ive been coming here for nearly a year and never once had a positive experience. The manager or whomever he is has always been rude. I've been scolded multiple times for making appointments online, not knowing when emissions were done, for wanting to use benefits from my warranty. not sure if he is just miserable and hates his job but never been kind or polite. Zero stars. Maybe would have been higher if they'd actually kept our appointment. Two days ago, I made an online appointment for this afternoon, Saturday 11/15, to get my front shocks and struts looked at and probably replaced. Showed up early. Elizabeth at the desk asked me why I was there. Told her I might need my front shocks and struts replaced. She stared at me. Told her my name, my appointment time, etc. She asked if I made the appointment online. Told her yes, as pretty much all appointments these days have to be made online. I don't like it either, would much rather talk to a real person, but here we are. Elizabeth told me flatly that I shouldn't have done that (how was I to know?) because that store doesn't talk to the website (the website where I made the appointment). She told me I should have called to confirm. Told her I had received confirmation via text and email. She kind of snort-chuckled, looked at me like I was a thumping moron, and said that those confirmations were just AI telling me what I wanted to hear, and I should always call, because they can't just take customers who randomly show up and expect immediate service. Told her I didn't "just show up," I was keeping an appointment. And I had showed up 10 minutes early, so as not to inconvenience the staff. And that was it. No "Sorry for the inconvenience." No "Sorry for wasting your time." No "We've dealt with this in the past and will look into how we can prevent this in the future." No nothing. Except maybe derision and condescension on Elizabeth's part. So, yeah, go elsewhere, there are plenty of better places. And always read reviews before hand. read more

Not sure what the point of making an appointment is. Made an appointment for my car to be looked at under warranty from Carvana. Spoke to the manager on the phone the day I made the appointment, told him everything that was wrong, the vin, mileage, etc. When I went to the appointment, I had to repeat everything aside from the vin. I was told we then had to leave the car there, despite having an appointment at noon. I ended up having to order an uber home. Drove by later that night, and the car hadn't even left the spot I parked it in. Don't have people make appointments if you're not planning to do any of the work at the appointment. After five days, we finally got the car back. The problem isn't fixed and the car is still exhibiting the exact same problem. I had to hound the shop daily for updates about what was going on. Despite being told they would call me, they never would. When I went to pickup, I wasn't told anything about what was done to the car or how they verified the problem was resolved, which they clearly didn't check since it's still exhibiting the exact same problem. I received no paperwork or documentation at pickup either. read more

8:30 am appointment today for 4 new tires. At 9:45 I asked "how much longer" - they knew I was waiting. Answer "waiting to assign a tech" They took walk-in's while I waited. I stated I had to leave by 10:15 for a 10:30 appointment; manager handed the keys are said to leave. I chose this location as I had only had good experiences in the past. Never again! Guy behind the counter was rude and told me to yell at the manager ; I said "I don't want to yell at anyone - I had an 8:30 appointment and just want my tires done" Anyway - called PepBoys 1-800 number; guy was rude and said "I can't refund you because you scheduled on-line - go cancel the order on-line" One can't cancel orders on-line. Pep boys are the biggest rip off on the market, I had all my own parts and I needed to have the wiring for 2 02 sensors done and my catyletic converter changed. To cut 4 bolts and undo 2 clamp an to wire 2 02 converters they quoted me $2,000 dollars for 2-3 hours work... I told them they are out of their mind and to forget it. I can see if you look elderly and didn't have a clue that they would rip you off.. Stay away from that place. Seriously . I had all my own parts and if you added the cost of the parts it would have cost me $3,000 dollars to change a converter. I'm telling you avoid that place. That's my review. read more

I've been 27 years in the automotive industry and now im retired but due to my disabilities I chose to have Pepboys service my car. 5 star rating across the board. I've been employed by dealerships for almost 3 decades and Pepboys do exactly what they tell you. No up-sale, no hassle and no scams. Integrity is exactly what it is. I only trust Groton Pepboys for my car and I recommend this shop for everyone else. The only sad thing about about this shop is that the computers and software is outdated and makes communication difficult for staff to customer difficult at times. I can see by experience that they are doing the best thay can with what they have. The app for customers to see if their car is in the shop to when its done doesn't work and its not their fault, its cheap corporate cutbacks. Hopefully corporate will read this review and upgrade the system because its costing them lots of money. Communication is key. No communication, no customers. Arrived at 9:30 am for an emissions testing which is walk in. There was only one gentleman on the register when I arrived and he asked me to wait while he was doing something in front of the computer. He then called a customer towards the desk to talk about their service. I waited a little while to be taking in. However, I waited like 10-12 more minutes after the intake and was out of there by 10:30 am. So I will say they did a quick job no matter what and I was out of there with my emissions done. Needed window motor, oil change and a sensor fixed. Left with 4 tires. I didn't know I needed, But my tire rim caps were missing. And I was told they do not have them. Did someone eat them?? I got the oil change but something now is causing heat to come out from under my dash burning my feet as I drive and I was told that these things can break anytime.. funny it broke in their care. the sensor they replaced does not work and I still do not have the window motor installed. I sat in pep boys from 8am to 7pm before one of the men working there told me there was an issue. They got the delivery but the motor wasn't in the box. Where is the competence. My time is worth something, 11 hours of my time on my only day off. This has become a nightmare and it is wrong. Yes, I didnt go right back the next day. I had to work out of state and my life and health got in the way. Now I am being told I should have brought the car right back. It has been a week, but I had an appointment to have my window put in this week. Either way. They did nothing for me. I am still out 2 rim caps that I feel they should replace. my sensor still doesn't work and now I have more issues that I did not have when I brought my car to them. $1963.00 and I was charged for some kind of tire insurance of $156.00 that I knew nothing about. I can't recommend a business that isn't honest about the cost of parts. If I can't trust them to be truthful about that, then I can't trust them to be truthful about anything else. I go inside and ask whats up and I get "the guy that was supposed to do it went to lunch" ....seriously?!? Anyways, they end up getting them done shortly thereafter and all is good. When we arrived at the store the staff pretended they didn't even know that orders could be made online. When we gave an order number the staff claimed they didn't have the ability to look it up. We had to leave with no idea what was happening. I seriously wonder if the person behind the counter actually worked there or was robbing the place. Seems a bit of both. Called the corporate customer service line and was told the store service manager would contact me to sort it out. Never received a call, so I called corporate back and cancelled the order. I showed up for the appointment on Sunday, the tech literally laughed at me, saying that they had too much work and only two techs. He said that he cancelled my appointment. I made an Appt online for 3pm thru Car Advise to have two tires changed. I arrived there at 245pm I always try to be somewhere early. I walked up to the counter and explained why I was there and that I would also like to have my emissions done. The gentleman behind the counter was courteous and after a few mins found my Appt and told me i should not have made the Appt online that i should have called. they asked me if i was going to wait and let me know that it would be about two hours. I told them because of the wait i would probably try to get a ride home. I went outside and sat on the rickety picknic table in the shade to try to get a ride. Long story short i did not get a ride I waited there. By this time it was 310pm someone came out and picked up my truck to do the emissions it went into the shop and came out about 15 mins later I thought great. then time started to click by I checked the App they had sent a link to and now it was about 445 and my truck was still sitting where they put it after Emissions. The App said my truck would be done about 7pm. I went back in the office to ask if the App was correct because if it was i was going to get an uber home and come back, they told me no that was just a default time. So i went back outside and waited longer to keep this simple it was 702pm by the time i drove away. I think that is crazy to have an Appt to get two tires changed and Emissions. They nicked my young daughter for the max cost oil change, taking advantage of her lack of experience. I decided not to do business with them again. Recently I went in (out of convenience) for an oil change for myself. They did the same thing to me - charged for the max cost oil change even though I signed up for a lower cost one. I didn't want to argue but I confirmed at home. I also had to wait 90 minutes and was not told that my car was ready, so no idea how much extra I waited for nothing. I won't go back again. read more

Beware - SCAMMERS. As a young woman who doesn't know much about cars I always get a little nervous going into car places because I've heard horror stories of my friends getting scammed. I went in with a nail in my tire simply asking for a patch - thinking I would be done in 25 mins and spend $25. WRONG. I showed up at 8:15, 15 minutes after they opened and they said the person who could do the patch hadn't shown up to work yet. I said I would wait. At 9 they called me up to tell me they couldn't do the patch because "it was too close to another patch so it wouldn't hold." So they told me I need to get a new tire, and you need another tire to match since it's all wheel drive. I understand that, that's normal. Then they tell me my other set of tires are "legally bald" so I need to get 4 new tires, only $800! I looked at the tires, and I don't know much about tires but I do know they're not bald. I said no thank you and took it elsewhere. The mechanic I took it to patched the tire fine and told me my tires have plenty of life left in them - and asked me to please never go back to Pep Boys in Groton. It's unfortunate there are people in this world like this that will take advantage of unassuming people. If you care about customer service and quality mechanics I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

recently went to pepboys in groton CT. for an alignment. I made an appointment which was absolutely pointless. When i dropped it off i was told it would be hours before they could get to it. I went home and got a call later in the day saying i needed a lower ball joint before they could align it. They quoted me over $1000 for the job which included a rear plate light and new serpentine belt. Neither of which had anything to do with alignment. I do all the work on my vehicles myself so i picked it up and replaced the lower ball joint and the upper for good measure. While doing that i noticed the tie rod end was spewing grease everywhere and needed to be replaced too. Why i wasnt told about that is a mystery considering it is a main adjustment in the alignment process. I replaced that also and brought the truck back (same day). They said we will het it right in so i waited. 3 hours later i got the truck back with the exact same alignment issue as when i brought it in. I called them and was told to bring it back the next day. When i did i was again told they would get it right in. I waited and the truck did go RIGHT IN. over 4 hours later it came out and upon driving home realized it was still the same. Dont they test drive it??? I paid for an alignment and spent almost 8 hours over 2 days not including the initial drop off where i went home. What did i get from it? NOTHING! I wouldnt let them put air in my tire after that. So last week i brought my vehicle to pep boys in groton . On wednesday gave them the list of what wrong with my car. Not only did it take them 3 days to do passenger side tie rod and passenger side lower control and alignment. they did not do my hub and bearing on both sides. Sept 27 thru 29 they had my car. Today Oct 1 i had a bearing that blow on me while i was driving to work on highway.. Thank god I am alright scare the shit of me. Now that i reported that to groton ct. Manger now is refusing to return my phone. I am going to see what corporate can do. I differently going to send picture to Better Business Bureau.
