I've been ordering take-out from this restaurant for the past couple years. They are quick, efficient, and clean. Their prices are very reasonable. I usually order their chicken pad Thai with mango sticky rice. The pad Thai comes in a pretty big portion - I usually finish it in 2 sittings. And the mango sticky rice is absolutely delicious, every time. This restaurant is tucked away on a corner plaza by Sunset & Gibson so its easy to miss. The papaya salad definitely deserves 5 stars. Unfortunately, the other dishes we got were not great. I got Massaman curry which was very watery and light in curry flavor. My husband got the boat noodle soup which he felt had way too much blood, which caused a non pleasing texture on the noodles - almost like the soup scum hadn't been removed. The menus were quite dirty, as well as the fish tank in the front of the restaurant - you could even smell the algae. This which made us a bit concerned about the cleanliness of the kitchen. Beef noodle soup tasted homemade, wish they had hoisin and sirarcha so I could add it but I just ate it plain. It was a cold night when I was out, the warmth from the soup was comforting. I ordered crab rangoons and summer rolls. I didn't want a super heavy lunch so I figured some items to share would be good. First off I noticed the packaging of the to-go boxes was incredibly thoughtful. Not only did my crab rangoons have foil to keep them warm, but the summer rolls were wrapped in foil to keep them cool! The rangoons were amazing. Cooked to perfection and the sauce was unique. It was almost a citrus sauce with pineapple or something similar. I am used to just a simple chile sauce or sweet and sour usually for rangoons, so to see something different was unexpected but welcomed. It was really tasty. The summer rolls were equally as good. My only complaint is they were a little over powered with mint. I had to pull a lot of mint out because it became too minty. The veggies were fresh and the rolls were packed to the brim. There are so many things that I like about Penn's Thai House. The food is delicious, the service is excellent and the prices are extremely reasonable. That's the broad overview so I'll drill down a bit. Last night, I went to the movies with my daughter and the movie didn't end until 8:30. We drove straight over to the restaurant after, hoping the'd be willing to take a to-go order 15 minutes before closing. They asked us if we would prefer to dine in. I said we would but we didn't want to keep them. They said they'd seat guests right up until closing time. We were delighted. We have been turned away from other Thai restaurants (Archi's) half an hour before closing and they refused to even take a to-go order so the invitation to dine in so late in their day was much appreciated. I've now eaten there twice and each time the food has been fresh, well prepared and delicious. The person serving us has been friendly and helpful and the fact that their prices are very reasonable and they are located near where we go to the movies frequently makes this a solid win for us. Everything was made fresh, and everything was super tasty! My favorite was the tofu pad Thai, and the garlic chicken! I'm not really sure what to rate this... After reading many reviews I had high hopes. But upon arrival and reading the menu I was very confused considering chow mein and beef and broccoli are not Thai. So now I am skeptical... I only ordered two dishes. Here's where my disappointment sets in... the crispy garlic chicken.. what do you imagine it will be?? It came in a bread basket with a banana leaf which I thought was odd presentation. But to stay on track, it was a bowl of sugar. Yes, it was crispy.. but I did not find a garlic flavor. It was literally candied chicken. I ate two pieces and couldn't fathom eating any more. I've never had a Thai dish with this much sugar but I have had multiple Chinese dishes slathered in sugar and sauce.
