Do not come to this location. I had a 1:30 PM appointment for a simple oil change and tire rotation, and I did not leave until 6 PM. For a service that should have taken a fraction of that time, waiting 4.5 hours past my scheduled appointment was unacceptable. During that time, three different employees checked on my vehicle and each told me it was "almost done" and "would not be much longer," yet the delays continued with no clear explanation. Very frustrating. Also, there was no service sticker placed on my windshield showing the mileage or date for my next oil change, which is a basic detail that would have been nice to include. I scheduled an online appointment for an oil change and to have my rear driver side brake looked at. I arrived at the scheduled time and was prepared to wait there while the work was done. I was told it would be a few hours as they were busy. Not sure why they have you schedule an appointment when they clearly can't keep up, but oh well. While sitting in the waiting area, I could clearly hear several employees in the back yelling and swearing at each other . Nice. After over 4 HOURS, I was presented with a list of things they recommended for my vehicle. I stated that I just wanted the oil change and new brake pads on the one squeaky wheel and was quoted an outrageous price. I declined everything but the oil change. I called them at 9:36am to let them know that I would be arriving at exactly 10am. I arrived at 9:59am, gave my keys to the technician and was told that they were finishing up on the car in front of me first since they only had one mechanic working today. So I went into the waiting room with my laptop to work while I waited. It is now 11:55am. They have not even moved my car out of the parking lot in the front of the store. When I confronted the man about this and expressed that to my knowledge a synthetic oil change is not a 3 hour procedure, I was told that it would still be another 45 - 90 minutes. I am FURIOUS- I am literally writing this from their waiting room since they do not seem to care when I express the issue in person. I believe that they are attempting to take advantage of me since I am a young woman by myself since I have seen 3 other customers arrive, wait and leave sine I got here this morning. I shouldve went home because after waiting 2 hours I go to look out the window and find my car still parked where I parked it untouched by the technicians. Apparently they have a certified emissions repair tech recommended certified by the DMV at this location and he pushed it off for someone else to do when he was given the paperwork from the customer from the DMV! They like professionalism they try to rip people off, and we've already notified corporate and sent emails of what occurred and the tech would not sign off for the waiver because he didn't do the work which he was legitimately the only one who was supposed to do the work but pushed it off to a Brandon Unprofessional where he's being reported to the DMV as well by not following the state guidelines and has been reported to the Better Business Bureau and apparently they have a ton of complaints at this location. Went to PEP BOYS yesterday (Sunday) as I had a leak in my left rear tire and wanted it fixed as I travel for work. They kept insisting that was the only option due to the AWD & 4WD on my Explorer and ruining the drive train. The tech said it was company policy. I punted. This morning (Monday) I went to Diamond State Tire in Bear, DE and they were most helpful. They safely repaired the tire with a patch for $30. My lesson is whenever possible go local as honesty is much more important than convenience. Don't go to Pep Boys if you can help it and have money to throw away. I went in for an issue with my battery. My roommate just put a new one in my 2018 jeep renegade. Before we got serviced we went to autozone and they tested it saying the battery was fine but their computer is showing the starter is bad. Pep boys is right next door so I went to see how much. They did their 'test' but only showed the terminals were loose and the battery and starter was fine but I had an issue with my suspension. Initially they quoted $520 but I get a call a few hours later saying the actual cost is $730 because they forgot to include labor. That's the first red flag. I reluctantly agree because I need my car for work. Next day it's ready but lo and behold the same issue with the battery is persisting. I come back with my roommate and they tell me there actually is a problem with the starter and wanted to charge me $1300!!!! I ended up buying a starter at auto zone and found a mechanic who will do it for $350. Please avoid pep boys at all cost. read more

Man its Christmas time and they knew I was in a bind financially. I was trying to figure out what my options were. They were able to salvage a part and fix me up. Saved $250. Car is running great again. They were also very nice and easy to deal with. This is my choice of business for all my car repairs! Issue: squeaking and burning sound at low speeds but not when im breaking. Also, when i leave the car, theres a burning sound. Fix: they salvaged my front caliper. 2/2/2016 Taking my automobile to this location to be fixed was a huge costly mistake. I do not recommend this location to be a preferred service location to have your car fixed, you will end up paying more. I needed my starter replaced, when I picked it up, I looked under the hood to check the work they did and to my horror wires and air filter were not reconnected. Also before taking it there, I had no check engine lights or other lights on, but now I have check engine and EML lights on. SUV will start but now it won't go above 30mph. Called Union BMW today to have what they damaged fixed. Words cannot express how disappointed I'm. What more can I say .... Following day: 2/4/2016 I wanted to write a follow up to my previous review. I just picked up my suv from Union Park BMW and as I suspected... They verified my concern and repaired the car. They found that after Pepboys replaced my starter they left the throttlebody unplugged, engine wire harness was not connected and bolted to intake. I should be reimbursed for the monies that I paid for labor at Pepboys. Horrible! Never again!!!! read more

The service staff is overwhelmingly and needlessly rude. But, come on, you don't go to a mechanic for their cheery dispositions. This place will try to up sell you an additional 1,000 or more in unwarranted repairs. I went to them once to buy tires, and got a call claiming that both struts and shocks were cracked, leaking and in need of replacement. In the first place, struts don't contain fluids that would possibly be leaky, but more importantly, the odds of both struts and shocks catastrophically failing in a new car are practically zero. Took it to my dealer who confirmed that fluid pressure was low in one shock due to a leaky seal, which was fixed for free. We went back once for our other car, because of a caliper issue. We were told that both calipers, fluid hoses, break pads, drums and rotors needed to be replaced at a total of almost $1,500. After pressing the issue, the tech admitted that these were "recommended" repairs, and not required. In short, if you aren't smart enough to question their bullshit, they will charge you for every unnecessary repair imaginable. The only plus is that they will be honest and admit repairs aren't necessary if you question them about it. I don't know about you, but I'd rather go to a guy who doesn't try to inflate my bill, because he thinks I won't notice. read more

I've made plenty of purchases at the Bear store over the years as well as having minor work done by the shop. Most of the employees have been helpful but there are times when one of the longer term people in the service dept has been sometimes pleasant and others exceptionally rude. I think that her name is Katy? Whatever the case I just avoid going to her if I can. The longer term people at the parts counter are always helpful and while not cheery (which I don't really expect) they meet my expectations for professionalism in both manner and knowledge. I had one issue with service that is similar to those mentioned in other reviews. I took my all wheel drive minivan in to have a TPS replaced and the tires rotated. When the job was finished I went to leave and observed that the tires had not been rotated. I returned to the service counter and informed the service tech. She (one of the good ones) showed me on the work order where the tire repair guy indicated that the work was done. After explaining how I knew the tires had not been rotated she called the tire repair fellow in to ask him about it. He first said that they had been rotated but after I explained how I knew that they hadn't he admitted that he hadn't done the work because it's an all wheel drive vehicle and the tires don't need to be rotated. Bullshit. The service tech handled the situation very well and instead of debating the issue pulled the tire repair boy over to the side and both clearly and firmly told him that he is to perform the work that is listed on the work order regardless of what his opinion was and that he needed to notify her before making any changes. She never raised her voice but clearly made her point. I was quite impressed with her managerial skill. I still have minor service done (battery replacement, tire work) but am selective about what service tech I go to. read more

Decided to have my oil changed here and decided to have them change my spark plugs and distributor cap while at it. 3hrs after going into the bay they tell me the spark plug wires are bad. I asked if they used the spark plug boot puller for VW's and they looked at me like I had 3 heads. I looked at the wires and saw it was ripped apart from an idiot yanking it from the wire, but agreed to pay for a new set at cost. 2 more hours later I overhear the "mechanic" tell the salesman that he better get "that car out of here and if that guy has a problem with it, I'll punch him in the face." They call me up to the counter and ask why I wanted the plugs changed. I said it hadn't been done in awhile and I could feel the car miss sometimes. When I started it up to leave, it was barely running. Crossing rt 40 it wouldn't go over 15 mph. I googled the firing order for my wires and found two were crossed. Switched them and it ran fine. If their "mechanic" didn't know something as simple as this, he should be fired. I called customer service and told them I'm a fair guy. I'll pay for the oil change and wire cost, but none of the labor and that the mechanic should be fired, if not for the garbage work, then for saying he was going to punch me. They refunded what I asked, and the store mgr claimed he didn't like the mechanic and had other instances like this, so he was fired. Well, I went in to get some parts 6 mts later and he was still working there. If you want your oil changed and you have the $17.99 coupon, fine. But don't let these unqualified shadetree mechanics touch your engine. I DO like the parts department, and the Mgr Tim there has always done a great job, but stay away from the service side. read more

Wish I'd checked here first! While travelling we stopped in here for new tires after we got a flat. Next day we got another flat, broken valve stem core. 7 days later, different tire, same problem. Update called Pep Boys at 6:45 knowing they close at seven since I had not heard from them in reference to my vehicle. I went and picked up the vehicle and ask the associate would I have received a phone call letting me know the car is not get worked on and will be being done tomorrow,Associate said he didn't know if I would receive a call or not. A neighbor recommended this location of Pep Boys and I'm glad she did. I made an appointment for an oil change and the work started right on time. The staff of the service department was great. They were friendly, polite, and helpful. I did not, at any time, feel intimidated, and two employees went above and beyond to help me today: Katy Wright was amazing. She made sure that l took advantage of the current coupon and saved me money. The elder of two gentlemen behind the desk (don't know his name) gave me excellent advice regarding maintenance of my car. This was a minor service issue and they treated me very well. Negative integers stars. I apologize for not warning sooner. Very dishonest. Long story short, car needed a new bracket to hold on the muffler where it rusted thru, leaving muffler dragging. PepBoys not only lied about that but kept my car overnite, claimed to have checked it but the car literally didn't move AT ALL to be put up on a lift and inspected. How do I know? Set different traps which would have changed had anyone looked at the car. I suspected dishonesty on a prior visit, this sealed the deal. So the quote they gave me for having my car sit there over 24 hours was for a whole new exhaust system (I kid you not) work over $2,000! Versus the $50 I paid at Meike muffler who was very honest & therefore, very busy yet got us in & out quickly. SHAME ON anyone who works and cheats people there at PepBoys! read more

My Wife and Daughter have been going to Pep Boys in Bear Delaware for quite a while. The service manager Katie always takes care of us. Recently, my Daughter took her car to the dealer for an oil change, the dealer said my Daughter needed brakes. I made an appointment with Katie and was able to get her car in the next day. Katie called, and had some good news for us, we didn't need brakes. The Pep Boys in Bear have the most honest and helpful people. However, the employees were too busy just talking about nothing related to work. All of them were just the worse. I try to ask them again for help but they were just not helping at all. Wow I just had a totally different experience than the rest of the reviewers. I was traveling today from NY to VA when my tire pressure light came on. Since adding air to the tire didn't seem to fix the problem, I put the spare on and drove to Pep Boys and told them that I thought I had a slow leak. Dan at the service desk was very nice and assisted me right away, getting John to help me. Jon checked the low tire and confirmed that it wasn't a slow leak, so it must've just been low. He also checked the other three tires just in case. I had no issues with my tire after all and was on my way within a half hour. I had a very pleasant experience with Pep Boys and appreciated the help and patience with me that both Dan and Jon had. Also, I would've been the perfect candidate for them to upsell if they wanted to, as I was hundreds of miles from home and far from my destination. They did the right thing though and gave me comfort to know my tires were OK. Thank you for your help tonight! read more

If I could give one less star I would. With the exception of one associate who seemed to go above and beyond for customer service, my experience from the beginning was horrible. The communication within the team was poor; after speaking to various associates that morning in regards to why my car was towed and the services needed, my car wasn't serviced until I called back to check the status of my car only to be notified that the associate didn't know why my car was there which was a new tire and a replacement tire pressure sensor. After a week of driving with the tire pressure sensor still on I returned to this pep boys only to find out that I was charged for a sensor that I never received. I ordered tires online and made a appointment to have them Installed at 1:00 pm Saturday. I received a email saying my appointment was set. I arrived at 12:50 Saturday, and when I went in they said my tires were not there , they said I could comeback tomorrow and maybe they would be in, I said then why was my appointment set for Saturday? They had no answer. They then told me they had them at a different store and could go get them, it would take a hour to get them so I came back In a hour and a half, my tires were there I gave them my keys and they said they should get them one so I waited. A hour and a half later my truck was still in the parking lot, then someone asked what vehicle I was waiting on so explained that I have been there since 1:00 and my truck was still in the parking lot, now they can't find my keys. Finally after being at pep boys for three and a half hours my tires are on and not even a sorry for your wait !!! So I call customer service and put in a report, I get a call back from the store and all I get is excuses about the network being down, BULL SHIT!!! Long story short, my wheel had popped off my axle a few weeks ago and pep boys had the job to fix it! Fast forward to last night 8/28/2020 the opposite side of my car (passenger side) WHEEL POPPED OFF THE AXLE!!! When I confronted Kate (manager) about it today on how I was serviced and what the standard expectation was on fixing cars with my issue (front wheel axle damage) she said we only took at look at the wheel with the original damage and what my insurance was paying for! ARE YOU Fu**ing serious!???? I went on to ask her why is it that when ppl get oil changes you guys give back a report of 20 other things that need fixed???? She stated, " oh that's just a courtesy",... excuse me!!?? So therefore, for something as life threatening as a broken axle, there's no courtesy in that???? She had NOTHING TO SAY!! MY LIFE COULD OF BEEN OVER IF THE WHEEL DETACHED ON THE HIGHWAY!!! There was ZERO empathy or concern for life and repair and this shyt must stop here!!! Ordered tires for my 2008 Nissan Sentra. When I dropped off for installation I received a call that the tires ordered were the wrong size. They had the correct size but there was a price difference. I was quoted the price and I gave the go ahead. The price difference was significant when I arrived to pick up the car. I mentioned this to the sales rep and he introduced me to the Service manager Lee . Lee made it a point to honor the quoted price on the phone. Tim Graham is so personal and friendly and always goes out of his way to shake my hand whenever he sees me, and makes me feel like a VIP CUSTOMER, no wonder why Pep Boys has him as a manager. Juan and Katy in the service department make me laugh everytime I go in there with a problem. Unexpectedly got a flat tire on my way down to DC. After a very painful tire change at a rest stop off 495, and three other locations that had already closed for the day, I pulled into here at about 7:30PM on a Friday hoping and praying that I could get some new tires. Zee and Katy were more than helpful. My tires already had a lot of mileage on them, so they gave me a great deal on 4 brand new tires, and were able to fit me in before the shop closed at 9PM.
