Great coffee shop in Menlo park. Plenty of room to sit and get stuff done. I come in here most mornings before going into our office.

Since Starbucks was under construction I decided to go to Peets this morning. Probably not my best idea, it was so crowded. The gentleman taking my order was extremely creepy and staring at me like he never saw a woman before and looked down my dress. Ew!! Then after I left the order line, he kept staring at me. I noticed the staff seemed flustered and on edge. I've been to a few Peets before and never see their staff like this. I waited ten minutes for my coffee while other customers were staring at my work clothes like I was a child dressed in my mothers clothing. Staff isn't friendly and coffee takes too long. The only good thing I have to say is that the coffee and pastries are good. But you get two for your staff. read more

This is a nice Peet's to stop in, have a coffee and get some work done. There's free wifi and a lot of tables, so generally it's easy to find a spot. Watch the Menlo parking nazi's as they have a propensity to ticket for 1 second over 2 hours making this Peet's, or any dining experience in Menlo much less appetizing. read more

As a regular all I can say is do the MOBILE orders. Dang that is such a life saver. I hate lines and "don't do lines" but mobile app orders are 'da bomb. Lovely staff. This is the first time I've tried Petes. I had a coupon for a free drink and figured why not try it. I walked in around 3:30pm and the cashier asked me what I wanted. I told him I hadn't been there before and he was kind enough to give me reccomendations on what I might like! He throughly went through the menu. The guy making my coffee was quick and really nice!! Thanked me and told me to enjoy my day. Not many coffee places you go to will give you that! It's here's your coffee and back to making the next one. Not the most consistent Cappucino in the Peet's universe. Not sure whats up with the staff at this particular Peet's, but you have a couple of people working there who pay more attention to their friends than to the customers. I dont see this at other Peet's. Update: Had a disaster of a Cappucino served to me on 9/7/2007. Ended up chucking in disgust in the street. Cold foam on top of bitter espresso. The curly blonde haired skinny guy makes an awesome Cappucino. Why the guy there cant make a decent one kills me. I knew he was a poor Cappucino maker but I gave him one more chance. I never smashed a fresh Cappucino on the street, but i finally had it. I could not take it any more. The lack of quality of Peet's has finally made me crack. How can a company like Peet's that prides itself on being a more up-market coffee place not enforce quality control? read more

Friends don't let friends drink Starbucks BUT real friends recommend Peet's store #2 in Menlo Park! The staff is wonderful - you can tell they really enjoy working here and working with each other! A real gathering place for the local regulars but a welcoming atomsphere for any patron. The only thing I wish they had more of is electrical outlets for laptops. read more

I typically do enjoy Peet's. Coffee beans a bit more bitter than preferred but think the extra foam and design on lattes is a nice touch. However I must report this location has gone downhill more for the atmosphere than the coffee. First, it is so busy - which Peet's might think is a good thing but customers are on a mission making the experience less than friendly or enjoyable. Waiting for the coffee there is nowhere to stand without getting in the way. Further, there is rarely an available seat in peak coffee times. I had to wait for a seat before squeezing in a barstool, sandwiched between a little girl dropping crumbs on my feet and another burly man overflowing onto my stool. Secondly, at the risk of sounding heartless, that homeless man who sits outside daily, as friendly as he is, is obviously there asking for money and waits for customers to give him whatever spare change they have. The whole time I sat on the barstool this morning reading the paper he was watching when I looked up. Longingly like he wanted something. Ugh, I had to stop reading as I couldn't stand being stared at. I doubt Peet's wants their customers feeling harassed not only when they walk in and out, but also guilty for enjoying a coffee and some downtime. Can he please relocate to another less than central location and not invade the space of those going for a simple coffee?! read more

11/5/13 I entered the store (Santa Cruz Av) at about 10:35 am and stood in the line to buy coffee beans. There was no one waiting besides me. I stood there and watched for way too long while the clerk and customer being served gabbed. I am not implying that the clerk wasn't doing anything, she was. However, she was working very slowly as she and the customer conversed. I finally walked out. I expect better service than that from Peets. Probably won't go to this Peets again. read more

I've been coming here for 15 years and the service keeps getting worse and worse. The turnover of workers is exponential! I never see the same person more than once. Recently my coffee grinder at home broke and I had to get ground coffee. I told them I wanted "ground for a Melita 4". For weeks I could not get a strong cup of coffee at home regardless of how much grounds I used. I attribute that to their grounding since I don't have the same problem at when I ground it myself. Painfully slow most times. Most of the staff are nice; some are very kind. The baked goods are fairly good, on average. The beans are fantastic, but hot coffee drinks with milk are ruined by the scorching of the milk. Even after asking for140 degrees, they reuse the existing burned milk in the pitcher, so it is never going to be a top flight experience without some serious retraining. Not to be outmaneouvered by Starbucks in the meaningless middle classguilt-assuasion department, they too have adapted the "Juanita and Maria" politically correct amount of guilt trip with a happy ending blends. And sustainability are us! TM. Such noblesse oblige and religious greenie brownie points available for about a buck a pound! The NOISE -- BANG, SLAM, CRASH, SHOUT, and SHREIKs of spoiled parents letting their very "special" litlle wild Indians run amuk. Imagine the lawsuit if one of those rambunctious rugrats fell during one of his/her all-importantant artistic outbursts? And cell-fish carryings-on aplenty! Must everyone hear every conversation? At times, it's ludicrously hilarious. Some days dogs visit indoors. One day it was an Irish setter the size of a small pony paying a full visit while the owners discussed jewelry in Farsi. The dog was quite a hit with the customers, and no one dared point out the obvious potential pending poopfest ... but no, management lucked out. (Is there management?) Purse dogs, no problem, totally welcome. Well, the purse is the toilet anyway. Anyway, these are not the one servicedog who is a well-behaved regular, and the Health Dept recognizes its validity. The homeless use the washrooms to wash up (which is okay, to a point), but after paying almost 10 bucks with tip for breakfast, it can be nauseating to sit through dirty-clothing-BO wafting your way from the next table for a good 45 minutes while meeting a friend. BANG, CRASH, WHAM, SHREIK! Amazing how more long lost friends who obviously haven't met in years (or perhaps since last week) collide here with earnest shock-and-awe earsplitting gaiety! Smoochy-smoochy! These theatrics beat West Hollywood. The decibel level is off the charts. read more

So much stronger than Starbuck's! Peet's is for the experienced coffee drinker. If you're making the switch from tea or Diet Coke to coffee, go somewhere where they offer some kind of frappo-whipped-chi creation. If you want to keep yourself hyper all freaking day, Peet's is you place. read more

I will always love PEETS and will continue going to PEETS over Starbucks. I think the people who work at PEETS are generally very nice, welcoming people. I've been to multiple locations in Bay Area and I've never had a bad experience except a few times at this Menlo Park location. However, I had a weird encounter the other day with one worker or barista. She took my order and was pretty nice. I was curious about the cold brew and had asked her which flavor she thought was good. She replied very snobbish and said "Well .. umm .. I don't like coffee" I had a "WTF" moment for a second or two. It's like walking in to restaurant and the chef telling you " I work here but I don't like the food here ". She felt flustered at the moment and stated they updated their computer system and she was confused. So I took that into account and maybe it could justify the snobby reply. I'm pretty convinced this Peet's employee doesn't like to work here as I've seen her a few times not very happy doing her job. I know her name.. but I'm way too nice to put her on blast. I try to be understanding and tell myself that she's young.. obviously in college and chooses to have a job to support herself and keep busy. So I just let it roll off my shoulder but with all that said, she ended up making my coffee and it tasted like crap and to top it all off... she fills he coffee to the rim, puts whip to the point where if u close it with a lid, coffee and whip will come spewing out the hole on the lid. She's done this before and I've gotten frustrated but never added a bad "tip" on yelp about her. Where's Alan the barista when you need him? The lady cashier in the morning who took my order was very nice and professional peets gets very busy and since their coffee is very strong I asked her for samples she didn't care that their was a big line behind me she attended me payd attention to me and have me like 3 or 4 different samples she is the kind of example excellent customer service. read more

This Peet's is A-OK. There always seems to be a line, but not a lot of customers, and the homeless guy kind of gets annoying at the entryway. Otherwise, pretty good for Peet's, but nothing special in the service or general ambiance. read more

The service is really slow, despite having a huge service staff. They don't prioritize well so often a line builds up while 3 or 4 people are futzing around in the back. Also there isn't much table space. The coffee can be great depending on the barista. The free wifi is nice. read more

Very happy to have a Peet's nearby as we ALL KNOW Starbuck's doesn't cut it. This one is busy but has great staff that get you through quickly. I would give it a five but the coffee is a pinch more interesting at Philz across town (more of a Turkish flavor). read more

Usually I am not a Peet's person, but this is by far the nicest location I have been to. They have plentiful seating, although I was there when church let out on Sunday and good g*d the place was swarmed with stylish little rugrats and their caffeine-starved parents. It was a mad house. But anyway, my life has been transformed by the fact that you can ask for your drink "for here" and they actually give you your drink in a very nice porcelain mug. And I got tea, and they do LOOSE LEAF in one of those cute individual-sized tea pots, which really ups their status in my book. The pastries were good, as was the service. Foul. The coffee and food at Peet's was fine. They were out of Chai when I was there but I adjusted to another drink. However, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. There was dirt,grime and spills (in the supplies closet) all over. I came to Peet's around 10am, so this was not the result of a full days use (even then, bathroom checks are supposed to be done to ensure they are up to par). This bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The smell of urine was overpowering. To make matters worse, the machine was out of paper towels. When I spoke to the manager on duty, she said that she knew the bathroom was out of paper towels but had no solutions for the issue (like putting the napkins used by the restaurant in the room). Even more surprising was the fact that, even though the restaurant knew they were out, there was no sign to indicate this fact on the machine. Definitely won't be coming here again. read more

I've only been a Starbucks girl, but since they were closed for construcation i made my way down Santa Cruz Ave, i have to say it was a cute place, I didnt expect it to be that nice inside. I got an Iced Mocha (which was soo good!) something different from my usual ice coffee. The only complaint I have was the woman taking drinks was a little less then friendly and the guy making my drinks slammed all three on the counter and shouted in my ear they were done. Don't know if I will be going back b/c it is on the other side of Santa Cruz and i work all the way on the oppsite end of it, Starbucks is closer and I've had a better experience there. read more

I was given a pound of coffee by my employer as a gift and was horrified to hear about the way he was treated by the cashier. I work for a disabled man in the Menlo Park area by the name of Tom. Tom visited the Santa Cruz Avenue location and was treated in a very abrupt fashion by the cashier on duty on Wed, 2/8/17 around 12 noon. Apparently Tom was having trouble getting his credit card out of his wallet and she seemed very put out by the extra time that this took. Tom only has use of one of his hands. He is also in a wheelchair. However he is of sound mind. He was not exactly upset by the the incident as much as I am. It is not ok to treat people this way. Tom is a valuable member of his community and regularly volunteers for the Menlo Park Police Department. He and all disabled people should be treated with respect and dignity. He is also one of the sweetest and wittiest people I have ever known. Shame on her. read more

I like this Peet's location; they are friendly and efficient. This time of year I can't get enough of the Pumpkin Spice Lattes, so I'm here all the time. On warmer days, their Light Freddos are incredibly refreshing; I love how smooth and creamy they are! Nice ambiance, good business, and a good location along Santa Cruz Ave makes for a relaxing afternoon of people-watching indeed! read more
