I wish I could give them negative 5 stars. I got a call from David Lily on a Sunday afternoon. He left a message saying he had been trying to reach me about my review and was sorry about my experience and wanted to chat. First of all there had been no calls to me prior to this. I returned his call about an hour later and he told me he was busy at the grocery store and that I should call him on Monday when he was in his office. He said he would be there ALL day. You know, I was also at the grocery store. But I decided to call on Monday as he requested. After all it is my duty I guess to cater to him and make his life easier. I got his voicemail 3 times. Finally late in the day I left a voicemail that I was over it! I work in a customer service industry and welcome upset customers. It is valuable feedback and making up for a mistake I've made often gains me a customer for life. This attitude is by far the reason that customers aren't treated well at this organization. It starts at the top. Avoid Pep Boys if you can. I know I will. And this canned response at the bottom of this review?? Yep I followed up with that too. That's how I got to David Lilly. Nobody at Pep Boys cares about customer service. They respond to Yelp posts with instructions to send an email to a specified address and they will follow-up to address my concern. Of course, I receive no response after contacting the address. I highly recommend to avoid this place. Not only is the service awful, they flat out lie to customers about promised follow-up. My mechanic Roland Deleon was so awesome!!! Hardest working little man I have ever seen. He works from sun up to sun down 6 days a week and even drives into Austin all the way from San Antonio. He was very knowledgeable too. His customer service was so good. I am coming back just because I trust his good work ethics but also because he is dedicated to taking care of his customers. Richard Grune, was the best service manager I can remember. He threw every discount at me to keep me coming back. Very hard worker. He was just helping out at that location. It wasn't even his store. Scheduled an appointment for an oil change and a state inspection for 10:30am the previous day. I was told that it would only take 20 minutes or so to get this done. I got there at 10:30am on the day of service and I was told they wouldn't get to my car until 11:15am. This was fine as I understood there might be a small delay. At 11:45am they finally took my car from the lot into the garage. At 12:45pm I called to see if it was ready and I was told it would be another 30 minutes. At 2:30pm I called again and was told that it would be another half hour. I was told the person working on my car got hung up on something else. Finally at 3:38pm I called again and they told me the oil change was done but not the inspection. They couldn't find my insurance card in the glove box and they just didn't do the inspection. So, after 5 hours I got my oil changed. I will never use this shop, or any Pep Boys location, ever again. Absolutely terrible service and horrific time management from the staff. I don't need the Pep Boys representative on Yelp telling me how much they "value my feedback" either. They've lost my future business and I'm going to make sure everyone I know is warned about what an awful business this is. read more

This is literally the worst mechanic/lube place I have EVER been to. My boyfriend had initially taken my car in for a simple oil change, due to the fact that we were taking an 8 hour road trip a few days later to visit family. We left my car there for a few hours, and once they called us to let us know it was ready we headed straight over to pick it up. I was following my bf in his car, and as he was pulling out of the parking lot, I realized he was going exceptionally slow and started motioning me to turn around and go back. We pulled back in the parking lot, and he said the car wasn't wanting to kick into gear. He went in to speak with the manager, who then said they would have a mechanic take a quick look before they closed for the day. The mechanic claimed he couldn't find anything wrong, and sent us on our way and the business closed. ON our way home, the car was having trouble kicking into third gear so we had to drive extra slow. Mind you, this was NOT happening right before we took the car in. The next day my bf calls to speak to the manager AGAIN and told him what happened. The manager tells us to bring the car in AGAIN, and AGAIN they claimed nothing else was done to the car, and that it may be transmission damage that could cost upwards of $800 to repair. We were leaving for our trip the next day, and did not have time to take the car in again, so we ended up having to get a rental for the trip. Upon returning, my boyfriend went in to personally let them know that this was unacceptable, and let them know the extra cost of our trip. It obviously had to be something they had done, but the manager was backing his employees and stating no one would have tampered with the car. We ended up taking it in to another mechanic, who ran a $99 diagnostic and found that the speed censor had been pulled out, and thats why it wasn't kicking into gear. And guess where the speed censor on my car was located? Right next to the oil filter. They messed up and cost us a lot of money, and still would not admit to it or even give us a refund. And the manager had the audacity to say they could help fix our transmission for $800, when it wasn't the transmission at all. It was the incompetent people that work there. NEVER take your car there. I can see by the other reviews that I am not the only one that has had issues with this horrible establishment. read more

I went here to have my truck shocks swap out from old ones. Usually, I do these jobs at home on car, but the truck springs are too heavy duty for the tools I have. I went to Pep Boys on a recommendation of a friend saying they charge $20 bucks a piece mount. I drop off my old shock/spring combo and was told it take two hours. Before I left, I explained to the guy at the counter that the installation require the sleeve that come with it, asked him to make a note, he scribble some note on the work order. I felt confidence. I left and told him I come pick it up tomorrow. Next day, I picked it up at noon. I wasn't too happy as I saw the spring was all scratched up, one of the spring the other in original condition, wasn't happy but something I can swallow. Once got home, I took it out, about to mount it on my truck. I noticed one spring is shorter than the other! I inspect the springs and found that 1) the spring seat on one of it is installed backward (upside down) 2) the mechanic forced the retaining nut in stripping most of the thread (these are 35lb torque spec on vehicle) It was wayyyy more than that I tried testing loosen it 80lb wasn't enough to back it out, I stopped I took pictures and videos. Then called the shop tell them they fucked up, literally. The front desk guy that handled my order told me to bring it back will make it right. Brought it back, he ask the mechanic that worked on it to come out look at it, manager guy David? was there too. All looking at it not realizing whats wrong with it. I asked them to keep looking. No one seem to gets it, then I point it out the spring is short on one and long on the other due to the spring seat flipped over, the thread on the bolt is messed up, there is no sleeve on any shock that supposed to be installed. The sleeves was something i specifically told them that needed to be installed, they come with the new shocks. Once I showed it to them, the tech hat worked on it said he installed all parts, i told him he didn't and show him where the sleeves suppose to go. He then turn around told the manager he has to go to lunch. He f**ked up my shocks and the first thing he worries is his lunch? Customer service dude told me it be 2 hours before it be fixed. I wasn't happy but what can I do? make a scene and they f**k it up more? I shut up and left it in their hand again. I picked it up all done as it should be, minus he damages caused from earlier bad job. I want everybody aware of the service here at this Peps Boys. Suspension system is high on vehicle safety list. Wrongly installed shock, like mine, would have caused extensive damage to tires, and other components when the spring slip due to missing sleeve. Pep Boy need to get their act together on quality of work. read more

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!! First, my car was majorly scuffed when they did my half-assed oil change and tire rotation. When they "checked the footage" there was no evidence that they had damaged the car, BULLSHIT. Second, my car started shaking after my rotation so I took my car elsewhere to get a balance when the mechanic found 3 of my bolts stripped, he said it looks liked they were in a rush. Thirdly, while he was balancing my car he found an oil leak and said he bolt wasn't anywhere near tightened. Not to mention, I waited over 1 hour and a half for an oil change and tire rotation when I had a scheduled appointment. I will never ever return here. read more

Another I got a battery from here and it went bad after a year when I went in to have my battery changed out , they ignored me because it was under warranty . NOTE: This was my second Pep Boys appointment in one day - after making and showing up for an appointment at the other Pep Boys on Research, I was advised that their AC guy was on vacation. NOTE: Yes, I did indicate on my appointment that I needed AC service. So I went back home and made an appointment at this Pep Boys to have my AC checked - I wanted the free check that is advertised on the website. Fortunately, I called before my appointment and was told they were running behind - okay - no big deal - I said I would come 30 minutes later. After waiting to be waited on for 15 minutes, I was told it would be $39.99 for the AC check. When I advised I wanted the free check that was advertised on line, the assistant service manager told me that the free check would not do anything for me except tell me if my AC worked or not - and obviously we know it does not work as cold air is not coming out of the vents. By this time, I was pretty fed up with Pep Boys so instead of getting angry, asking for the manager, yaddi yaddi yaddi, I held my tongue and went home. I then called the store manager and advised him of the situation. He response was that sometimes the service people can be intimidating and I should have asked for a manager who can speak more softly. Are you kidding me?!?!?! When we make an appointment for an advertised service are we suppose to expect to have to fight for that service? Or is it just women that they try to screw with? I sure wish I had read the other reviews on this store before I went out of my way. read more

Went to this store and was waiting for 8 minutes then another customer walks in and is waiting behind me he's waiting a total of 2 minutes. The service guy(David) walks from the back and walks right up to the other customer that's only been waiting for 2 min and starts assisting him first like I wasn't standing there for 10 minutes waiting! So they start talking about the work being done on the guys car and the customer pulls out a coupon for 5% off David tells him that he would have to start a new order to use that coupon so David says "well let's just say your in the military and that'll give you 10% off!" By this point I'm livid I've been in this store for 20 minutes and wasn't greeted by anyone! I will NEVER go to this store again... I called before I went in to see how long an oil change would take. I was told there wasn't anyone in front of me so it would take about 20 minutes. I said I was on my way. I got there and I was told the same thing. I went ahead and asked if they could inspect my brakes and give me a price on some tires. I was hoping this garage would work out as it is real close to my work. After about 45 minutes I was starting to wonder what was going on. My truck was still up on the lift and the guy was working on it. At the hour mark I asked the guy at the front why it was taking so long. He apologized for it taking so long and that it was almost ready. 15 minutes later the guy finished up. I didn't even ask about my brake inspection. I won't be going back. read more

My battery went out at dinner. Called AAA. They gave me a jump and said I needed a new battery. It was after 8pm, so I drove immediately to this Pep Boys location, which I knew was open until 9:00. They were busy, but J.R. saw to it that I got a new battery, even though they had to stay late. Needless to say, I rate the service I received highly. I have a had both good and bad experiences with Peo Boys across the country and this one is by far the best. The manager or the man who is always at the service desk is second to none in customer service. He has helped me out on multiple occasions with tires, once with an ignition and is always a good conversation. I work in sales and never get the vibe he is trying to oversell me or take advantage of me in any particular situation. Moved to North Austin a few months ago and this is the only place I'll go now. Cheaper prices but takes slightly longer to get your car fixed. (makes sense considering they tend to have a line) Over the years I've gotten many oil changes, flat tires, new tires, oil pump, wheel baring, hub assembly, control arm, and water pump...yes I know I should just give up and buy a new car. But the customer service has been consistantly good throughout. David tends to be the man at the service center desk. He will gladly walk out to your car with you, and help start to diagnose issues. However, in two years, I have yet to see the man smile. Rod is always smiling and talking to people. I have a really tight budget and he has been the most helpful with prioritizing repairs. Matinence fixes that can wait vs. what needs to be repaired now so it won't cause hundreds of dollars of damage in a few weeks. Thomas is always polite but I haven't gotten to work with him much. Derrek works in the actual store and his customers are smiling by the time they leave. He is always very polite and knowledgable about his products and store layout I keep going back, and have been treated well every time. Hope you have a similar experience. read more

I was headed back to FT Campbell KY from San Antonio. My check engine light came on flashing like crazy. I searched google and found this pep boys near by. Out of any garage I have been to in the past this one is by far the best I have ever had the pleasure visiting. The man I dealt with (James I think) was extremely helpful they read the code on my ecu told me exactly what the problem was (ended up being false code). They reset it didn't charge me any thing and I was on my way in about 5-10min thank you pep boys guys!!! read more

I stopped by today to replace windshield wipers at around 7:50pm (store closes at 8). Store was open but no employee visible. I waited at parts desk for around 5 minutes and heard someone working in shelves. He appeared eventually but ignored me and walked to the service desk and began speaking with another employee at service. I waited another minute or so and finally walked to service to ask if the store was already closed. He replied that he'd barely walked by me one minute ago. My impression was that he did not want to help me. So I left without purchasing anything. The whole experience felt pretty crummy. I doubt I'll ever shop here again. read more

I went into this location to purchase shocks and have them installed. I was told that the shocks I needed would be shipped the next morning and that the store would call me I called the store and was told only one set arrived and that I would recieve a call around noon and be advised of my order. Well, 2 pm arrives, no call. And upon calling the store , I was told that only the front shocks had arrived and maybe the rear shocks would be delivered the next day. I took off work one day to get this done on their word and I'll not take off two. This poor service and customer relations. I'll never go back to Pep Boys again read more

UPDATE: it was almost 6pm and they still hadn't touched the car but it was fine for the employee to be sitting in the shop smoking a cigarette instead of working on the cars. We ended up taking the tires and having them installed elsewhere. Will not be returning to this unprofessional, slow establishment again. This place is on my nerves!! All they had to do was replace 2 tires. I paid for the tires online ...had to spend 20 mins waiting for them to figure out how to do that. Then install for 2 tires is $71??? No.. Top it off my car was supposed to be done between 4 and 5 pm...it's 5:10 and they haven't even touched the damn car...then gave had it since 1!!! read more

My car had been pulling to the left and I thought I needed an alignment. IDrive a 1998 Ford F-150. I pull into the Pep Boys on Research Boulevard and 183 and I asked the service provider for an alignment. His name is Brian and was very nice from the very beginning. He greeted me with a smile and asked how he could help me. I told him about my alignment issue and went through a suspension check. ASAP for 25 minutes and he came and found me in the lounge and asked if he could talk to me. He told me that I had on top of a bad alignment a very serious issue with my front wheel bearings. He took me to the shop and gave me some shot glasses so that I didn't go in there unprotected. He showed me that I had severe damage to my wheel bearing and that posed a significant threat to my safety. He was very detailed but I answered all of my questions. I was very worried because I drive my family in this car and it's my only means to get around. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and work really really hard in order to ease my tension and really build trust. I've been to other shops where people have tried to rip me off but I had a real sense of trust as Brian appeared to be very genuine and I truly believed that he was telling me the truth and really wanted to help me and was worried about my safety and my family's safety. You can't find that type of service anywhere and believe me I've Been Everywhere. This was only the second time I've been to this Pep Boys and because of Brian's service, Pep Boys has just earned a lifelong loyal customer. As long as Brian is here at the shop comma I know my trusty old beat-up pickup truck is in good hands with Brian and his team. Thank you a new loyal customer read more
