I was biking by and thought a hot beverage sounded nice. Stopped and found out that you have to place an order on the Peet's app to order a drink while things are shut down. Great! Sounds easy! So I downloaded the app, found that you actually have to load money onto a Peet's card to place an order--annoying, but fine--I can manage to drink $25 worth of Peet's lattes at some point. So I used my credit card to load $25 onto the card, selected my beverage, went to check out, and bam--error message telling me that my Peet's card number is invalid. It's now over an hour later and I am STILL trying to order a beverage or get my $25 refunded. (The charge already went through on my credit card.) Tried calling their customer service and waited on hold for 20 min before finally giving up. Had to send an email I can see my $25 in the app. I can see that there's coffee to be had. It's a little bit like standing in front of a vending machine after putting in the only dollar you have, and your bag of chips just won't fall. read more

BEWARE! My wife stopped by to pick up a gift card for the holidays. The cashier scanned the card and proceeded to give her a different card. Fortunately, my wife saw him do it. The other employee was behind him watching the whole thing so we're sure he was in on it. When my wife just stood there with a puzzled look on her face, the cashier finally asked, "did you want a receipt?" She said "yes" and he proceeded to give her an activation receipt but not a receipt for the transaction. She went to her card and started to compare the code on the receipt and the card she was given, all while the cashier was watching her through the window of the cafe. She noticed the numbers didn't match and, when she was about to go back to complain, only then did he come out and say that he had given her the wrong card. If he didn't do it on purpose, then how did he know he had given her the wrong card?!!!!!!!! AND why did he only try to correct the problem when he saw that he had been caught. When she got the replacement card, she immediately called customer service to verify that there were in fact funds available on the card in her possession. When told about the incident, I immediately filed a complaint on the Peet's website. The first response form a customer service rep if my wife did end up receiving the correct card. I responded that yes she did, but there are corrupt employees working at that location. Her only response to that was that she would forward my complaint to the retail management team. I never heard anything after that...which, in my mind, equates to NOTHING is going to be done about it. I would avoid that place. I personally, won't be going back to any Peet's location again. One of my go-to's for coffee! Staff is always so friendly even when there's long lines. Some of my favorites are the Havana cappuccino and vanilla latte. Oh also love the chicken chorizo flat bread. Plenty of parking in the shopping center they're in. read more

I've been really having a crush on Peet's lately! Especially at this location. It's close to me & never crowded in the morning. There can be a lot of people but the staff works quickly and efficiently. Speaking of staff, everyone I've encountered so far has been very accommodating & professional. My drinks are consistently delicious. I typically get the iced havana cappuccino. If you haven't tried yet, you need to! I typically don't like drinks with cinnamon but all the flavors work well together. Parking is super easy in the mornings (just make sure to read the signs). Grossly Under staffed at 6am to 7 am. One person taking orders and one barista not nearly enough to service the area. I stop here now and then for my beans and morning coffee and treat and today I placed my order, got my free small coffee and went to foo-foo it with cream (the creamer bar didn't have any cinnamon or cocoa powder either) and had to go back to the register looking for my beans. He hadn't even ground them yet but was taking other people's orders! Not cool. Isn't it first come first served? Love Peet's in general, but this one is in one of those ugly and cold typical LA style mini-mall places with a huge parking lot (along with a bank, Panera Bread, nail place, Sushi joint, physical therapy...etc. etc.) Pros: Love the coffee here, the best. Staff is generally cheerful and helpful. The ambiance is cool, they have outdoor seating (even though you're basically sitting in the middle of a parking lot.) Cons: 1.) They use an extremely loud vacuum cleaner in the middle of the day repeatedly to clean up while people are inside this tiny place trying to read, study, etc. while enjoying the beverage they just bought here! I have never experienced this kind of bad treatment of one's customers in any coffe shop anywhere in the world (and I've been to a LOT!) One customer actually yelled at one of the guys vacuuming to stop it, she's trying to read! I completely agree with her. Do it after the customers are gone! I pointed this out to the store manager who instructed one of the barristas to not do it while I was there - only for this atrocious practice to return a few days later! Utterly ridiculous and enough for me not wanting to come back here. I want to enjoy my coffee in peace and quiet! Please! 2.) They can't figure out the AC. It's either freezing or hot as hell in here. C'mon people this is the 21st century and this is not rocket science! I never know what to prepare for, should I bring my bathing suit or my fur coat?! (not that I have one.. :-) 3.) There are only a few tables inside to sit at and everyone is fighting to get them. They could easily put more tables inside. 4.) Good service from the peeps at Peet's. They forgot to make a drink and comped one on us. The dude at the counter seemed to know the names of the regulars and greeted them by name. The location is good with ample parking and the store is big enough to accommodate the rush of people during the Javiva happy hour when they are 50% off. Great coffee. The best cup of any chain $2.50 for a large = great value. they open @ 5am. The servers/cashiers here are usually very friendly and always greet people. It's not to long for them to remember the regulars names and be even more friendly. OK teas here are extensive too if you like that kind of thing. Parking can be busy during the week because there is a courthouse in that mall. Fridays is no lawyer day since court is closed so no nubskulls yapping loudly on their phones about the cases. Buy a pound of coffe and get a free cup. They have wifi for customers but you must ask for a code good for one hour. read more

I work at Starbucks so I can tend to have very high expectations and standards but these guys came through with flying colors. As much of a Starbucks fan as I am (being a former Starbs barista), I'll choose Peet's and Coffee Bean over it any day. With Peet's being few and far between, I couldn't resist stopping in. True, I'd had two iced coffees that day and really had to convince myself to want something else but I definitely could have gone for something nonsoda and nonwater. I had a large black tea. I really want to like Peet's. And, in hopes of fulfilling this desire, I have gone to this new location the last two mornings. My reasons for going are thus: 1. it's literally next door to my apartment. 2. my beloved Starbucks that is literally across the street from my apartment is basically impossible to reach in the morning, due to the fact that I have to make no less than five turns to get to it. I know, it makes no sense to me either. 3. Peet's sent me a coupon for a free drink of my choice. 4. the one time I ever wandered into a Peet's, I was horrified/delighted by their selection of pastries. This location is brand-spanking new, the anchor/requisite coffee shop of a shopping center they are remodeling in the Marina. The shopping center is not quite done yet, so I think most people are confused about whether or not it's open yet. IT'S OPEN. Like the only other Peet's I have ever been in, the dcor is lots of dark wood, dark tile, with sort of a faux library thing going on. Seating is only tables and chairs, no soft armchairs, which is a requirement for getting me to stay awhile. Versus Starbucks, the line is a lot easier to understand. After all, they do have large signs saying "ORDER DRINKS" above the registers, so there you go. Like Coffee Bean, they use computers to spit out drink orders, not the Starbucks-style of writing on the cup (which I secretly love). Drink prices were about ten cents less than Starbies. Pastry selection was just as mortifying/wonderful as a remembered, but very expensive, and with few low-fat, non-fat, or low-sugar options. Scones were running about three bucks each, and were covered with powdered sugar that I could just visualize ending up all over my face, and not in a fun way. Staff has been extremely nice, but EXTREMELY slow. All the customers before and after me were sort of standing around, looking vaguely pissed, but not really, as I think most everyone is understanding of the fact that it's a new store. However, when your business is serving people liquid crack, I think you really need to be on your game before someone shoots up the place. My first coffee was lackluster, too strong. Today's was delicious, though I fail to understand why it comes up no completely mixed and needing a top. I am not paying four bucks a cup to swirl together espresso and milk and syrup and then put a lid on it myself. Just seems weird. Overall, will probably try one more time, maybe next week when they have the kinks out, but I'm still a Starbies girl. read more

Delicious iced coffee! So delicious, that I really didn't need to add half and half, however, I love half and half, so there you go. This Peet's is pretty small, there's not much seating and since it was a super hot day, all of the seats were taken. Boo. Customer service was great! The guy behind the counter was really friendly and didn't look ready to kill himself (most baristas look like they're slowly dying) so that was a plus. The parking situation here can get a little messy because a lot of people are visiting the courthouse that is located in the shopping center. Sometimes you have to really search, but since I came there around 5, parking wasn't that bad. Damn good coffee, I wish they had more sugar-free syrup choices though. read more

I'm from the east coast where our only real chain coffee option is Starbucks. We don't have Coffee Bean or Peet's. Now that I'm out here I'm overwhelmed with all the coffee options. So for the past two weeks I did intensive research in the Marina and found that out of the 3 Peet's rules! Not only is their plaza classier but parking was easier the store was nice and clean. The workers were above and beyond in their coffee knowledge and the customers seemed more laid back in appreciation for what they were about to drink. Coffee made with love, and that's a rarity at chain/franchised coffee shops. And not to mention, GOOD strong espresso for your lattes. No need to order a double since their regular lattes already come with 2 shots of espresso. I'm obsessed with their iced coffees with a pinch of milk. I'm also a big fan of their hot cocoa. What I do not recommend is getting a dirty chai here, it just tastes wrong and overwhelming. Very friendly staff that know their coffee and teas (they have a pretty big selection) and can always offer suggestions if you're very indecisive like I am. Their pastries are good, nothing super creative. I did have a croissant here once that was quite hard & flaky - no bueno. Their bran muffin is awesome. Seating is a big downfall since there's a LIMITED number of tables. At that, their tables are also tiny, good for just one laptop basically. They offer free wifi but it only lasts one hour. I was just there today. I hadn't woken up yet and I was admittedly impatient and childish. But the girl who took my order and the girl who made my drink were both *very* patient with me. To them I am truly grateful. First, I mumbled my order: "quadshothalfcafcafebreveplease." That's difficult for me to say when I'm awake, let alone when I'm still waking up. I'm very grateful that she repeated my order back to me each time, because I wouldn't have known that I'd been unclear. Second, I watched while my shots sat for longer than 15 seconds. When I called her on it (in my previously noted pleasant morning attitude), she immediately dumped the dead shots and remade them. I apologized for giving her a hard time, explaining that I was still waking up but owning the fact that that's no excuse to be difficult. She was so gracious with me. She said something like, "You're a real espresso drinker! I totally appreciate that." Perfect. She saved me. Finally, my drink was perfect. It was exactly what I wanted.
