Showed up and let Louis know I had a hose that needed to be replaced. I knew exactly what hose but he said it was mandatory to do a full inspection if I wanted to do business here. Which I thought was a bit to aggressive. I did not give him an attitude and said ok. After waiting for about an hour he then said the hose is special order and will have it in two days. Gave me the total price, which I then googled the part number to shop around for best pricing and he got upset at me for doing so. He then asked if I wanted the part or no. I told him to charge me for what was done today and said No to the part only because of his attitude. He then turns to the mechanic and says: "this guy just using us". This was uncalled for and I let him know there was no need for that. He then started ranting at me saying this is a free country and he could say what he wants. BEWARE! When you get a quote for service here, make ABSOLUTELY sure you get a second opinion at another shop. When you come in for a diagnostic, make absolutely sure you see the OBD code printout. Otherwise, you'll be in for some very, very expensive repairs that don't even exist. I came in for a stalling/rough idle problem, and was told 8 hours later that I had a blown head and needed a NEW ENGINE. The service manager was adamant that I needed a new engine and that he would gladly do the work for $5,000!! And I was told that there were no codes to report on. Something didn't sound right, so I limped over to another shop down the street. Not only were they glad to show me the computer readout (bad crankshaft sensor) but suggested that it was a relatively easy fix. Total cost $350. The manager at the second shop even laughed at the absurd idea I had a blown head. He said.. look in your radiator, is there oil? No? Look in your oil, is there radiator fluid?? No? Then you don't have a blown head, period. "The guys at Pep Boys are idiots." Never ever trust this business without getting a second opinion. Beware. They prey on people who don't know that much about cars, it seems. Oh, and the one upside is they did offer a refund on my Complete Diagnostic ($89) after I complained to the corporate office. At least you have that avenue to get some of your money back. read more

Repair Warning: dishonest repair manager. Avoid this pep boys location. I have been using pep boys for my car repairs for the last 20 years and when my car broke down from traveling from Arizona to California with my wife and kids, I called their repair facility to make sure they could fix my car before I had it towed in. They said they had time and would be able to replace the belt that broke, that day. They also said they had the specific serpentine belt for my Mercedes in stock and it was 19.99 plus labor. After towing my car there, the repair estimate turned into a $589.00. As I was in a bind, I said fine, but I wanted to know the break down. All of the sudden the sales manager said they didn't have the parts in stock and would have to locate them. Long story short, he fumbled with the computer for 25 minutes claiming to be searching the town for my parts. When I asked him how much the parts where, the belt was $54, tensioner was 280 and labor was over $200. When I questioned him on the prices he stated that he had no belt for $20 and that the belt tensioner was the best price he could do. Now, I was not expecting on-line prices but I felt I was being taken advantage of so I asked him if he would price match. ( During this time the mechanics, who were sitting in the 8 car bays they have, kept coming in trying to take the keys so they could start. The service manager said for them to wait.) I then showed him A belt tensioner on-line that could be purchased For as little as $35. 2 miles down at auto zone for $119. The manager said he would try to do for $119 it but didn't think it would work on his computer. After a few clicks the price was suddenly $350 total. I told him fine let's do it and I'll pay. He then said he wasn't sure that he would be able to do it today and he would go ask his mechanics. He then went outside for 15 min, totaling 40 min since start. When he came back he said " we don't have time today....come back tomorrow. I then Asked him why did you say you could do it over the phone today (and that you where just finishing up a car doing the same job and could get right on it?) Plus I just had my car towed there when I could have towed it to 10 other mechanics. He just laughed and said "we don't have time. They guy you talked too, already left." Not having any options, I waked to their parts department and bought the belt.....which was in stock the whole time for $20. I then drove my car 2 miles to auto zone with no power steering and no alternator working and bought the belt tensioner for $119 and took the 30 minutes and changed them myself in the parking lot. Lastly, I had made an appointment on line and even when I pointed that out, he said that those appointments don't mean anything. But when I told him I called them before to verify they could replace the belt at 2:30 and told them I would be there in and hour., he said his mechanics already left for the day. I brought my car in on a tow truck at 345pm, I left there at 4:49 pm. I chenged the belt with mediocre tools i bought from pep boys in one hour. I was back on the road at 6pm and saved over $450.00. Oh and when I drove back past their shop after being at auto zone, the 3 mechanics were still standing around in the 8 bays with only one car that was having the brakes replaced. This place is shady, they lied to my face, they lied to my wife and I on the phone and they artificially increased the prices because they knew I was traveling and tried to take advantage us. I wouldn't be surprised if this is the norm for them. Don't go here, anywhere else is better than this place read more

I went to Pep Boys today because I needed work done on my car, and these guys delivered. Louis and Isaiahs were very professional and kind because I didn't have a clue! My husband always took our car there and he was always very happy with the service. I took our car there today and it's never run better! Made an appointment (that's a joke) for a simple tire rotation! I had purchased the quality set of 4 tires from the Indio store originally. Was NOT told the wait time would be FOREVER (over an hour and counting when I left)! Absolutely no respect for the customer and their time! The manager was nice enough to tell me to comeback for the oil change later.New receptionist ...when somebody asked her something that was all that she could politely answer ..am sorry I don't know. Paid for my tiers online came for the install an hour later it is in the bay and they broke my tps censor. Then said it was broken in the tier. I have a 2018 ram that is all electronic. I check my tier pressure every other day due to driving for uber. If it was broke I would have seen the light on. This is crazy. To add injury to insult they took apart the censor and for got to put the other broken half back in the tier. After working for a car company and in the service industry this is crazy. They should have admitted they messed up instead of blaming me. Not to mention if you come in they have no manager to do anything. Tell me this has been in the tier for over a year bouncing around. Purchased several parts online and conveniently picked up in store with no hassles whatsoever over all was a smooth pleasant experience with huge savings since i had been waiting a few months and let repairs sit on the back burner until now, saved over 200.00 dollars overall and even got two 10 dollars off coupons for future purchases by email. Love this place! I come here for, literally, everything when it comes to cleaning my car. The girl, Edith, up front is always helpful. I'm in there so much she greets me by name all the time. 0 stars never going there again, i went there this afternoon november 20 all i need is one tire balanced because the weight fell off. Told me it would be i beleive in the 40 dollar range to do all 4 and rotate because " doing one tire wont fix it"...i am almost positive since it is the one tire clearly missing the weight will fix it. And i was planning on a tire rotation after after i put on the new rotors, breaks and struts... Its not like a tire balancer is a tool everyone has laying around in their shop. Needless to say i will never go here again and my dislike for chain mechanic shops has grown deeper. Im not too sure of this guys logic but the tire is one unit, if one tire is flat you dont replace all 4 every time. If 3 of 4 are balanced no need to redo all 4. read more

Boy, what a mixture of reviews. My experience was pretty good but they were going to charge me $20.00 to check my alternator. This service is free at any regular parts store. I had already had it checked at Auto Zone but I needed it put on. I told him to forget the check and just put one on. Not sure how pleased I am because of attitude. They did get me out in a little over an hour. Not sure I will return. We spend about two months here every winter. read more

Absolutely terrible service. Was one of the first people in the service department at 9:15am to get my sons car smog checked. After waiting 2 1/2 hours I asked the service manager what the status was and he said the tech was just getting to the car now. When the tech brought my paperwork back he told me that my sons car failed the smog check because he "smelled something". I looked at the computer readout and it showed all California smog test requirements were met and were well within the limits, but because he says he smelled something, he failed the visual inspections for the car. I asked him how an odor can cause a visual inspection failure, but he had no answer. Wasted 3 hours of my morning, and I will never go back to Pep boys. Stay away from this so called mechanics shop, it is apparent that they don't know what they are doing. read more

I made an appointment to have brakes replaced and rotors turned. I was at the shop, not on the phone to schedule appointment. I scheduled it for 8:00 AM the following week. I arrived early, before they opened. When they did open I gave my name and said I have an 8:00 appointment for brake replacement and turned over my keys. I asked how long it would take and was told an hour to an hour and a half. I said I may be out side would you call me when I he work was completed. I returned from a walk about 9::15 AAm and saw my car outside, assuming the work was complete. When I went in to pay the bill I was told they had not yet started the work. The mechanic that does brake replacements does not come in until 9:00 AM. WHY was this never brought to my attention. Very typical of air head, Neanderthal service personnel! I don't know why I keep coming back here. Just last month I requested a diagnostic... They charged me full price and they referred me somewhere else because they were on able to fix it at their shop. A month prior to that...I paid for a diagnostic and it was incorrect! Had it fixed at another shop where they told be it was an easy fix. They told me I had to go to a dealer so I did and had to pay another diagnostic fee. I scheduled an appointment and I arrived at my appointment slot and they told me it would be about three hours until they got to my car... I indicated on the appointment sheet that I was going to be waiting at the store....Three hours with an appointment? They told me that I needed to leave my car because they don't know when they were going to get to it... Again, I scheduled a freaking appointment. I asked when was a good day to reschedule as I needed my car for an out-of-town trip. The person I was speaking to was very rude and vague. I asked if there was any incentive they could give me due to the inconvenience and they said no. The only reason I come here is because I have a care card. Makes me regret my decision to getting the card since....the nearest store other than this location is about 15 miles away. I hate this place! I just wanted an oil change. read more

I hit and went over a curb in my 4 year old Honda to avoid an accident. My steering wheel was now off center when driving straight. It was near the pep boys so I stopped in the have the alignment and front suspension checked. They were very busy and said it would take several hours to get it, so I left the car. While I was gone I checked reviews and became concerned as some reviews were negative. When I returned they had a print out of the before and after alignment specs and said everything else was good. No extra charges no other problems. Immediately after I drove off I noticed how nice the car tracked and how tight the steering was. The car handles better than before my mishap. I brought my car in on December 10, 2013 I am a rewards member and I was taking advantage for the "One free tire puncture repair per year." They said nothing was wrong with the tire. The tire wasn't flat or had any hole they could see. About 4pm I notice the tire front driver side tire going flat again. I decided to take in to America's Tire Co next door to your location. Not only did they find a nail, they repaired and replaced it for FREE. Then noticed some burn marks within the tire and they gave me a tire. Jesus the service advisor is the worst. After he scammed me out of $89.00 for doing an electrical diagnostic that I didn't need. I clearly asked him what the cost would be to change the ignition housing or starter switch and if they had it in stock. He waited 2 hours to call me and tell me they couldn't fix it today and wanted to charge me over $500 to drill out the ignition barrel...tomorrow. Then when I returned to take the vehicle he threw a major attitude yelling about how I needed to pay the $89.00 even though they didn't do anything except an electrical diagnostic I didn't ask for. The other employee at the counter apologized for his behavior. Jesus literally was yelling at me just because I was questioning what they had actually done and why I was getting charged. They pushed my car out in the parking lot. My kids and I waited for AAA to come pick us up as we were now stranded in the desert with the sun going down. I had an unexpected flat tire on the way home from work and no spare. I got a tow to the only tire srore open at that hour and bought 2 tires. It took a while to have them installed. The waiting room was unpleasant without a water fountain or even a magazine. Just chairs. So I paid for the tires and left. I made it almost all the way home to discover that some huge plastic thing had been left unattached under the car and was flapping and scraping the road as I drove. In my experience Pep Boys mechanics do the least they can for the most money and never really finish a job. I will avoid them in future. read more

Dishonest !!! My son's car broke down on the weekend. He was towed here. Pep Biys told him he needed a new battery and alternator. He just got the battery because he had a hunch that the alternator was fine! Sure enough... Upon his return home ( 50 miles away) , he checked in with our regular mechanic and the alternator was PERFECT!!! My son would have been out approx. $335 bucks if he had listened to this place. First Yelp review ever simply because the service was that bad I felt the need to stop people from making a horrible mistake. Too rushed, apparent lack of qualified mechanics, zero communication both internally and to customers. Called multiple times to check in to make sure service would be completed in time in which they confirmed every time. I end up getting a call at 6 pm letting me know they actually hadn't even started the main service and wanted to give the mechanic extra time because he has never worked on a BMW before and no one else on staff was certified or qualified... I went there last Friday, and I wasnt able to make it. I decided to make an appointment the next day at 8. I went there early and was waiting for the shop to open. Right when the shop open their door. A whole bunch of people get in the store without getting in line, and when it my turn. They told me I have to wait for another 2 hours till they even touch my car even though I made an appointment. Took my Kia to the Indio Pep Boys because Palm Springs Kia told me I needed 2 front tires on my new Optima, after only 16k miles on the factory installed Michelin tires, and after paying the dealership to have the tires rotated every 3000 miles with my oil change. The service report stated that the 2 rear tires both had 50% tread left, the front driver side had 30%, and the front passenger had 40%. It was evident that the tires were never rotated. They said the tires were worn so bad that they wouldn't rotate them. Disturbed with the service I received from the dealership, I called Pep Boys to see if they would rotate my tires. The guy who answered the phone was very pleasant and offered to rotate them at no charge. When I took the car in I was told that they would have to rebalance the tires at a cost of $35. Even though I know you don't have to rebalance tires when they're rotated, I complied and paid the $35 not wanting to be confrontational. When I drove off it wasn't long before I noticed a lot of resonating humming noise (road noise) and heavy vibrations at higher speeds. Initially I thought it was the road but realized it was noisy all the time. I purchased the car with sound reducing glass and the car previously was very quiet and smooth driving. I subsequently took my vehicle to another tire shop where I was informed that I needed a 4 way alignment and have the tires balanced, this is 3 weeks after I had Pep Boys "balance" my tires. All 4 tires had severe feathering wear on the inside tread. Again, this is a new car with only 16K miles, never wrecked or even bumped a curb. Seems obvious that the alignment and balancing had been tampered with, causing severe tire wear and vibrations. The car was smooth driving and very quiet prior to taking it to Pep Boys. I had purchased several sets of tires on my other vehicles, and spent considerable money with Pep Boys over the years. I'LL NEVER RETURN. I would give them zero stars if I could. P/S, I won't return to Palm Springs Kia either. read more

I recently took my Chrysler 300 in because it was leaking oil. They said it was due to a faulty oil filter and also stated that my tie rods were shot and needed to be replaced to the turn of approx $400.00 Being that my car only had 28,000 miles on it I called Ken in Seattle at Kings Transmission. He said unlikely at that low mileage and said they were trying to upsale me and to try somewhere else. I then took it to Mark at Indio Collision and as was suspected.......nothing wrong. As I was waiting to on another employee to check on if my part came in, I witnessed how Chad the Service manager handled a return and complaint with another customer. Got the notice in the mail from the DMV letting me know I need a smog check. That's right up there with finding out you've got Jury Duty. Arrived at Jiffy Lube on 111 only to find out they wanted $60 and the "Smog Guy" went to lunch and wouldn't be back for an hour. I hit the road and landed at Pep Boys less than a block away, heading East on Hwy 111. Chad, the serviceman at the front desk told me an hour. 30 minutes later, he let me know that my car was ready and the real kicker is, Pep Boys only charged about $35. I would have given them 5 stars but the waiting area needs a little makeover. Overall, the staff was friendly and efficient, and probably my best "smog" experience yet. Hope this helps. read more
