So my truck blows a hose. I go to Community Chevrolet to get the part. They have it in stock and they want $92 for the hose. With my truck still parked at that dealership I walk over to Pep Boys. I buy the hose there for $1.50. Yep, you read that right, $1.50. The people working at Community should be wearing ski masks at this point. The only reason I did not give Pep Boys more stars is that they have a hard time keeping items in stock like light bulbs and such for your specific vehicle. I can't tell you the number of times I've been there asking for something only to have their sales people tell me to go to another auto parts store. If Pep Boys headquarters knew how poorly this place was run and that they are forever sending customers to their competitors they would fire the lot of them. Oh yeah, and what's with the nasty attitude from the female cashiers? Probably the biggest bunch of dipshit mechanics I've ever been to. Couldn't fix my front end creaking problem, yet had no problems charging me $600 for repairs for nothing. After three alignment tries, I gave up and left. Corporate was no help either, they wouldn't refund my money. Don't ever, EVER take your car here. Go to the one on Burbank Blvd. at least they know how to wipe off the grease stains after they put them on your door. I wouldn't take my car here if they offered to fix it for free. Can't wait for the corporate response of email us here and we'll look into it. No you won't. I did that, I called and I emailed. All you did was send me to another location. DO NOT COME HERE! Go to Glendale instead! Now that that's out of the way, I just had a lovely conversation with "Steve" at the service counter who just tried to charge me over $60 to replace my headlights, which is astronomical. It turns out that half of that cost was for labor. I've been to the Glendale location countless times & they have always replaced my lights for free as long as I purchase the bulbs. I explained this & Steve argued with me saying that I must be mistaken, even though he could've looked at my past records at the computer in front of him. What a terrible first experience. I ended up just buying the bulbs, but I wouldn't have spent any money there if I hadn't been on my lunch break & in a hurry. Also, I think they may have screwed me over with the bulbs too, because they gave me two separate ones instead of a two pack (which is always cheaper). I didn't have the energy to argue that one, but fortunately I grabbed the manager's card on my way out. By the way, all of this took about 20 minutes because I had to wait in 3 different lines (service, then parts, then checkout) & they weren't even busy. read more

If I were his boss and saw that happening, I would can the guy right there. It's not acceptable to treat customers that way. Everything took about 3 times longer than estimated. This is BEYOND the worst auto service in all of Burbank!! I've come to this Pep Boys a couple times out of sheer convenience, and almost every time I have been extremely disappointed. Customer service is definitely NOT part of the training program for this store, that's for sure! I have had to sit in their waiting room for TWO HOURS just for a standard oil change, and that was with an appointment! (This was also when they opened at 8:00am on a weekday, mind you.) Today, however, takes the cake! Not only was the service HORRIBLE, but the man who was helping me out had a terrible attitude. Not to mention, that when I finally got fed up and asked for his information he LIED about his name -- I'm sure in fear that I would report him to his manager. I've been in here 2-3 times and he helped me out so much! I normally hate going to pep boys for anything because they're never helpful. Spent an hour and a half waiting for my car to be pulled in fro an oil change. Then, my car sat in the bay for another 20 minutes before they even started working on it. I also wanted a tire rotation, which they claimed I did not need after they finished the oil change. That is fine with me, but last time I went there they said I would need one on my next visit. Now I don't know if they were trying to sell me stuff I didn't need, or just felt like they were getting backed up and were cutting on the time spent on my vehicle. Also, the poor guy who had been waiting for his car for 3 hours had one if his doors scratched there. Not coming here again! read more

Pep Boys on Olive Street in Burbank definitely need weekly training classes or meetings on how to properly give outstanding customer service. I have worked in customer service for 20 years and I have definitely seen the decline of customer service skills with all companies that I have come in contact with in the past several years. This Pep Boys is one of them. In the decline of the crappy customer service age, I have witnessed this lackadaisical attitude that is commonly being displayed where customer representatives do not show any interest in making sure that the customer is treated with kindness nor an interest in solving customer issues. Considering that we as customers are paying or potentially paying a lot of hard earned money with a company you would think that showing respect and gratitude would be one of the treatments that we would receive with out a second thought and not playing hot potatoe with our time and schedules would be at the forefront of your thinking. I walked into Pep Boys last Friday to see about a smog repair and was given a half hearted lazy greeting that is common these days with most companies I patron. When I was finally called up to the desk, I was told to come back on Sunday as a technician would be available to take care of the issue then. So I waited the couple days and again drove back to the Pep Boys to start the process of trying to have the repair done. I waited while three representatives completed whatever they were doing at their desks, even though I was the only customer around. When the representative from Friday called me up at his convenience, he asked what I needed and again told him what I needed repaired and he began to go on and on about how busy the smog tech was for the day and I would need to return on Wednesday. Needless to say frustration started to set in as he pulled up some totals of what I would need to pay on his computer screen and he was not at all apologetic nor concerned about the inconvenience of haphazardly telling me to return without checking the techs schedule. I then had to ask him if there was another Pep Boys who could do the job and he lazily just rattled of locations all around Los Angeles and Never suggested that I set an appointment for Wednesday or call another store for me as I would have done, to insure my vehicle could be repaired somewhere that day. But I guess that would be asking him to actually put in some work and effort. I then left the store and called another location in Sherman Oaks which then told me they would not have a tech for 45 days. What ? So needless to say I went back inside the store and had to ask if they are able to set up appointments. I was then told yes and given a time but was reassured to expect the worse by the representative as he told me that even though I have an appointment, don't expect to have your appointment time met and that it could possibly take all day. Again, my suggestion. Pep Boys, let's do better with representatives and their customer service training, showing respect for people's time and giving customers reassurance that their problems can be solved in a decent amount of time. DISAPPOINTED! SO DISAPPOINTED! I'll start out by saying, I've been taking my car to the various Pep Boys stores in the chain for many years. I put my trust and faith in the Pep Boy's name. Consequently, I never thought to get a 2nd opinion. Been a loyal customer at this one exclusively for over one year. Mostly because this location has great customer service + convenient to my house. We could walk home when we needed to drop off the car for repairs. Recently I took one of my cars there for a diagnostic on a major oil leak I was noticing for several days. The check-engine light was also on. They (Chris) called me back to tell me I needed a new oil pump. $1200. It would be a 2 day job :( This is certainly not what I anticipated to be the answer. I told him I would stop in and pick up the car at the end of the day. There were nice enough to fill it up with oil, at no charge. In February I had my oil changed here at this location. How is it that the car suddenly requires an oil pump??? We barely put 400 miles per week on the vehicle. Immediately I called another mechanic shop (referred to me by a friend). The owner there, told me with confidence, that the leak was being misdiagnosed. Bring it to him the next morning, and he would diagnose the problem quickly. This shop was also in my neighborhood. The problem..... The fix? * * * * * * * * *A new timing belt, + a new water pump. * * * * * $350. * * * Vehicle was ready during the afternoon. - - - - - - - - - - - - Lesson Learned = It 's good advice to have a 2nd opinion! I made an appointment online to have tires installed. I used the tire selection tool, picked the cheapest ones, applied a discount and selected "pay in store." When my husband got there he was told that those tires weren't for our car. He stood at the counter repeating my furious texts with questions like "why wouldn't the website know what kind of tires are correct" and "why can't he honor the price in some way if he is a manager?" Essentially they wanted at least another fifty bucks for other tires. (That is almost a bait and switch, by the way. You're supposed to tell me you sold out and only have the next model up.) Eventually my husband and the manager could not see eye to eye, my husband left. I am not one to leave things unanswered, I want to know why I just reserved tires he says don't work. Off to call customer service main number. I selected web support with the remotely possible idea that I missed a selection and got the wrong tires myself or the website really did give me inadequate options. The technician recreated my order and got the same tire choices I had. He was appropriately surprised as operator error (mine) was the most likely culprit for choosing tires that were wrong. I was asked if my husband would be willing to call to iterate his conversation so that they could then contact the manager and try to sort it out. I said that he would but that we would most likely not be returning to the store to buy tires at this point. So my husband called corporate, they called the manager, corporate called my husband back and they all had a hot little three way then offered me a price that was still more than the website and was not a deal other than being cheaper than everyone immediately around us. Yeah, I am that lady but I looked online and was going to go elsewhere. I opted for PepBoys because of location and price. I had been there before and the service wasn't stellar. You get what you pay for and here is where they cut the dollars. I decided since corporate had *tried* (loosely defining "try" as making any effort at all) to work with me maybe I could work with them and I picked out new tires on the website, gave my husband the model number and was AGAIN told those aren't speed rated (or some such made up bs) for my car. Speed rated for a Kia, dude? C'mon. Yeah me in the Grand Prix 2014. Wanna sell me an undercoating? Once is a fluke, twice is a ploy.... I have resigned that THIS IS a bait and switch scheme, they just aren't good at it. Exasperated but not wanting to fight further we took a deal and got the damned tires but you can tell I am not overall happy about the whole experience. Made an appointment to have my first service using the Pep Boys Pre-Paid Service Plan I purchased when I bought the car. It was the first appointment of the day and I arrived a little early to makes sure I can get in and out. 9:20AM rolls around and I am finally seen by someone. I present the coupon and he says it will take about 2 hours. No problem. 10 minutes later he walks up and says that I "will have to bring the cat in another day." Why!? Because they cannot verify that my coupon is valid... Why? Because the office is closed.... ah... I am sure this has happened before, couldn't you have verified that before you booked the appointment? The service plan is a Pep Boys service plan... I don't understand how this is possible... when I purchased this plan (which wasn't cheap), they didn't say that I can't have service on Sundays.... and the rep was very dismissive... now I have to figure out another day DURING THE WEEK to have my car serviced. Part of me wants to give three stars for the times they do good work - respect to the guys who have been there for ten years or longer, they usually know how to to make money for Pep Boys and get your repair done at the same time. I've given them $5K business over ten years. My last two visits have left me feeling somewhat burned. I took daughter's car in for leaking brake line and ended up having service writer refuse to do the repair unless front and rear brakes were done at same time. He brought in mechanic and kept prompting him to say repairs were imminent or urgrent or such. Mechanic just looked at him while I asked about thickness of rotors and wear of pads. Went in this week to exchange gas mower for discounted electric as part of their settlement with EPA over emission non-compliant Chinese motorcycles. Display said bring working mower in with gas drained. Drained tank and took mower to store. Employee say to start it since mower has to run. I mention that I just drained it like their display said. Don't know whether their corporate management or lawyers wanted empty mower for safety or evaporative smog issues but four workers at store wanted to see it run. DON'T EVER GO HERE. EVER! Negative 50 stars. Not even one. First I have to start with my moms car. She took it there for a oil change(after I warned her not to bring it there.) The next day her check engine light came on. Keep in mind- her car is almost brand new! She took it to Napa Auto Care in Burbank and they told her that the cars hoses were cut. There is no doubt in my mind Pep Boys did this. They did it to my dad years ago and I have heard this place doing it to many different people. What a shit-hole. Me: I went there early on morning before work because I had a coolant light on. I asked them to check it out and after two and a half hours they told me that my radiator cap was off and that was the problem. It took them two hours to put a cap on with nobody in front of me. They charged me for it. A few hours later the light came on again. I went in there before they closed to have them look at it better this time. They "looked at it" and when I asked what was wrong with it they said "I don't know." When I asked if it was safe to drive to a real mechanic they said "I wouldn't know." So I asked for my money back and they had me wait around for a half hour. They started to close the store and said "Oh well I want to close so you can comeback if you want a return" I stayed put until they got I got my money back. Pep boys prices are good, which is why I went there. But this location is terrible. Its almost like they don't want your business. After waiting in line for 30 minutes to drop off my car, it look them 4 hours to run a test on my car to find out why the check engine light was on. Then when I asked them if they could fix it, they told me they would have to run another $100 test to see exactly what was causing the problem, then charge me for the repair. This is following a trip to them last week for new tires, GREAT CHEAP TIRES. But it took them 8 hours to install the tires, because they lost my car for the first few hours. After today's visit I will never visit Pep Boys again. read more

Fuck this place. My man friend & I went here after we saw the guy at the car wash having jump start his car in order to move it. Walking towards the back of the Pep Boys, we go fetch the battery & lug it up to the front counter. The guy behind the counter, Danny, was talking to another employee who then told us how 'cute & small' the battery was. Ok... Danny had us drive around to the back & after 5 minutes, came into the waiting room to tell us that nothing was wrong, the battery was fine & everything checked out fine & then just starred at us like he was waiting for us to tell him what to do next. We said, "Ok, great, thanks so much!" & went on out merry way. First red flag: as we got in the car, it wouldn't start right away. Hmm, weird, but we took DANNY's word for it & drove off towards Pasadena to run some errands. After about a half hour of the car being off & parked, the thing wont start! We had to call AAA to come save us! Luckily the AAA guy was totally cool & fixed us up in no time. Yay for AAA! Boo for Pep Boys. read more

Great experience. The customer service was very hospitable. The time estimations they gave me to fix my tire was very accurate and quick.

They cross threaded a spark plug in my engine when I took it in for a tune up. After they did that, my car started misfiring. I took it to the dealership and they said I'd have to have the engine machined because the cross threading messed up my engine. I took it back to pep boys and they denied doing anything to it until I calmly and politely pointed out to them that my car was fine before taking it in. I was doing preventative maintenance in my car. It's not like anything was broken. Needless to say, I had to take it to a different mechanic (read: Firestone) and they were able to provide somewhat of a solution. My car will never run the same. This was the last time I ever went to Pep Boys after countless disappointments. There's a Firestone in North Hollywood and they tend to be more knowledgeable and reasonable. I've been going to this Pep Boys for about 15 years and I would say it's out of convenience. Just about every time I come in I hear a "loud" customer with a gripe either with their service department, the cash register, or parts. I never paid any mind to it. In fact, I just scoffed at it. Instead, I should have realized that something was just waiting to happen to me. And it did. First off, I must have used my rewards card for so many purchases. I've never received any "rewards." Sure I get the emails from Pep Boys about sales, but no rewards. I get a steady amount of rewards from other places like Office Depot, Ralphs, CVS, Discover, et al. Nothing from Pep Boys. I asked a cashier about it. She told me to call customer service. Not the answer I wanted to hear. Second. I purchased a SDX Audio Speaker on Dec 29, 2014. It was priced at $59.99 and was advertised with a $10 rebate coupon, which was at the cash register. Cashier said "sorry we dont have it." I paused and let it alone and paid for the speaker less the rebate. Brought it home and opened the box. The speaker was damaged. I should have returned it right away. Instead I waited til May 4, 2015. The 90 Day warranty passed. I asked if they could make an exception given that I've been a long time customer. They said "Sorry, no." I asked if there was anyway I can get this replaced by Pep Boys or the vendor. She said, "I don't know, sorry." Again, not the answer I wanted to hear. I restrained myself not wanting to be a "loud" customer. I got in touch with the vendor in Rhode Island. They apologized on behalf of Pep Boys, which wasn't necessary. Good news for me, they'll replace it, but I have to pay for shipping. It would have been a lot easier if Pep Boys just allowed me to exchange it. I had the receipt too! Lessons and things for Pep Boys. 1) Revisit the Customer Service Handbook. 2) Why offer the rewards card if we're not being rewarded? 3) Give your long-time customers the benefit and allow them to exchange products within reason. Lastly, don't patronize me by having Joe respond to this review and apologize for my experience followed by asking me to email it Customer Service Center. Damage has been done. That's why people go on Yelp. Don't worry. I'll probably will be back to buy something like an air freshener or a wrench. read more

Benjamin checked me in for a synthetic oil change which to my delight comes with a tire rotation. Love that cuz I seldom to remember to rotate my tires. Know this place has a negative reviews but my experience was excellent. The work was fast and efficient. Benjamin let me know my break lights weren't working. They had checked the bulbs and fuses - they were good. I never would have noticed that and realize how important that finding was for me. Their electric mechanic was on vacation and they couldn't fix it - but I was glad they found it. So it's now a year later Feb. 22, 2019 went for a synthetic oil change and they could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Still highly recommend. read more

Two months ago I needed an oil change and 105k maintenance on my 2013 Mazda3. I went to this pep boys, Kevin was courteous and helpful and I was in and out of there in quite a reasonable time and a very good price. I respect that no one was trying to upsell me for unnecessary service. I wanted to change the air filters on my car as well however they didn't have the parts, they said I could order them but they also said it's a very easy DIY process and not being of immediate need I agreed. Had no problems getting my car service when in for the initial all change added windshield wiper added a wheel alignment lifetime,All I had to do was is call in and add the services. Just my luck I got pulled over in front of my mother's house... hahahaha, it was funny! Okay before the cop even stepped out of the black and white I was out asking, why are you pulling me over? Broken back break light! Really did that require the lights and sirens, I was even told next time you see those lights, you pull over ASAP!!! Anyways...after they discovered I'm not a felon, they didn't even waste the time to write me a ticket, just to fix it and where I live in Burbank, I would had been ticketed so first thing I did was head to this Pep Boys I've been here once before but did self service purchase, this time around, I needed assistance and waited 10 minutes before someone came to the " service area" once I was given my lights and knew how to replace the bulbs since I read my manual, I asked can someone do it for me, with great joy he said but of course for a service fee and you have to go to the a different counter, are you serious? I remember when the employees use to do it just to give you great customer service.. so Pep Boys your customer service is horrible and I don't recall ever being asked to have to pay to change a simple bulb. read more

All I can say is, if PESSIMISM was a car repair, they'd be the absolute best in the business!! I had established myself with one Pep Boys Store over the years feeling that because they are a commercial chain, my risk of being gauged outta money would be reduced... The epitome of why women hate going to mechanics! I was referred to this Pep Boys by my regular Pep Boys store. They had been my exclusive car maintenance service, until I finally failed a smog check and they weren't equipped to solve the issue. They were nice and wrote down an address to a sore that could help me. I dreaded having to go somewhere else, because I knew how long it took to establish a repoire with the initial Pep Boys and I feared having to 're-invent the wheel'. After driving through rush hour holiday traffic with my 5yr old in tow, I patiently waited for what seemed like an excessive amount of time. About 20minutes. During that time, at least 5-6 different mechanics came out all at once to converse around the computer and then they disappear back to the garage. Could they all have been too busy to even acknowledge me? (Especially since I was the only one standing and waiting) The 6th (or 7th) mechanic was having one extra long conversation with the one customer ahead of me about a battery replacement when I walked in. There was no one behind me. There was absolutely no acknowledgement whatsoever from any of them. I finally get to the one guy that is apparently assigned to talk to people. Without even so much as looking at my paperwork, all I'm being greeted with is all of this dismissive, negative, impersonal, generic company rhetoric ranging from the absence of the smog mechanic, to how he won't be there all week, how very serious my smog repair can/will be, how my car model (Toyota Matrix) can/will be expensive, then he's taking me through all the expenses and steps it will take for my car to pass my smog test, and while I'm attempting to tell him that I'd already been through a few step in the process, he is repeatedly talking over top of me and not listening. Oh, he just knew it all! It was to the point that I started fantasizing about choking the 'beep' outta him...i mean, he had nothing positive nor encouraging to say about my situation and then 5 minutes into his mouthing off, only then, does he finally look at my paperwork from my initial failed smog check and realizes that he had jumped the gun. He finally sees some of what I was trying to convey to him. So, while still managing to hold my composure, I try to get recommended to another Pep Boys in which the smog mechanic is actually present. He knows 'everything' but didn't know anything about that and didn't seem to envision looking up a number or address or volunteering any information to make this any easier. He spoke to me like he knew everything no I knew nothing. When I tallied up all of the fees he was quoting, I felt that I felt could get it done for less and said so. He challenges backing more negative rhetoric about why it wasn't going to happen, continues talking over top of me...Then, of course, the cliche "I don't set the prices" OMG! Does he really think that I would believe that he sets the prices? Needless to say, It was the a frustrating 35 minutes...i felt like it was him vouching for, gauging for and rallying behind his colleagues against me...I left in disappointment and accomplished nothing but to be annoyed. There's a lot to be said about how to approach a customer in a business. I once fired a tax accountant for telling me "Wow, you're gonna owe a lot of taxes" before he calculated my itemizations, in which case I'd gotten a refund. Why stress people out before you even have all of the facts? Listen to people when they are trying to communicate with you! Acknowledge customers after excessive wait times. Notice when they areas least 20 years older than you and treat them accordingly! Learn the facts about the case before you start mouthing off about how bad it's gonna be. How about presenting the positive side of the situation? How about being knowledgeable about the company you work for?! Stop talking over your customers. I tried to say some of this to him also, but I'm sure it went in one ear and out of the other. So, I will seek another business to deal with my car...and I will get better customer service and I will pay less and I did write this review just to get it off of my spirit. read more

I'm pretty shocked this place has such bad reviews. I had amazing service starting off with my phone call with Mario. He looked up the part I needed and told me he probably couldn't get it till the next day. I had my car towed to Pep Boys and he came out to look at the car. He told me to leave it over night and their mechanic would look at it in the AM. He called me back the next morning and told me they could rush the part and have it completed by the end of the day. My car took a little longer than expected but that's because it was a pretty big job. None the less, the entire time that I was waiting, Steven kept coming and updating me on the car. The mechanic, Gomez, stayed later than his scheduled time to complete the job. I am very appreciative for the group that worked on my car and I am hoping that I didn't mess up on any of their names! read more

I've been to this Pep Boys several times and the Service Center is fantastic. I have a Mercedes and they have a specialist who has taken great care of my car. I also bought tires and have been back for basic tire care and maintenance. They are timely, helpful and very informative. Garson is great! Ask for him if you are getting service done. read more

I will never go to Pep Boys again for Service from my experience on W Olive in Burbank. I purchased from Pep Boys a headlight bulb for my Xterra and needed it to be put in. After inputting information on his computer, he said it would be $110 to put in the headlight bulb. I said I was at the Pep Boys in Hollywood and they said we charge $15 to put the bulb in but there is a long wait time. I also mentioned I saw it on YouTube how to pop it out but I am a girlie, girlie and it took the man a minute to do it. His response was as he showed me the computer screen, it will take a little over an hour to put the bulb in and it may look like a minute on YouTube. I said, "I rather flag someone down on the street and asked them to put in my headlight bulb than to pay $110. I went to a small mechanic shop that put the headlight bulb in for FREE!! It took the guy less than a minute. He pulled on the plug and used a screwdriver to push down on a clip. Now, that's what I'm talking about. I will never go to Pep Boys again! read more

If you value your time, do NOT go here. It took them 2.5 hours to change an oil when they told me it would only take 1 hour and 30 minutes. The employees were nice but I wont be back since other places can change oil in about 30 minutes. read more

Wow I will never take my car here for an oil change again! I waited twice the length of time I was told it would take, paid, then waited another 45 minutes after I was told they were done for the maintenance light to be reset. When I checked in on my car I was told they still needed time to set the light and didn't understand why I was frustrated at all! Total wait time on a "20 minute" oil change- 1 hour 45 minutes. And my service light STILL wasn't fixed. UGH. Wish I had checked the yelp reviews before taking my car here. Not worth it- way too much of a hassle! read more

Are there no longer people with integrity, honesty, fairness? I went in this morning for 4 new tires. $860+ and he said I'll make it $900. I called him on it and he then said what if I make it $850. I said no. Give me my key - I'll go somewhere else. As I'm leaving he says what if I make it $835. You bring a curse on your life and that business for attempting to steal from people. Shame on you. The store here is fine... they have plenty of stuff to choose from and competitive prices. I have no problem with the store. This review is about the service center. If you want an oil change and you want to come here, okay. But don't let those clowns talk you into anything else. Do not take your car here if you suspect something is wrong with it. Do not go here if you are pressed for time. Do not go here expecting them to fix your car problems. The staff doesn't give a crap about anything. This place screwed me over and a couple others that I know and I urge you to avoid this place! read more

By far the worst pep boys in LA. I've been to several others. Simple repairs took two hours when it seemed like only one other lady was in front of me. She told me she had been waiting for hours herself. Frustrated employees asked others for help and they said someone was sleeping in the back. The other said he was helping customers on the floor when the place was totally dead. Hire better managers and supervisors. Clearly there is an issue at this location. read more

I understand that shelves need to be restocked, but there are 5 of you and only 2 people in the store, just asking if I needed help would've been great. But all I heard were crickets. Well, that and a lot of joking around. Which I have nothing against, whatever you need to make it through your shift (it was only 9 am). Won't come back here again. read more
