STAY AWAY!!! UPSELLS AND HEADACHES GALORE!!! They really need to make zero stars an option on here... I brought my car in to get inspected and was told there were a couple appointments ahead of me and it would be a 2-3 hour wait. So I dropped it off and was told I would receive a call when it was done. 4 hours later and I still hadn't heard from them. I called and was informed that my car had in fact been inspected so, god knows how long it had been sitting there. I was told all the brake pads and the front rotors failed and needed to be replaced. I asked for an estimate and was put on hold. When they came back, they said ALL the rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced (the car is 3 years old and only has about 35,000 miles on it) and gave me a price upwards of almost $800. I told them thanks but no thanks and said I would be down to pick the car up within the hour. I get there about half an hour later to find my car still on the lift and was told they needed to put the wheels back on. 1 HOUR later and finally they bring me my keys with no apologies or explanation for the wait. I then brought my car to another garage for a second opinion for them to tell me the rotors look fine and just the front brake pads need replacing. However, since pep boys had already flagged me for rotors in the system, by law they unfortunately also needed to replace them (at an astronomically lower rate I might add however) So nice work pep boys, and thanks for nothing! I always thought they were a good business and cared about people but was greatly disappointed with this Pep Boys location. My tire popped while driving in the middle of nowhere. I found this location as the closest Pep Boys location from where I was and drove on a flat tire to get to this location so they could help me fix the tire/change it. I explained to the Service rep/guy at the reception that I had a flat tire and needed help changing it so I could drive 45 minutes back home. He told me that they were closing in an hour and couldn't help. This shows me that this location doesn't care about people and they are bad business. Help a stranded veteran...I wasn't asking for free service. I was 45 minutes away from home on a very cold winter night and needed help but you couldn't help because "you close in an hour" read more

Brought my car in to get a headlight fixed. Guy says they can't touch it, because they're backed up. Nobody in the store and he goes outside to smoke a cig. Plus, waited 10 minutes to even talk to someone. Horrible service at this location and I don't recommend it. read more

I brought my car in with a coolant leak and was told that I needed to completely replace my radiator with an estimated cost of a little over $1300.00. The estimate I received from the dealership was $1100.00 and the estimate I received from my usual mechanic was $950.00. I decided to go to my usual mechanic and they proceeded to tell me the issue was actually a clamp that needed replacing with a cost of $95.00. I am glad I decided to go this route, otherwise I would have paid an unnecessary $1300.00 to replace something that didn't need replacement. I am not sure if somebody made a simple error or what happened to cause this mistake, but I think it is safe to say that I would not feel comfortable returning here. However, I will say that the staff I spoke to in the lobby and store front were very kind and hospitable to me. read more

Been a while for me in Pep Boys and it has changed quite a bit. Ill qualify by saying id been having repairs/maintenance done by a VIP location for around 10 years. I dealt with the same guy, and was always treated fairly until they split and became O'Reilly parts/VIP service. Now its as if prices doubled and they assume you're an idiot and will pay anything without a 2nd opinion.... BACK TO PEP BOYS...! I live over an hour away, was in Nashua to get this done Then after complaining, Mike told me I'd be in and out, I showed up early and 40 mins after my appointment time my car had not been brought in yet. They used to have some decent people there in the service department. Not anymore, called Saturday to see if I could get an appointment around 1pm , told me that the techs were short because someone didn't show up. Made appointment for Sunday at 1pm. I get there and after 10 minutes was told that they had two techs not show up and there is a couple cars in front of me. Keep in mind, I wanted an evaluation of my suspension. I would have came back for the repair in a few days anyways. They told me that they couldn't see it till 6pm and that I should make another appointment. They used to have a few nice people there. But the last few times this crap keeps happening. Why did I make an appointment if you just take everybody else in front of me. They are useless. They need to get there staff together. With unemployment so low, you might want to get people who show up. Glad they made the store all pretty, and made the waiting area nicer. Thou get something other than French Vanilla, or decaf breakfast blend. Also order more supplies, since you are probably going to have customers waiting forever. Went to a place down the road a mile. They got me in, they put an hour in turns out that it is a weird issue, but the car is safe. They charged me only $9.99. They gave me a solution to stop the noise, but told me that I could just put up with it for now. read more

One week ago, we took our van to Pep Boys on 274 Amherst St in Nashua, for an inspection. The van was driving fine and we were confident it would pass. Shortly after dropping off our van we received a call from a Pep Boys agent stating that the van would not start and they needed to replace the starter. My husband and I were shocked that it would not turn-over, and curious why they would not attempt to "jump" it first, but assumed that the mechanic knows best and agreed to have the starter replaced. While waiting for the service to be completed, we received another call from a Pep Boys agent stating that our van would not pass inspection because of a laundry list of problems: brakes, rotors, cracked oil pan, leaking exhaust, faulty emergency brake, and the list went on... My husband and I have had Pep Boys service our vehicles in the past and were happy with their work, so when they said certain items needed to be done, we were confident in our assurance to go forward and complete all the repairs. We didn't have the cash readily but my husband had a credit card he could use to pay for everything. The next day, we picked up the van. We drove the van for four days. On the fifth day, with our dog, 5-year old daughter, and one of her friends, I was driving to pick up our 9-year old from school when I heard a horrible sound coming from under the hood. I pulled up to the side of the road to listen more carefully to the steady thud, thud, thud. It did not sound good. I turned off the vehicle. We walked the rest of the distance, in the rain, and retrieved our 9-year old from school. We returned to the van. I could smell something -- burning oil, brakes? I couldn't tell what it was, but after piling the kids and dog back into the van, I attempted to start it. And, it wouldn't turn over. We all piled back out of the van, three kids and a dog, opened our umbrellas and walked home in the pouring rain. That evening we had the van towed to different mechanic. In the morning, that mechanic called us with his diagnosis: a bolt from the starter (the new starter that had just been replaced) had not been secured and caused severe damage under the hood. Hmmm... I wonder how DEADLY it would have been had I been driving down the highway at 65 MPH with three kids and a dog at the time the unsecured bolt dislodged? read more

They said they hate their online reservation system and told me that they couldn't fit me in, I would need to come back the next day. Have been there several times for maintenance and repairs. This is not a horrible shop, but also not a great one. A few years back, they broke a dipstick on my car, first refused to replace it, then I made them buy me a new one. In addition to that, I had to drive for a week without a dipstick and it took them about 3 hours to take it out - when the oil change was supposed to take 40 minutes. Just recently had shocks/struts, brake rotors and drive belts replaced. When replacing the rear struts the mechanic broke the spare tire cover in my trunk and didn't even mention it until I noticed it myself. They replaced it without too much hassle. After about 200 miles, car developed a squeal that turned to clinging and rattling on bumps and braking by 300 miles - turns out the caliper bolts were loose and coming out - they charged me for genuine Nissan bolts, but actually only replaced some of them, and they were not even the right size. I was in Portsmouth when my car "broke", so I had that location try to fix it, and they found out that the struts were loose as well. The Portsmouth shop fixed that issue, but they "forgot" about the caliper bracket - I was furious, and I had my car towed all the way to Nashua (PepBoys paid for it). They then replaced the calipers. Other times the service was nice - the belts, can't complain about, also fluid exchanges are usually okay. The bottom line: You can save big $$$ especially if you watch out for coupons (my struts cost me only about $230 to install - as opposed to $500-600 quotes I got elsewhere). However, these guys do pretty sloppy work sometimes but they are generally very good at resolving issues and not charging you for it. read more

They locked the doors earlier then they were suppose to and stared at me waiting outside. I tried calling the store to ask why they closed early if they were supposed to close at 7. This is my 3rd time having Pepboy work on my car. I had my batteries replaced, a tire replaced, and my breaks done. I'm currently waiting for my breaks. First the good: I think their parts costs are competitive. I did a comparison amongst other part stores in the area and theirs were lower. Also, a few of the guys here are very professional and willing to explained I details about the repairs. I once had a emergency where my tire blew. One employee, Liam, spent a lot of time to assure I got what I want. Oh! And they have an iPhone charger. The bad: it's not that bad but a little annoying. I called to have my breaks looked at. And the woman I talked on the phone said to come in at 6. So I did. When I arrived, she told me that they couldn't service me as I was a walk in. That she Pepboys only take in walk ins and couldn't make appointments. Then we made an appointment for another day. I'm fortunate I live a mile away, however ... I called in to assure a spot at 6. And her explanation was somewhat odd. Oh, and today they were really slow. Its going on 3.5 hours right now. And another woman was promised 1 hour and been here longer. Had my first headlight burn out in an older model Honda Pilot I purchased earlier this year last night. Today I went straight to Pep Boys as I found they had better prices on brake light bulbs than Auto Zone last time I went shopping around. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person I know, so changing a headlight in a new vehicle (to me) would probably mean searching for the right bulb then watching a YouTube video or two and struggling through it. That wasn't my experience today. When I walked near the back of the store looking for headlights, Shawn, who was standing behind the back service counter without a customer, immediately came over and asked if he could help me find anything. Not only did Shawn show and explain the options with various headlight bulbs, he also suggested using gloves and vaseline lubricant. (Yes, I'm a novice!) But what really made my day is he walked me to my truck and showed me exactly how to replace the bulb. That saved me a LOT of time! Fortunately, it was much easier in my new Honda Pilot than my last vehicle - no tools required - and was easily able to replace both headlights quickly on my own thanks to Shawn showing me how to do it in three simple steps. Shawn also tried to upsell me on a cleaner for the headlight cover (to get rid of oxidation fog) but I had heard of a home remedy before which he agreed would work: toothpaste & baking soda. So I declined that one. No, I'm not upset he offered me something else as an upsell - that's simply good salesmanship. And, I did buy the gloves and some cheap lube there because it was a help to me properly getting the job done I came there for. Finally, Shawn ushered me to the counter the help me quickly check out and get set up with a free rewards card. The guy is the complete package and an asset to both Pep Boys and their customers. Altogether, very satisfied with my trip today and my previous trip to Pep Boys and will be the first place I shop next time for car parts for the minor maintenance and repairs I can handle on my own. I scheduled an oil change with the included tire rotation. While scheduling online I selected tire services and then tire rotation. I also requested that the service technician look under the vehicle at the suspension system to see if something was rubbing. I was charged $19.99 for this suspension system evaluation which probably would have been picked up on during the multi-point inspection included in the oil change. Prior to dropping off the vehicle I marked each wheel so that I could tell if a tire rotation was performed. Upon inspection after the service it was made apparent the tires were not rotated, even though the customer service representative told me they were (and included on my invoice). It isn't right to lie about the services you are performing. Be careful when scheduling services as they might not actually get performed. read more

They don't even deserve a full star, I had two appointments with them, the first one I had to leave and reschedule because I had left for an hour and when I came back my vehicle still wasn't even on the lift, the second one I showed up ten minutes early and was assured it would be done in an hour, sure enough I go back 90 minutes later and they're still not finished. He took the vehicle to Concord Street Motors, which is where my family has been going for years, for a second opinion. Second opinion: no trans leak, break and calipers where fine, etc. Cost = $20.00.....If you want an honest opinion, go to Concord Street Motors. Apparently Pepboys doesn't value customers or customer service. I tried to use their coupon today, and was told it was no longer valid. The coupon expired TODAY. But they stopped taking it on the 5th. Typically, coupons are good thru the end of the business day of the date of expiration. Pretty misleading and rude help. Worst experience. I made an appointment for new tires. Arrived on time. Three hours later, they still hadn't even touched my car. I went to the service desk and another customer was already there with the same issue. I asked about why it was taking so long and was just told "we're short staffed" and "we're just finishing up this guy's truck". No apology. No information on how much longer it would be. And even worse, I had been watching the garage through the window in the waiting room and could see people standing around and talking. I ended up asking for my keys and driving an hour home on a spare tire. It took them 10 minutes to bring my car around so I could leave. I have already filed a formal complaint with corporate and will be talking with the manager. Avoid this place if you can. read more

Went to my reputable repair shop to get an Inspection done, unfortunately they had to fail me because I didn't have my registration in the car. Took longer than expected to sort out getting a new copy of registration, but was up against the end of the month and needed to get reinspected stat. Unsurprisingly, my repair shop was booked up and couldn't handle my on-demand request for an appointment. But Pep Boys could. After 1.5 hours (for an inspection! with an appointment!!), they ended up failing me due to inner tie rod and wheel bearing issues. They quoted the work at $800+ to fix. At that point I just took the Fail and set up an appointment for a week later with my repair shop. Finally got in there for another Inspection and they passed me. Were shocked to hear that I would be failed for what they saw as only slight play in the tie rod and wheel bearing. Not enough to fail an inspection. Obviously I will be getting my car repaired sooner than later, but it will certainly be with my honest repair shop and not with the desperately strict Pep Boys. My repair shop wants my business, and won't hold my inspection hostage over doling out $800 on the spot. Also, Pep Boys charges an additional $10 on top of their $34 inspection for "shop materials". Good lord just charge $44 already and spare me the hidden fee for using a couple shop towels. A fee on an inspection is just insulting - especially in a state where the cost of inspection isn't mandated. read more

My grandparents who were visiting from Canada were having difficulties with their car. Since Pep Boys was super close to our house we decided it would be the best bet to bring the car there. This was a little bit back so I can't remember exactlyyyyyy what was wrong with the car itself. Anyways we received a call saying that the car was ready to be picked up. Upon my grandfathers arrival they told him his car caught on fire. It clearly didn't. Two different employees told two different stories. One said the fire was under the hood, while having the car running. My grandfather said if that's the case the car shouldn't be on. The employee quickly shut the car off. The other employee said the carpet in the car caught on fire. Okay? There were absolutely zero burn marks anywhere. Anyways if someone's car caught on fire you wouldn't tell them their car was ready to be picked up. Meanwhile the cops showed up. They told my grandfather he wasn't allowed to drive his car out of there, but had to get it towed unless he got the problems fixed. What problems? I'm not sure since the fire never even happened. I don't understand how before my grandfather had even found out about his car "catching on fire" the police were called on this 80 year old man! Not to mention they literally created problems to get more money out of this poor old man. I just can't see good in a company who takes advantage of old people especially from another country knowing it'll be harder to get in trouble. We didn't take legal action due to the hassle, but we let everyone know they can not trust their vehicles there. Like I said this was a few years back. Maybe those employees don't work there anymore. I sure hope they don't. Maybe the business is now in better hands, but it is forever ruined for my family and I. Oh and after getting the car towed the F out of that place, my grandparents drove it home to Canada ABSOLUTELY FINE. Of course we found other things tampered with after the fact but that car they weren't allowed to drive out of pep boys 10 mins down the road, made a 9 hour drive the following day just fine. read more

I'd give them no stars if I could. I came in on Saturday, December 6th for new tires. Nice guy at check in and two hours later I drove home. Wake up Sunday, December 7th and the two front tires are completely flat. Call, tell me to bring it in to fix them. Dropped of at 11:45 and was told they would call me when it was done. 5:30 runs around and I went in since they close at 6:00. My car is still sitting in the parking lot waiting to be brought in. I went in and the guy working was a complete jerk. Insisting it was a "flat tire repair without an appointment". Nope, they made a mistake with the install yesterday. He kept blaming me saying it was just a flat tire and would not admit it was their fault. Finally once they fixed it they admitted it was their mistake, both tires were beaded incorrectly. Oh yeah, and he told my that he never actually knew what was on the work order because he completely ignored whatever I had to say. Avoid this place at all costs. The customer service is absolutely horrible and clearly their work is shoddy too. Find a local small business to give your money to and who stand by their work. It may cost more but you hopefully won't have to worry about the possibility of a flat the next day or worse, the tire blowing out completely on the way home. A big box like this just doesn't care, even when it's a safety issue. read more

The people that work here are very nice and personable, but they do not seem to understand the concept of an appointment. We had to come here on 2 occasions to get tires installed (the first time didn't work out because we couldn't find the tire lock), on both occasions, after an hour of waiting, they still hadn't pulled the car in to start putting the tires on. It took over 3 hours to install the new tires. What is the point of making an appointment for a specific time if they are never ready to begin working on your vehicle at said time? I wouldn't suggest coming here simply for the inconvenience of having to wait an exceptionally long time for your car to be worked on. Lazy? Lack of knowledge? I went to Pep Boys for parts for a simple repair to my car. I needed a length of rubber hose 1" in diameter. The person behind the counter took me back to see all the rubber hoses they had in inventory (radiator hoses) and explained he didn't have a tape measure and couldn't help me find one to meet my needs. I have never seen in any retail store a person try so hard not to help. It was to the point of being comical. I went up the street to Auto Zone and got what I needed. I always thought of Pep Boys as being a place to get some advice and assistance - guess not. There are 5 or so auto parts stores in the area - Pep Boys will be the last one on the list. read more

Beware and do some research before coming here!! In September 2018, I brought my Mazda CX-5 in to have the back brake pads and rotors replaced. A few months later, I brought my car in to a Mazda dealership for an issue with my front camera, and asked them to look at my brakes since I felt some bad shaking in my front seats. Turns out, Pepboys installed the wrong size brake pads, and there was significant space left between the brackets and the brake pads. I've been driving around with no working back brakes with my newborn daughter. SCARY! Now I am spending another $400 to fix Pepboy's mistake! When I called to make them aware, they just said there's no way they would have made that mistake, but clearly if they hadn't I wouldn't have had my brake issues after just having them replaced by them! read more

Went in for NH state inspection and brakes which were worn (checked the day before) 11 AM appointment. Finally got in after noon. Inspection found a PS leak (wet spot) but didn't know where. Didn't know, then hose, then rack for $1200. And they didn't change the pads as I asked. Went down the road to a reputable shop. No leak, all good, passed and guess what, brakes barely passed but since everything else was "outstanding" his words, not mine, he let them go. Gee. You don't say...wish they had been replaced. Apparently that is my job next weekend. Do not go here if you do not know cars. Even if you do, still stay away, dropped 4 hours here. The reputable shop down the road had me in and out in half an hour with no appointment. read more

Had a very disappointing state inspection. Made an appointment online, same day (which they advertise) which apparently does take into account actual availability. (ie it does not work). On arrival was told that and that it would take a 1/2 hour before they could start and 45 minutes for the inspection. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes, I then found out they hadn't even started. The only reason that this wasn't a 1 star is that on complaining they comped the inspection. read more
