I'm not mechanically skilled, so it was good to see how they checked for puncturing. And by extension, showing that work is being done. I'm sort of leaving this as a thank you for that service, knowing I might not be able to return for awhile. His service was also provided during a tough time in my life. He always charged me a fair price which is why I respect him a lot. I've never had a BS service recommended by him. Everything is "hey, look at this" or "this is what is wrong". If you are looking for an independent mechanic H & A auto is a trustworthy place that still exists in this day and age.

Awaited for 3 hours, the service technician told me that I have (x2) worn-out camber bolts, and that I need them replaced or the rear driver-side alignment can not be performed. After viewing the service quoted, the quote was for over $1000!!!! They even spelled the word BOLT wrong as BOKT, and the 7030066 part number isn't even the correct part for my car. I searched for the exact bolts online, and the lowest I could find was $12 each, while the Firestone price was $129.99 each. I called them back, and they told me the quote was not a mistake and that it is what it costs. I took my car to a different Firestone tire and had my alignment done without ANY PROBLEM!!!!! The service technician told me the car is ready, and the before and after alignment printout was printed out for me without any questions. When I asked how my cam bolt condition is, they said there's nothing wrong with any of them. I am, never going back to this place again.

We were looking at buying an Audi Q4 e-tron that had a damage report. A reputable dealership told us it was "minor" and offered to take it to the mechanic for our peace of mind. I had already done my due diligence and familiarized myself with the vehicle and potential issues. I asked Arnold very specific, technical questions that I already knew the answers to. My local mechanic told me my motor is toast and needs the motor rebuilt which will cost minimum $4500! So I decided to call Mesa Wesr again and talked to the owner Norm and told him about the issue with my motor. He was very friendly and scheduled a service for my bus so they can diagnose the problem. After being in his garage a few days he called me and told me all I needed was for the heads to be retorqued, valves adjusted and carburetor cleaned and my motor is good to go. My total cost was less than $500 and bus never drove so smoothly and powerful! I can't say enough about this honest shop and their entire crew who are all very friendly and very knowledgeable. I don't write reviews but felt compelled to share my experience this time. Thanks Norm and your entire staff! The wait and drive to your shop is well worth it. I had to call Corporate and file a formal complaint against this store in order to get anywhere with them. Here's my story from the beginning.. I needed a set of brand new tires and decided on this Pep Boys because I work at the Lab and they're next door so it was convenient. I shelled out over $600 to get the new set and everything went smoothly. I also purchased the highest warranty available for the tires. A few months later, I apparently ran over something small and my car's tire pressure light came on immediately and sure enough, that evening I got off work and went to my car to find a flat tire. AAA came and switched it out and I took my car over to Pep Boys the morning after and asked them to patch up the flat tire, since I had a warranty. The guys there said that they would do it for me, free of charge, and it would be done by the time I got off of work. When I went to pick up my car, once I turned it on I noticed that the tire pressure light was still on, but I assumed that they did in fact do their job and just drove off the lot and went on with my day. Sure enough, the next night, my tire was flat again. I was mad at this point becuase I was leaving town right then for the weekend and that flat tire completely screwed up my departure time. I left town and called Pep Boys the morning after and asked to speak to the manager. Right off the bat, the manager clearly wanted nothing to do with me. I tried to explain to him my situation, that I gave them a flat tire that they were required to fix under warranty, they told me they would fix it, and they clearly didn't do their job, and the manager tried on multiple occasions to blame it on the fact that I got the flat tire in the first place, so it was my fault. He clearly didn't understand that it didn't matter if my tire was flat, under the warranty I purchased with them, they were required to fix it. I spent close to 20 minutes arguing with him until finally he agreed to send out a tow truck to my apartment when I came back from my trip to change out my tire for me, tow it back to their Pep Boys, and they would fix the tire. When I came back, the tow truck came and switched out my tire like promised, and after explaining my situation to the tow truck guy, as he took off my tire, he rolled it around, showed me the patch and says "No s--t the tire deflated again.. they put a terrible patch on the tire in the first place. That's why your tire pressure light never went away.. it was never fixed the first time around". Armed with this new knowledge, when I arrived at Pep Boys this time, I told this to the manager... Once I mentioned this information, I think the manager realized I actually had somewhat of an idea of what's going on and instantly stopped blaming me and promised he would patch up the tire CORRECTLY by the end of the day. I went to work and came back on my last break to check up on my car only to find out that they hadn't completed the job 7 hours later, and the guy who I spoke with had the guts to look through his paperwork and ask me "What were we doing again with your car? What tire was it again?" If that's not a red flag, I don't know what is!! I finally come to pick up my car only to be told that since they didn't patch it up correctly the first time and I drove off the lot with a bad tire, I actually ruined my tire completely at that point, they couldn't patch it up, and that I would need a brand new tire, and that they WOULDN'T cover it.. even though it got ruined because of their bad job in the first place! At that point, I told him to give me my keys back and I didn't want to deal with them anymore. The next morning, I call Corporate and file a complaint telling them the whole situation, becuase there was no way I was going to spend over $150 on a new tire when THEY were the ones that messed up.. sure enough, I get a call back almost instantly from the manager, apologizing for the whole situation, FINALLY admitting that I was right and they were wrong, and he offered to give me a new tire, free of charge. I went back to them, got my free tire, and closed my complaint with Corporate when they called back a few days later. Moral of the story? If you just so happen to have to go to this location, and they just so happen to screw you over like they did to me, call Corporate on them immediately. Apparently that gets the job done! read more

I absolutely recommend this place if you want to get angry, waste your time and money, deal with an absurd system, and risk your own or your child's safety by picking up a "repaired" car that breaks down on the road minutes later. Otherwise--stay away. I regret not checking reviews before bringing my daughter's car here. On September 14, I dropped it off because it was losing power and stalling while she was driving. I even provided my warranty company's contact info. A few days later, Pep Boys told me they couldn't repair the car because the warranty company hadn't approved the claim. When I called the warranty company, they told me Pep Boys had submitted the wrong estimate. When I asked Pep Boys to resubmit an estimate with only the covered items, they got annoyed and told me they were done dealing with the warranty company and wouldn't waste more time. After days of back-and-forth calls, on September 21, I was told the car was "ready to pick up." But when I arrived, instead of paying the $170 balance I was expecting, I was told to pay the full amount. The staff said there were no records in their system--not in the computer, not on paper--and that only their boss knew the details. At a national chain, this is beyond ridiculous. After finally contacting the boss, they said the warranty hadn't paid yet, so I couldn't take the car, even though I had confirmation by phone and text that the car was ready. The worst part came after that. Today, my daughter picked up the car, and on her way back to school, the SAME problem happened again. The car stalled in the middle of the road within minutes of leaving Pep Boys. When I called, they admitted that a "special technician" hadn't fully fixed the issue--but they still released the car as "ready." I wasted over $700, countless hours, and most importantly, put my daughter's safety at risk because of Pep Boys' negligence, disorganization, and total lack of accountability. DO NOT bring your car here. I will be filing a formal complaint with Pep Boys corporate about this location. read more

I am really not a fan of being lied to even if in this case was just an oil change. I came in with a coupon for standard oil change $19.99 straight off the pepboys website with an appointment for 9:30am. After 3 hours I got the call they have finally finished. So I went to pay with the coupon which they rang up as $24.19 which is not a big jump but also not what the service was suppose to cost so I asked why it was more. I was told maybe it was a more expensive oil filter, I checked it was just a standard Purolater oil filter. Then some else jumped in and said it some cars need more quarts of oil. I rechecked what I already knew was standard 4 quarts. Already weary about their lack of integrity here I pointed to the part that said it included tire rotation. I was told that my tires didn't have enough tread which was complete bullshit--the car only has 23000 miles and I did do a visual check when I got back to my vehicle just to make sure nothing unusual was up--they were fine, definitely showed the expected wear and that it really needed to be rotated. I wasn't going to wait another several hours on protest so I just left and marked it up to never return again. A simple task and they lied to me through the teeth multiple times. read more

Hi, this is Keith, this place is amazing. I have been coming here for 5 years now. Amanda, Joel, Jesus, George there all amazing. You want total honesty, be treated like a member of their family, go here. Honestly, you wont be sorry. I cant tell you how many times they would call me and tell me no charge because it turned out nothing was necessary when other places would say differerent. I recently went in their because my car was smoking, at first glance looked like a steering mechanism problem for around $850 dollars however, after careful review of the car, I received a call and the call was amazing. Amanda called and said "NO CHARGE" simple oil leaking because the oil dip stick was not in the proper place. How amazing is that. I cant tell you how many times everyone saved me thousands of dollars. This place is great and I hope everyone supports this place and goes there. They deserve to succeed. I went to another pep boys to get my oil change and they notified me that who ever did my last oil change did not put a gasket on the plug which resulted with oil leaking. And not only that they tighten it too hard that my threading got messed up! So I had to end up paying way more than what I expected for an oil change. I called the manager and asked him to reimburse me for their wrong doing. He said he won't since it's due to the car's wear and tear! No it's not wear and tear! It's due to a human error and even the mechanic who fixed my oil pan said it was a human error! No way can wear and tear mess up my thread that bad! You showed that there's negligence already by not putting a gasket on my bolt so what makes me think that there's no negligence at all in this shop? Seriously. I could've died or the car get caught on fire! They have too many people coming in for service and their motto is to get in and get out even if they have to neglects people's car. 0 Stars Part 3: Just got off the phone with the district manager, then claims department. They have no intention to pay for the out of pocket expenses I incurred by them doing work on my car and the car burning up in a fire within 1.1 miles of leaving the store. This shop has internal issues do not take your car to this location I strongly warn you. They had an independent fire adjuster who told me that most likely the car would yield a inconclusive report. Now the claims department is telling me that they stated I had a fan problem. This is bull shit my car had been maintained and I had all the receipts to prove it. I had never ever had a problem with my car until I went to Pep Boys. I also had an incident with them in December that they tried to blame on me. All I can say is read the reviews through yelp this is my part 3. I will continue to complain, I will file a small claim case I will not stop. Please do not trust this shop. Honest & Fair!!! Noone bothers to put out good reviews, only bad ones when they feel the need to complain.....Well, here's a welcome change!! I had just gotten my brakes done elsewhere when I was shown my shredding Michelin on the front driver's side....new tire desperately needed....Shopped around & PEP boys had the best deal in town for my rather empty wallet! Got it inspected and was shown my other front Michelin tire....on the verge of cracking bigtime! BUT, only so much $$$$ to go around. Well, that didn't seem to be a problem -- Shaun got me a great desl on 2 tires, gave me an even better deal on the balancing, installation & rotation, and I was out the door with $1 left in my wallet, happily driving with 2 new tires when my expectation was barely affording one tire!!! I don't know where to start. I don't know if this is a joke or for real. I hate writing negative reviews for a business. I dropped my car off last week and have been calling 20 times since yesterday with no-one picking up the phone. Finally had to stop by the location. I called another 4 times while I am waiting in line and see guys are taking lunch talking to each other and no one bothered to pickup the phone. When I asked I need to talk to the manager my answer was we don't have a manager and you can call 1800- pep boys My car was there for one week and he told me no one has looked at the car yet and again you have complain call the 1800-pep boys with no contact name to just make you to runaround. I spend over $1500 on the car 2 weeks ago and after pickup having the same problem. If you guys can't Handel your business with so many locations should start closing stores and start working on your service and customers. read more

Okay I dont know why this Pep Boys has low reviews but they are actually really good and I am impressed. There's two pep boy locations in Costa Mesa, and I'm pretty dumb and I created an appointment at the other pep boys. When I walked in, they obviously couldn't find me in the system because I had came to the wrong location, but they were accommodating and were able to fit me in. I needed a new battery, possible oil change, and tire rotation and they said that they would be happy to check all of that for me. They said since I was a walk-in, it would take around 3 hours. To me, that's like the average time i would wait at the Toyota service, so i was okay with it. This pep boys is literally right next to the anti-lab, so I was heavily entertained for the 3 hours i had to wait. The price was decent, i expected to pay a hefty price for a new battery but they convinced me on getting warranty on it. I would recommend! read more

I brought my classic chevy pickup truck in to fix the typical leaks in the transmission pan, rear differential and then to do some brake work. Alex in service did a great job of explaining the costs upfront, recommending options and he was very knowledgeable. it turned out that the brake work was more complicated than I thought and Robert the service manager personally went above and beyond to work with his Pep Boys team to get a custom brake booster and master cylinder to make sure my vehicle was mechanically correct and safe. These guys were awesome and I give them my highest rating for professionalism, communication and technical competence. The worst automotive establishment i've ever been to, they overcharged me for simple inspections and labor. They replaced my power steering pump called me during and said the right axle needed replacing too, however when they removed the power steering belt and reapplied the tension when re attaching it they tore the belt, brought it back days later and they said that it wasnt their fault they didnt even touch the belt!!! you have to take it off to replace the pump!! they charged me 630 dollars to say that they would charge me "half off" to finish the job the said at half off the rest of the repair would cost over 140... i got it done around the corner for 110 without a bullshit half off... dont ever go to this pepboys read more

Excellent service : Amanda the service manager handled the issue very professionally . I had been a regular with bakes jobs . Tires or oil/filter routine stuff . This time my Z4 stated running very rough . Called and spoke with Amanda ... Asked me to bring it right in . Mechanic diagnosed the problem to a faulty spark Coil . Luckily they had a stock replacement ... In/out of there 45 mins .. And made it back to LA as I was in a time crunch . I was treated very well and they understood my dilema and worked around it . I saw my battery light was on, so I went over to Pep Boys and asked about it. Phillip immediately said it's 99% sure its your Alternator. He told me he can work on it as soon as he gets back from lunch, that it would take an hour to fix. I needed it done. Free Wifi.. Ok.. I'll wait. Dropped it off at 1:30pm and they started working on it at 2:30pm. I got my car back at 4pm. Sure enough it was the Alternator. They were all so friendly. I started looking online for other places to get it done. Pep Boys had the same price with other places. The guys all there were so nice to me there, George, Rudy, Daniel and Steve! I had a great experience with Pep Boys. I was checked in by Thomas and he was awesome !! The entire team was professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable. My alternator was broken and also needed new belts. They explained everything clearly, gave me a fair price, and didn't try to push any unnecessary services. Be careful here. I always went here for brakes and took their word on what I needed. Last year I knew I needed front brakes and took my truck in. They called me and told me I needed new brakes and rotors on the front. When I agreed, they told me I needed the samd on the back. With the price being so high, I decided to do it myself. Only one rotor on the front was bad, and I had more than 50% left on the back and the rotors were fine. I still go here for parts, but will NEVER trust them for service. read more

I was driving thru this area and needed to get my tires rotated. Why oh why did I choose to get my car serviced here? Still asking myself that question everyday. Customer service was horrible and I had to wait at the front desk even though there was maybe one hour being worked on. It was a Tuesday around noon time. Waited way too long, but at least they got the job done. If it's parts for my car, sure i'll give this place a look. But if it's to get my car serviced, i'm going elsewhere. read more

A few weeks ago I had an overheating problem with my Lexus after midnight and the tow truck driver said Pep Boy's was the closest repair shop, so we had it towed there. They were closed so the key was left in the drop box. Within two hours of opening, they had found the problem with my car and did the necessary repairs. Terrible customer service... I made an appointment two days before for an oil change at 1:30. I came in at 1:15 today and was told the couldn't even see me till 3 regardless of my appointment. I've always made appointments at Midas and they see you when they say they will. The guy didn't seem to care either he was the worst part. I had an oil change and two battery changes on my MB's over the past month and am 100% satisfied with the quality, timeliness and price. Only a few months ago, I was so frustrated with the slow service and cost, that I decided that I would never return. A friend recommended this shop, and later regretted it -- but I took the recommendation and now I regret it every time I go there. Today Kevin was the one who helped me. Nothing against him personally -- he's a new kid just following orders. The real problem is whoever gives those orders. Or is it company policy? The fact is he refused to rotate the tires because, according to him, the tire was "bald." I explained that he was probably mistaken, since the wear indicators showed exactly the opposite of what he was saying. When he was confronted and saw his argument fall apart, he switched to another excuse: that the tire was old (2022) and already had 4 years of use. I explained again that this is normal -- tires do not expire, there is no legal expiration date, and manufacturers recommend visual inspection annually after 6 years or if there are cracks on the sidewalls, and replacement after 10 years. Once again Kevin had no response. Instead of calling someone more experienced to help him or a supervisor to deal with the customer, he finally said the tire was too worn on the tread and that for that reason he couldn't rotate the tires -- only do the alignment that's already scheduled for Sunday. I only go there (and keep going) because I already paid for the service on both cars. But when I sell them, I will NEVER go back, and I strongly recommend you don't go either. Note: I wish no harm to Kevin or the store. But these policies of trying to force the sale of new tires just because the current ones are "old" are bad even for the environment. Tires should be replaced when they reach the wear indicators -- that's what they're there for. Not when the store owner or Kevin's manager orders him to push the sale. Stay away from these Firestone stores.

The wear was so bad that it created a serious safety concern and could have resulted in a tire failure or blowout while I was driving on the freeway. Because of that experience, during my most recent service I specifically asked the technician to check whether my tires were wearing on the inner edges. I was shocked when he told me that he doesn't do that. Afterward, I looked into Valvoline's policy and learned that tire inspections are not part of their service. I understand that now, but I think customers should be made aware of this especially when having their tires rotated. I had assumed that if a technician was removing and rotating my tires and noticed severe or potentially dangerous wear, they would bring it to my attention. If you need anything done involving your tires, I would NOT recommend coming here. Take your vehicle somewhere that actually inspects the condition and wear of your tires. Tires are a critical safety component, and severe inner edge wear can be difficult for the average driver to see. This is a huge safety concern for me. My tires were worn badly enough on the inside that I could have experienced a tire failure on the freeway, yet I left my previous service without anyone warning me. Customers should know that having their tires rotated at Valvoline does not necessarily mean their tires are being inspected for dangerous wear.

The area has walkable restaraunts/grocery stores, kind of near the road. An oil change estimated around 2.5hrs and the coolant+brakes added another like 2.5 hrs. Went in at 9 and picked up notification at like 2:30PM (wasn't waiting there). No shuttle today (maybe only drop off no pick up), but timely texting. The coffee is pretty good, limited seats inside, solid air conditioning, EXTREMELY CLEAN. They gave me quotes no problem on things I needed to fix and space to do my own research. I appreciate they didn't try to take advantage of a girl/was approachable. There was a google review thingie and coupons for $10 off. Maybe a bit of upsell on the coolant, but i figured my car needed the service once in a while for all the life its had. They suggest a liittle more serious things than I have experienced in the past like shocks/control arms. But overall anything they suggested for immediate repair totaled to a little under $1000 - decent// i did not do everything. I think the tire deals are cheaper than costco (and has some sort of repair warranty), the coolant they use is not the manufacturer brand (a common third party blend, long life), and they offer full synthetic and synthetic blend oil. I came in for an oil change deal ( tip: you can get a coupon if you sign up for the rewards on the chain website too). They also honored super transparently - no price upcharges (basic sedan) besides a bit of tax), the appointment was super easy with a form, email confirmation from the scheduler, coming in at the time- line moved fast. It was a really good deal and I appreciate the nonaggressive sales pitching. Everything was in terms of best interest maintenance. It can be a bit pricy in some things (probably a great deal on tires though), but its probably to the cost of the living area/economy situation of parts. I replaced my rear brake pads and it fixed the squeaking. Overall, I felt like it was a clean earnest location and I was happy to receive the quotes/have an informed choice. Always good to have an idea of what you come here for :). I would come here again, but I guess I do have to see how the quality holds up as I'm not a car person. I'd recommend dropping your car off and walking to the other plazas to try some nice food like crack shack/back bay area walk (if you're motivated to walk that far). Bring a hat as not much shade in the area. They're hiring too!
