We loved our room, the fact the hotel is pet friendly, and how close it is to Fashion Island. However, we were woken up at 2am on our first night to a drunk man yelling for over an hour in the hallway. I'm surprised security didn't kick him out considering it was disrespectful and loud. Then on our last night (Wednesday) we were not forewarned that's when Pendry has their club night in the lobby and it was loud all the way up to the highest floor. Our stay wasn't as relaxing as we had hoped. I'm not sure I would return. read more

I booked an ADA room has I have Parkinson's and use a walker. When I went into the bathroom and grabbed a handrail it broke right off the wall, causing me to fall. I had to crawl out of the bathroom to a chair. I called the front desk and they sent up 2 people in suits who had no idea how to fix it. Eventually a maintence man came and I asked to check the bars in the shower as well. They both broke off. This is a room for disabled people, we count on those bars. After 3 hours and it's now 11pm they told me they did not have all the right parts and it would be another 45 minutes. I was there because I had an 8am test with my doctor in the morning and needed to be rested. I just finally told them to leave. I was supposed to stay another night but I packed up and left in the morning . They never once offered me another room, something to drink or even to say they were sorry. I used American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts and their hotels are usually wonderful. A week later I received a call from a gentleman named Riley who was very rude and dismissive. When in the OC- Favorite hotel to date Had a beautiful stay. They truly go all out with the VIP white glove service at this luxury hotel...literally from the moment you pull in. The room and views were gorgeous. The grounds were immaculately kept. The property was centrally located and in such a great area of Newport Beach...close to Fashion Island, Crystal Cove, Laguna Beach, Balboa Island to name a few...we took advantage of their complimentary car service (they allow you to drive one of their vehicles during your stay with a partnership with Cadillac- we chose the XT6). We also attended a banquet in their grand ballroom. Beautiful. All of the event staff were friendly, accommodating and professional. There are so many other amazing amenities that we didn't get to enjoy on our short trip (spa, restaurants, lounges, complimentary e-bikes etc) so we'll definitely be back just for that alone. The hotel is a complete scam. All they wanna do is sell you bar products. They make it a pet friendly hotel yet you can't put a 2 inch can of dog food in the refrigerator because it's full of $10,000 worth of mini bar products if you touch it your bill will be charged $1000. They have signs about selling everything but they're not able to tell you that the items in the mini bar sensors so if you touch it with your finger, you will be charged. Secondly, the lighting system is set on one dimmer so that you can't leave a physical light on in the room. The room is pitch black and I fell down twice and injured myself because you can't see or physically turn on a light. The hotel is all about selling products and is a three star boutique Hotel definitely not a four seasons quality hotel. I would never stay here again. The reception doesn't even care to help you. The hotel was clean but I have never experienced worse service at a luxury hotel. 10/10 of the interactions with staff were very poor, as if nobody cared to assist guests. The valet is mandatory and 70$ per night per car. Every time I went to get my car the valet seemed annoyed and did not have any urgency. All on site dining / bars made me get up to find the staff because nobody would come wait on us after being seated. Room service never came to clean my room all weekend, even though I called. I had to chase down the housekeeper for new towels. For the price, not worth it with such poor service. read more

I booked a staycation here two weeks ago for two nights. I stayed zero nights because of the most bat droppings crazy thing I've ever experienced at a hotel, let alone a "5 star" hotel. I checked in on a Saturday and after dropping off my stuff in my room I headed downstairs to the main bar for a drink. I didn't realize it but this is apparently the only place in Newport for all the local pretentious jerks hang out. I had one drink then headed over to The Elwood private club that I was given access to as part of my stay. Inside I was pleased to find a much mellower atmosphere. A live band was playing jazz. I sidled up to the corner of the bar with a direct view of the band. It was marvelous, I was by myself, having a drink, watching live music, minding my own GD business. It was an unfortunately fleeting setting. As I was watching the band, two early 20s couples walked in from the lounge area. One couple went off somewhere and of the couple left, I noticed the young man was extremely intoxicated. They were positioned between myself and the lounge/stage so I couldn't help but notice. The girlfriend wandered off somewhere and now the young guy was left just sort of standing there, wobbling in place. At this point this guy takes notice of me and I could tell, for whatever reason, he didn't like the cut of my jib and I became his project. He kind of sauntered over to me and then did this extremely weird overly fake slow motion stumble and then started touching my white kicks going, "ahhhh what's happening...I'm falling....a man sorry I touched your shoes. Those are some really nice shoes, so white." I just chuckled and said, "All good, bro." And continued drinking my drink, watching the band. The kid then decided to sidle up to the bar right next to me. I turned to the bartender and ordered another drink. As I'm standing there drinking my drink, this kid was just staring at me, not saying anything, just super weird energy of contempt. I ignored him and sipped my drink. Then, still staring at me says, "You're a effing b-word." (I am self-censoring the actual language). Well. Now he had my attention. I immediately confronted him and asked why he called me a "effing b-word" and he immediately denied it so I asked if he was calling the bartender (a female) a effing B or was it me, because he definitely called one of us a effing B. One thing that really stood out during this heated conversation was he was oddly at ease. I found out why very soon. The kid put his hand on me telling me to calm down, I removed his hand from me and firmly returned it to his personal space. At that moment security swooped in and IMMEDIATELY came in and positioned themselves in a manner like he was POTUS' son. The kid said that I "pushed him to the ground" which was a lie and the lead security guy took that as the whole story. I'm explaining the sequence of events to the security lead and I look at the bartender like, "hey, are you going to back me up?" but she was tight lipped yet I could tell she was very angry that she (it seemed) was not at liberty to speak, and the security lead had no desire to ask for her statement. In short, security told me that I could stay if I apologized to the kid, or I had to leave. I left, went upstairs, grabbed my stuff, and headed down to valet. As I was walking from the elevators to valet, I was met by the security lead who decided enough smack hadn't been talked to me, so he talked smack to me as I walked out. Luckily I live only an hour away so I wasn't forced to stay under such hostile conditions and I returned the next morning to cancel my second night and see what, if anything, was to be done to rectify the situation. Introduce, Austin. If you've read over some of the other negative reviews you will know this big pile of manure by now. Austin came out to talk to me and he had this air of "you are a complete waste of my time". Austin said he was briefed by security, that I was the bad actor, but that he hadn't yet reviewed the security footage and he would refund me for the first night if he determined otherwise. I laughed because I knew there was no way I was getting my money back no matter how clearly the video proved me right. Sure enough, it's been two weeks and I haven't received any communication from Austin and was not issued a refund. As for the room itself, it was okay, definitely not 5 star hotel quality. You can tell this was a reno of an old building. For example, there was only one sink in the bathroom which is on the smaller side. More problematic, though, is that the Corner Ocean View One Bedroom Suite description expressly states, "Located at the end of the hallways away from elevators." Imagine my surprise when my room was LITERALLY the first room next to the elevators just a few feet away and not at the end of the hallway. I was treated to a truly Orwellian explanation by the front desk staff that lacked any grounding in logic or reality and offered no adjustment. read more

My word. Pendry Newport Beach takes luxury to a whole new level. This was the hotel of choice for a work event and I was blown away by the hospitality. The rooms were incredibly comfortable, clean, and luxurious. The food was outstanding too. I'm convinced that everyone who works at the Pendry has some kind of special training too because they LIVE their culture through every interaction. My stay was relaxing and comfortable. It sounds odd but I felt cared for by their entire team. Pendry is worth a visit and I would return. Accommodations were the best I've ever experienced!! read more

Pendry opened on October 4th, 2023. This is the former Fashion Island Hotel so they are inheriting what was. I still see this place needing some revamp as there are items in disarray and falling apart, at least on some of the 1st floor facilities but I can tell this is getting some type of makeover by some areas with fresh paint smell. This place definitely has some potential to be great and with the Pendry name, I think it's just a matter of time. Verdict - it would be cool to stay here someday. But for now, the bar area sufficed. Someday the resto and the hotel. But good impressions so far. Keep working to make this better Pendry folks! read more

This is based on my hotel stay, doesn't include anything about the club or restaurants. First off, the place is beautiful. When we got there we got upgraded, perhaps because someone rented the entire hotel out for a wedding guest. But, omg a friggin upgrade for free? why not. The room had two giant tv's, a living room, dinning room, bar, kitchen with a fridge, two bathrooms and two showers. We had 3 balconies! The front desk was on top of it with recommendations for where to eat and drink. We had an issue with the tv and they sent engineering up right away with my boy MATTHEW! He had to have the cable provider do an update which would take some time but for our patience we got a nice bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries. When we first arrived we had a orange chocolate concoction with nuts and betties and cookie crumbles on the outside. We also hit the hotel spa and it was awesome. We did cbd oils with warm rocks and now we are totally beat up but it was relaxing. I checked out the fitness room and they had recyclable headphones. Everything was very well done. My only complaint is I didn't have enough money to tip everyone what they deserved. Fantastic stay! And I have stayed all over OC and San Diego. read more

Stylish hotel with a pool, restaurant on-site, and spacious indoor/outdoor gym. Stayed here for a work offsite and it was an enjoyable stay. Valet is required; note that there is a way for you to order your car ahead of time so you don't have to wait in-person. The pool was larger than I expected and there is also a hot tub. The gym had theragun massage guns, provided recyclable ear phones, and also did have a water station. The room I stayed in was spacious and had a couch enclave that was cute. Some of my colleagues mentioned that they were unable to sleep due to the noise from the bar/restaurant, but I was fine on the 7th floor. I did find the mattress a bit too firm but otherwise the room was good. Toiletries are provided but they didn't smell as good as I hoped they would; also these come in large containers so you shouldn't take them out of your room unless you intend to purchase them. read more

My sweet husband booked a room for us for a mini staycation! We were attending an event at the Irvine Barclay theater and he decided to surprise me with a beautiful dinner at Fashion Island, a room at the beautiful Pendry Newport Beach and a concert! Yes, I'm a lucky girl. The Pendry was recently renovated and this luxurious upgrade was evident in all of the magnificent decor and appointments. We were warmly greeted at reception and welcomed to the Pendry. The cheery associate checked us in and graciously offered us their signature beverage (Green Tea, Orange Juice, and Sparking Water) which was delicious! She advised us that the welcome beverage could be taken to the bar and with the secret phrase she provided, the bartender could add a complimentary shot of whatever spirit we would like! How clever and generous is this! Once our checkin was complete, and our welcome beverage provided the associate came out from around the desk and walked us over to the elevators and pointed out the beautiful bar and restaurant. We made our way up to our room which was BEAUTIFUL. The room was spacious, modern, and meticulously appointed. The view was expansive and the ocean could still be spotted even with the clouds and rain! We got ready for our event and headed out for the night. After our concert (11pm) we made our way back to the hotel thinking we'd have nightcap in the bar before retiring to our room. This is were out visit started to unravel. As we turned into the driveway to the hotel we were met with a line of cars... many were Uber drivers dropping off people. As we sat in our car waiting for our turn to drop our vehicle at the valet we studied the people coming into the hotel and we wondered where they were going as it appeared to be a sort of "party crowd". Once we delivered our vehicle at the valet and we made our way into the lobby it was clear that the hotel is a night-spot by night. It was no longer the tranquil and upscale experience from earlier. There were lot's of people in the bar and in the sitting area, there was music playing, and a vibe that we would have probably appreciate 30 years ago. Given the tone at the bar we passed on the nightcap and made our way up to our room. Somewhere around 1am the constant sound of loud... very loud motors being started brought around to the valet commenced. And... the sounds continued from 1am-3am... one loud motor after the next for the next 2-hours. If you look at the photographs I took, our room was on the 11th floor directly above the entrance/valet. The sounds of those sports cars was unimaginably loud. Lastly, throughout the entire night there was a constant popping sound coming from above the headboard. We are assuming that the popping sounds was perhaps the backlighting on the headboard. Not sure if it was the lighting cooling down, or perhaps an electrical short... it was very disruptive and on a couple occasions startled us awake. So, there you have it. We woke up at 8am after 5-hours sleep and headed out to breakfast as the hotel does not open their restaurant for breakfast. It is important to add thought that the hotel does offer complimentary coffee and pastries in the lobby in the morning. My husband and I chuckled about our experience. The Pendry can be a 5-star hotel if it can eliminate/manage the party scene at night. Or, it can be the most beautiful and happening party scene in the OC but will sacrifice the discerning guest passing on staying here. My opinion is that the Pendry can't be both especially when the party scene is not a separate area away from the lobby, elevator, and hotel guests. Presently, the elevators do not require a room key for access. This is a problem for me because anyone who comes in off the street to party/drink can jump into an elevator and make their way around the hotel unsupervised. Not good. read more

When I arrived later that night after a delayed flight, I was told by a rude staff member that the hotel was at capacity -- even though my family was staying there. This is our second time staying at the super chic Pendry in Newport. We came once for New Year's Eve (wow it was so fun and packed with beautiful people having a great time) and again for spring break. We brought our daughter the second time and it was the perfect stay for us to go to Disneyland and do some fun things around Newport for her Spring break. While at the pool my daughter was asking for a milk shake. Unfortunately, there was no milkshake on the menu. Well apparently at the Pendry all you have to do is ask. Jennifer (a manager) was standing near by and let me know she will find a way to get my daughter a milkshake! Within 10 minutes she was walking out to the pool delivering a delicious chocolate milkshake to my daughter! Now that's what I call amazing customer service! However, we arrived into the room late after dinner, and we were woken up around 2:00am by this loud continuous sound that went on the rest of the time there. Literally couldn't sleep all night long which was a horrible experience after spending what we spent. Karchell was fantastic and so great at check in and we had the pleasure of checking out with her too. She was attentive and so sweet. Beatrice was great too--she was so fun to talk with while she was making my iced oat milk latte! Henry and Christopher at the pool bar were also awesome--they were great to chat with, they recommended good eats, personally I loved the mole chicken tacos, and they were overall good energy. While in the pool Jack and Allison were so great-attentive, kind, and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Great experience for sure--the bartenders were all fantastic too. The Pendry Bar was a total scene and it was enjoyable to observe all the different people coming in there. The rooms were fantastic--we were in a King Suite facing the ocean which was lovely. I appreciated all of the extra touches in the room and the cake the team left inside for my partner's birthday! I feel like SET should stay open later than 10:30 on a weekend evening which is my only recommendation. read more
