After years of anticipation what a waste of Newport Beach real estate. We had the idea to go here for a drink at The Pendry Bar to celebrate the weekend enjoy the afternoon and and compare it to the new Marriott Vea. The Pendry is horrible !!! So it's a Sunday December 10 @ 5:00 pm we went to the Bar. The Pendry bar is almost empty. 2 Bartenders and one server. We waited 10 minutes at a table to be served.... Crickets, nothing nada! We moved to the bar and both bartenders disappeared and the came back to serve a couple that came in after us. Terrible service. After another 5 minutes of waiting---still NO service. These two bartenders are dense and do not care a little about what they do for a living. There are 7 valets, 4 front desk staff, 6 hosts at the Steak and Sushi and a greeter. All wasted with no one present to actually engage the customer. We walked out and went somewhere else. Upon departure no one asked how our vista was. When The Island Hotel was here we hosted a large family event in the Grand Ballroom. That was an amazing experience. Don't come here. Go to Pelican, Vea, Terranea, Montage. The Pendry is a joke! read more

Ridiculous. Horrible food and service. Reservation was 7:30. Didn't get seated till 7:55. Food took over an hour to be served and the place was empty. Food came out cold. Waste of time and money. After an hour management decided to make an appearance. Shame on you. I don't mind paying for a meal but this was horrible on all counts. If I could give a negative 10, I would. My husband and I visit Newport frequently for work and to see friends who live in the area and have stayed at several hotels but were excited to try the new Pendry as it looked very impressive online. Unfortunately, the hotel fell short of our expectations. First, many of the listed amenities were different then presented. A gym with peloton was just a converted hotel room and no peloton to be found. Ocean views were just a sliver of the coast behind a mall parking lot. And the pool was quite small and clearly from the old hotel with drinks served in plastic cups with plastic straws-- it felt like a $200 or less per night hotel pool. Additionally, the food poolside was average, but room service and breakfast at the restaraunt was bad. Our simple breakfast order took forever to make and then was incorrect and not what we asked for. Whilehotel room had some nice features but overall seemed to have kept most of the old former hotel and did not seem fresh or new as we had expected. We also immediately let them know are phone in the room didn't work and told them twice more over the course of our stay but it was never fixed and we had to call to the lobby on our personal phones for room service and other issues. We also had to call and ask them to come clean our room because housekeeping never came despite us being gone all day with no do no to disturb on door and they were fairly dismissive and only begrudgingly sent someone. Overall, the food, bathroom, pool, and a lot of the service seemed to be more on par with a lower level of hotel. Not worth the money. read more

The Pendrey seems nice at first glance, but the service at the bar area is disappointing. Also discovered that after9 PM, they make you wait in line, letting in only four people every 10 minutes, regardless of occupancy. Our party of 8 celebrating a birthday, had to wait almost an hour. The Pendry bar managment prioritizes letting in attractive women while making everyone else wait. Enjoys giving free drinks to some attractive ladies while charging everyone else ~ $25 for a mixed drink. Disappointed, we left and went to another local bar restaurant which was much enjoyable and affordable. Perception: the drinks are overpriced, and the bar area has a noticeable presence of professional women at work. While the staff is generally nice we definitely don't recommend this place with the current management style. Unless you like to pay for high price drinks, food and made to wait unnecessarily. If you wish to sit be prepared to pay for expensive bottle service. read more

Food was amazing the ambience was great too, there is a guy work there his name is Valentine so sweet and hard worker he was making drinks so wonderful but unfortunately the lady working at the bar her name is Lauren she has attitude and not helpful at all. Stayed this weekend and it was an incredible experience. I've stayed at other Pendry locations in the past and this one is the best from my experience. Elite Service from all the staff. The bar is one of the busiest and liveliest locations in Newport. We went down to the Triangle but we might as well have stayed in the hotel bar. The rooms were excellent and refreshed. Will definitely be returning in the summer for the pool! read more

Stayed here for a weekend earlier this year, and frankly, loved it. Great service all around. Very nice fitness center with peloton and all-new treadmills, weights, and machines. Steak restaurant was superb. Friday nights are a bit loud as their bar is quite a scene, but other than that, a fantastic stay. Would definitely recommend to others and will probably return again this year. read more

The bar and restaurant scene there is very good. The service from everyone at the hotel was very good. As I checked out I noticed on my bill there was a $45 resort fee and a $60 charge for overnight parking which is the same price as you would pay in New York or Tokyo or at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Hotel is in the middle of a mall in Orange County will probably 100,000 extra parking spaces so obviously a rip off. More or less, it's consumer fraud. They advertise a room for $495 but in reality it's more than $600. The rooms are a decent remodel with old bathrooms and the hallways smell like the chemicals from the new carpets. Room size is good. If you want to stay at a hotel that is not very good, but has all of the action going on then go for it. If you want a much nicer hotel experience, then stay somewhere else and go to the Pendry for drinks or dinner and uber there. read more

Beautiful spot! I love the location and the atmosphere! You do have to pay for Valet so make sure you come with cash and tip the guys that take care of your car. :) Food is great, and very friendly staff! This place is so good! We came in with no reservation, looking like bums from a week of road tripping already, and booked a corner suite with an ocean view. Karchell and Jessica were absolutely fantastic! Super welcoming, told us all the things we needed to know, and had fun conversation. The bellmen, and the valet guys were also super attentive! My husband had gotten some of their names and then lost them, and only remembers Chris! But they were all so good! We also ate at SET the steak and sushi restaurant and were super happy there as well. The room was gorgeous and immaculate, the bathroom could have been slightly more luxurious, but nothing to complain about. The two balconies were so nice, getting that breeze through the open doors was so nice! Room service was some of the best I've had, the steak was far superior to the one I had at the VEA a few nights before, and our cousin was able to order the duck from SET and have it delivered to the room! Also, the shopping, right across the street.. Dreamy! I could probably go on, but basically I can't wait for my next stay! Thanks to everyone for making it memorable! read more

I stayed at this hotel twice in the last two months and both stays were lovely. It's quickly become my preferred hotel when in the area. The rooms and spaces are all newly renovated and the lobby restaurants and bars are not to miss. What a sleek property - totally unexpected, and welcome. The staff were extremely friendly from the valet to housekeeping. My first stay was with my parents as second stay with my husband and nieces and all age groups enjoyed the hotel. There's a great pool area, the bar is a highly sought after venue (even for locals), and there's a great variety of food and beverage options. Love the design and chic mod feel. They are also very pet friendly as my puppy joined me for both stays and was welcomed with a doggy bed and food/water bowl. Another plus.. they are across the street from Fashion Island with all great shopping and dining options. Looking forward to another stay in the near future! read more

Austin is a true reflection of what the Pendry is all about--hospitality over the top! Michael at the pool follows in his footsteps, and of course Erik at the pool bar makes the best French 75 in all of the OC, and beyond. Makes sure Matt and Steve take care of the luggage because they are bot incredible people who care. Absolutely a rip off! From the valet to the restaurants. Do not come to this establishment!

I just had dinner. I ordered a gin Bombay martini as a cocktail. It was fine. I had the chicken and it was fine. The service was good. When I got the check I was stunned. They charged me $36 for the Martini. $36. I thought it was a typo. I asked the bartender and he confirmed the price for one martini is $36. That means with a standard 20% tip the price is really $43.20. Hard to believe. I asked to speak with the manager and he was very accommodating and mentioned something about Las Vegas making these decisions. They never mentioned that my Martini would cost over $40 with tip. I am not price sensitive but want a fair deal. I feel they are running a clip joint. Who is in charge of something like this? All the other high end restaurants in Newport charge $18 to $20 for the same drink. The fact they didn't tell me they were going to charge me over $40 for the drink is outrageous. They lost my trust. These things always come back to haunt you. You can't rip people off without it coming back at you. If I tell one person I will tell 1000 that this place is a clip joint. Greed can create short term gains but always comes back to bite you. My daughter and son in law were going to stay at the hotel for Thanksgiving. I told them this story and they changed their reservation to the Montage. Newport is a small community. They word will spread about this place and their greed. Beware. They know they are ripping people off. I feel sorry for the employees who seem nice and engaged. I doubt they see any benefit in their paycheck from their pecuniary malfeasance. I've sitting here for 30 min w/3 bar tenders walking by me on a Monday night and can't get their attention to save your life! Took me 30 min to just get a food menu and after an hour. No one will take my order. Not even a drink! I've tried to flag someone down about 12 times but the staff just ingores you! On purpose! Don't waste your time or money on this overrated place with overpriced food and stuck up millenial staff who don't give a "F" about you! Go to Joey right around the corner. Better, attentive staff. BED BUGS IN ROOM 1612. I can't even believe I'm writing this review on the Pendry as I specifically picked it for it's cleanliness and good service. We stayed there about a week ago and every time my husband and I travel (we are always traveling around the country for work and stay in 4-5 star hotels 9/10 times) I have safety precautions to avoid situations like this one so we don't contract ringworm, bedbugs, among many other disgusting things. Like usual, we keep our luggage away from furniture in the room usually the bathroom since if there IS bedbugs in a hotel, this is the only place they cannot infest your things (IYKYK). Foolishly, I didn't check the mattress as thoroughly as I normally do on all sides and under. Fast forwards to a couple days later, little red bumps are appearing everywhere on my husband and I and at first I'm thinking it's ringworm since it seems to be everywhere these days. For a few days now we've been applying ringworm topical meds to the bites and they haven't gotten better like usual with ringworm they just keep getting bigger and itchier. Today, went to our Dr. Who confirmed they're bedbug bites. I'm not the first person to complain about bedbugs in Pendry Newport. On TripAdvisor, you will find another review by someone else with the same experience staying in other rooms who complained about bedbugs two months ago. So that tells you not only does this hotel have a bedbug issue, they haven't resolved it at all and seem not to care. In fact, in the other persons review they said the Pendry just offered them another room, MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE. So the other room can then get infested to by the bugs traveling on your guests or in luggage??? Disappointing but let this be a warning to future guests. read more

When this place first opened, service wasn't as horrible as it is now. I came here on a Saturday night (12/23) and expected to wait in line for a bit before getting to the bar. Right when my gf's & I entered after valeting our cars, we were stopped (not greeted) by someone who I later found out whose name was Christian, the supervisor. He told us if we didn't have a room reservation, we'd have to go around and get in line. Ohhhhhhkayyyyy, but can you say it nicer? No, because Christian had an inflated ego where he felt like he needed to exert himself in a rude dominant way to make up for ridiculous ways he'd been treated outside of work, as an unimportant nobody. There were probably 15 people in front of us & we were told it would take over an hour to get in. Ok whatever we waited. Later, when I decided to go to the bathroom, my 2 gf's had gotten in. They both came back out to get me & we were told that I would have to get back in line again because I had left the line. Wtf??? I was furious at this point. This guy then decided to tell me if I didn't want to do what he said, I could go talk to Christian. So i had to talk to this puny guy, again? Before I could talk to Christian, his little backup Neo appeared out of nowhere, telling me "we don't need your business". WOW, really? I've never heard of a hospitality group hiring such unprofessional, inexperienced, incompetent individuals to be the face of their company. I've never experienced such humiliating & disappointing service from an establishment who dare calling themselves the ultimate staycation spot, serving the locals of Newport Beach. What a waste of luxury real estate!!!!!!!!!! What a waste of my time...& all the money my husband & I have spent here. It's exactly this type of incompetence & carelessness of management that keep driving down & crippling most hospitality businesses. Who runs this property anyway? If you're reading this, please let go of these useless people you put in charge of your lines or the least teach them a thing or two about professionalism & uhhh hospitality in this line of business. After all, it is patrons like ourselves who gave these Christians of the world their jobs. read more

3 stars is being generous. I live in the area and "Pendry" has been all the rage....until I checked it out for myself. Everyone is 50+ (no offense to anyone over the age of 50 just describing the crowd) and dressed for a gala but with really bad fashion taste. Looks like LA came through. It was very busy around 9pm on a Saturday. We waited about 10 minutes at the bar just to get the servers attention, then it took another 10/15 minutes to get our drinks!!! We almost walked out. Nothing special honestly, very expensive drinks that were not good and extremely loud. Have to say the service was horrible for how expensive it is!! Sorry will not be coming back here again! They were accommodating, went above and beyond, & were so kind. Every single person we encountered while staying here was SO nice (we even commented on it our last day). When the hotel opened, I went into the hotel to make a reservation for a birthday lunch. I was told that the dining room is not open for lunch but a reservation could be made around the pool. As the date approached, I called and went in to see what the alternative would be offered since bad weather was predicted. I spoke to two concierges and one manager - all who promised to call me with either an alternative or at least an update. Not only have I emailed the concierge twice, I also have patiently waited for return calls from the manager as well. No responses have occurred... we're going elsewhere where we will be welcomed and served. read more

We had brunch outside and the ambiance is wonderful and chairs are very comfortable ! However the drinks are ridiculously overpriced and not good at all! I've stayed at the Pendry now twice this year. It's very nice and posh for the city vibe of NPB. But I received truly amazing guest service. Georgia at check-in is really lovely and amazing. Efficient, personable and wonderful. The Room service staff was so caring!! I was sick and honestly, everyone was so incredibly nice to me at the Pendry. Lauren the waitress: I was having dinner with friends that drove from SanDiego and Los Angeles to catch up. We sat down to enjoy our dinner and drinks. However we had to leave the lounge area after waiting for almost 2 hours after telling Lauren (waitress) to take our drink order. We asked a bus-boy to remind the waitress we were waiting for drinks, he did and she went off to fluff pillows. I then got up and went to the bar as it was obvious that Lauren was not finding the time to take our drink orders. As I order my drink Lauren is talking to the bartender apologizes for not taking our drinks and said she'd comp our drinks . Adriel the bartender at 8:00 to 9:00 night shift on Saturday 9/28/24 interrupted her and said, "no no no I am charging their drink,(turn to me ) to the room or are you closing out". I felt as if I had done something wrong or I was not seen. When I asked the bartender for his name he said, Adrile, What? what? what? like he wanted to confront me about something. I wanted to say that I was extremely excited about this outing but the service was rude and my kind did not feel welcomed thus thank you but no thank you for leaving a bad taste in my mouth. read more

They aren't ready for prime time, at least not for a large gathering. Food is excellent. Food arrived at different times for guests at the same table. My rib eye which came with a slice of roast tomato was excellent. The salmon looked good. Unfortunately the side dishes arrived after I finished and my place was cleared. read more
