One of my surprising finds on Yelp. I was trying to figure out what to serve at a company morning meeting. A coworker suggested breakfast burritos but I decided to go with breakfast croissant sandwiches. Yelp found Penny Donuts which was very close to the office. The friendly staff helped me order the croissant goodies the week before the meeting. I ended up ordering 30 croissant sandwiches all with egg, cheese, and meat (choice of plain, ham, bacon, or sausage). I also picked up some donuts to go for "quality control" purposes. They were both fresh so I was encouraged about the sandwiches. On the day of the meeting, I headed over there 15 mins before the start of the meeting. My order was ready to go. While heading back, the delicious smell was permeating my car. Everyone gave positive comments to the egg, cheese, and meat ration, the taste, and texture. At first, I thought, OK, that's weird....we're Asian, aren't you supposed to bring eggrolls....or maybe even wingstop? A delicious hole in the wall! Right off the bat, this place left a lasting impression with their remarkable speedy service! There was a constant stream of customers coming in, but the man at the register was able to take two orders at once! And checked out each customer with the fastest time I've ever seen. There was a woman in the kitchen who would hear the next order and start toasting bread, prepping eggs and wrap sandwiches with lightning fast fingers. Everyone was in and out in a matter of minutes. I think I spent a total of 8 minutes max, from the time I walked in, debated over the menu, ordered and walked out with a piping hot delicious breakfast sandwich. The eggs are fluffy and cooked to perfection. The croissants are flaky and buttery. And another impressive note, the Asian American man at the register learned Spanish to cater to his population of Latino customers! If you're in the area, you gotta stop by! read more

I gave this donut shop two chances to provide acceptable customer service and was disappointed both times. I went in last week, asked for two regular dozen assorted. Knowing the typical donut routine I was prepared for the minute or two for the person put the donuts in the box, to my surprise a worker by the register pulls a box out of nowhere saying "here you go". I said I just ordered two dozen, the person said yes we have two dozen ready already. I said ok, then the second surprise, the person says that will be $20.20. "Uh, the board up there says a dozen is $9.00?" I say. "Yes, this box has special donuts in it" the person says. To his credit, he did ask me if I wanted a different box. Not wanting to now wait for what I originally ordered, I scraped the extra $2.20 out of my pocket and headed on my way. Fast forward one week, I go back to give this business another chance. Going in I ask for two regular dozen. Wow! No surprise box this time, the worker starts loading up the box. As the person is putting the donuts in the box I double check the board to make sure a dozen is still $9.00, yep still $9.00 cool. Box makes its way to the register and the person types a few time, looks at me and says "that will be $20.20". WHAT? I say. I asked for two dozen "regular" donuts. Perfect opportunity for this business to say, "our bad" special donut is on us. Nope, dude grabs the box pulls out the special donut and replaces it with a different one, and appropriately charges me $18. Walking out wondering why I gave this place another chance it occurred to me, that's one very special donut costing $2.20 more than the others. Needless to say, I won't be back, I'll spend a buck more in gas to drive to a much better donut shop (customer service, price, quantity, and quality) in Fremont near 5 corners. read more

Wow... I don't even know where to start with this place other than by saying, it was phenomenal! After failing to find any old BK or Mickey D's to grab a quick grease bomb during a road trip, the Googler Maps delivered this little gem nestled away in an unassuming strip mall. My first round (trying to be "good") consisted of an odd looking, but oh so fluffy, glazed that would have brought the CEO of Krispy Kreme to tears. My second trip to visit the cashier got me a delightfully flaky ham and cheese croissant.... because really, can anyone be full after eating just one doughnut?! AMIRITE?! I left the cashier a thrid time with my head down in shame, but my hand wrapped around a fantastic, custard-filled maple log that was so brilliantly wonderful, that nothing that I say here can ever honor it's memory. I have been to Penny Doughnuts a few times now and I usually pick up a dozen or so donuts for my co-workers. I was feeling greedy on my most recent visit, so I got myself half a dozen doughnut holes (10 cents each). I think I could have easily done with only three doughnut holes, because those things were huge! I don't think I have seen such big doughnut holes before! I ended up sharing with co-workers anyway, so I guess I wasn't that greedy. I like the doughnuts at Penny's, because they are fresh. I was a little hesitant when clicking "breakfast" under Categories when doing the data entry for this donut shop, cuz I can eat donuts at any meal of the day, but for the public, I'll give you breakfast. Anyhoo, while running errands before work, I happened to check this place out. It's nothing big, very basic donut shop, fluorescent lighting, cold, hard plastic tables and chairs (a la Winchell's) and they don't even carry a wide range of donuts. To my disappointment, they didn't even have my favorite, the swirly glazed cruller. So since I was on my way to work, I decided to pick up a lil sumtin, sumtin for my immediate crew (which is about 5 people). I see a huge pile of glazed donut holes, so I ask for 2 dozen. The guy grabs 2 bags from the top of the counter and I'm being rung up. With a small coffee, my total was a whopping $3. Simple and cheap, just the way I like it. And for $3 friggnin dollars, I was able to put a smile on my crew's faces, in the time of day when smiles usually don't come around too often. Cash only but a very clean well lit donut shop that has the most interesting shaped cinnamon roll that I had ever seen. It wasn't circular but shaped like a star where it's spread out into six different directions. It's easier to eat and doesn't require two hands! They also have the other special donuts as well as standard and I got 3 specialty donuts plus a regular one for $5. Not too bad! They have coffee ready as well as a fridge full of drinks too. I was in the area the other day and decided to buy a couple donuts for my kids. When I walked in, I noticed that the store was pretty clean compared to this other one near my house. There wasn't much selection for donuts so I ended up buying 2 dozen donut holes. The lady that helped me was pretty nice but she thought I was Vietnamese and started talking Vietnamese to me. I'm Chinese! Anyways, I left with my donut holes and ate one at home. I did not like them at all. They were dry and dense. I don't think I'll go back to this place again. read more
