Came to this place a while back, and I loved it. If I remember, I had the bacon Avocado Benedict. I was tempted to order it again, because I knew I would be satisfied. All I can say is that Aunt bebop's Favorite (French toast with fruit, bacon and eggs) was perfect. The bacon is thick, crispy, and apparently applewood smoked. The chef made my eggs slightly over medium. That was a special request I had. I like the yellow to be slightly gelatinous. Chef made them perfect, which tells me his team's inner clock must be fine tuned. The place was packed, and having all of these items on the grill, while managing, I would imagine a massive backload of orders must have been difficult. Finally, the French toast... makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Three slices of French toast, topped with butter, powdered sugar, and whipped cream!!!!! (That was the best part). The slow service is the same, but the Hollandaise Sauce which was once on a par with the best in the area now comes out of a can or some horrible place. And, the home fries were undercooked. I couldn't finish the meal. I noticed a nearby table had ordered a waffle -- if you like soggy mushy waffles this may be your place. I'm only giving them 3 stars because the first meal we had was bland tasting and there was lipstick on my husband's coffee mug. I ordered a veggie sandwich and fries. Came here to eat a couple weeks ago for the first time and probably won't ever be back! My hubby ordered breakfast and I got the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, and salad. The waitress who took our order was nice and friendly and the brunette waitress with glasses brought our food out. I don't like tomatoes but my hubby does so I always pick them off for him to eat and because they used the ends of the tomatoes (stem ends) he didn't want them, so I picked them off. So the waitress who brought our food out told me "next time you should say no tomatoes and we won't put them on there"!! Hmmmm REALLY?? I felt like I had been scolded! I told her normally my hubby eats them! I should have showed her how to cut tomatoes because at home we cut the stems off! No thanks!! We will take a big pass on this place!! read more

I find it puzzling that Pelican Grill that just opened up in Friendswood is nowhere to be found on YELP. The only place to give a review is through their Seabrook restaurant which I have never been to. But if you are in Friendswood and want to try out this new breakfast or lunch restaurant you need to save yourself the trip. Like some of the other reviewers, I saw the Pelican Grill featured on the Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible" show. After seeing the show and already having a trip to the Houston area planned, I decided to check it out. I know that any restaurant can have a bad day, but this was a BAD day. Or maybe they're resting on their laurels after appearing on TV. I walked in about 1 p.m. on Saturday 4/28 and no one was at the hostess stand at the front door. Finally a waitress saw me and told me to sit down anywhere. I sat for maybe three minutes before another waitress brought a menu and took my drink order. The place was nearly full, which I thought was a good sign. That is until I had a chance to visit with the people sitting on either side of me. The couple to my right (who came because they had seen the R.I. episode) had been waiting 20 minutes for their appetizer of fried pickles. The order showed up five minutes later, burned. To my left was another couple, who told me they were regular visitors to the PG. They still had their menus and were waiting to order. About that time, the waitress brought my drink, took my order and the order of the couple on my left. It took 25 minutes, yes 25 minutes for my order (and the order of the couple to my left) to arrive. In the meantime, the couple to my right got their order. He got a burger, she got a salad (with the dressing in a plastic to-go container?!). Neither one finished their meal. As they left, he said to me "good luck getting your order." Glancing around the restaurant, I saw other tables waiting for their order. A couple at one table who had been waiting for food when I was seated. Another family of six at a table in front of me. Clearly there were some issues going on in the kitchen. Two of the sons of the owners were part of the crew taking care of customers. They were good at busing tables, but little else. In fact my waitress never came back after I got my meal to check on me. It just appeared to be very unorganized. My jalapeno burger and fries (when they finally came) were hot, fresh and reasonably tasty. But the lack of service and the kitchen issues showed me that apparently Chef Robert Irvine's hard work hasn't sunk in. And who should come out of the kitchen to apologize to the table of six in front of me? John Walker, the owner, who apparently had been cooking in the kitchen (I hope he washed his hands - if you don't know what I'm talking about, watch the R.I. episode). Most ironic of all was the card on the table which in part said "menu items inspired by Chef Robert IRVING". Oh Chef, I think it's time for a follow up visit! read more

Wow first off cute little mom and pop place thats hidden. They close at 3pm each day. They are a breakfast all day brunch and lunch place with different variety of foods. A quick update to previous reviews. New ownership has infused a lot of positivity in this place. I went for lunch (breakfast is their specialty) and there was a stream of regular crowd. I knew they were regulars because the people running the restaurant (maybe owners and/or their friends) called them all by first name and in one case, knew their regular order. I got the Killer Club, it was very very good. Unique in its assembly (four triple decker sections of different meats on each deck) and great specialty mayo to give it kick (and I don't like mayo). It came with a side of fries, rings, salad, or mashed potatoes. I took the mashers and did not regret. The lunch menu is limited, which is okay. Seems like they might focus on either sandwiches OR grill, having a few options on each didn't work for me. Given the sandwich options, I'd like to see a grill (5-10 hot items, burgers, cheese steaks, chicken, etc.). I have full confidence their breakfast is solid, several folks there at lunch were taking advantage of their "Breakfast served until 2p" mantra (it closes at 2p). It's not a place to whip in and get quick service, the folks working it are doing their best, but it's more of a stop in and visit leisurely. The service was very friendly and enjoyable. The food was very good. I had scrambled eggs, which I asked for cheese to be added, and there was tons of cheese, all mixed in and not just sprinkled on top. I also asked for my bacon to be crisp and it was perfect. The serving of hash browns was a little meager, but maybe I'm just use to being served portions sizes that are too large anyway! The biscuit was not too impressive, I wish I had gotten the wheat toast because my sister-in-law got it and it looked amazing, like homemade bread. My dad said his sourdough breakfast sandwich was really tasty. I tasted my mom's pancakes and they were really outstanding. Maybe the best part of this place is the price! So cheap!
