I had not been here in over 10 years and stopped in on a whim after getting a craving. Unfortunately, it did not live up to what I remembered. The restaurant felt dusty and not very clean, and the food was honestly just bland. I ordered the tofu lettuce wraps, and the tofu was especially bad. It was overly chewy and cut into large chunks that did not work at all for a lettuce wrap. It really should have been crumbled. The edamame also tasted like it came from an old packet and was not fresh at all. That said, the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. Seriously?! I ordered chicken lo mein. THE CHICKEN MEAT WAS TOTALLY TASTELESS!! At first they brought me the chicken lo mein with NO bean sprouts, NO red bell peppers, NO mushrooms! I spoke to the management, then they later brought me the missing ingredients in a side dish. Some mushrooms are cooked; some mushrooms not fully cooked. I must admit that we drove pretty far because we wanted to taste Chef Jet Tila's food and it did not disappoint. We love rooting for him when he is on some of our favorite shows, and now we are rooting for his restaurants. We had the fried rice with orange chicken and also beef & broccoli. Both were fantastic. I loved the beef and broccoli the best but my husband loved the orange chicken the best. I was so excited when I saw there were sprouts in the rice, I love that so much but rarely find it. We also enjoyed the crab wontons. The sauce was spicy but I kept going back for more. All in all a great dinner. I also would like to mention that the restaurant is extremely clean. Staff welcomed us as soon as we arrived. Extremely friendly. There was a family in the restaurant with little girls running all around and spilling things, and the staff never lost their cool. Food is all right. Actually, their orange chicken definitely tastes better than Panda Express and any express type of Chinese food. I highly recommend their orange chicken. The pad Thai was all right. We also got their Korean spicy beef and beef and broccoli bowls, and they were all on the saltier, saucier side. I like their unsweetened iced teas; those were good. It's a casual restaurant where you can order at the register, then sit to eat. There are plenty of fortune cookies, chili & soy sauce packets, to-go boxes. It's convenient. Came here a week ago. We were craving Orange Chicken again. This time it was perfect, the breading was light and the ratio of the orange flavor with the sweet sauce was perfect. We spoke to the manager to let him know it was perfectly cooked this time and he said if in the future, we are not happy with how it is cooked to let him know and they will re do it. The Mongolian green beans was very good as well. I will skip the hot and sour soup next time and go back to the Thai wonton soup. To the owner, the restroom needs to be renovated. read more

I was surprised to see the reviews not a little bit higher, but regardless, my wife took me here for my first time since she has been here before and said it was pretty good. I would definitely agree and say it was very good, and they had a large number of options. We ended up ordering the Kung Pai Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Szechuan Green Beans, and more. The Green beans are honestly the best I have had in a very long time. I am not a fan of green beans, but the marinade that is on these, I was easily able to eat the full bowl of green beans before I remembered to grab a picture. As for the beef and chicken, they each had great flavor and great seasoning as well. The fried rice with each was moist and not too hot or dry. As for the veggies, they are pretty standard and basic, but again, this is a solid option, in my opinion, as a better Panda Express option. Definitely recommend it and have been a few times now since the first visit! I was pleasantly surprised by my personal experience here! We stopped by for dinner during the holiday season and were met with lots of seating options in the open space. There may have only been one or two other tables with people. We ordered the Honey-Seared Chicken with white rice and the Beef Teriyaki with a side of fried rice -- our orders arrived to our table quickly! I LOVED the Honey-Seared Chicken! And I will most definitely be ordering it again. The portion size is definitely amazing. The amount of rice that's included is MORE than enough and the amount of chicken was plentiful! The honey with the chicken was such a splendid taste and mixed with rice...so so delicious! All of this for $11? Just a great deal. While the Honey-Seared Chicken was delicious, the Beef Teriyaki was more on the mediocre end. While the price point was still great for the portion, the fried rice almost seemed like it was not fully cooked. The dish was overall a bit on the salty side and what stood out the most was how watery the dish became about 10 minutes into eating. Because it got so watery, the remaining teriyaki and the fried rice turned into a mushy like consistency. It seems that the food experience here depends on the dish! I will definitely be ordering the Honey-Seared Chicken again and will be looking to order more dishes adjacent to that more than the Beef Teriyaki. read more

What has happened to Pei Wei? Today, they dismantled their take out section and it looks messy. How long will it be before this place is closed down? Pei Wei today in the District is dirty, smelly, and out-dated. Please, open the window! The bathroom smell permeated the entire building. There must be a sewer backup because we could smell it outside. They have reduced the ingredients to their dishes. I know because I loved to substitute some items. For example, Pei Wei today serves Sesame chicken with chicken, broccoli and rice. Pei Wei ten years ago, served Sesame chicken with white fried noodles, pineapple, bell peppers and chicken. Today's version is a lot worse. We also ordered Bourbon chicken and sent it back asap. It was terrible. Salty, sweet, and tasted horrible. Pei Wei lost us as customers. read more

Tried a new place for lunch today in Irvine. Pei Wei Asian kitchen was quite a good surprise! The place itself is large and bright. Clean and offers lots of condiments, side plates and to go boxes right there in a self serve area. Love that idea! The young woman got our order wrong but they were super quick at fixing it and getting it back to the table. We ordered the signature lettuce wraps which by the way were soo delicious and flavorful! Quite a good surprise in my opinion. Also we ordered the Thai basil chicken and white rice which is a new dish. Great flavor and good size serving. Definitely filling! We also ordered the spicy Korean bbq steak with substitute fried rice. The steak was soft and tasty and the rice was pretty good as well. So this was kind of disappointing. I ordered the orange chicken with lo mein noodles and it felt like eating orange chicken with plain spaghetti. The fact that there was no flavor or seasoning for the noodles was extremely dissatisfying. They're even fried on the wok. Come here if you're on a really strict diet or boil some noodles at home. 4/20/25, We've come to this only remaining location in Southern California a few times over the past six months; although, I am still trying to find something outstanding to say about this place but I just can't come up with anything. There are a few unpleasant things that this location like the others years before they all closed, you would think that this being the last one remaining that it would be better but honestly it's just poorly managed. For starters, has anyone noticed how chilly it is at almost anywhere you sit inside the restaurant? Seems like there is an air conditioner blowing directly down at each table so even on a warm day outside you have to remember to bring a jacket if you want to dine inside. Additionally, notice how the tables are left messy for a long time after a customer finishes?, it takes the employee about 15 to 20 minutes to come around to clear off a messy table although you never see them clean off the table with a wet towel and detergent. Thirdly, the bathroom smells and/or bathroom soap smells come all the way out to the dining area, so it is actually very unpleasant to be smelling the odors or even that bathroom detergent smell all the while trying to enjoy eating the food. Lastly, they want to charge a lot extra for a tiny bit of peanuts or scallions, so we brought our own scallions straight from our home garden and the peanuts are from Trader Joe's. And finally, the chicken on the bourbon chicken dish tasted more like chopped rubbery pork belly meat, so I'm never ordering that again. Plus they give way too much rice for the price. Doesn't make such a good meal unless you bring some of your own extras from home to add to it. read more

Most Saturdays, my son, his caregiver and I frequent The District because he loves the outdoor experience and fountains! But we never miss stopping for a bowl of amazing Chicken Pad Thai at Pei Wei. Angel, the cashier and food runner always greets us warmly like we are old friends and makes my son feel super special. Angel also remembers my son has extreme dietary restrictions and also has difficulty waiting for his food and makes it a priority to always bring his food with extra gluten-free soy sauce on the side. The nicest thing is Angel always treats us like he is happy to see us and asks specific questions to Mikey to see how he is doing. Although Mikey is nonverbal you can tell loves the friendship connection!! So good job to the Angel the manager... I knew there was a reason why we took Pei Wei off our list of dining establishments. Ever since the acquisition away from the P.F, Chang's umbrella in 2019, Pei Wei has become lost in the typical smorgasbord of cost cutting, 'alignment' of the new owner(s) take of MVP cuisine.... MVP as in Minimal Viable Product. Even with Jet Li's optimistic tutelage, Pei Wei has wandered quite far from their original goal. Something outside of his own control, new offerings aside. (Minor shareholder, IIRC) I hope PF Chang got ALL THE $$$$ for that transaction. This isn't something new, as it started once the papers were signed.... Pei Wei has succumbed to the fast casual lunch establishment. Something to relatively quickly grab subsistence. Whether the calories are within spec, the amount of rice vs protein provided is quite abysmal. Forget 'family style' portions or presentations. We stopped in last evening for dinner. Obviously forgetting why we took it off our list... Ordering food was easy, our teenage Minions could have pushed the buttons on the POS Kiosk system versus a very presentable employee. I spotted spare plates near the condiments /utensils, but left them there due to them looking dirty. Once our food arrived, each dish had sooooooooo much rice. Nearly two cups worth for each one. Sesame Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, Broccoli Beef, Chicken Fried Rice (obviously that one has rice in the description) Portions were not dinner equivalent, that is for certain. We had to obtain our own plates. I located three, the fourth one was dirty. Sourced a stack of six plates, all had food stuck to them, or other signs of not being cleaned properly. I inquired with an employee for an additional one after advising finding dirty ones... And the stack of plates he looked through were dirty as well.. He then went through seven (7) dirty bowls before finding a clean one. Heck, seeing how many dirty dishes there were, we do not even know if the serving bowls the food was delivered in were fully clean, now that I think of it. Food flavors were meh. The Bourbon Chicken does not mesh with the rest of the meals on the board. Sesame Chicken & Broccoli Beef were overly sweet. I am happy that there is a Pei Wei reasonably close to me. For my money, they are the best of the Asian Fusion chain restaurants. I've been to the location in Tustin many times, including getting take out yesterday. It is always good. The service is friendly and they have a lot of menu choices. I have a fondness for their Chicken and Broccoli, but honestly, everything I've tried has been good. Their prices are reasonable and they give ample servings.
