We ate at Pei Wei for lunch this past weekend, after not eating here in quite a long time. While our selected dishes tasted good, they were served in cheap, plastic containers, with only tiny, plastic forks. The nice, ceramic bowls and real silverware are all gone. Even the drink cups were a very cheap, paper, disposable variety. There are no longer any bottles of soy sauce on the tables, either; only tiny, disposable soy sauce packets were available. From the looks of it, Pei Wei appears to be about one step away from going bankrupt, and the prices have soared. I doubt that we will be eating here again. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been an avid supporter of Pei Wei in the past. The food is quick without feeling like fast food and good. Not anymore. The food is served out of to go containers not bowls. It made me feel like I was eating an underrated microwave dinner. The curry sauce on the coconut chicken curry was watered down. It was not as thick as it has been in the past so it just made the rice soggy and didn't stick to the meat. The Mongolian beef my husband and son ordered had a lot of burnt hard gristle in it. My husband thought he broke a tooth after the first bite it was so hard. Finally they no longer have their signature black chi tea. It was so good and I guess off the menu now. It is defiantly not worth the money anymore. read more

The food is great and I highly recommend the Firecracker chicken, but the staff wasn't great on my visit today and I've visited Pei Wei locations all over the country. Fountain drink machine was out of service and they were charging $2.79 for a can drink (didn't realize it till I saw my receipt). And they were not allowing you an extra drink even though they charge fountain prices. Also, the fortune cookies were all stale. Unfortunate, but I still love the food. read more

I visited this Pei Wei while bargain hunting for school uniforms. The staff was friendly and nice. The parking is a little bit weird, but there is plenty of it. The food was prepared quickly and was still flavorful. I love their general tsos with quinoa. I did not dine in, therefore cannot comment on the cleanliness of the dining room/bathrooms. If you are in the area, I recommend you give them a try. read more

Generally we try to avoid chain restaurants but this one is solid enough ( few surprises) that it can be a go-to plan when we want take out in a hurry. Food is good, staff are usually pleasant, and the selection is decent. Dependable is a good word for it. For times that we eat at the restaurant, generally a pleasant atmosphere but it can be loud at times. Take away food always has been ready when they said it would be. read more

I am very frustrated with this location. I had placed an order online at 6:30 PM (see attached photo) in the afternoon around 1:30 PM. I went to this restaurant early at 6:15, and the cashier said that there was NO order placed. I placed the order online so the restaurant should've received it. The cashier had to place the order normally and I didn't have my food as fast as I wanted it to. Horrible service and definitely some technical issues with the service. I didn't realize they do not have Apple Pay anymore, I did not have my card and am not from the area, I had some cash but was short a few bucks. The manager took money out of his own pocket to cover the rest that I owed for my meal. Super great people at this location! Highly recommend supporting them! This place rocks, now my only complaint is service !!! You have to serve yourself, which I hate in any resturant. Why pay to get up, get tea, get your tray, get your own silverware, napkins ???? In my book, its the worst mistake any resturant can make is to make its patrons serve themselves. Having said that, for a serve yourself, the food is great. And its the only serve yourself I will go to, because of the food. I love shrimp and lobster (not on the menu) but ask for it they make it great. This Pei Wei, in my opinion, has gone through a few phases since they opened a few years ago. In the beginning it would have probably gotten a 5 star rating (due to the killer customer service that's often associated with a brand new business), then it moved into a three star area once the initial excitement wore off and the high school apathy effect happened. It is now working it's way towards a four star rating as I can tell they're taking steps to better the experience. Like another reviewer mentioned, their take-out is top notch. If you tell them your phone number first they'll pull up your name, info, and even your last order. If you're anything like us, you order the same thing every time so when they ask "will you be having the usual?" its a really nice five star perk. So far, they've always gotten this element right and I don't think I've ever had a problem with the accuracy of an order. Also, the food quality at Pei Wei is really great. Its not like some of the mystery chicken thats filled with gristle and fat you often get at sketchy hole-in-the-wall Chinese places around here, and the vegetables at least seem very fresh. My problems with this Pei Wei center mostly on the front register service. I have an allergy to sesame seeds (you have no idea how unfortunate and frustrating that can be), and there used to be no problem when I'd order something sans seeds. If you've eaten much pan-Asian cuisine, you'll know those suckers are in everything, including the iced tea. The last few times when I've gone in I've asked to have them held and gotten the responses: "oh that doesn't have seeds in it" (it does, actually), and "the seeds are already part of the meal so we can't take them out" (despite the large shaker of seeds sitting on the counter. This makes me sad and has more recently made me stop going. It seems like a nit-picky thing but when its a case of being able to eat the food or not, to me that can be a deal-breaker. If they can get back to that excited grand-opening service quality, I'll be back! read more

At just under $10 a person for dinner it's not a bad price, but it just can't compare to all the other places you can get more or better Chinese food for less money. What I had was tasty, a honey chicken dish. It's similar to Panda Express in style, but you get less meat and more rice for about the same price. You order, pay, get a number, and then food... and the people you are eating with may or may not get their food at the same time. That was a little annoying to me. The best part was the fortune cookies cause you take as many as you want! I've been coming to Pei Wei out of impulse since surrounding restaurants are crowded, and this is not an exception for Pei Wei. Seats are always crowded; something with the floorplan of this place just makes it too tight for a fastfood restaurant. Sit on the booth side and you'll risk not being able to scoot out because tables are no more than a feet away from each other (unless you're daring and 'excuse me' your butt through). Food is not horrible-bad for a fastfood, but sometimes it just lacks consistency. Hot and sour soup we got today was coagulated; as if with too much starch added, texture (I can't believe I'm describing soup as TEXTURED) was bite-y, literally, globs of coagulated soup. Yuuck. Chicken pad thai was not too bad but noodles are consistenly overcooked. Orange chicken is pretty good. I like their vegetable rolls the best. The inside contains glass noodles, and this is really the best menu item so far. Just full of flavour and crunchiness. It is served with a from-the-jar sweet and sour sauce but I hate that, and it is good enough without it. Service is okay, could be better. Servers go around carrying the tray and looking for the table. They do have those neat ol' touchscreen cola machines. read more

Plus we ordered the crab puffs & they forgot the sauce which is critical when eating these. My thai wonton soup was barely warm. They neither included utensils or asked if I wanted any. When I called to say they forgot the sauce they were very unapologetic. This was the third time I've ordered in which food was sub-par. They say "3rd times a charm" well change that to 3rd time bad food means I won't be coming back to this Pei Wei. Seriously disappointed. I go here for lunch once in a while and always get the same thing, the pei Wei spicy chicken. It is very good. Their fried rice has too much red bell pepper taste so I usually get plain brown rice. I have tried the pad Thai which is good and my daughter always gets the chicken lettuce wraps which is very good. This is a step above most fast food type Chinese restaurants. When we got it home it appeared like they had just dug out the chicken and threw in some shrimp. I love Pei Wei. When I don't have the time or money to spend at PF Chang's this is where I go. We stopped off here for dinner the other day after shopping in the area. They have a couple new dishes, so I tried the small plate Lemongrass salad and the Caramel Chicken w/ brown rice. It was very, very good. M ordered Sweet and Sour Pork (his standby dish at all Asian restaurants) and they said they didn't serve pork. No pork? Weird. They have pork egg rolls, but no pork dishes. I know they have pork in Arizona because that is all M eats there! Anyway, the cashier said it was a religious thing in the area that certain people won't eat pork and won't even use utensils that have touched pork. Hmmm... maybe they should eat somewhere that doesn't normally serve pork???? Anyway, he had sweet and sour shrimp instead. I don't know if we were starving, but everything tasted really good. We also shared an edamame. What would Pei Wei be without edamame? The service was good, food was good, chai tea was good. Yay. Happy tummy. read more

I been here a few times, let's say at least 10 times in the past 3 years. It's always decent. The hot and sour soup is hit or miss. I came here Saturday with my family. They do assigned seating now. It worked out fine. Our food came quick, too quick. That's OK though. I don't expect too much from this place. The food was hot and cooked perfectly. We ordered lettuce wraps for appetizer. They were tasty and crispy. I had the tofu and veggies with Kung Pao sauce. Yum! The veggies were al dente- perfect! The tofu was thinly sliced and not soggy. My mother-in-law ordered the lo mien. I didn't taste it, but it looked kinda mushy. My husband had the beef rice bowl with Mongolian sauce. He said it was tasty and well cooked. Don't get too complicated or creative and you won't go wrong. I haven't tried any of the desserts here yet. Oh, and the staff is ALWAYS friendly, even when it's rush hour. I deducted a star because it's not always clean here. It's a family place and fast-paced so i can see how it might be difficult to keep up with cleaning. read more

I go there at least 1 to 2 x per week! I love it! I get everything now with white rice, but the fried rice by itself is delightful! I get a small size every time, & it fills me up! The staff are friendly, the place is clean, & I feel like I really get my money's worth! Most Asian places, are the same price, but I feel like Pei Wei's food is fresher & more healthy! They also have a lot of GF items on the menu, which is good! Love the Mandarin Orange Green Tea at Pei Wei! It is my favorite & I can get a refill there as much as I like when I dine in! Last night before going shopping at Baybrook Mall, the hubby and I stopped by for a quick bite to eat at Pei Wei. From what I understand this is PF Changs little sister restaurant. We decided on Pei Wei because a friend game me a $25 gift card for Christmas. We also decided to split something... trying to watch our waist line since Christmas is over and we need to lose those extra Christmas pounds. That's what I'm calling it anyway. After searching the menu for something that we could agree on... or in other words... something that I was ok with ordering. The hubs isn't as picky as I am so he is much more flexible when it comes to sharing. We decided on the veggie spring rolls, an order of fried rice and Mongolian beef. For those of you that haven't ever been to Pei Wei, you order at the counter, get your drink cups and an order number. Fill your drinks then have a seat and wait for your order to be delivered to your table. The food arrived all at one time. It was nice and hot... I don't know why but it seems like every time I have Asian food the temp is beyond HOT! This didn't disappoint but then again, if I order Asian food at it wasn't piping hot, I may have to send it back. So after waiting as long as I could... I mixed my sauce for my spring rolls then took a HUGE bite. It was soon obvious that I didn't wait quite long enough but even with that said... the spring rolls had a wonderful flavor. I recommend them. On to the fried rice. I'm not a huge fan of fried rice so all I can really say about it is... it didn't knock my socks off. I probably wouldn't have ordered it, but my hubby wanted it so... ya know! My favorite part of the meal was the Mongolian Beef. It was SUPER yummy!!! I love the way they cook the beef... it was perfect. And the sauce they use on it is terrific. Seems like every time I go to Pei Wei I stick with the Mongolian Beef... it is just too good to try something else. The portions were a nice size too... there was enough for us to have dinner AND lunches for BOTH of us the next day. Called in a to go order. The girl who took my order couldn't find it because she didn't ask for a name when I placed the order and the name associated with my number was incorrect. Common sense would be to ask what the order was instead of telling the customer perhaps you called the wrong location. So I'm already annoyed. Once I get my food I realize that the same thing I've been ordering since they opened has changed. So that's on me for not checking the website first. Paul McClain - Guest Relations Manager From the moment I walked in with a toddler to place our takeout order to the moment we sat down to eat at home, I have been thorougly impressed with Pei Wei Clear Lake as a whole...mainly because of Paul McClain. I was given the task of ordering for 4 other adults and 1 toddler with little to no knowledge of each person's preferences. Paul was extremely helpful in providing excellent suggestions. When the toddler asked for crayons & since Pei Wei does not provide crayons for children, Paul improvised & the toddler was happy...hence, I was happy. Since the order was large, Paul gave me a cup to get something to drink for the toddler. Even though the main part of the lettuce wraps was left out of our bag, I still am very happy with Pei Wei Clear Lake. Of course we were disappointed to not have the lettuce wraps when we got home, but as soon as I called the restaurant, the girl who packed my bag apologized profusely & told me that Paul chased after our car himself! When Paul realized the lettuce wraps were missing, he immediately credited my account, apologized, and provided me with a nice gift to make up for it. Although I live in Pearland, I am happy to visit the Pei Wei Clear Lake when I visit family because of their wonderful customer service. read more

Worst food experience I think I've ever had. Waited forever for food we never received ( except for ice cold starters) After a good 10-15 of waiting for our food we were at least acknowledged by the girl who gives out the food. She told us that we are waiting so long because of our white rice, do we want a different kind. We told her no but can we get our starters. She brought them ice cold. After that we started watching her and saw she wasn't wearing gloves, & touching /adjusting her mask . Then I saw my food sitting on the counter, uncovered, getting even colder then my starters were. I asked her " Is that my food sitting there uncovered and getting cold?" Her response "yes ma'am, we're just waiting on the rice" At that point we just got our money back.
