I would not recommend this place. I went in for a simple oil change, and then the manager came over to me while I was waiting with a little bit of black stuff in between his fingers, and he said that it had come out of my car. Then, he proceeded by telling me that I needed to have my spokes (or something like that) replaced. Then he gave me a quote for roughly $400 to fix it. Basically, this slime-ball was just trying to take advantage of me and charge me for something that I didn't need (I got a second opinion later that week). Then, this same skeezy manager signed me up for a rewards program without asking me, and now my email is getting flooded with unwanted spam. Ugh, never going here again. Came here to buy some replacement brake pads and had an awesome encounter. It was about 6:30 on a Friday night and there were two super friendly staff members. I walked in (with my dog) and the guy greeted me and asked what I was looking for. When I told him I was looking for brake pads and walked back with me to the computer and found the exact ones I needed and at various price tiers. He recommended mid tier and said those were the most popular and got me rung up within 10 minutes! For my Camry it was about $85 for the read and front brake pads - mid tier. I then looked at some car wax and another worker came up and recommended a different (and cheaper!!) car wax. 10/10 visit, each worker showed good knowledge of the products I was purchasing and both helped me while being friendly. I never felt like I was trying to be ripped off and the salesman even opened the brake boxes before ringing them up to verify all the pieces and lubricant were in there! read more

I took my Chevy Malibu here for the first time to get an oil change and I had a REALLY good experience. I dropped my car off and went on to work and was gonna come get it either during lunch or after work-but low & behold my car was ready an hour after I dropped it off! Talk about FAST service! I hadn't even gotten settled in at work before they called saying it was ready! That's a blessing these days. The service I received from Robert at the front upon picking up my vehicle was nothing short of immaculate! Very friendly, courteous, prompt and professional. I appreciated him being ex military (as my father was) and how we related during my experience. I will definitely come back for any future oil changes. The ONLY "complaint" I have is they don't (or didn't for me at least) vacuum out my car like Jiffy Lube normally does (and they may even charge extra for that IDK) which I was hoping would get done since I am leaving town this weekend but I will now do that on my own. I have mixed feelings about this place. I like the store part because they've always had the particular lamps, tire-care products, and filters I use when I needed them, and since I use their e-club, I just redeem their coupons = cash incentives they send me. I think the best thing about their service department is using their big-ticket repair estimates as a starting point to find better deals elsewhere. I don't doubt them on routine maintenance like tuneups and oil-changes, but their estimates for parts and repairs for various overheating and AC issues I brought to them were double of what I eventually paid at different places. Their best attribute is being open for Sunday repairs; their worst is being misleading about time: If it's going to take three hours or six hours or all day to do something, just say so, that's why you're the pro. This Pep Boys location is one of the least helpful or straightforward automotive centers I've ever been to since becoming a licensed driver. The main benefit I can attribute to them is that they're located close to my house and that a couple of the people I dealt with seemed, most of the time, as if they'd like to help me (most of the applause in this case goes to Mike Torres, who seemed to understand just how ridiculous this entire thing was and actually gave a damn). The rest of it, though, sucks on a Dyson level. During a routine oil change several months ago, another Pep Boys location in Dallas somehow screwed up my oil pan & filter, to the point that changing the oil 3,000 miles later also meant that I had to have my oil pan replaced. The only reason I went to this Pep Boys was because, since it was their chain's mistake, they agreed to fix it for free and they were right down the street. If I knew the 5 month headache it would cause, I would've gladly paid an exorbitant fee elsewhere. Seriously, looking back on it, I willingly would have given an arm and a leg to get this thing fixed so long as it meant that PB had nothing to do with it. Lessons learned. Anyway, they took down all of my contact information and told me that they'd have to order the part from Ford in Detroit, because they didn't have it in stock. Never mind that PEP BOYS AUTOMOTIVE SUPERCENTER didn't have an oil pan for a generic Ford sedan already; they told me they'd call me when they received the part, then I'd come in and they'd change the oil and replace the part and change the oil for free since it was their mistake. They told me that, on average, orders of this sort took about four or five days. I DOUBLE CHECKED MY CONTACT INFO before leaving and then went on my way. Almost a month went by before anyone at this store could tell me anything about the status of the order. I called about once a week for the month, reminding them of my issue and asking, and when I occasionally got someone on the phone that spoke English, they still had no idea how long it'd take to get the part in. At the end of the month, I got in touch with the manager who'd dealt with me in the first place; he then told me that the part was on back order from Ford and should be there in about two or three days. Here's where I call bullshit. Let's recall that this is probably the most generic car part you can order from one of the biggest car companies in the world at one of the biggest automotive centers in the country. This part is almost as mundane as a goddamn tire, and even the Ford center didn't have one? Okay, whatever. My main issue was that in all that time, no one bothered to tell me the thing was on back order. It was just a lot of ass-scratching and blank stares. Then my check engine light comes on and so does my oil light. When I call for the fifth time, less than pleased, they totally have the part in! I ask why no one ever contacted me first, and they had nary an answer. One person told me that they'd in fact contacted me more than once (as if my cell phone doesn't have caller ID at this point OR a voicemail) and another person told me they didn't have the right phone number. As you've probably assumed, both of these excuses were pig shit. I reminded them that I was told that the process would take a couple of hours, and asked when I could come in. The guy on the other end of the line said I should drop it off because he "had no clue" as to how long it'd take, and two hours was probably not accurate. This from the people that know that driving is an integral part of my job. *facepalm* Anyway, a couple days later, almost ANOTHER FULL OIL CHANGE after the initial problem, I take the car in and they fix it in four or so hours. It was, as they said, free. This is about the only thing they have going for them. When the manager handed me my keys at the end, he mentioned that the Check Engine light was on, that it seemed to be the oxygen sensors, and that he turned it off because there didn't seem to be any real problem. He added, quite cheerfully, that I should bring the car back if the light came back on or if I needed anything else with the car fixed. I didn't have the heart to stab him in the pancreas with my ignition key, as I'd so often dreamed, so I smiled and left. Less than 10 miles later, the Engine light turned on *again*. I happily drove my car to another non-PB center that's just a few miles out of the way rather than return it to the place where, apparently, otherwise healthy vehicles go to languish or be abused. I pulled in and was directed to the shop counter in back (just to be clear, the guy at the sales counter was helpful). I waited a full 20 minutes to be seen while one unhappy customer after another vented their frustrations (and one guy couldn't decide to buy two or four tires. Then I was told only their tech could read the codes (really? really?) and I was instructed to wait until one came out to me. 30 minutes later I left. Epilogue - I went to Auto Zone on Burnet Road and in three minutes I was seen and two after that I had my code. Turns out it was just a speed sensor code (my speedo throws them once a year or so). They confirmed over the phone and texted me one day before the reservation. But, they didn't touch my car over one and half hours. Which means the car had been parked where I parked. Sigh...very first exciting experience. Then, I asked my key back and they didn't know where it is....so terrible. I went to this Pep Boys to buy a new battery. The advertised prices for the batteries seemed reasonable compared to other auto stores. However, the price for labor and customer service are absolutely ridiculous. First, the cashier was texting on her phone while there were several customers aimlessly browsing their aisles. I didn't know where the battery I needed was and could have used some assistance - after about 5 minutes, I walked up to her and asked for some help. She said she'd send someone over - this particular employee was actually very nice and helpful (I wish I had caught his name). He brought me the battery I needed and asked if I needed it installed. I asked him how much it would cost, and he indicated it wouldn't be much. He was very wrong. They only had 1 other car in the garage, so I figured it wouldn't take long. After 30 minutes, I went to check on the progress and they said they'd come to get me when they were done. Fine - maybe there weren't many people on shift. I'm generally patient and I had no where to be, so I sat and waited. 45 minutes after THAT they came and got me. The bill for the battery and labor was almost $200 (the battery was about $60). How is that even possible?! Apparently, my particular model of Volkswagen has a very tricky battery and it takes a lot of time to replace. At least, that's what they told me. I felt more like he was saying, "Hey, you're a girl who probably knows nothing about cars, so we're going to charge you as much as possible." AND, to top that off, I noticed 2 of their mechanics helping a guy (letting him use their tools, etc.) to install a battery (which he had JUST purchased inside) in the parking lot. I asked the gentleman who was checking me out if he had to pay for labor and he sheepishly shook his head 'no'. So, the guy buys a battery and gets it installed for free in about 10 minutes, but I have to pay $140 extra and wait over an hour. I even called Pep Boys customer service to complain, but they said there would be no way to verify whether their tools had been used to help another customer for free OR to verify how long it took to change my battery. There was nothing they could do apparently. By the way, my car's battery is a little tricky to remove, but it still only took me about 15 minutes to remove and re-install my battery. read more

I jus had the worst experience with this company! Please beware! I'm new to Texas, I'm 12 hours away from home. I had a flat tire and I chose to keep riding it slowly to the air pump but my tire bust. I called Pep Boys and they towed my car to their shop ($77) and I stayed at a friend house and scheduled to buy 1 tire from Pep Boys ($134) An hour later they call me saying they will not give me service or let me buy 1 tire bc I needed 4 tires and my 2021 dodge charger was not safe to drive! I pleaded with them that I can't afford 4 tires at the moment and I was only interested in buying one tire! They was literally trying to force me to buy 4 tires! If I would've known this I would've never allowed them to tow my car. And either way if I agree to buying the tires or not I would've been stuck with the tow bill. They left me strAnded with no car for a day! Finally the next day they agreed to let me buy 2 tires, all together I paid them $432! They are so money hungry and make u buy their products. And when I picked up my car it smelled like MARIJUANA!!!! I dont smoke and never been a smoker! I told the manager to come outside and smell my car and he claimed he didn't smell it! But when he thought I left the shop I heard him getting on to his workers about it! Wow! I'll never go back, this place is a scam. read more

Just bought a "new" Nissan a week ago so I asked my friend, the car enthusiast, about car care products. He gave me a lovely shopping list of supplies he uses on his Nissan. Pep Boys carried almost all of it in the store. That was a plus. Now I know where to get my stuff. The store has seen better days and the prices were a little high. I found a few of the same things at my grocery store for less. The cashier was the only guy I saw in the store and he was relatively nice. I was out of luck though if I needed any other help. The two locations of Pep Boys in Austin are not the most convenient for me so I'll probably check out Advanced Auto or Autozone next time before I head way over to 183. read more

A week in advance, I scheduled an afternoon appointment for 4 new tires. Arrived at my appointment time, checked in, was immediately told they didn't have my tires there but that a store 15 minutes up the road did. Sorry, nothing they can do here. Good luck, bye! No call at the beginning of the day saying they for whatever reason didn't get my tires to the store. No attempt to have the tires transferred from the other store. No attempt to see what other tires they did have onsite that I may be ok with. Drove to the other store, and was stuck dropping my car for the rest of the day because I didn't have a scheduled appointment... something I could have easily done much earlier in the day if I would have been informed. The other store was great and actually worked past their closing time to complete my car on the same day! Fix your process and fix your customer service. I will be driving the extra distance to avoid this store from now. read more

I have had a couple of oil changes here. They do take a very long time but I've always arranged in advance to leave my car so I don't have to wait around. I also bought my car battery here. My mechanic said it needed to be replaced once when the alternator went bad then pep boys said it didn't need to be replaced (the battery was under warranty). I'm not impressed with this place. I went in there around 6:30 p.m. today to purchase anri-freeze. I've never been here before I walk by the only person on the floor...no "can I help?". I find what I need and after sticker shock over the price I head to the register..pass worker.. again ...nothing. I get to register and wait for someone. Same worker comes up to ring up purchase. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I had used this store before and didn't have a problem but after this last visit this store will never see me or my car again. I took it in for a suspension check and brake check because I was hearing popping noises while turning and my brakes felt weird. That was the only issue with my car. They replaced my axle, replaced my rear shoes, and turned my front rotors....very basic automotive tasks when it comes to mechanics. When I got my car back, my parking brake was non existent and there was a terrible scraping noise that could be heard when I was driving. After I took it in again, leaving it with them overnight because I didn't want to rush them, I was dismayed that when I got my car back again the parking brake still couldn't hold my car in my drive way and there was still that horrible scraping noise. I called again to speak with the manager and he assured me that if I brought it in again for a third time that he would make sure it would get fixed right. SHOULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN FIXED RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!?!? Oh and he blamed the issues on a change in management. If he is the new manager then that store is in even more trouble!!! The third time I took it in I spoke with the mechanic who had been working on my car (the manager was on a conference call) and slightly argued with him as to how my parking brake was BEFORE I brought my car in and that I wanted it back to the way it was supposed to be. He assured me that my car would be ready in a few hours. I dropped it off by 2:30pm and had to call THEM around 11:30 am THE NEXT DAY to check on my car...by the way they are open until 9pm and no one bothered to call me. When I called, the manager got on the phone with me and blew some smoke up my butt saying that the noise was coming from my engine compartment and made it seem like I was making up a story that my car wasn't making that noise before I had brought it in. I was furious and went and picked up my car prepared to take it to a different shop. I find it an EXTREME coincidence that my car didn't make a noise the night before I took it to the shop and then started making the noise when I'm drove my car home from the shop. The funny thing, now that they finally got my parking brake adjusted properly...THE NOISE IS GONE!!!! Oh and the first time I brought my car in they tried to tell me that my radiator was completely empty of coolant and wanted me to pay $90 to do a coolant exchange....they didn't even offer to diagnose the problem, which is only $35. I don't trust this place. They have horrible customer service and are only out to make a quick buck. read more

So I scheduled an appointment for free AC check at 3pm. Arrived 10 minutes early expecting a wait. It's been 25 minutes and I haven't seen a mechanic anywhere in the store or in the back. It's like this store is completely empty. I see 4 people walking around the building, but I think they are customers. Was having low expectations having to deal with PepBoys before, but wasn't expecting no service at all. If you were desperate you could fix your own car in the bay and I'm sure no one would bat an eye at you. Not recommending this place to anyone, and still haven't seen one person who works at this location yet. Hopefully someone knows that this place is supposed to be open. read more

Okay, I'm going to give these guys 5 stars. I've been going here since 2004 and my experience with them has been great. On a couple of occasions, I went in there expecting to have an expensive bill and they told me that it was only a minor issue. They also are quite detailed in explaining everything to me and you can tell they are honest and up front about things. Also, a lot of their mechanics have been there for a long time. Two Hispanic guys have been there at least 5 years and they are great. Now, yes, there have been times when the work was longer than expected. However, I'm not going to complain about that. They are busy and they have a lot of customers at all times. Also, there have been times when they've dug into my car and found other problems. I'm not going to complain about that either. That happens in the auto aftermarket business. Despite all of this, they are up front, explain everything and they offer great prices. I have really good relationships with the guys and while I never like to have to pay money to have my car fixed, when the need does arise, I go to Pep Boys. read more

Came in for a simple synthetic oil change. It costs $90 but their coupon brought it down to $70 (still a lot for an oil change). Anyway, I drove my car straight home that night and wake up in the morning to my oil filter access cover dangling from below my car. Their technician didn't put it on properly so the bolt/lock was missing, therefore, it won't fasten. That lock is key for holding the cover in place. Anyway, I go back and ask if they can reimburse me for the cover, which was only $25 (not a big deal). My issue was that it took nearly 2-3 weeks of driving/calling Pep Boys back and forth for them to finally rectify the situation. I had to go buy the part from the Jeep dealership and bring it back, which isn't a big deal. It was the lack of communication and the false promises along the way that really put a sour taste in my mouth. Safe to say, I won't be returning. read more

If I could give these a$$holes negative 5 stars I would. These are the rudest human beings on the planet. We go inside to check about our battery/alternator. The sign CLEARLY says "We have Free Battery & Alternator Checks". The dude at the counter goes "no we don't do that unless the battery is out of the car you need to go to service". To which Service tells us "Oh yeah, main, we charge for alternator checks". We got the battery tested and found that was the source of the problem and got the eff out of there. I took my car in because the "check engine light" was on. They said it would be a few hours and $90.00 for them to diagnose what was wrong. Then they asked if I also wanted an oil change. I declined the oil change and the 3 hour wait and left. My worry about my car over-rode my not wanting to wait around for 3 hours--so back I go. About 1/2 hour elapsed between my first and second visit. This time, they get me right in and do the check. The service manager then tells me that I need to tow my car to the dealer asap as there is possibly catastrophic damage to my on board computer and engine--that they can't fix. On the good side, they didn't charge me the $90.00. So I take my car to the dealer and they fix it--but not until the next day. I was sweating bullets that my car was going to be $1000's to fix. There was no catastrophic damage just a computer that needed re-calibrated. It was under warranty--so there was no charge. Thanks for not charging me Pep Boys! And no thanks for scaring the life out of me thinking I was going to have to buy a new car if I risked driving it off your lot.... read more

So what do you do when you are stuck in the storm of the century and the batteries in both your cars die at the same time? I got it jumped, the car place told me my battery might be dead, something about a voltmeter needed to check it yada yada blah blah. I went to pep boys to find out if the voltmeter would tell me if my car battery was rechargeable ...whew! And to get a whole earful of car lingo.. At least it wasnt busy. They checked the battery for free but then guilt tripped me ( more of the lingo) into getting the whole package checked using fear tactics and big car words. ( Boy I sound smart right about now!) 20 bucks later my car is still running. The men were civil enough, not particularly friendly. I called ahead to schedule an oil change and told the guy I talked to I'd be in right before 6 after I dropped my boyfriend in the ER. He just made a joke to hurry and push him out of the car at the ER. Then when I arrived at 5:45, the same guy (recognized his voice) acted like he didn't know I was coming and made a comment about the oil change person's schedule ending at 6, treating me like a huge inconvenience. He walked to talk to the guy to see if they felt like being nice enough to change my oil as I had called in advance to arrange, then came back to the counter. I asked to confirm the oil change would come with tire rotation and everything it always does and he told me the guy will only change the oil, nothing else. So I'd be paying for a service they offer but only getting part of the service. I was leaving on a long road trip the next day and needed the service they supposedly offer. This was honestly my last time ever going to s Pep Boys. This isn't the first time I've gotten terrible service from them. As per their website, the oil change Includes: Up to five quarts of Quaker State Conventional Motor Oil Oil filter replacement* Free Tire Rotation Tread Depth and Tire Pressure Check Does Not apply to all vehicles. Our technicians are required to install the motor oil your manufacturer recommends. Check your owner's manual to be sure. I always have an excellent experience here (they've taken care of all my oil changes, battery needs, and other "bigger" repairs for about two years). The entire staff (including but not limited to: Felipe, Rich, and Jeremy) is very professional, kind, and efficient. I like the comfort of going to a national chain because I know the pricing will be consistent, but the guys explain my repairs to me as if I were their neighbor. I've been to Pep Boys on numerous occasions in the past and for the most part, the service has been exceptional, except for yesterday. I was on a time crunch that day, so I called when I was 10 minutes away to see what the wait would be for a standard inspection. He quoted me 30 minutes, which would've been perfect, so I decided to take my car in. I mean, not much can change in 10 minutes, right? When I get there, I give him my key and tell him I'm going to be next door at Goodwill until they are finished. An hour later, I still hadn't received a call, so I decided to walk back over only to see my car still sitting where I parked it. I see two workers outside talking, not servicing any cars but didn't think anything of it at the time. I ask the guy inside what is going on and he said he forgot the mechanic had another car to inspect before mine so they would get to it in about 20 min. I'm already frustrated that they didn't call to give me this information, but I decide to wait. Thirty minutes later, I go check and the guy working on it was one of the two who were outside talking! He came in when he saw me and said my car wouldn't pass inspection because of my back two tires and didn't continue the inspection. Why didn't they let me know this when they found out? Instead, they waited for me to come in to tell me, wasting more of my time. I told them to bring my car around as is, now almost two hours later. By this time, almost every tire shop has closed, so I had to drive all the way out to Cedar Park and found 1 Stop Tire & Automotive who serviced me and replaced my tires even after their close time. I don't plan to go to Pep Boys again after seeing the level of unprofessionalism by the workers as well as the front office manager who was trying to say those workers were doing work the entire time. I have been here twice - once to replace a battery and another to fix my brake light. Service is always prompt. They have WiFi while you wait which is a plus and it is so fast and easy to connect to. You can make an apt online, which will save you time. They also have a rewards program and text you when your car is ready. I have no complaints. I wont take my car anywhere else. read more

Since my last review their customer service has gone down the toilet, Pepboys refuses to honor their warranties they're not even worth the paper they're printed on. I typically go to O'Reily's for my auto parts, but for some reason, probably because my dad used to go there back in the day, I still have Pep Boys on my auto parts supplier list of places to call. I never seem to get decent service there, but they usually have everything I need. So..... I had a brake job on a Lexus to do and I checked their website for parts. They listed the parts at decent prices. Cool. I head down (up) there, and just like every other time I've been there, there is no one at the parts counter. The couple employees I do see are headed somewhere else and don't even acknowledge me being there. I'm thinking, "great. here we go again." Then Derrick shows up and WHOA!!! This guy is fantastic! He's helpful, patient, and seems to know his stuff. He was extremely courteous and pleasant, and even managed to save me some money and time! OK. So, I'm more likely to try out Pep Boys on Research again. I wish there were more Derrick's at retail stores! Great job!!! read more

I brought my car in yesterday for "I didn't know what" at the time except that my battery had gone on fire the day prior and none of my electric worked in the car. I dropped it off in the morning and they told me they would call to let me know when the electrician got it. They called me 3 separate times to update me on my car and confirm services that I wanted to have done. I ended up getting new belts (now my car doesn't squeal!) an oil change, and wipers as well as replacing the battery and $3 dollar electrical problem. They were straight forward, had great customer service and not once did I feel like they were trying to push a service on me that I didn't actually need, which I am always afraid of when going to a mechanic. Highly recommend going here! I will be taking my services there regularly! Oh yeah, and the total was much less than I had anticipated and they were kind enough to give me a coupon for %10 percent off when I checked out. They turned what I thought was going to be a terrible situation and day into a pleasant one. read more
