I've a somewhat new "regular" customer (once a week for 6 weeks) and wanted to share my opinion. Its about the coffee, but also about the experience, right? Greeting the customer, organized ordering process, creating a great cup of coffee or tea in a clean and positive atmosphere. The service is usually ok, not outstanding nor poor. I usually arrive at off peak hours where there are not many people in line. I have ordered the Cafe Latte, Cafe Mocha, Espresso, Green Tea Latte, Pumpkin Hot Chocolate among other drinks and have enjoyed each one. The crew seems to work together, with minimal wait time between drinks. The Cafe Mocha did arrive warm once, not hot, so I requested another cup. It's a small location, there is no place to sit and barely enough to stand if there are people waiting for their drinks. They have displays on the floor that take up valuable space in the middle of the room. So, be prepared to order, pick up and move on with your coffee or tea. If you go at peak times, expect to stand in a crowded line. read more

As an ex-barista for this particular Peet's, I have nothing but love, love for this store, the people, and the company. Like a traditional italian coffee shop, there is no seating except the benches and the parking lot outside. No cheesy music of some failing pop star (or not so failing) playing like other coffee shops that will remain nameless. Damn the conglomerate! This store has character because of the people who work there (my peeps or peetniks I should say). It may be crowded in the morning but that's the time to go. Feel the buzz of the caffeine addicts mecca and wait in line with the rest of the fiends who yearn for that early morning fix. I promise you won't be disappointed. And remember, tall, grande, super grande, and venti is for starbucks smucks. read more

Edit: In a somewhat Darwinian fashion, the problem barista seems to have taken care of itself: someone told me she's moving out of the area. Maybe now I can get my latte without an extra large serving of venom! I used to love coming here when my favorite barista Mike was on duty: always a friendly, genuine smile, never a sense that your order was burdensome and a sincere wish to have a good day. Unfortunately, Mike passed on and the character of the store has really taken a drastic turn for the worse. There is one female barista who is so nasty that I have stopped going to this location altogether: she is rude and acts as if my order is so difficult to fulfill that it is consuming every last ounce of her energy to take it. I'm tired of the dirty looks, the slamming of the register drawer or the slamming of change into my hand when she's not throwing it across the counter at me. I had no idea that people who had such a hard time taking coffee orders and giving change was so difficult; I thought the people who had a hard time doing that were all working for TSA. read more

Sort of strange that there is only one other review of this place. Every once in awhile I get stuck in PA for 3-4 hours. This Peet's makes the time pass a little quicker. Nice staff, rarely busy and they still had that holiday flavored syrups when I visited in February. read more

This would be a nice place to go, we're it not for the tenants of the neighboring offices who claim the parking lot solely for the use of themselves and not Peet's customers. I have even seen them come running out of their offices to shout at people who go into Peet's! It is really to bad this store could not be in a location with better parking, but that is just Palo Alto! read more

This place gets one star promptness, customer service and accuracy. It seems like every time that I come into this location, my order is messed up, forgotten or takes at least 10 minutes. Here is the catch, I have only ordered tea! I am sorry but if you cannot manage to figure out had to add some hot water to some tea leaves you have issues with performing most duties in daily life. I have given this location multiple chances to redeem itself and each time it fails. I have completely stopped going to this location and unless it is an "emergency" I will not go back. read more

What is it with the service at this location? I went in twice this week. The first time I walked up to the counter only to be told they were out of coffee. (The name of the establishment does seem to indicate that they have "coffee" on hand--and since it's listed as the main product, perhaps it might be a good idea to make sure that you have it available? Pretty much all the time? And if you're running low, perhaps that would be a good time to think about making more?) In any event, one of the employees who seemed to be the more experienced of the two handed out cards to everyone for a free coffee because of all the delays. Nice!! Good way to defuse a screw-up. This morning I'm walking past Peet's and remembering that I have my coupon for a free drink, stop by. Guess what? No coffee! No apologies, no cards, tried to give me a half-caff when the new brew was done....Yuk. read more

This place makes the best foam! I get my Cafe Au Lait everyday from here and the its so great. Favorite blend: Major Dickenson's. The staff here pays attention to detail. God forbid I went to Starbucks yesterday and got a Misto (S-bux-speak for an Au Lait) and it was watery, lukewarm and gross. This Peet's serves up high quality drinks...no ambient seating, no w-fi, not easy to park. Just great coffee!! read more

Although Pete's has grown significantly in the last few years, opening more stores in Palo Alto and beyond, it still has managed to retain some of the feeling of a neighborhood coffeeshop rather than a coffee mega-chain. Add to that the fact that the coffee is delicious and they keep things speedy as you grab your morning caffeine. This is definitely a good bet! read more

I often stop here because it's on my walk into work in the morning and home in the evening. The chai is good. Mixed reviews about the personnel. I agree with some commenters that some of the people there really don't measure up, but there are others who are most excellent -- they remember my usual order, always make it right, and carry on a friendly conversation. I think some of the trouble may be that they are understaffed. It depends a lot on what time you get there. During rush times, there just aren't enough people there to keep up with the volume, but because of the tucked away location, they have some serious downtime when you can find them more relaxed and eager to help and talk. read more

This Peets is what it is. It's a tiny hole in the wall that caters to people busily moving from one location to the next. If it was intended to be a leisurely coffee shop where you go to meet up with old friends and spend the afternoon catching up or as place to study then I'd definitely give it less stars. I go here daily and the staff is generally pretty cool. Generally I think Peets employees tend to be better than your average coffeshop soldier and this Peets is no exception. read more

Peet's coffees are a bit too acidic for my taste, but still great. Long lines and miniscule parking spaces. The chocolate croissants are very good, but go fast both here and at Town and Country. Been there at 7 am to find all chocolate croissants gone...how is that possible ??? Lovely teas, brewed with precision. I like the Ti Kuan Yin. They also have a collection of intruiging syrups and spices. read more

I picked this Peets because I went there every day for years after work but all Peets are awesome! Not only is everyone helpful, pleasant and hard working but I love their coffee! I am a little appalled by some of the comments made below, However I have to remember those were before they got new management. The previous manager( Collins) ran the store to hell. He was like a Ghetto hip hop star trapped in a 40 year olds body. Anyways ever since september when the new manager ( Jamel) took over, this store has been great!! The employee's seem Happy! Also the drinks and store presentation is great! I agree with david's comments. This store is like the little engine that could. Yes it may be old but dont count it out! You have to remember that it's like store # 10 and it's been open for a long time. I think Peet's should invest into a new building for this store. Anyways enough said. Great coffee and the staff really tries its best despite the attitude of the customers. I would rather put up with the underpaid staff than the self-important customers who want to stand in the doorway with their dog or in their spandex, chatting after their morning class at Reach. Like one reviewer said, many of the customers believe the universe revolves around them. This Peets is what it is, a place to get cofffee. If you want to hog up a table with your laptop and update your Facebook page, go somewhere else, but don't bash the staff. I love Palo Alto but could do without all the rich snobs who think they deserve special treatment. read more

I used to be a barista supervisor for over a year and a half and when I went to peets coffee today I was highly disappointed with the service I received due to the fact that I was first in line and was making eye contact with the cashier and she wouldn't greet me and was calling people that were behind me in line first then when I was the last one left she walked away and no one replaced the cashier or barista for over 10 minutes so I just left with no service done. read more

As a fellow barista for two long years i feel the pain of the staff. Hours can be long, early, and you may encounter a few too many crazed coffee fiends who are super grumpy in the morning. But, like any job you have yours up and downs and you have to brush the bad situations off and be appreciative to the customers that make it worthwhile to be there. I definantly didnt get a yelp to gripe about places but rather to praise the ones i think deserve it. Unfortunately i have had far too many bad experences at this peets to honestly say anything nice. The staff is sooooo grumpy and sometimes even rude. I am never on my phone, and never slide pennies over to them to pay for my drinks i attempt to be pleasant so i am still perplexed as to why i receive such rude if any welcoming. I like there coffee better than most places and am often lunching at whole foods...but everytime i go there i feel uncomfortable and leave dissapointed in the lack of customer service or just common courtesy...i will not be giving any of my business to this peets or any for that matter. read more

this is probably the worst, most unwelcoming peets I've gone to .. entering the store I was greeted with "how are you" not even with a smile.. in a low lazy tone that sounded like a robot that could care less.. it sounded like he was forced to say it. . and indeed he was because they have secret shopper scores that they need to pass and the first question is "were you greeted immediately after entering the store?" I know this because I used to work at peets .. all I'm saying is it shouldn't sound like you're being forced to greet someone even though you are.. and it's not like they were busy anyway. . when I walked in all three of them were lounging around doing absolutely nothing. it's a wonder why there were no customers at all.. the cashier who's name was CHRISTOPHER needed a lesson on customer service because he didn't even say hello he just had a blank , dead stare.. like a zombie .. he looked like he hated his job but he also seemed like he was new ? I ordered my drink and he rung it up and stared off into space... not even telling me how much it was going to be ... I was waiting for like 30 seconds and he still didn't say anything so I just handed him my card ... he swiped it and gave it back to me .... not saying one word at all .. I waited for the receipt but he didn't give it to me. instead he just looked at me and then walked away .. I honestly think CHRISTOPHER can be replaced by a sock and the sock would still do a better job. . seriously to the manager of this store here are some wise words to follow ... RECONSIDER CHRISTOPHER! he's horrible at this job and I cannot emphasize that enough. if I could give you half a star or less I would ! good day . read more
