I appreciated. The classic sesame bun is a good base for this since the chicken is pretty large and it needs some weight to the bread. Definitely want to try the mapo tofu sandwich next time! Came here as a group of three at 12pm on a Sunday and was able to get a table pretty easily. The space is small and there started to be a line at around 12:30pm, so I would get here when it opens. Service was super friendly and welcoming. We ordered the chili chicken sando, the salted egg yolk wings, the miso turnips, and the cornbread. Everything was delicious and tasty, but my favorite was the chili chicken sando. The chicken in the sando was juicy on the inside but crunchy on the outside, and had a hint of the numbing effect from the szechuan peppercorn. The bread was nice and soft, and the sandwich was also balanced nicely by the pickles. It wasn't super spicy. The salted egg yolk wings were also really good and very unique. The chicken's excellent, though it's sweeter than I remember from back when it was in Bayside during the C19 era. Their salted egg yolk flavor was unique, and I thought it was better than their chili. Their extra hot flavor is their chili, except with more Scovilles. The green garlic sauce was delicious, but the side hot sauce was mediocre. I don't think the chicken needs the extra sauce, so it seems more for fries than the chicken itself. Looked over menu and ordered Chinatown sandwich and chicken salt fries. The prices weren't cheap. But in present climate nothing is cheap. The chicken sandwich was very good with boneless thighs. The bun and toppings made it very enjoyable. The fries were also very good. One of the things I love the most. Is when the fries are not soggy. Here at Pecking House the fries were firm and seasoned well. My order was pickup and ready when I arrived. The worker behind counter was very friendly. The place is off the beaten path right under Manhattan bridge. Plenty of local transit hubs close by with small walk to store. read more

It's definitely a tight spot! There is no restroom, which they have posted on the door as well. The female employee working was very nice and polite! I ordered a quarter chicken with garlic and herb seasoning ($9), the chili chicken sando ($14), and cornbread ($6). The quarter chicken was a lot larger than I expected and I was glad they gave the option of white or dark meat. I loved the garlic and herb seasoning! Highly recommend!!! I was told the spice level of the chili chicken sandwich was comparable to sriracha so I took a chance trying it. It was a bit too much for me but found it to be more tolerable when I ate the rest of it cold later in the day. The cornbread was a nice add on. Came here to grab a snack with a friend and to try out their fried chicken which I heard great things about. It was very small hole in the wall. I hate to kick a place when it's down but I just paid 25 dollars for a meal here and the only edible thing was the white rice. I walk into this place and get blasted on the face with an uncomfortable heat, there is no air conditioning in this tiny, I'll designed place. I order a set chili chicken keg quarters, some white rice, and some overpriced juice drink since I was ordering to go and what seating was available was taken by some eager diners suffering in the heat to eat this stuff. I get the food and discover that the privilege of having a knife and fork is reserved for those who dine in, as the only silverware available was metal. I grab a pair of chopsticks and head out to eat in the summer air, setting up shop in a nearby bus stop bench. I open my package to see a giant spab leg quarter, bone in. After letting it set for a short time I took a bite into a steaming, slimey piece of drum stick meat. The fried coating came undone easily and had a soap like flavor to it. The chicken was cooked to temp but it wasn't cooked *enough*. All the fats and sinews were intact to the point of it being inedible. I discarded it. Heard about Pecking House for a long time and excited to check out their newly opened location in Chinatown. Be sure to read the menu as they have different chicken flavors, cuts, meal combos, and side options. Out of all the chicken I tried today, my favorite was the blackened chicken sandwich, although the chili chicken was a close second! The blackened chicken sandwich was generously coated in a charred chili sauce and served with a thick layer of cheese and pickled jalapenos. The combination of flavors were delicious, and the ratio of ingredients appropriate. They give you a good chunk of tender meat! The chili chicken was super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The sauce featured familiar sichuan spicy pepper flavors without being too spicy. It was a little too sweet for my partner, but I think the sweetness level was appropriate. We did wish it was slightly more salty to balance out the other flavors, but overall we were dipping the sauce left and right. Even the reheated leftovers still retained the flavor and tenderness! I'm a big salted egg yolk girlie and their version was yummy with a hint of garlic/pepper flavors, but I felt like the chili versions provided more contrast in flavors. For sides, the sesame kale salad was solid and the cucumber was refreshing in this creamy ginger sauce. The store itself only has about 4 tables without any waiting area. Got two orders of leg quarters, one with salted egg yolk and one with chili oil, the salted egg yolk was reminiscent of the salted egg yolk fried pumpkin you might find at a chinese restaurant, the chili oil had a mild numbing heat and a ton of spice and flavor, the chicken itself was super crispy and juicy. the interior was pretty small and only had a few tables, ice water is self serve and they have gloves to avoid a messy cleanup, service was quick and staff were super friendly read more
