We stopped here at Peggy's Place since it appeared in a "Ten Best" list of breakfast places in Keystone... and we are not sure why. Service was mediocre and our server did not seem to listen well on this particular morning. The food was just average, at best. I asked for a biscuit, instead of toast, to accompany my breakfast, with a side of country gravy. The biscuit was limp and seemed like it may have been re-warmed. The gravy was quite bland. The location of this place made it an ideal breakfast stop before heading up to Mt. Rushmore. We arrived early on a Monday morning so got seated right away. The dinning area is somewhat plane, but it's not jammed packed with tables either, so you don't feel crowded. The waitstaff was friendly and quick. The menu is simple and I found if you don't find exactly what you want, they can customized the order. Our food came out as ordered and hot ! My daughter enjoyed the pancakes and they were so large she wasn't even able to finish 1/2 the meal. I got sunny side up eggs, with hash, smothered in country sausage gravy and I'll admit, that gravy hit the spot real good. The prices are also very reasonable. Well, we found out that their only good cook works on the weekends. Came here twice, on Sunday and Monday. Sunday was slow but acceptable. Make sure you get the ham! Monday, we waited an hour for our breakfast (honestly). Server was great and comped our meal. Loved the peach pie!!!!!!!! read more

Stopped in here for lunch. It's a simple diner with limited menu The club sandwich fries and creamy coke slaw were perfect. But mostly I was impressed by the staff. A diverse group of people all smiling and working together cooperatively. It seems a great place to work and I would definitely recommend it for a quick uncomplicated tasty meal. read more

We stopped here for breakfast for the July 4th weekend. We had the eggs over easy, Hash browns, biscuit with gravy and French toast and all of them were absolutely amazing. Out waitress Tammy made the service experience even better that we decided on eating there another day. I would highly recommend this place to everyone. I should have look at the reviews and went somewhere else. I wanted try a family style home cooking diner place so we went there after long trip from Michigan. Got our room around 7:00 pm at the Roosevelt Inn went there to take out our food orders. Everyone was nice so nothing went wrong with that. The kicker is that they told the cooks to rush so they can serve two friends of theirs first because they were in a hurry. We ask about buying a whole pie but because they do it per slice it would have been 30 bucks and I was like "No, that is not worth it," plus, I never try Rhurbarb before so I would not know if I like it or not. Customer service - 2/5 Cash only place be aware they had an old sign saying machine is broken and that they have a working ATM machine who knows how much fees is taken out. Salads - 1/5 - The salad tasted okay. They said, "Ranch is homemade," it tasted weird and nasty so I did not like it. I had better Ranch before. Bread - 3/5 - It is a small roll it tasted okay I had better ones which was softer. Salmon - 4/5 - My uncle like it and did not say anything bad about it. Liver and Onions - 3/5 - My mom like the Liver and Onions but the rice tasted like it came somewhere that it was not freshly made. Two Fried Chicken Dinners - 0/5 - The chicken was too oily and dry. That was very disappointing that we threw it out. Lastly, I got Chicken Pasta - Definitely a big 0/5 - It looked good but I took a bite out of it the food was too buttery and oily. I threw that one out. Very disappointing. Strawberry and Rhubarb Mixed Pie - 1/5 - It tasted okay it had too much sour in it and I did not like it as much. Bread Pudding - 1/5 - Dad said, "I had better, and I agree." After, 10 minutes I threw up the contents of the Chicken Pasta. Be aware Cash only and the food quality is not the best and not even over par. I would not go back there again, I will go somewhere else. I suggest you guys go somewhere else! This place gets 0.5 if Yelp had it than that would be the score. The reason for the 0.5 was because they were nice. Overall, it was not the best! We just happened onto this place, it was wonderful. Our waiter was named Bart, he had brought his daughter to work with him. He was friendly, made suggestions, told us what was his favorites, and was just entertaining in his own right. The food though was the star. Don't eat here! First of all, our waiter forgot to turn in our order to the kitchen (which he admitted to) and we waited 30 minutes after giving him our order. He did take our drinks off the bill and asked the cook to hurry but maybe he shouldn't have because I had the everything omelet and my eggs were raw in the middle! The only thing decent was the toast. My husband had biscuits and gravy and they were horrible. Appearances matter in business. All the staff looked like they rolled out of a hay stall that morning or hadn't been to bed from a bender the night before. The ladies had unbrushed hair that wasn't properly pulled back and I feel that's so gross when working around food. Yuck! Also, this place is cash only. Huge inconvenience for tourism. We stopped in for breakfast after a 12 hour drive. Breakfast for a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) ran $50.00. I have rarely ever typed a poor review. However... The eggs tasted as though they had been microwaved. The coffee tasted like water with a bit of coffee flavor. The pancakes and French toast had an odd taste. The biscuits tasted like Grands canned biscuits that had not been throughly cooked. The gravy had an unusual sweet flavor to it. $50 later and everyone left still hungry. We went up to Mt Rushmore for the 4th and this place was near our hotel. The special in the evening was meatloaf which we ordered. It was ok, nothing great about it. The big thing that shocked me were the prices. A 2 piece chicken dinner was $14! A leg and a breast should not cost that much. Some people arrived at the table next to us and when they saw the prices they left. Our server did a great job keeping our drinks full, and the place was clean. Overall the food was ok, but the prices will keep me from going back. Maybe this place is better for breakfast then lunch or dinner. read more

We were there for breakfast, so don't know about their lunch/dinner options. The place is not exactly jumping at you from outside and it's very basic diner style inside. Very clean, but basic. We have absolutely no issues with the service - very welcoming and personable. All of our requests were processed very quickly and efficiently. Food, unfortunately, was just ok - this is probably the best way to describe it. Omelets were fried with too much grease, toasts were tasteless and coffee was barely warm and weak. Pricing was decent, but the quality just wasn't there. I'm not sure if that's a lack of competition talking - there are very few if any breakfast places around - or it simply works for customers, but we'll probably not going to be coming back if we're in the area. read more

I loved Peggy's Place! I travel to Keystone often, so I know what the food and prices usually are for the area. Peggy's has a friendly wait staff, good food and reasonable prices. WARNING, DO NOT EAT HERE! Honestly I don't usually like to leave bad reviews because I try to give the establishment the benefit of the doubt. In this case I couldn't in good conscience let another second go by without warning perspective diners. My bill averaged $20 per person for food that I would have thrown away. In actuality most of the "food" that was delivered did get thrown away, because we couldn't eat it. I will likely contact the Better Business Bureau to inquire about a possible investigation. Marie H. you are the only person I have heard that has something negative to say about Patty's Place, next time you visit Keystone enjoy your free processed waffle mix, warm apple juice and day old bread for the toaster. My family and I will enjoy another excellent breakfast at Patty's Place, with wonderful homemade saugage gravy poured over potatoes, ham, mushrooms with eggs done to order, or massive and delicious fresh made cinnamon buns, or tasty pancakes made just right. We were there during the Sturgis motorcycle rally week and the place was packed, still we had friendly and efficient service and outstanding food. A much better value than any free hotel breakfast.
