Been here a once after wondering what was inside the mysterious bar that has no sign and no advertising. I knew if was a gay bar but always wondered why no advertising?! Turns out it pays homage to a time when gay bars were more hidden in plain sight. Anyways the bar is more of a hangout for older men but there's also a younger crowd too. The place is huge with a larger outdoor deck area (closes early) and plenty of room inside. The drinks here were mega cheap with a pitcher of Sierra Nevada pale ale running $8!! Still a great place with cheap strong drinks and a pretty mixed crowd. Bears, otters, daddies, sons, gays, straight, bi, tranny. You name it, it's here. My only gripe, as usual, is that it gets way too busy on weekends. In the past, there has been a line to get out on the patio. Last time we went, there was a line outside to get in! Glad to see they're doing decent business though, I suppose I'm a bit impatient, especially when I'm already drunk. read more

This place is hard to find! My uber passed it twice! Once in, the drinks are pretty cheap. Seems to be a good bear/cub bar. I was there on a Sunday and there was a decent crowd but it took 10 minutes just to get a beer. The bartender didn't talk much and everyone there seemed to be very clickish. My favorite bar in Hillcrest. It's chill, the people are down to earth, and the drinks are strong. (Don't expect fruity, sweet stuff here!)

I live really close to this bar and I like to go once in a while. Every time I've been I get ignored by the bar tenders. Yeah don't look like a bear but I'm still a customer. I hate that even in our own community we are belittled and ignored, and we want the rest of the world to except us. If you don't look like a bear or like you let yourself go don't bother going here. I love it here . It's big spacious and the staff are fast behind the bar as well as very friendly . The bar is really big has a few different rooms and I love that I can move back and forth between the two . The outdoor patio is a nice chill spot . Lots of things do while you hang out here from Pool tables , Dart boards , juke box , & my all time favorite Pinball machine too... Pecs is exactly what it says A MANS BAR!!!!!! but they are friendly to the occasional female that happens to wonder in. Stiff drinks, friendly crowd, pool table, darts, ping-pong, and a great outdoor smoking patio. My third time at pecs and still taking tender steps! I enjoyed my night despite being somewhat of a loner ventruing out for the first time. Words cannot even put into describe my disgust with the treatment I was dealt at this place tonight . I was enjoying myself with a friend of ten years having a drink at the bar when we engaged in less than savory conversation with a man who chimed in to join our conversation. What started as a light-hearted conversation in politics turned very ugly very quickly incited by the bartender Trevor. I refuse to indulge the details since I know most sound-minded people would understand with my disagreement with Trump, but I summarise by saying that it ended up with the other guy trying to justify why all Muslims were our "enemy" and why I as a fourth generation Latino should be grateful to be in a country that allows my kind. Let me not be mistaken when I describe that the person shedding such insults had his own friend shamefully escort him out. He left. We thought it all was a resolved cause. But not for our little bartender Trevor- he would find it appropriate to walk up to me (a THIRTEEN YEAR CUSTOMER) and reprimand me for scaring off "tourists". He would proceed to antagonize me by telling me I should be more "open minded" to other people's views, and then at the height of my fury and disbelief, demanding me to leave. I have never been so insulted in a GAY estashment, I've never been so insulted in a place I've spent insurmountable amounts of my own money, and ive never been so insulted as an AMERICAN. Was in town for a gig with my band and had to investigate San Diego's gay scene. This place sounded like my speed, so I gave it a go. Definitely the right choice on this particular Saturday afternoon! Very friendly and cute barkeep Rod made me feel right at home and not like 'the out of town guy just sitting there feeling out of place'. Didn't get to talk to barkeep Brad out on the patio, but he was also adorable and seemed friendly with everyone. Clientele is actual guys; more in the middle-aged range and not the over-primped, emaciated crowd I'm subjected to in LA. Jukebox kicked out Def Leppard and Weezer, both of which get a big "Yay." outta this guy. Made a few friends here and will certainly make it a necessary stop on my future visits to San Diego. Great place! They serve my favorite beer Stella on tap. They have furry and friendly bartenders. Friday nights are really busy.

It's a decent bar and convenient to where I live if I want to throw back a brew, but some of the bartenders are old and unfriendly. Other than that, I still come frequently for beer and a seedy evening of daddy fun. read more

I was introduced to the wonderful world of Pecs about a year ago and have been back countless times. I've brought most of my friends here at one point. Sometimes it smells, sometimes it's really dark, sometimes the music is weird, but always will you get hammered on their drinks and have a good time. This is definitely a "man's bar", and not some trendy, show-offy, pretentious place for those looking to show off. You can actually meet some cool people here. The bar is a little bit off the main Hillcrest drag, but it's still hard to find parking sometimes especially Thursday - Saturday nights. Check it out...keep an open mind, and you'll like it. read more

Pecs is very much the neighborhood hangout and is great for someone new to the area, gay or straight. You usually don't see too many women although lately that seems to be changing. Drink prices are average for the area but a lot lower than Hillcrest. The new back patio is great but it closes too early therefore forcing a bigger crowd into a much smaller space. It is also not the best place to hold conversations at least at night. read more

The drinks are strong and cheap. Great alternative if you are in the mood up have a drink and not be bother... with the drama of some clubs.

everytime i come here it's SO MUCH FUN! But we also have to take into consideration that I am with all of my gay boyfriends, and they are fun naturally :) But this is an epitome of a "man's bar". Bears are just OOZING in this place. WOOF WOOF! The bartenders have the mentality of "someone is going home with someone tonight!" so they give you hefty mixed drinks and pitchers at a very very very reasonable price. Beware though, on the patio, you might see some heavy petting and touching. BUT ITS ALL IN FUN! ;)~ Everyone talks to everyone here so there's no room to be shy in this place either. I always have a good time at Pecs because great bartenders work there and the drinks are always strong. I usually sit at the bar when I can find a seat and Jasper constantly checks up on me and keeps me entertained. The scenery in the bar can vary, but there are usually a few guys I can find to ogle. It's a great neighborhood bar, but don't go so it won't get too crowded and popular. read more

I must have to say that this bar is really fun. The atmosphere is very cool, you have a very friendly feel to it all. Even thought Pecs is known to be a bar for older men, you get a variety of age groups in there. The drinks are super cheap and after 2 or 3 you will be fine for the rest of the night. Hadn't been here in quite a while (months) but was bar hopping with friends yesterday afternoon (we all had the day off) and they wanted to stop by here. In the years I have lived here I have seen this bar slowly transform from a dark dank bar into a nice neighborhood bar. Most recently they put in an opening and another door behind the main bar out to the patio. What a difference!! One thing that hasn't changed are the drinks! Always good and strong, but you can always ask for a lighter pour! Bravo PECS!! All the changes have been great! read more
