Inside the Pep Boys building
Chelsea L.

My car was stuttering and smoke was coming out from the front, right tire side so I pulled over and had my car towed. I called around and most towing companies were pretty booked and wanted to have me wait hours. Fortunately Pep Boys was able to provide the towing service within an hour 30 minutes. It was easy to schedule the appointment and they would send me texts regarding where the roadside assistance was at. After getting the car towed, you can choose to ride with them to a Pep Boys location, which I did. It was after hours, so I filled out my vehicle information and put my keys in an envelope to put in the drop off box on the side of the wall, next to their doors. Remember to have a pen! I wanted to make sure they got my keys so I called the next morning and they said they would look for it and give a callback. It seemed unprofessional that they would have me wait for doing something so easy as looking inside their box. I waited hours and still got no callback so of course I called. Then, they were willing to look and did confirm the keys were there. The next day, no technician was assigned yet so I still had to wait. The following day, they told me my car was ready to be picked up and they didn't see a problem with it and wasn't able to recreate the problem I described. That was extremely frustrating because I waited for my car to be fixed only to be told I didn't need to..and it obviously had an issue! So they said they would have another technician look at it the next day. So finally, they diagnosed the problem and presented the solution of buying some car parts and fixing it (a lot of car terminology involving brake hose and caliber). I think they could have done a better job explaining what these meant. I went inside the store and was not greeted at all. The employees were talking to two people but the least they could have said was "be right with you!" There is a lot of space inside the building. It was awkward and I didn't know where to stand. The cost was enormous-towing fee, car parts, labor, etc. They do have coupons available on the appointment tracker site when you first schedule the appointment so make sure you utilize those. And get a receipt! There's a 100 days warranty. I got the car fixed and the whole process took about 4 days.

$hithole with a horrible customer service. They're rude and couldn't care less about it. Sadly I had to go there for my rental car. But I prefer to change the car, than to deal with them again. Made two appointments on different days and still both times they told me that they didn't have anyone working at the moment, so it would take at least 2 hours just to check one tire. Both times had to step out due to their incompetence. They should close that location.

Missing lug nuts.

BEWARE: This is NOT a joke or an exaggeration. Pep Boys almost literally KILLED me today. My story: I took my truck in on 9/24/2020 to have my brakes repaired. About 48 hours later, as I was driving down the highway at 75mph my truck started making a very loud banging noise, and the rear and started moving erratically. I was able to pull over without colliding into any other vehicles. I discovered 5 out 6 lug nuts had fallen off (See photo). One of the studs has been sheared off, as well. Had the tire fallen off it likely would have continued down the highway at 70 miles an hour. Likely hitting another car and I would have probably lost control and flipping my vehicle. This could have killed me or anyone else next to me. I implore you, please never take your vehicle to Pep Boys. Your life could be in danger. I have contacted corporate, the store manager and blasted this all over social media and they refuse to respond. They also have not refunded me a dime!!! UPDATE: The store just called and blamed me for loosing or removing the nuts.

Buddha's Garage is the second one. Dave has the energy of a man who has looked directly into the screaming mechanical abyss of humanity and simply sighed, grabbed a wrench, and fixed it anyway. I swear half the vehicles in that shop arrive after being spiritually wounded somewhere else. Other mechanics will look at your engine like medieval doctors diagnosing ghosts. Dave looks at it once, tilts his head slightly like a jazz musician hearing a wrong note, and suddenly knows your alternator was installed backwards by somebody named Tyler in 2019. And here's the wild part: he's honest. Like deeply, suspiciously honest. The kind of honest that makes you uncomfortable because you forgot businesses could still operate without trying to sell you seventeen imaginary emergencies. Dave will straight up tell you cheaper alternatives, better options, things you can wait on, things you DON'T need. I almost wanted to ask him if he understood capitalism. The customer service feels less like a business and more like your truck wandered into a monastery where everyone took vows of kindness and diagnostic accuracy. Meanwhile other shops are out here playing roulette with socket sets: "Hmmm yes, perhaps your issue is... all of the parts." Then Buddha's Garage fixes it in an afternoon and somehow charges you like they still believe in human dignity. Also -- Dave knows an absolutely terrifying amount about vehicles. Not "guy who watches YouTube tutorials" knowledge. I mean ancient-library-hidden-under-the-desert knowledge. The kind where you start explaining the noise your car makes and he already knows the answer before you finish making the sound effect. At this point I'd trust Buddha's Garage with anything mechanical. My car. My lawn mower. A damaged submarine. If NASA called and said a shuttle was making a weird clicking noise, I'd probably hand them Dave's number. I'm going there no matter what. If I move across the state, I'll crawl back on flaming rims like a pilgrim returning to holy ground.

The folks at Grease Monkey are exactly the kind of people you hope answer the phone when your car decides to create a new form of anxiety. My partner had recently taken my Ford Edge to Grease Monkey for an oil change. Everything went smoothly and life carried on. Until early this morning. I'm cruising down 183 at about 70 mph when suddenly there is a loud, horrifying noise coming from underneath my vehicle. The kind of noise that immediately makes you start calculating how much money you're about to spend. I pulled over, crawled underneath the car, and found what looked like a twisted, bent, angry piece of metal hanging beneath my vehicle. After a brief consultation with Google and a few moments of "what fresh automotive nonsense is this?" I realized my splash shield and oil pan cover had finally succumbed to the curse that apparently plagues many Ford Edge owners. My first call was to Grease Monkey. Not because I wanted someone to blame. I simply wanted someone knowledgeable to tell me what I was looking at and what to do next. They immediately told me to bring it in. The moment I arrived, I was greeted by some of the friendliest people I've encountered in the automotive world. They took a look, removed the damaged materials, explained exactly what needed to be replaced, told me what parts to order, and then said something that absolutely earned this review: "When the parts come in, bring it back and we'll make sure it's put on correctly." No arguing. No finger-pointing. No trying to sell me things I didn't need. No talking down to me because I'm a woman. And that last part matters. A lot. Women know exactly what I'm talking about. There are still far too many places where asking a vehicle question results in someone speaking to you like you've wandered into a physics lecture you weren't invited to. That was not the experience here. Instead, I was treated with respect, kindness, and genuine helpfulness. What impressed me most wasn't that they fixed the immediate issue. It was that they took ownership of helping me find the right solution, even when the problem wasn't necessarily their fault in the first place. That's customer service. Real customer service. The kind that's becoming harder and harder to find. So if you're looking for a place that employs knowledgeable people, treats customers like human beings, and understands that earning trust is just as important as changing oil, Grease Monkey has my vote. Five stars.
