Wow- surprised by all the one stars here! They have been nothing but good and fast to me. (And I am unattractive and don't look like I have money. I'm serious!) Our car wouldn't start and we didn't think it was the battery and they tested it and it WAS the battery and we were so happy! (That's the cheapest thing it could have been. Our minds prepared for the worst.) The reason I am giving it 5 stars is because they tested it, diagnosed the problem and changed our battery- ALL IN THE SPACE OF ONE HOUR ON A BUSY SATURDAY DURING PRIME TIME! (12:30PM-1:30PM.) About 2 weeks ago I bought a Meguairs auto detailing kit which was supposed lo contain a spray wax and 2 clay pads. When I opened the box today the clay pads were missing so back to Pep Boys. Since I didn't have the receipt, I didn't know if they would exchange it for me or not. Turns out that they cheerfully exchanged it. The store manager, Ruben happened to be at the register and he went over and picked out a new box for me. Although this may seem like a small gesture it was much appreciated by me because I have COPD and can't walk very far. The cashier, Jessmey, was also very helpful and friendly. Very poor service. We have caps that fit over the nuts on our wheels, which the took off and LOST, so that when we asked about them, they didnt look around or check, just said "I dont know what happened to them". Also filled the tires incorrectly so that we had to come back the next day and they had to re-do a portion of their work, which they admittedly did wrong. Go somewhere else, or have their inventory transferred to a different location, so you can work with different techs. They end up wasting some time with their carelessness, will have to find the lost parts online and replace myself, thanks for nothing. read more

Terrible customer service! I called at 6:45pm and spoke to Jesus. I told him I had a nail in my tire and needed it removed. He said if I bring in the car within the next 30 minutes he could do it today. They close at 9pm. Sounds reasonable. We get there less than 20 minutes later and he tells me he can not do it today and to come back tomorrow. I asked him "Why did you tell us to come within in a half hour if you can't do it?" He says "It's been more than a half hour." I said, "No it hasn't. It hasn't even been 20 minutes". He checks his phone and realizes I was right. Then he says "Well within that time 3 more cars show up for service." Yeah right?! 3 cars magically showed up?! This guy was lazy and didn't care! He even said that one mechanic is leaving for lunch. Lunch at 7pm?!! I had my 2 daughters (age 5 and 9) in my hands and asked him if he cannot take the tire out, to please just switch out our tire with our spare so we can drive home safe. He said he cannot do it. Pep Boys management, wake up and fire this lazy worthless employee! I'm never going back to Pep Boys again, and will tell everyone I know to do the same. read more

First i'm going to start off by saying most of the people who were working there were very helpful and friendly. Mario, one of the service workers (not a tech) was very nice and apologized for the issues I had. My tech (not sure what his name was) was also very helpful in getting the issue resolved. So this is my story: I come in for an oil change (I provided the oil and filter because my car requires a certain type that I had to special order) I chose Pep Boys because their labor rate was very fair compared to other shops. I walked in and first spoke to a service representative who's name was Steve. Steve told me my car would be ready in approximately 2 hours, I said ok and asked him to write a note on the work order specifying the amount of oil required in my car. Steve assured me that the techs knew what they were doing so he didn't bother to write it down. After that I had lunch which took me an hour and a half, when I returned I waited about 10 minutes until I saw the tech starting on my car. I wasn't paying much attention, as I was speaking to another frustrated customer. The one thing I did notice was that my bottle of oil was empty this means one two things-- 1. The tech dumped out the remaining amount of oil. -- Or 2. The tech overfilled my car with oil. It was 2. Once I spoke to the tech about the issue he apologized and drained the excess oil no problem. I assured the tech it wasn't his fault as my car is kind of difficult to service and explained to him that I asked Steve to WRITE A NOTE. Oh well. Not a big deal I suppose. Go inside to pay and Mario (nice guy) asks for my info. For some reason he can't find it, then he asks for my vehicle info. Mario tells me there's another name associated with the car. Mario now has to make a new work order with the correct info because Steve messed up the first one. Getting a little frustrated now. It's finally my time to pay and get the heck out of there! I finally pay and walk out the door.... and then.... I look at my receipt and the incorrect mileage is shown. Readers of this might not see that as a big deal, but that goes to CarFax, and if they see an inconsistent odometer reading, it will permanently mess up the CarFax. Go back inside and tell Mario, again, he was super helpful and fixed Steve's mistake once again. TL;DR : Be careful coming here, be weary of Steve, if you want something done right talk to Mario and keep an eye on your car. read more

I have been coming here for 3-4 years. I had a time off had to deal with dealership but eventually kept coming back here. Every time I had problem, I just came to Pep boys, I keep coming back at this store so I have the history of my car in hand with them. They are nice and easy to talk to, they arenhoneat and always get the job done. I had flat tire and I didn't get charge because I had reward point with them. It was pretty fair price but I can't deal with cheaper price and not knowing who my mechanic is or even dealing with dealership. I always try to make an appointment with them. From last year to this date, I had 2 times oil changes, getting new disc brakes, buying new tires including wheel alignment, smog check, flat tire. So far I don't have any nonsense problem. After being a loyal customer and rewards member for over 4 years, which is just about as long as I've had a car here in L.A, I was ready to completely give up on Pep Boys. NOT because of this location. Each time (3 to be exact) I came here it was to solve a problem due to a visit at a completely different location (YELP review to follow my Mon appointment. Yes I am giving them an opportunity to earn back some stars). It's difficult to write in detail about the whole situation, because it played out over a week; 2 locations, 5 visits, 6 phone calls, and I still have to go back to the location that I'm dreading on Monday. Not to mention, this is supposed to be a 5 star review. I just want to say that upon visiting this location today, and the way Josue V. went about making sure that everything was taken care of... my questions, concerns, and most importantly THE REPAIRS, I am going to continue coming to Pep Boys. ONLY this location. Even though it's out of my way, I just don't trust the other. Also Jose A., the mechanic that worked on my car today, thank you! From the minute I walked into the shop, to the point that I left, I felt like I was being taken seriously. He reviewed the work order from the previous week, listened to what I was saying, answered the questions I had, and explained what was wrong/missed. Imagine that... he found the problem, and fixed it. Now, I get that this is the same company as the shop that I felt just left me hanging... which they did. And even though there were things that may have been neglected/missed/faulty from the other garage, he was very professional. At NO point did he "blame" the other shop for missing something, not doing a repair correctly, or just having shitty service. Instead he just focused on informing me what was wrong, and the steps needed to fix it. Due to the fact that they did not have a part needed to complete the repairs, and it being a weekend, I HAVE to go back to the other shop Mon. He called that location and spoke with the manager to ensure that they will have the part and it will be taken care of. Honestly, I couldn't have asked for better service today. Josue is an asset to Pep Boys. He is the only reason I am still a client. I didn't even think about it until I left, but very clever of him how he informed me of what was wrong, and what needed to be done without giving blame to the other location whether it be their crappy customer service or work. I took my car in on Saturday afternoon to have a flat tire repaired.I was informed that my car would be ready in two to three hours. Less than an hour later I got a call and was informed that the tire was not repairable and would need to be replaced. I told them I would be back later to pick up the car and did not want to buy new tires. When I went back to get my car, the employee at the service desk got a phone call and asked me to wait a moment . After about five minutes he got back to me and then went to retrieve my keys .After two attempts to find my keys,I went back with him to identify my keys. I was not charged anything for the inspection of the damaged tire. On Monday my wife took the car in to Grand American Tire in Newhall where we had originally bought the tires that were on the car. Imagine my surprise to be informed that my flat tire tire was caused by a nail and it was repaired immediately. It might be that weekend work at Pep Boys is not up to their normal standards, but I had the distinct impression that they were more interested in sales than in service. read more

THE WORST PLACE I'VE EVER HAD MY CAR SERVICED AT!!! We were expecting excellent service, considering the pep boys we would visit in Nevada were always good to us, giving us good prices and making sure our car ran well and safe. This was NOT the case. We went to get our breaks serviced about 3 days ago, they were wearing out and we needed them replaced. They seemed competent enough so we trusted them to fix it. Lo and behold they found some other stuff wrong with the breaks besides needing the pads replaced, so we dropped about $700 to get them replaced and fixed completely so we would be roadtrip ready. The day we went to pick up our car, it seemed to run wonderfully! We were so happy, but the very next day, our car would not accelerate, it was chugging along and sputtering. We were going 45mph on the freeway and when flooring it the car would shake violently and it would slow down rapidly instead of speeding up. We were going 15 (Still flooring it) in the streets and barely made it home. We immediately called Pep boys and they said they'd gladly take our car in to check it out. We popped the hood because for some reason our car was radiating an excessive amount of heat, we looked inside to find a dirty oil stained rag on one of the tubes. We were pretty pissed because we had NO engine work done in the first place. We took it in the very next morning and asked them what was going on because we had NO engine work done, yet it was obvious someone had been messing around with the engine. The manager "Joshua" said that it was highly unlikely and mumbled his reason for why there was a rag in my car. He and a mechanic took a drive around in our car and said that it was running on fumes and when they popped the hood they found a "pinhole" in a tube for the oil and that it was leaking oil. They also made some crap reason for why the pinhole would be there. We never had that issue before we took it in there so of course we assumed some foul play. The manager offered to run an engine diagnostic on our car, for free of course. He suggested we come in the next day(today) because the diagnostics man was leaving when we got there yesterday, so we come in this morning around 11:30 and the manager we spoke to was not there. They had no work order put in to run a diagnostic for us so an employee offered to call him and ask what to do so we waited around for about 10 minutes and heard nothing from him, so we took off and took our car to Autozone in Glendale. There they confirmed our suspicion of foul play and told us what was really wrong with our car free of charge! I WOULD NEVER GO TO THAT PEP BOYS OR ANY PEP BOYS AGAIN. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED AND COMPLETELY APPALLED THAT I HAD TO PAY $700 TO GET MY CAR BACK IN WORSE SHAPE THAN IT HAD BEEN BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN. THESE PEOPLE ARE CROOKED SCAM ARTISTS. My car was having some issues and I came here to get it fixed. I had seen the bad reviews so I was a tad bit iffy but I took the risk. I did not regret it!! Service was great & the people were not rude. I had a few questions and was assisted by Carlos, I believe he is the service manager or assistant something like that, whom was kind enough to answer them all and trust me I ask A LOT of questions. My boyfriend and I went in to get our break lights replaced. Artur helped us out with that. He said there was an hour wait to get our cars fixed. He came outside to the parking lot to see who's light was easiest to fix. While he was doing that I found an extra light bulb in my compartment. Artur was kind enough to replace my break light for me with the new light bulb I found. It took about 3min and he didn't charge us. He also fixed my boyfriend's break lights as well, bc he also had an extra light bulb. Since those bulbs come in pairs. Artur is A-OK in my book. I will for sure come back. read more

Don't bother making an service appointment and expect your service to start within a reasonable time. I'm 40 minutes into my appointment and my car is still sitting. First of all check in was a joke. One of the previous reviews mentioned about the lack of communication or people skills... I agree. I don't want to go into all the details, but let's say I felt like I was doing Pepboys a favor by scheduling service. SMH Really? Learn how to talk to people like they're the customer coming in to patrionize your business. Don't say "go have a seat and we'll let you know when your car is ready"... Really? Go have a seat? What about Please have a seat in our customer waiting area and we'll update you on the progress of your repairs. I'm a grown a$$ man and I literally was about to put Al## in his place. Anyway, I got off point... My bad. I'm watching them wheel cars in while my car still sits. Hum did everyone else make an appointment before 10am? Like all 7 cars? I don't think so... Man this place needs to get it together. Appointments should be priority. Ok, one hour later... The car is finally in the bay. I'm getting a battery replacement so we'll see how long this takes. The battery is located under the seat, yes I know, it doesn't make sense why a car company would put a battery under the seat... so who knows how long this will take. Let us pray... 2 hours from my 10am appointment and I'm still waiting. Oh, looks like the mechanic just backed my car out. Wow, 2 hours and 8 minutes. Checkout is going to be interesting... I have a headlight that went out and needed the lightbulb changed. Called them to ask about pricing. They quoted me $125 for the bulb and $350 for labor. Bought the lightbulb at Autozone and took it to my local automotive store, and they charged $70 to change the lightbulb. I bought the lightbulb for $30, so it cost me loyal with tax $109. Pep Boys quoted me $525 with tax. I know you're a business that has to make money, but that quote was a ripoff. Even if you guys quoted $125 plus tax I probably would have paid extra for the convenience. Either have fixed prices for work on your website so people can compare, or be logical and understand people work hard for their money and should be treated with respect and a fair pricing. read more

I came in after getting my car jumped by AAA who said I had a dead battery. After sitting for an hour, not calling me to let me know they were done, and charging me around $160.00 for a new battery they told me my alternator wasn't working and that it needed to be replaced. My car is only 3 years old (2016 Honda Civic). They quoted me $800.00 for the alternator and $215 for labor. At this point something doesn't sound right, after speaking with my usual car guy I find out that these costs are too high, and something is off. So I make the decision to call AAA again, and have my car towed. Now here's the kicker, AAA shows up and I explain everything. The lovely man from AAA then proceeds to check my battery and turn on my car. Everything is working fine, my alternator is working perfectly, and now I know to trust my gut. Shame on this place for trying to charge me over $1,000. I may not be a mechanic or know much about cars and their inner workings, but I do know when I'm being scammed. My Battery for my car I bought here has consistently gone dead and found defective some 4 times in a row from this same location. Today I was told that my battery though defective was not replaceable even though they gave it to me only last year. Definetly some feeble answer given rudely by the store manager as to why they had no record of the sale or exchange. Left without my battery and felt majorly scammed by the attitude and the whole experience. It's hard to judge mechanics when you don't know anything about cars. Some people are wired to think most are fair, while others are wired to believe they're getting ripped off no matter what. But my experience at this PepBoys has always been good. Over the years, I've had tires put on, brakes done, and headlights replaced. More than once I've pulled in with a small issue and they've fixed it free. I have nothing to complain about. But I can't give 5 stars because my wife swears they don't know what they're doing. She had one bad call on an engine mount issue, which we ultimately had fixed elsewhere, and is not forgiving. All things considered, I still go for basic stuff like tires, brakes, oil changes, headlights, and wipers. But for more complicated issues, I go someplace. read more

I feel like I'm a regular here, LOL! I come here because Artur is great and I get coupons in the mail for 20% off of oil change and $50 off on service that costs over $100. Artur is good at explaining the problems I've had with my car (windows, air conditioning, etc) and friendly with answering my questions as I always like an in depth explanation. I recommend making appointments and dropping your car off right when they open if you want your car back same day. This is a busy spot. I would give it 5stars if getting cars fixed wasn't so expensive in general, but price depends on what type of car you have. read more

I ran over a nail and needed to replace just the one tire. Costco didn't have my brand so I brought it in here. They helped me out quick and easy, didn't try to upsell me anything I didn't need, set me up with a military discount, and when they asked the mileage and I replied "70 something, due for an oil change. I'm about to head to Jiffy lube next because their price is usually lower," they price matched it without blinking or even waiting for me to ask. Helped me out on the installation cost too and saved me having to change the spare back to the new tire (my shirt appreciates the lack of dirt it is now able to continue experiencing). Short version: these guys are good, efficient, and cost effective. I'm a normal person not prone to reviewing things on yelp. Just figured I'd help these guys out because they always help me and I don't know why their ratings are so low. read more

I was having a bad week with my car, put new tires on then my car didn't start the next morning. Got a jump and went straight to Pep Boys. Myron checked me in and listened to what I thought was going on with the car. I work down the street, so I left my car with them while I was at work. I got a call shortly after I dropped it off to update me on the things that needed to be addressed along with the pricing (it was MUCH less than I expected). I picked my car up after work and paid less than was quoted because of a promotion they were running. I would absolutely recommend this location to anyone wanting HONEST work done on their car. When you ask them for help the don't even show you options of what you can get. When talking to you the act super rude the much extremely hate their jobs! This is Burbank not the ghetto even people in El Monte has better service and act more nice. And I know what because I grew up in that area. Just had a really strange experience. Was done with my oil change (paid for their most expensive premium synthetic oil package.) After my car was ready, I checked my empty windshield wiper fluid which was still empty (strange, the place I usually go to refills that for us but no biggie.) I popped back into the store, purchased some fluid, and returned to my car to refill it myself. Noticed a ton of leaves up by my windshield under the hood and swept them aside. Suddenly, a mechanic back under the OPEN AIR working area screamed at me to put trash in the trash can if I was cleaning out my car. I couldn't understand what he was upset about as I was parked outdoors... under a tree... surrounded by other fallen leaves around me... that I thought had maybe fallen there.... since, you know, we were outside and they'd parked the car by a tree. I didn't want to fight with some random mechanic dude, so I hopped in my car, which is when I noticed they didn't put a little sticker notating when I'm due for my next oil change. That's pretty much STANDARD at every single other place I've taken a car to get the oil changed. So, yeah, I have to assume they aren't great at other service if they can't get an oil change down. I had one issue with the electronic relay switch in my car. I ran it through the full diagnostics from the computer before coming here, bought the part, asked them to install it. Over the phone they said sure sounds great. In person they said they needed to run their own diagnostic and it would be over $100! What, this is dumb. Just fix the part. Ineffective signage, times two I only occasionally visit this Pep Boys to buy car detailing stuff. In that regard, I have no strong feelings one way or the other; they always have what I need. However ... When stopping by today, I noticed the signage which faces the parking lot that ostensibly prohibits customers from doing maintenance on or otherwise repairing their cars there. So, it was somewhat of a disconnected visual when I also noticed a guy working under the front of his Mustang immediately to the right of the main door ... and in a blue-stripped Handicap Zone no less. Are you kidding me? I remarked on this to the cashier as a point of irony. She responded that if they were to call the police the offending customer would get angry. So, I gather that you may tinker with your ride to your heart's content in this store's parking spaces. Perhaps you can even pump out the RV's waste tank into their dumpster. Come on down! read more

I rarely leave bad reviews, but the experience I had was simply unacceptable. I had my break pads replaced (both front and back) and the rep sold me on both saying there's a great promotion going on and a rebate over $80 if I replaced both. I filed my rebate online the very next day -- mind you this was back in February!! Still no rebate. I've emailed their rebate center time and time again with no response! Bad business practices all around. I will be filing a claim with my CC since I have no other choice -- it's been over 6 months now! Will file a claim with the Better Business Bureau and the FTC. If i could give negative stars trust me I would. Don't waste your time and money and this location. Today 11/18 I went in to have my battery changed. My appointment was at 2:30 and they were good with taking the truck in at that time and changing the battery. It gets done i go pay grab my keys and walk to my truck. I get in and notice my head unit is stuck on even with the truck off. This never happens. So I pop the hood look around, turn the truck on and off a few times just to see and still stuck on not working at all. So I go back in and speak with the service manager letting him know whats going on. And here is where it gets fun. The manager told me there is nothing he can do about it to please come back tomorrow and have it serviced for a electrical issue. I DO NOT HAVE A ELECTRICAL ISSUE. I said im not paying for that service I would like the technician to come back out and see what he did wrong. The technician is standing right there he said all I did was start the truck pull the terminals off replace the battery and put the terminals back on i didnt disconnect anything. So the manager says you heard what he said nothing is wrong come back tomorrow. So at this point I'm getting mad. I asked if I can speak to a different manager he said the numbers are on your paperwork. So I go back out call the 2 numbers and of course no one answers I leave messages and no call back. So I go back in the store ask the manager to please have the technician come back out and look at his work to figure out what he did wrong and why my head unit is not working and stuck powered on even when the the truck is off and drawing power. The technician comes out and says the same crap he said in the store. Didn't even try to fix it. He gets in my truck turns it on, pushes some buttons, messes with my headlights turns the truck off and says i don't know talk to the manager. So I once again go back in and tell the manager the problem is not resolved. I asked if they can at least take off the red wire for my head unit so that my truck doesn't catch fire as my head unit is super hot now. So the technician comes back over says i never touched the red wire, pulls the fuse out and says now it should be fine. The head unit is still on He says i don't know what to tell you. So as I get ready to go back in again a very sweet young gentleman comes over and asks me whats going on. Mind you he doesn't normally work at this location he works in Santa clarita. So I explain. He gets in starts the truck looks at a few things, turns the truck off, gets out and goes to plug the fuse back in and it shocks him. Power still on, truck off. So he asks if he can disconnect everything and restart. I told him yes please. So he disconnected the positive terminal looks at the red wire and boom he sees the issue. Fixes the way the guy connected the red wire (remember dumb nuts said he never touched the red wire) and boom the head unit finally turns off now when i turn my truck off. All it takes is a technician who actually knows what they are doing. They need to hire a manager who actually gives a damn to fix the problems the technicians cause and who is more respectful. They need more technicians like the one who came over and fixed the problem someone else caused. I will be contacting corporate again tomorrow as now I have issues with my head unit. read more
