I really wanted to like this place but there were too many things working against it during our visit, even though I had a gift certificate. First of all, the AC was not working on the night we visited so things did not get off to a great start. It was warm in the dining area. The lighting was dark (maybe to not add to the heat). We enjoyed our Thai ice teas and seaweed salad appetizer but found our entrees (angel hair special and marine couple) just okay -- nothing special. The scallops in the marine couple were pretty tasteless. The owner came by and chatted with us a little bit, which is always nice. We've had tastier food at other local Asian restaurants so we'll probably pass on coming back soon. We wish them well.

1st time visit and everything we ordered was delicious. Crab Rangoon's= delish, sesame chicken=delish, chicken n steak hibachi=plenty of food and so good! Can remember the name of the last plate but it was just as good. Didn't take but a picture of the sushi. Sorry

We stopped by for dinner on a Wed night. It was around 6-6:30. There were maybe 6 people eating in. There seemed to be lots of take out. The inside dining space was very dimly lit. Hubby wanted sushi. They have BOGOF. I did not find the sushi to be very good. We got spicy shrimp rolls and I couldn't find either the shrimp or the spice. The crab Rangoon appetizer was a winner. We also got a chicken pad Thai to split. Also not so good. Too sweet and not spicy enough. Even though I ordered chicken, I found more tofu in the dish than chicken. In my opinion, the menu is too big. Make it smaller and prepare those dishes really well. We may try again - but I really doubt it.

Came here tonight for the first time for dinner. The restaurant was very quiet and had some nice decor on the walls. I ordered the sushi regular dinner and my friend got two of their BOGO rolls. The rolls were presented beautifully! They came out on wooden platters which I had never seen before. The waiters were friendly and the meal didn't take that long to come out. My only complaint is that the restaurant was very very cold, which made the experience slightly less enjoyable - especially since it was a very cold and rainy day.

The sashimi was actually pretty good, but they just got docked a star for having the motherf**king 700 Club on their TV set above the bar.

When you arrive the entrance can be a bit hard to find as it's tucked away down a cobblestone road. Look for the "m" logo outside of the door of the restaurant. You'll check in with the host when you arrive, and for this trip we opted to sit at the bar. When you walk into M sushi you'll feel like you've stepped into an underground, relaxed hangout for sushi. To start I ordered the Mizuwari (Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, elderfower liqueur, and tonic) which was perfectly balanced and a great way to start the meal. Following that the omakase service started with miso soup which was hot and fresh, followed by the different pieces of sushi. There was a variety from blue fin tuna, to sea bream, to Norwegian Sea trout. My favorite was a tie between the seared salmon belly and toro blue fin. We also ordered a bottle of Born Gold Junmai Daliginjo (Rich, smooth, fruit and grain forward) which paired excellently with the meal. This was a fun experience as it was my first time trying Omakase and looking forward to my next trip to M Sushi.

We started off with their sodas made in-house, one being green apple and the other being grapefruit. They were okay. The grapefruit one kind of tasted like apple cider vinegar. We tried them because a soda was $6 and there were no free refills. I find that a strange decision but this could be personal preference. We got a mixture of the small plates and rolls including the nigiri (delightful!), tuna crispy rice (my 2nd favorite), dumplings, bao bun (one cut in half), the rainbow roll, and the unagi roll. While I thought the nigiri and tuna crispy rice were amazing - both tasted fresh - overall, the food was just fine. I think our experience could just be based on pure preference. I found the sushi to be good but not the best I have ever had as some other Yelpers have experienced.

Really liked the ragoons qith a good amount of cream cheese in a pastry. The Lady Bug roll was delish. The crab salad was different, but good. I believe I expected chunks of crab and it was shredded. The fish overall ranges from OK to not the greatest but for dinner you're only paying $26 or so before taxes and tip. They have your standard nigiri, standard rolls, cooked rolls, specialty rolls, and hand rolls. You can also choose from a few appetizers and their hibachi offerings. They also do a la carte and takeout. The service here is fairly good as my waiter was checking in on me every 10-15 min or so. My only problem is it's very tiny inside and tables are nestled so close to each other so you're almost within arms reach of another table. Gets very busy so there will definitely be a wait depending upon the time you go so plan for that but you can walk around the Whole Foods around the corner or around Duke East Campus across the street while waiting.

We pre-booked the Omakase menu, a fixed price tasting menu that was honestly a deal regarding price point. We would have been satisfied with the first seven dishes even before we got to the tempura tasting. Standouts included scallop toast, chawanmushi, and scallop tartare. At this point we were more than content with what we already sampled but committed to finish. The tempura featured prawns, lotus root, lobster and more scallop. And if that's not enough, we were presented with a miso marinated sea bass in a rice bowl garnished with nori, wasabi and pickled daikon. We finished with a divine ginger ice cream, perfect in size , flavor and consistency. M Tempura is your choice if you're seeking an intimate spot featuring well crafted, delicate flavors with attention to detail. This experience was a memorable one.

The imp important thing to know is if you do not eat all your rolls, they will charge you a dollar per piece that you do not eat, including if you leave the rice when you order sushi. Then they can contribute a portion of that money to the No Child Goes Hungry charity, which I think is pretty cool. I am actually thinking about going there again for dinner tonight, which would be two nights in a row. The sushi is good for an all you can eat restaurant. I've definitely had better quality sushi elsewhere, but considering how much food you get, I really can't complain. One thing I'd recommend is ordering everything you think you'll want in your first round. There's a 90-minute time limit, and once your initial order comes out, the server doesn't check back very often.
