Got seated quick for noon on a Sunday (2 of us for brunch). Our first time so the server was patient with our questions about what to order. I got the chicken, waffles and eggs on the side. The chicken was great (I took a giant piece home) but my waffle was cold and my eggs were a little underdone (whites not quite cooked thru even though I ordered over medium). Great customer service, our server (forgot her name but she had blue hair) was very attentive and kind. Love that. I ordered the potato burrito with a side of fruit and it was good. Best service I've had in a really long time. Francine was our server at the breakfast bar. Friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, the exact right amount of communication and checking in throughout our meal. I eat out a lot, often at high end Michelin Star restaurants, yet at this 35 year old diner, Francine curated a better dining experience than many of the fine dining establishments I frequent. She picked up on my comments on how I like my hash browns extra crispy and checked back with me to make sure they were done just right. Her smile and her friendly spirit made this a 6 star morning for me and my dining mates today. We will be back and we will request Francine for sure. Great work!!! read more

I've been meaning to check out this lil hidden local gem but the hours aren't the norm and I always tend to forget that they exist. But today I was craving biscuits and gravy so I called in an order for pick up. The call was quick and easy, the pick up- also great. They were semi-busy, which I was happily surprised to see a business still strive during these covid times. Def an older generation favorite- as I could tell. My order was ready to go and I paid practically nuthin for all I got. They are extremely generous with an order of biscuits and gravy- can feed 4 ppl for sure! Unless you're a piggy like me and eat 1.5 haha. I would maybe ask for the gravy on the side next time cuz it can get soggy quick- but good thing i like still like that! Everything was cooked perfectly as ordered. Our server, Sierra, was outstanding!! All of our requests were swiftly addressed, and when my friends scrambled portion appeared smallish, she delivered an extra egg right away, all smiles. Checked on us regularly with refills, despite the rush. I recommend their english muffin upgrade, as it is huge and will soak up all the goodness on your plate. Their coffee was very good too. Great old school diner ambiance, they were firing on all cylinders today. Their menu has an abundant variety to choose from, with a kids, and senior selection priced just right. The coffee was completely bland and watered down , the food tasted the complete opposite of fresh , potatoes , mushrooms , bacon , egg and even peppers had zero flavor and the banana Nutella French toast was just as bad , the "Nutella" tasted either old or like a knockoff brand and the sourdough bread tasted expired. The service was attentive and quick. The menu had great breakfast choices. I had the house Huevos Rancheros. Two over easy eggs served ontop two perfectly crispy corn tortillas, drenched in Spanish sauce and topped with jack cheese. Absolutely delicious, I savored every bite. I also tried the California Spicy skillet. It was tasty potatoes topped with bacon, mushrooms, peppers, scrambled eggs topped with Mexican cheese served with a side of salsa and toast. The first time we came to Pegah's I was sold for life. Man! Talk about great food. Today 3 of us came to breakfast on the way to San Diego Safari Park and two of us cannot eat a large meal all at once, so we shared the French Toast combo and let me tell you! The third member of our party had the waffle combo with sausage. The waffle is described as "thin and crisp," but we thought it stood tall enough to be passed off as a sorta Belgian waffle until we saw a Belgian waffle served at a table nearby. it was tender crisp and fresh tasting. Again, the eggs were perfect, and the sausage was a star--the links looked like an advertisement. The flavor was well-balanced between the maple and savory meat and herbs. Not a bit greasy. The clientele all looked happy, and staff seemed to know many by name. While we only visit Safari Park three to four times a year because we live an hour's dive away, Pegah's is the place we have breakfast and often lunch if we have a short day at the Park.
