Tbh the worst experience(s) yes with a (s) . I hold myself accountable for even deciding to give them another chance but I did . I originally brought tires & received an oil change and had my brakes done with a warranty, the first time. After receiving my car back it smelt like oil all inside of my car , the heat and AC smelled the same . Took almost a week to get the smell out. Over the period of time I've notice my car start to have issues. Seemed Iike somehow I'm ending up back because I'm having issues with my car. I recently came to pepboys to get my brakes done again with warranty , along with an oil change and tire rotation.. The manager come to me and says we can't put the brakes on because you need new rotors. Are you sure you want to put the brakes on it might mess up your car. I tell him I'll get the rotors the next time just put the brakes on . He goes back & fourth with me for almost 10-15 minutes about how I should really get the rotors. At this point I'm confused on who the customer is & WHAT I WANT , not what you want to do or feel is right . That really pissed me off because I'm paying the damn money and it's MY CAR !!!!! He then refused to do my brakes and then claimed he couldn't find my number in the system claiming I've never received service from pep boys . Then magically finds the number. After 20-25min of back & fourth . I find out they never even started the oil change or did a tire rotation. They just have my car in the Air with damn near zero customers in the shop. The interaction was so tense that I had to speak with a different service rep . While he stayed off to the side to discuss the incident with his mechanic buddy. I waited in the cashier area for them to finish my car which took another 45min . I see the guys come in with the slip and my keys in it and place it in from of register. These two guys answered phone calls & serviced customers who walked in & after 10min the manager asked the service rep did he service me & he goes " oooh I didn't know these where his " it's was the worst experience ever ! So now fast forward guess I'm a man of chances I go back there & I feel one of the reasons is because I have the pepboys card . I needed a battery for my car and get it installed that turned into me being told all these different issues was wrong with my car. They couldn't put a battery in because I needed a alternator first & all these other things. Ended up paying $1200 for a refurbished alternator when I offered to just buy a new one and have them install it . Of course they declined . Long story short they ran my car so long in the shop that it shut off in front and I didn't even make it to advance auto to just buy the battery there that they refused to put in without doing the other work first . Like I said they always find a way to keep you coming back just to take your money and create issues . My car is out of a dealership I brought it with 35k miles and maintained it since . Never had issues internally with my engine or anything. Since I've been coming to this company I've been seeing error codes I've never seen before on my car . They did a change and pulled some type of material or left something behind my engine . I don't understand how your able to drop something behind the engine for an oil change ? I ended up finding a personal mechanic who did my brakes in front of me and explained what bad rotors look like and to find out my rotors where fine and intact . Showed me how I've been getting ripped off for almost a year estimated $2500 spent is simply ridiculous. I will never be back . The manager is really the worst ! Just because you know about cares and can fix them. Doesn't mean you have great customer service skills or sales skills . I notice the constant change in management. I purchased a battery from Pep Boys 4 months ago, and I had to return there this week, because the battery stopped working. Turns out the housing part was corroded, the battery was fine. Ed was very kind and helpful: he not only replaced the battery anyway, but also fixed the small housing part for free within a short time. This is a warning . Decided to get all brake pads done on my 2009 chevy traverse. Got several quotes. Guess what these clowns quoted for just replacing brake pads. Wait for it............... 900 dollars. The guys name there is jason. It's not surprising pep boys has low rating. Pep boys had to settle a class action suit for selling unnecessary services plus not putting parts on charged for. I got the work done at a local shop where I could watch for 300. Oh and Jason is calling me a liar because I did not post a picture of the quote. Well Jason like most people I got several quotes OVER THE PHONE. Pep boys must be desperate if they are keeping you. After moving to the area in 2011, I became a loyal customer of PepBoys for several years. I had some work done on my vehicle's coolant system one day and a week later, the engine light comes on along with an undeniable smell of antifreeze. Brought the car in and was informed I'd have to pay a diagnostic fee of $99 to read the engine light codes. Hours later, received a call and was told of the specific codes that were read and all of the problems and work that would need to be done to fix everything. Was quoted a total price of $1800 including parts and labor. Since the price seemed so high, I decided to get a second opinion and went to another mechanic who was recommended by a friend. I explained about the engine light and odor of antifreeze. Within minutes after looking at my car, I was asked if there was any recent work done on the vehicle. I said "Yes, brought it into PepBoys last week and spent $500. Had some work done on the coolant system." The second mechanic informed me that whoever did the work, failed to properly secure a clamp to a hose and it came loose, causing the leak, the odor, and the engine light to come on. It didn't take him long to fix the clamp, refill the coolant, and get the engine light off. I saved over $1700 and haven't had any issues with any of the things that PepBoys said I needed to repair. Engine light has not come on again since. I was a loyal customer to this location for years, and even tipped the mechanics regularly. One time, I even bought lunch for the guys ( couple of pizzas and sodas). And what thanks do I get for my loyalty and generosity? A rip-off attempt. Thanks for nothing PepBoys. I went on google to check if I can find it cheaper at another store. First store that pops up is pep boys on the website it's $186.99 but they are having a sale 25% off for $140.24. Came in to have my battery tested and they said they couldn't test the battery because it wasn't in the car. (They were trying to force an overpriced tow.) I asked them to then do a warranty exchange because I had just bought an interstate battery there 5 months prior. They then tried to convince me I didn't buy the battery from them. Then they tell me oh that was a different store and they went out of business. It says PEPBOYS real big across the entire building so I was confused by that. So I bought a battery out of desperation but kept my core to test myself. Come find out my battery was fine and I didn't need theirs. I go to return the battery and they said that's a used battery. No, this is the "premium" battery you sold me for $220 2 days ago. After arguing with their manager perry he says OK we will return it but you need to have your receipt. I guess the phony work order they created for my battery wasn't enough. I didn't have the receipt so he refused my return. I called customer service to have them give me a receipt. They emailed it no problem and apologized for the terrible service from their manager Perry. I went to return it again and he's now saying I'm trying to return another battery. This guy is a criminal and should not be in any type of service job. Worst experience i recommend avoiding this place at all costs! read more

It's a shame because I am not someone to leave a negative review I have been a manager in customer service for over 30 yrs but this is extremely concerning. A year ago I was compelled to write a review to warn others of the dishonesty that occurs in this company and the money that is being taken from hardworking individuals trying to have their cars repaired. Unfortunately my daughter trusted them and went back to have service done again. Her 2017 Honda Civic with 60000 miles did not start and was towed to pep boys by AAA. They told her she needed a new alternator and battery and it would be $900. After speaking with her uncle in FL who is a mechanic he expressed his concerns saying alternators don't usually go that early especially in those cars for her to request the old one to keep if she insists on getting it fixed. I did reach out and they said ok but they would have to charge me for the old part as well since they lose the opportunity to rebuild that old part. I called Honda and they expressed their concern that the alternator would actually go that soon. So I called back told them just to replace the battery and I will come pick it up. They said ok but now they can't offer any kind of warranty on the battery since I wouldn't be getting an alternator. My daughter picked up her car to drive it across the street to Honda for inspection and now all her emergency lights were on in the vehicle which they weren't before. Long story short Honda fixed it all they never reset anything or drove the car for a mile or two after putting in the new battery. AND OF COURSE THE ALTERNATOR WAS PERFECTLY FINE! No charge and Honda. Hard lesson learned for my daughter but twice they tried to rip her off a young college girl. It is disgusting. Please do not waste your money. read more

On Saturday I bought Black&Decker car polisher buffer it's a electronic device, and apparently it didn't work for me. When using this product it got over Heated short time and smoke came out. So I decided to go return it and in the receipt no where it says I will only only get a store credit. When I asked for Manger gentlemen name Dave Walter call himself as assistant store manager who has no..... experience or temperament to be a Manager, then he goes on he is doing me a favor ... I asked him show me the policy where it says I can't return damage product then the manager told me again he doesn't have have its some where. I read the policy this is what says Products Which We Do Not Accept for Return Performance accessories, electrical items, mobile electronics and tire chains cannot be returned if they have been installed Test equipment, specialty tools and Traxxas cars cannot be returned if they have been used and/or the packaging has been opened or damaged Clearance merchandise Motorized transportation and generators can be returned if returns of those items are authorized by the manufacturers of those products. If u look at the last paragraph it says "returned if they have been installed" mine is not installed it's happened to be electronics. THE WORST! Husband took his car in because it was overheating on a Friday. Car was not ready until Sunday. The car actually is worse now then before repairs of over $950. Now today, 2 days after the repairs the car isn't starting or working! I called them and each day I'm told to call back and speak to a different service manager. They say bring it over for them to look at. For what? They had the vehicle for 3 days and made the car not drivable. Plus I'm not sure how I would get a car over to them since it won't start! I'm serious when I say the car performed better before service there. Before it was just overheating, now $950 later after repairs the car was stalling and had hesitation when driving, smelled like exhaust fumes and today will not start. I replaced all my tires four days ago with Pep Boys. When I bought the tires, I was offered no warranty and was not told that that was an option for me. Today I went to drive to work and one of the tires was deflated. I called Pep Boys and the guy who answered was no help at all. I asked if there was a warranty on the tires because I purchased them four days ago and he just laughed and asked me if I purchased the warranty. The guy at the desk never even told me there was one. I look at the back of my service record and it shows that there is a 90 day warranty on tires but the man on the phone told me I have to purchase it separately and that either way it was probably my fault for the deflated tire so I would have to purchase a new tire. I was not happy that I was being laughed at just by asking if there was a warranty. This isn't even the first time that my problem was treated like shit. A couple months ago one of the mechanics told my boyfriend while I was standing behind him that girls shouldn't be allowed to drive because they cause car issues. I scheduled the installation of a trailer hitch on our 2018 Buick Enclave SUV. The hitch was not available through Pep Boys so I ordered a Curt Hitch online together with a wiring harness. When I called to verify the hitch was installed, Pep Boys advised me that the wiring could not be completed because they stated there was no vehicle harness for the Dual Connector that I provided to connect to my vehicle. I was surprised since the Buick dealer advised me that GM puts the harness on the driver's side near the rear bumper wrapped in plastic. Pep Boys stated its technician looked for the vehicle's harness but it was not there. Then, I was told there was a missing decorative cover that is removed when a different hitch is installed which remains hidden. The Curt Hitch I ordered was the hitch that goes below the bumper and is always exposed and not hidden behind a trim plate. I explained when I dropped my vehicle the cover was clearly attached and no one removed it from my new vehicle because there was no reason for me to remove it. I asked to speak to the Service Manager and requested he save the camera feeds from the security cameras that may show this trim plate was on my vehicle when it was dropped off for service. The manager explained it did not matter anyway because Pep Boys refuses to accept responsibility for vehicles damaged in its parking lot. I explained that it was Pep Boys responsibility since my vehicle was in its possession and should have been properly secured overnight even if that required moving my vehicle into one of its empty service bays.I was not convinced the trim piece was missing by theft and I believed that the technician may have removed that trim plate when installing the hitch since many hitch installations require that trim plate removed. I believed that the tech when removing the trim piece may have damaged the trim plate and then discarded it to avoid reporting the damage to my Buick. The Technician stated to the service manager that the trim piece was already missing and he never touched it. Honestly, I do not believe some random crime occurred and that trim piece was stolen when my vehicle was parked at Pep Boys overnight. I believe the technician by err damaged the trim piece and dishonestly tried to cover his tracks by playing dumb. Then, my wife called and spoke to the Service Manager and he explained to my wife that he ordered a replacement trim part and Pep Boys would cover the cost. It has been several weeks since the hitch installation and no one from Pep Boys has called to advice my wife and I that the trim part was in. Then, because the wiring that was never completed. I contacted another trailer hitch company and they said the wiring is quite easy and would take about an hour or so including installing both the round plug and flat 4 prong plug. Therefore, my wife and I rented another car from Enterprise at a cost exceeding $100 per day and dropped off our Buick at a different hitch installer to have the wiring done. The hitch installer dealer stated the Buick's wiring was there to connect to and an adapter was also required that I had not purchased. Finally, I had to waste an additional $120 on a rental car together with spending $200.00 because Pep Boys failed to wire my car for a trailer complaining that it could not be done. It is most troubling to have a vehicle that is new, brought in for service that suffers damage and the shop is dishonest about how it happened and initially telling me to go fly a kite. However, the Service Manager explaining to my wife that he ordered the part and never hearing from Pep Boys, is allowing me to conclude this is another bald face lie. The location I went to is in Egg Harbor Township on Tilton Road and I provide this honest review to advise other consumers of my horrible very costly experience grounded upon fraud and dishonest Linda C. read more

Not all Pep Boys are alike I frequent Pep Boys in Philly quite a bit-- although less so lately because Pep Boys pays their mechanics a percentage of your bill-- and that too often means your mechanic has a vested interested in building up your bill. This Pep Boys is among the worst I've come across. They nickle and dime you to death. If you need a tire, the mechanic claims you need 10 tires... God forbid you should buy a bulb, they refuse to install it like they always used to without charge. They claim this is true of all Pep Boys but I know in Philly it ain't so No wonder when you are stuck and must use THIS store, the bays are empty... The service here is seriously lacking. I try to avoid chain shops like pep boys because they try to up sell you on everything. I had ordered tires on their website and figured I'd just have them do the install/balance and an alignment while I was there. That was a big mistake, the tires were so out of balance I couldn't drive on the highway. I ended up taking my car to my local independent shop to correct the problem. They also called me shortly after I dropped my car off to try and sell me new brake pads and rotors which the car did not need. read more

Got on the expressway after work and all of a sudden there's this God-awful, ear-shattering, grinding sound that was so loud I almost crashed into the car in the outward lane trying to pull over fearing I would lose control of my vehicle. Peak under my car and there's a huge plate hanging off the bottom, dragging across the concrete. Slowly made my way back to Pep Boys and the same mechanic from earlier in the day took care of it. Turns out he forgot to rebolt something, and the missing piece was still sitting on his workstation. I missed a dinner meeting and had to pay tolls to get it back to the shop. Everything on the driver side was bent and when they quoted how much it would be to fix my car (that I bought for $3,200 with no issues) that it would be $4,500 to fix it. I looked at stupid ass like he had 3 heads. Wanting me to pay more for a car that is 16 years old Ans has very cheap parts (Scion tC) I told them in nice words to go fuck themselves. The paper had charges that I didn't ask for, not needed. (They added an oil change on there and I get my oil changed at jiffy lube because I know the guy working there) they are rip offs, ignorant, stupid fuckers with no common sense. I got my car fixed for $650!!! They TRIED to rip off the wrong female. I know cars very well so you can't pull the wool over my eyes. Don't ever do business with these little penis having crooks. I was just charged $28.00 for a headlight bulb and they can't even determine if that is really the problem because the headlight still doesn't work. Apparently they should have had to do an "electrical diagnostic" ($40) to determine the issue and the guy that does that was either busy or may have left for the day, they weren't sure. I should have just told them to put my old bulb back in, I'm sure they would have nailed me for labor anyway. I would have rather just donated $28 to charity not Pep Boys. Never again! read more

Went here to purchase a wiper motor assembly for my F350. Even before I went in that day, I knew it was the wiper motor because of the noise it made when I turned the switch. The guy at the front said that he would only repair it if he knew what it was first after I told him twice that it was the wiper motor. On top of that he wanted to charge me 50 dollars just to look at it! Bottom line is don't go here because you'll just be ripped off by a group of bumpkins who think they are mechanics. read more
