I made an appointment for 2:00 pm the following day at pepboys.com for an oil change. I received a confirmation email as well. Arrived at the store 15 minutes early, went to the service desk and informed them of my appointment. The service manager looked it up and asked if I had made the appointment with the store and I explained I made it online. He told me he was sorry but online appointments aren't confirmed with the store so they weren't aware of it and were too busy to do it that day, but I could make an appointment for another day. A bit stunned, I confirmed with him there was no interaction with their store for appointments made at pepboys.com. He said that is correct. Which means appointments made online are meaningless! Just a way to get you to the store I guess. I drove 20 minutes there, and back home, for nothing. I'd planned to talk to them about purchasing new tires while they changed my oil. Needless to say, I won't be considering them for tires, or any other services for that matter. With so many businesses seamlessly adding online access to services and products it was surprising to have this experience with a billion dollar nationwide business, who's implementation was incomplete and ended up being a sham. read more

This was my first and last time using Pep Boys. I had an appointment to drop my car off at 1:30pm At 4pm they called to tell me that they did not have my tires in stock and I needed to bring my car back another day. First issue- I purposely scheduled an appointment and my car was not seen for 3 hours. When they should have did a stock check when I called to make the appointment. I went to pick up my car and drove it a few miles and then it started to make a noise that it never made. I brought the car back and had a lot of trouble communicating this to the mechanics. A mechanic drove the car with me in passenger and confirmed there was a noise-- that wasn't there before I left my car with them. I left my car again and was told they would look at it and to come by in 2 hours. I came back and was given 3 different stories that it was looked at and they weren't sure what the noise was from, Then I was told there was another test drive and there is no noise, and then told that no one test drove it or looked at it. The mechanic couldn't even look at me and kept trying to walk away when I was asking for more information. I've now wasted a whole day with this place, without a car, did not get new tires, and now have an additional issue with my car, that a team of "professionals" can't diagnose. read more

Came here for brakes and service on a '14 Ford Fiesta. First, this has to be one of the most expensive brake jobs I've witnessed. Front disc only, $200 + $150 for rotors = $350. Maybe it's me, but $350 for front discs and pair of rotors seems overpriced to me. More concerning though is the service package includes tire rotation. Well they weren't rotated and if I hadn't noticed it there was nothing on my paperwork that said it wasn't done. This isn't the first place that "accidentally" overlooked a service that was supposed to be done. This is another place struck off my list. If you must come here, I suggest marking tires, oil filter, etc to indicate that something was actually done. read more

This used to be my go to location for all of my auto issues (tires, lights, etc). But, tonight they lost a customer (with 2 personal vehicles and one commercial). My wife ended up picking up a nail/screw in one of her tires. The tire was deflating fairly quickly. The AAA tow guy put air in the tire so we could get it to Pep Boys to patch it. We made it to the location around 8:35pm. The hours stated they were open until 9pm. We were told that the mechanic already put everything away so they couldn't help us. I guess being ready to leave right at 9pm is more important than helping customers. Since it was late and I thought for sure we could get it done here, this is where we came. If I knew they would turn us away (20-25mins before closing), I would have used our one shot to make it somewhere before 9 and looked elsewhere. I have been loyal to Pep Boys because of service I received at another location (another late emergency, but they shined then). Customer service is huge in my line of work. I always strive to go above and beyond to help. Maybe that's why this bothered me so much this evening. Either way, I just wanted to voice my opinion. I walked in when they were very busy just to find out how long and how much it would be to get a nail out of my tire, I knew it would be tough since I didn't have an appointment. Stephanie was helping me to set an appointment for the following day and Rudy was there to help as well and they were able to squeeze me in today since it was just a quick patch. I had defective $23 Bosch Icon wiper blades. Of course, I threw away the package as I installed them at the store. They REFUSED my return just 4 weeks later, with original receipt. The return policy on the receipt does not state that I need the original packaging; only that I need the receipt. They direct me to their "online policy". Their website does state that original packaging is required. This is deceptive! There's plenty of room on the receipt to print this important condition! I just took it to a Pep Boys in a different city and got an ENTIRELY different experience. They (the other Pep Boys) returned it for cash, AND helped me to install the Costco replacements! To show my appreciation to them (the OTHER store), I purchased a pair of RainX blades. I guess I'll only boycott this Pep Boys, not all of them. read more

The gentlemen at Pep Boys did it again :))! My poor baby VW buggie failed on me AGAIN and decided to be super low on energy (darn battery was at 0.0001%). Time line run down for battery operation: [9:12 am] - Pulled into Peps, got a friendly welcome from Gus, he chuckled at my unwillingness to turn off my engine b/c my car battery would die again.. [9:15 am] - Checked my car in at Pep Boys M.D. to get diagnosed. Gus took time to ask his manager whether or not they were able to perform surgery on my car.. because apparently the changing of the car battery might tamper with the check engine light. He then suggested I should wait for this "VW expert" who was going to come in at 10 am. He didn't want my car to be handled by anyone else because it's a serious operation. [9:18 am] - I was pretty desperate to get my battery replaced even if it took the whole day since I can't live without my car so... I agreed to wait. [9: 30 am] - Waiting outside the surgery room [9:33 am] - Got bored, wishing the Urban Outfitters at the LAB would friggen hurry up and open so I wouldn't be so bored.. [9:40 am] - Praying to God the "VW expert" dude would come in already [10:30 am] - Someone called out my name from the reception area, and voila! Got my energized and healthy car back, without the check engine light going off (Gus is 100% correct, the check engine light on VW bugs are really sensitive for some dang reason) You might be wondering why it took over an hour for an easy operation. Gus forewarned me (as well as the tow truck guy who helped jump start my car) that the battery takes over an hour to change because VW engine components/area are poorly designed and packed into such tiny/confined space. To my surprise, I got my car earlier than I expected! So bonus pts for Pep Boys. Awesome service. Satisfaction guaranteed. I paid them 1500 to replace my radiator. The tech who worked on my car - Efran ( I think thats his name) didn't plug my alternator back in after he put my car back together. I found this out when i got stranded on the freeway exit because my car shut off and wouldn't start back up. Once the tow truck picked me up i had it towed to another auto shop and thats when the technician advised me. When i called pep boys to tell them the technician acted like it was no big deal. However the manager Alex is good, he reimbursed me for the towing cost and battery replacement. So i will give him a star for fixing the problem but overall it was a bad experience. They're under staffed , unorganized and don't know what they're doing half of the time. read more

Went in and paid 45 bucks to get a complete diagnostic check done on my car. They told me I blew a head gasket and they quoted me 2000.00. I took it to a local repair shop around the corner and they said it was just a lose hose. They fixed it for 30 bucks. read more

NEVER BRING YOUR CAR HERE!! The only reason I gave these people a single star was to be able to write a review. I brought my car in two times for the exact same problem. Let's note that I bought the Jeep I brought in from a certified Jeep dealership just a few months before I brought it in to Pep Boys The 1st time, I sat for 5 hours while they ran diagnostics valued at $90 through them and charged me for 3 things to fix the problem. They handed me back broken keys , they had broken my little sister's keychain that she had given me . As soon as I drove off the lot, I noticed the warning lights back on my dashboard. I immediately called and they told me to bring the car back in. Because I had already waited for 5 hours I was pretty upset about this, but I did so anyway. Not that it did any good. All they did was literally tell me that they had fixed everything, but all these warning lights and the fact that my car temperature was stuck to see on my dashboard would all fix themselves as soon as I did what they referred to as a drive test. They said I had to drive up and down Hills very fast. Slam on my brakes hard, and then my whites would disappear and everything would be fixed. And had a hard time believing this was true, so I called back the next day to complain and found out through a different person who works there that it was all a complete lie. He then went on to tell me that the problem my car had had nothing to do with what they fixed. Meaning that they wasted a full day of mine and charged me $300 for things that didn't need to be done. Then, they had gone on to completely lied to me about it. Between the 2x it was brought in, they had my car for 3 weeks and told me I HAD to have ten different things done to it. I had to pay out of pocket for a rental and I am a nursing student so I didn't have extra money to throw around. The second time I brought my car in, I relayed what had happened the first time, so scared and worried I was that once again Pep Boys would charge me for repairs that were not needed to fix my vehicle. I stated that I just desperately wanted my vehicle to be fixed, I did not have any extra money, so if there were things such as sensors that I did not absolutely need to buy in order for my vehicle to work, I would much rather invest in those later when I have had time to save up money. Several different mechanics spoke to me and told me that this was not possible. They told me that I needed to get every single thing done that they quoted me on or else the car might once again have issues. I let them know that this was costing me a lot of money, but I was and had to pay for the rental car as well as the repair. They assured me that there was zero chance of them charging me but the car not getting fixed. They said I would not have the same bad experience, several mechanics assured me that the car would finally be fixed. read more

Horrible ! Horrible ! Went in just now for an oil change and was told it would be done at 6pm, it was 3m ! Since when does it take 3 hours to do an oil change with most the bays empty and all the techs chatting at the desk ? But that wasn't what made me mad ! I had a coupon for an oil change for $16.99 . Right on the front of the coupon in bold print it said NO HIDDEN FEES !!!! the guy writes me up and say the total will be $29.96 ! WAIT WHAT ??? I told him it says no hidden fees and he goes on to tell me that my car requires a special filter and more oil. I drive a lexus come on now. This is the worst place you can go for a car repair. I replace a battery in this Pep boys. First, instead of the Bosch battery I want to purchase, they exchanged it to their own brand and they did not tell me until I went to pick up my car. After two weeks, I went to Toyota for regular oil change and the guy at Toyota told me that the battery is died and I need a new battery. I then need to go back Pep Boys and to ask for an exchange. While dealing with their bad attitude, this time they lose my car key and took about an hour to find it. And in fact, the battery is again a bad one, I need a jump start if I don't use my car in a week. read more

Came to this pepboys to replace my car key battery, a girl named Jessica was unfortunately who I had to deal with. She was extremely rude, and acted very ghetto with attitude. No customer service skills what so ever. She was even rude to the people she worked with. She got paged to the register and walked out from where she was standing with both hands waived in the air like "what did you page me for?!" Then proceeded to ask me to move from the register. This girl needs some serious training on customer service- this industry is too competitive not to have great people skills. Won't be coming back here. read more

These guys are a sham!!! My AC went out and was going to take it to an AC shop but when I went by the shop after talking to the owner he was closed when he said he would be open. I was under a time crunch as I was going to be driving up to northern California through central California in the summer heat in 3 days, I needed my AC to work. After being flaked on by the first shop, I had no choice but to go to pep-boys as they were the only shop still open after 5pm in my area. I dropped my car off at 6pm, and they guy there told me he would have it fixed by the following morning (the day before my departure). The guy said he would call me that evening to give me an update, which he never did. I followed up with him at 9 am that following morning, and he told me that his mechanic was due in at 10am and he would call me then with a status update. At 3pm he told me that I needed a new compressor and a new hose, $700! He then told me that he did not have the parts and would not be able to fix my car in time. I was PISSED!!!! I was scheduled to leave to northern CA in less than 24 hours and I had no AC still. He then told me that I could come back after my trip and pay them the $700 to fix it. Ha! Yeah right!!! I ended up taking my car to Scott at Advanced auto care on Newport Blvd. Scott was very reassuring that he could fix my AC by noon the following day. In short, I brought my car to Scott at 4pm, he had the AC blowing super cold by 12pm the next day just in time for my trip. To make matters better, Scott fixed the AC for $230. Turns out the compressor was working fine! The guys at Pep-boys are a joke, do not waste your time or your money here. You will be disappointed!!! If there was something less than 1 star I would have used it! Pep Boys use to be our "go to" place for simple auto care. After 3 miserable experiences we will NEVER EVER "GO" HERE AGAIN! During the summer the a/c went out in my 10 year old Honda Accord. Pep Boys could fix it for $1100 (car's only worth $3K) so we said no and tried B&F Air Conditioning in Costa Mesa - they fixed it for $300 and it works perfectly. Then a few weeks ago the battery started acting up so back we "go" to have it tested - they installed a new battery and a cable. A few days later the car completely died while I was driving - lost all electrical power. Got it back to Pep Boys on a Wednesday around 1 pm. We called at 7 PM since we hadn't heard from them and they said, "Oh didn't anyone tell you that the battery guy is off today?". (Lie #1) Waited till Friday and called back again around 10 am hoping to find out what the problem was. Put on hold for 20 minutes so my husband drove over there. The first guy told us that the distributor store for the new cable we needed was CLOSED for the day.(Lie #2) So my husband went outside and called the distributor only to learn they were NOT closed. He went back inside and asked and the clerk had someone else come talk with my husband. The new guy calls the distributor and asks (1) are they open and (2) do they have the part. Yes on both counts and then hangs up. He NEVER ordered the part! My husband asks why he didn;t order it and the guy says, gee I didn't think you wanted me to! (lie #3) Are you serious! So the part gets ordered and we're told it would be a few hours. The NEXT day my husband calls and is told that the car isn;t ready and it would be several more hours. Less than 2 minutes later another guy calls and says the car is ready come pick it up. So did the first guy just not check on our car when he told us the car wasn't ready and it would be hours? (lie #4) Went to get the car and they handed us a bill for $400. for a CABLE. Seriously??? After some serious conversation with the clerk -so that other customers could hear- my husband explains all the lies, all the problems -- and finally the clerk hands him the keys and say's it's okay just go. I needed a car battery replacement. The Pep Boys website listed two BOSCH types online at $113.99 and $139.99. Naturally, I opted for the lease expensive of the two choices. During the replacement procedure, the Service Manager told that the choice I had selected was the "wrong size." I, of course, said no it's not because that is what the Pep Boys website had recommended. He said well the website made a mistake, and my Audi A4 needed the bigger size option at $139.99 in order to fit into the battery compartment. I was already waiting over an hour so I just SMH and said just do it. If they care about customer service even one iota, they would have honored the website listing price because its their own bonehead mistake. My boyfriend is a foreigner, mind you, and he had to have his power steering pump replaced in his older Jeep Grand Cherokee. He calls to change his appointment he had for the day and the person tells him he ought to come now because there was a man available right then to do the repair...they also said it will be $300.50--- So, he drops off his car (Sunday), and we get a call about an hour later saying "We don't have the part and we have to order it so it won't be here until Monday morning" Then, they kept the car over night, causing him to have to find a ride to and from school. The car was not finished until nearly 4-pm Monday afternoon. AND they gave him a total of $415.00.............!!!! I told my boyfriend not to pay for anything other than what they stated the day before. Suddenly, someone says "Oh, let me fix that." without any attempt to explain how an additional $100+ were to suddenly appear added to the bill. read more

Not my usual place for an oil change. I usually go to Oilstop, except they don't do tire rotations. I also avoid the Toyota dealership. I called and spoke with Alex. I told him i shopped here a few times for auto parts and noticed it was always busy. I needed to check nail in tire, oil change and tire rotation. I was prepared to make an appointment for the end of the week to avoid hassle. He said, "we have a window this morning, can you bring it now?" Got a break from work. So I waited for 2 hours while others were waiting as well but somebody showed up after a while for them to let them know their car is ready.I stepped out of the store and I couldn't find my car there so I came back to the store and believe me, NOBODY asked me about the reason that I was sitting!So I waited till 7 pm!! I couldn't wait any more! I finally went to the reception and guess what?! Omar's shift was ended and he wasn't in the store any more!!!The other employee checked for me and he figured that my oil change had already been done!!! He told me that it was just him at the store and It was super busy so he didn't have the chance to check on the completed services! And the one who was helping me should've called me and let me know!!!It looks like the definition of "customer service" is unknown at this place. I'm still really shocked.
