Pecks has a good, classic NY coffee shop vibe with some bespoke options like cans of craft beer. They have a massive selection of sweet biscuits, muffins, and croissants. For lunch, they have tasty jewish deli style sandwiches with a gourmet twist (and price point). They also have some prepared foods like quinoa salad, matzo ball soup, and coleslaw. Those are fine but not the best value. Places like Choice Market are much more affordable with their prices and portions. Another deterrent is that they don't provide wifi. They direct you to use spectrum to sign up for a free 30-minute trial, which is a hassle. But they do have a punch card program where you get a free coffee after every ten coffees purchased. Love that. Also the staff at Pecks is wonderful and they deserve lots of good tips. read more

It's a shame that I didnt get to relish in the taste of their sandwiches. Because while a few people along with myself were waiting in pure eagerness to order, a female staff came behind the counter and pulled the sandwich menu off the wall. When it was my turn to order, I was perplexed but rather hopeful. I asked the million dollar question, "Can I order a sandwich? I know exactly what I want." The male staff was a bit sympathetic but appeared to be under massive pressure because it was packed with people and many orders were probably pending. The male staff answered, sadly, "No, our chef is totally backed up with many food orders. We cant take any sandwich orders at the moment." My next question wouldve been a suggestion; why not have the female staff (who pulled the menu off the wall) help the chef? I mean, just saying. Or just hire a second chef. I had some suggestions that could've been helpful. I nodded slightly with a tight smile, "No problem." I shouldve just walked the hell out but obviously I still wanted to give this place a chance so I ordered a matcha tea. I meant to say latte but I was disappointed that I couldn't order my sandwich. So I paid 4.50 (4.50?!) on a matcha tea that I could've made at home. The tea was okay but it wasn't my favorite cup of tea. If there are more than 2 people in line, it will probably be 10 minutes before someone behind the counter is ready to pour a cup of coffee for you. If there are 3+ people in line, the customer better have something to read. The line is so slow, you should put a phone charging station there. Convenient bakery with secret beer trove in the back! My cold brew was a bit bitter ($3.50), but the black and white cookie made up for it in its classical sweetness. The vast majority of beers in the back fridge were Evil Twin Brewing Company, but luckily their beer is good and has a lot of variety. It's a cute little coffee shop but so much more. As soon as you walk in they have these huge flaky croissants and muffins that look delicious. It all looks so fresh and clean. I didn't get any food but I did get their coffee. Their coffee is actually great. It's strong and hot which I find important, no one wants cold hot coffee. Their ice coffee is smooth and delicious. I wanted to like this place. I really did. While occasionally Peck's has incredible breakfast sandwiches (more on this below), the majority of their products and the overall experience is pretty mediocre. The food: The coffee and espresso are bad. Like solidly bad, and almost always burnt. The iced coffee is fairly good. The sandwiches: IF you have a lot of time (15+ minutes) and the right guy is working (black, has his hair back, apple headphones in), the sandwiches are delicious. They're SUPER overpriced but really solid. If anyone else is working or you're in a rush, don't even bother. I've had them mess up my order (after verifying multiple times), take 45 minutes with no one else in the store, and forget items repeatedly. It's almost shocking how bad they can be. The pastries are fine, sort of hit or miss. The service: Bad. The people who work the cash register are passive aggressive and get really stressed if there's ever more that a few people in line. They're also just generally not very efficient. The space: Good! They have lots of overpriced trendy food products, the inside is sort of tight with some bar seating, and they have a really pleasant back yard. read more

My old go-to when I was going to school down the street. Despite there being a cafe closer to my school, I would always try to leave my house early so I could get the *infinitely* better coffee and pastries at Peck's. Went to Peck's for the first time the other day with a friend to get a late breakfast. I was really excited because soon after we ordered there was a line of 10+ people out the door on the sidewalk, which rose my expectations. I got an iced chai and the Mexican breakfast sandwich. The chai was pretty good and the sandwich was also good but really messy. We sat outside and ate our sandwiches in the cute backyard. They started super mediocre serving me salty chocolate chip cookies that were hard, a weak chai lattes that was way too hot, a bland Americano, but a good macchiato. Pecks couldn't be more overrated when it comes to coffee shops. However! The gimmicks keep this place alive. It has a cute European vibe selling cheeses, breads, pre made meals (that are way overpriced) beer on tap, beer in the fridge, and a chef that sure puts his foot in his food! Yes, it's bougie and precious as hell and Spike Lee probably hates it but you know what? Their dark chocolate chip cookie with sea salt is so goddam delicious that I had to stop everything I was doing and write this review while half of it was still in my hand. Plus, the staff are sweet and the cortados are bitterly magnificent and the muffins somehow retain the good crunchy part from the top all the way around the sides, and everything I've tasted to far has been a hit. Most of the prepared foods are prohibitively expensive for me, but it is definitely the best coffee I've had in the hood (and I think I've had it all) and I hope Peck's sticks around. I'd visited a few times when it opened, and remembered it had brats and poutine. They updated their menu but kept somewhat outrageous prices. I normally would never pay $12 for 6 meatballs to be heated up, or $8 for a small lukewarm matzo ball soup with half-cooked carrots. I was with a friend, and didn't want to be fussy, but I knew it was trouble when I walked in. There, you can pay $8 for 1.5 cup of raw kale sprinkled with cheese, or you can walk across the street and buy two organic bunches then bring it home. I suspect that each crouton on my soup would be a dollar each if they had to chance to price it. Good luck, I'm sure new residents and Airbnb guests with cash to carelessly burn on mediocre food will still patron this place. My friends and I, not so much. read more

I go to Peck's often and it's one of my favorite coffee/breakfast spots in the area. Usually the staff is friendly and the service is decently quick, but then once in awhile I'll go in there and the staff is in a bad mood and it'll take 15-20 minutes to get an iced latte. I stood at the counter for 15 minutes one time while people who ordered after me were getting their coffee, and when the woman who took my order asked me to remind her what I was waiting on I told her and all she said was "coming right up". When the barista handed me my coffee she didn't even say anything! No "I'm sorry for the wait" or "here's a punch card for a free coffee next time"... nothing. I would be APPALLED by my staff if I was their manager and they treated customers like that. It's horrible service and honestly disappointing because I love Peck's. Please rethink your system behind the counter, guys!! read more
